absolutely awful food, ordered at 8, came at 10! was stone cold, clearly left out all day and gave us the left overs !!! stale and just unedible, would never order again!! not even if i was paid to order just that bad, i would recommend going anywhere else except hel yen, still better somehow

The food was horrific !! My only meal of the day had lead to food poisoning. I ordered chicken fried rice and duck. The rice was very dry and the duck was not cooked. Will not be ordering from here again!!

Do not order from here !!!! Ordered food , said it was on route , an hour later rang to see where food was still on route be there in five minutes , bear in mind we have orders from here and spent a lot of money over time I food never arrived !!! They have taken the money but never got our food ! Contacted today was told it's under new ownership ! As of Friday when we ordered ! Said we can have half price next we order , don't think so I've paid full price for goods we never received! Absolutely disgusting

Ordered waited 2 hours never got the food, called up asking where it was they said the driver was 5 minutes away. Still didn’t arrive 20 minutes after that tried calling they never answered and closed 3 hours no food no answers no nothing

Poor form tonight, hour and a half for a special box and it arrived with no chicken, asked to send photos as proof and still refused to fix their mistake, won't be ordering again, I feel sorry for the 12 year old child they make use the phone, they don't need to be putting up with people complaining about the awful staff here

Don't eat here if you like Chinese and whatever you do don't buy a chow mein, the Noodles are so odd. Such a weird Chinese takeaway.

When I try out a new Chinese I always order special fried rice so you get a bit of everything. I've worked in health & safety and in enough kitchens to know what spoiled food tastes like. The chicken was off and the beef was off. It smelled off and tastes rotten. I won't order from zhen garden ever again and not should you. Usual cash only tax dodgers!

First order, absolutely fabulous!

My local takeaway. Usually good food however, this evening something went badly wrong. Worst egg fried rice I've ever seen. It was just a container of clumped inedible mush. It tasted awful and was Immediately thrown in the bin. Shame as the other ordered items were very nice. Prices have also shot up and ordered over £26 to get a free bag of prawn crackers! 3*'s as egg fried rice let the meal down.

Great little Take-Away, food always arrives in good time and taste lovely. Will continue to use this place as haven't found a fault with it at all. Always ordered from Just-Eat.

I've used this chinese many times and it's mostly good. The ladt one I had was so salty, it ruined the food for me. I dont like my food salty. Its a shame as the food has always been good.

Delivery took 3 hours, after the staff and owner telling us it was 10 mins away each time we rang. When the food came, we received a dessicated and horrific peice of duck, looked as if it had been left to rot in the sun for weeks. The food tasted appalling, like old oil and vinegar, and was cold. I have been to many chinese' in my life, and this was the worst of all time. I would recommend no one to ever ever give this place your money, you'd be better off eating roadkill.

2 hours to deliver a few miles away. Ridiculous

This place used to be amazing, but it’s now cash only and I think it’s teamed up the Chinese next door. It’s ok, but I would go to the golden dragon in Shardlow as it’s significantly better. The service is good as it’s always friendly, but other than that, I’d go somewhere else. Fine for a bog std takeaway.

Very quick service- ready within 10mins of ordering. Very good sized portions and very good value for money.

The food is horrible don't water your money

Had a mix up last time we ordered in March. Spoke to a young man called Brandon and was promised we could have the item on next order. Today I rang and promise fulfilled and complilentary prawn crackers. Delivery man nice too Thank you

Young man on counter was polite and funny. Singapore rice noodles were the best I have had in a while. Chips needed seasoning but thats a personal preference. We were at a hotel so didn't have access to our own and sure that the takeaway would have obliged if we had asked. But asking us would have been a nice improvement. Crispy chilli beef was different from what I usually receive at other Chinese places but interesting. Standard pricing for a Chinese. Cash only on my visit. Parking on-street.

Just had a delivery and it was the nicest takeaway ive ever had, the king prawns in the meal were so fresh and tasty. Will definitely be ordering again

I ordered from here tonight, the food I received was cold so I called up to inform them. The man I spoke to said he would replace the food and when the driver came back I needed to give the original food back!!! Very very strange request but I did this anyway. Second time lucky went to eat my food (which was hot this time) only to find that they had sent the wrong food!! I called back to explain and the lady I spoke to was the rudest I have ever encountered! She was shouting at me telling me it was my fault and that I was now banned from ordering again and put the phone down on me!! I only ordered 1 dish, 1 chips and a can of coke!! Wasn’t exactly the biggest order! So even though I can’t order again, I wouldn’t choose to anyway!

Ordered from here in advance (3 hours) then they text me half hour before it’s due to arrive and tell me THAT I CANCELLED THE ORDER AND I DIDNT. Absolutely disgraceful , avoid this place at all costs I guess they couldn’t be bothered, only now I have to order elsewhere and the rest of my family have their food.

I left a review 4 years ago saying howe bad it was, i thought today i will give them another shot see if they got better. it has got SO MUCH worst. food was absolutely disgusting, tasted like very old oil with very cheap ingredients. my children and dog wouldnt eat it and they eat anything. myself and partner threw up less than 30mins after eating only 5% of the meal the bin ate the rest. i dont like to criticise peoples work but this has been going on too long and if you read this you have to look into ways to improve. i loved zhen gardens food 5 or so years ago, im not sure what happened but its a hard fall from what it once was. i think its safe to say i wont wont give your restaurant a 6th try even after another 5 years. i gave you time and another try. the image is the food wasted to the bin. as you can see. its pretty much all of it. 1 star because i cant give 0.

