Zaza's Coffee House in Edinburgh, City of

Needed to get a start in the morning, so we stopped here for a bite. It wasn’t too crowded for mid morning, so we sat in. I got a Cappuccino and he got a Hot Chocolate. For food, I got a Hot Croissant with Bacon and Cheese. He got the English Breakfast for a more fuller meal. It fit well for both of us before we started heading to Edinburgh Castle. Since a college is nearby, there was a younger crowd but don’t worry about fitting in as all are welcome. Heck, they let is in 😄

Visited twice for breakfast as staying nearby, we always visit here as very friendly, welcoming staff and delicious food. We enjoyed tasty coffee and delicious breakfast bagels, a special , bacon, egg, cheese, and sausage, and a house bagel, egg, bacon, and cheese served with a tasty salad and nachos. All our good was well presented and freshly made. Highly Recommend a visit here, see you next time we are in Edinburgh. :) :)

I love the atmosphere of the restaurant, it is small and warm. Lucky for us, our seat had a beautiful view. It was a beautiful rainy day. The employees were helpful and kind. We ordered two kinds of Scottish food, the most important of which was (halal), and it was delicious. We got to know an American family at a table next to us. It added beauty to the spirit of the caring mother and her sweet son. The acquaintance was because of the door of the restaurant 😂 Whoever entered would not close the door and the cold air would blow over them. You would thank us because we had closed the door and see us after 7 o’clock. They entered and left it open and the conversation started again. It was a beautiful day, thank God ♥️

The Asian lady was extremely rude, she ruined the whole atmosphere and she made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable, The water glass had dirt inside and we asked to change it and she said no. Our experience was very bad due to that lady. We were asking her about halal dietry, she was just giving dirty looks, making us unsure and making us feel uncomfortable.

Love love and love everything about this little coffee shop! Food was great, view was astronomical and the service? Even better! Price is affordable considering the location and you take great picture with a view of the castle from inside the cafe! Will come again soon!

Nice little halal cafe overlooking the castle.

We visited twice during our trip, and it was the perfect pit stop on our first day after an early morning. We enjoyed the English breakfast, pancakes, and ginger latte, all cooked to perfection. Thank you!

We felt at home in this cozy place, which we stumbled upon by chance while wandering around Edinburgh. You should definitely experience the warm pleasant conversation of the owner, Mahsun Bey, accompanied by tea, and the English breakfast consisting of halal products....

Extremely bad mannered guy. Was rude on the phone. We Gave him benefit of the doubt but was worse upon arrival. Asked me to get rid of my cafe Nero drink but rolled his eyes in a huff and puff when I asked him to bin it. Unbelieveable customer service. Went to a cafe right next to him called CASTLEGATE CAFE and it was impeccable service , food and manners and actually better ambience.

Very disappointed that my croissant was basically microwaved and handed to me. The BLT sandwich was all right.

Nice food and ambience. However the menu pasted in front of the store was the old price, should update it to prevent misinformation. Dining area quite packed with distance between table is close. Overall the place is clean and price is reasonable.

Staff was ok, but the boss was rude. I unknowingly ordered the wrong way for my eggs, I asked for half cooked, but the correct description was over easy. So I asked can you cook them again, the boss (the chef) reminded me you should have asked for over easy. Innocent mistake to be honest. I did say sorry for misunderstanding. He still charged me extra for that. The food was ok, I ordered the special breakfast. My wife had an important meeting online, so we were there for over an hour. We got there around 9-10am after arriving straight from the airport, so we had a bit of luggage, also had my 3 year old sleeping in the buggy. It was still pretty quiet for a Thursday morning. I think the boss was agitated that we were there for that long. As I went to pay, the boss said, he didn't like my attitude and asked me not to come back ever again! I was shocked. Im not the confrontational type. I dont believe I was ever rude to them. Anyways that was our first experience of Edinburgh after arriving from London, but I didn't want that to ruin the rest of my experience of Scotland. I hope the boss can just chill out a little, its a lovely spot you have, a really nice view of Edinburgh castle. There are ways to talking to paying customers.

Lovely little coffee shop that does a great breakfast. Family and I stopped off here to fuel up before setting off for the day. Great food, great atmosphere and great service...plus the view outside of Edinburgh castle in the background was a lovely bonus 🙂

Got scolded for only using the toilet and leaving. Actually, I left because of the sardines-style seating, extortionate menu, poor hygiene and sketchy-looking food. Sorry! 😅

Lovely place, have halal haggis. Highly recommend the scottish breakfast, pancakes and bagels. The cafe also have great view of edinburgh castle and grassmarket.

Went with a friend. Food was impressively not good. I got a sandwich that I could have made better at home. My friend got a dish that was supposedly vegan but had cheese on it. I wouldn’t waste your money here. Not trying to be mean, I just don’t think it’s worth it at all.

When I was ordering, I heard that I wanted to take away two cups of coffee. My attitude immediately changed and I finished my order impatiently. Then my friend went to the toilet, and I found a seat to wait for my friend. The clerk told me that I had no right to sit here. I explained that I was just waiting for my friend, and she rolled her eyes and left.

At the door they have a menu with prices that do not correspond to reality. Then inside they give you another menu with different prices. It is a deception. Shameful.

Had a lovely halal breakfast, the guy at the reception helped us out to pick their best items. We had special breakfast and Scottish breakfast, i personally loved the Scottish one. Coffees were good as well.

Tea bags; really bad industrial cake... The employees do the restocking in the middle of the afternoon so we see what is on our table passing by in vacuum bags. When ordering there was no more cheesecake, but 5 minutes after refilling a whole new cheesecake was put in the window... Move on, other cafes on the same street are much more pleasant and qualitative.

First time tried Halal haggies. Don't like the taste much but their food was absolutely tasty. It was so relaxing to get a halal breakfast place such early in the morning. The view from the restaurant is amazing as well

The food was good, it was halal too. But the service was pretty disappointing. They were slow in service, worst of all, even after asking for water 5 times, we never got it. Would not recommend and would not visit again.

Maho at Zaza's was an absolute pleasure to meet! He was funny, friendly, and very kind. He gave us suggestions, told us of great places to visit while in Scotland, and even talked about other places in Europe we need to visit given the chance. The food was great, it came out quick, and Maho provided for sauce and some jam upon request! Everyone was very happy with eating here and we'll be back before we leave the city.

The place is really nice, the coffee, scones and cheesecake were supperb. The guy at the counter was really nice