We arrived late not long before closing having travelled 375 miles beck from Scotland and they kindly served us and the food was delicious. Thank you.

Decent food, friendly staff. Always done collection and it's been ready in 20 minutes or so, can't say about delivery issues that people report. Cash only, which is a bit inconvenient. Cheaper to pay in the takeaway itself than to use the online ordering system.

Shocking service! Ordered the food at 9pm, and was calling at 10.30 to see where the order was?! Driver said he had knocked on, but our cctv shows he didn't!! Finally an hour and three quarters later, and being stood in the road, driver finally turns up! Even then there was no apology! No wonder they're canvassing for more customers. Reheated Chinese isn't really edible! . Save your money and go elsewhere! we know we will be next time.

Food missing out of the order. When I called to ask to correct and re deliver they refused and had the cheek to say come and fetch it it’s free. I had already paid for it ! Spoilt the family meal we could not eat together. When I arrived they would not even add some prawn crackers for my 10 mile round trip. Terrible attitude avoid. .

Just had a delivery to East Leake, sweet and sour chicken balls, huge and well cooked, not thick stodgy batter. Tender ribs, everything very good

Been using it for maybe 20yrs. Had gone downhill a bit as ppl have come & gone over the years! Staff still friendly though. 🔵 To note, at the mo, they are only talking CASH (thought that was discouraged at the mo?) No card or pay by phone in person! So have cash ready (aim for £12 p.p. unless it's an outlandish meal) 🔵 Waiting time approx 15 mins regardless of in person of tell order. 🔵 Only phone orders can use card 🔵 Free prawn crackers above £17 now! (Used to be 10!😱) But given i struggled with my back, they walked the order to my car with me (one thing that hasn't changed! 😁)

Ordered on food hub, 15 mins later had a call to say they don't deliver to my area. (it says they do on their website!) Asked about a refund and they told me they're busy so will call later. No call and they cancelled my order. Waited over a week for a refund and nothing came so had to contact food hub. They looked into it and apparently the restaurant had deleted my order off their system! Complete time wasters and scammers. Should be shut down

Just found out they have changed ownership again. It had previously been good. No idea if food is any good now. Tried 2 weeks ago. Was told there would be a long wait. Tried to say it was okay as I didn't mind waiting and was rudely cut off while still talking. Tried again tonight after 6 hours drive. Went to collect phone order and they couldn't find it even with the order number. Then told it would be another 5 mins. When presented with it told they have no card machine anymore. Cash only. I rarely carry cash now. Was told there was a cash point at coop. So food ready and would clearly be cold by time I returned with cash. Also raining... why would I want to get soaked for their inadequacy. I left and ordered the same from next door which was great. Sorry but this is rediculous and very poor customer service. All you had to do was tell people when they order you are cash only. Won't be trying again. 2 chances no 3rd's.

Very nice. Had king prawn with ginger and spring onion. The ginger was fresh/real and there was plenty of it. Yum!

Best Chinese I have found in the area

Living in the village and having a hen Garden on our doorstep is great. We’ve also had great service and the food is great! We will continue to eat from here with our friends and family :)

Good food but the young Chinese girl was very rude to me for turning up slightly early. Why have seating if you have a problem with me waiting 10/02/19

Always love the food here, and the manically friendly lady serving just adds to the charm. Love the box portion options if you want something a bit smaller than the full size (oversize!) meals. Good vegetarian selection and I heartedly recommend the Kung Po. Spicy sweet and sour with cashews, what's not to like?

Consistently bad food, I really can't understand why people are giving them 5 stars?! Most food seems warmed up, and thrown together. Place next door is far better, and that place is not particularly good either!

Absolutely shocking service and poor quality food. Arrived over an hour late , barely luke warm and staff were unwilling to compensate in any way except a can of coke. Wont be making the mistake of using zhen garden again

worst Chinese takeaway EVER ! waited well over an hour just for 2 dishes. Communication from shop to customer is horrendous, they never let you know if there is a delay. even when you collect they run late. You'd think that after waiting for so long, that the food would taste amazing and fresh. Guess again! heavily recycled cooking oil is all you can taste on the noodles, the chips.....HOW CAN YOU GET CHIPS SO WRONG?! dry as a bone, even sauce cant save them. the prawn crackers are OKish but not great. try and avoid

Very good but long waits at busy times

Not impressed.mixed starter "mums gone to Iceland " prawn toast like lard fried bread. Mains Kung po duck had skin as the meat, bit too spicy for our palette. Black bean sauce was like gravy. Not a good experience for us.

Shame the persons on the other end of the phone doesn't understand English or the word lay-by. Tried to get a takeaway asked for the driver to call me so I can explain as the person who answered didn't understand. An hour later I called and was told yes driver out he has a long deliver 7 miles away he will call in 5 mins. I've never take. 1 hour to drive 7 miles away. So will not order or even try to order from here again. I hope the owners see this

I only eat Chinese from Zhen Garden, nowhere else comes close to the quality of the food.

Real fresh food, the chicken was cooked perfectly enjoyed by all the family young & old delicious 🍥👌🏻
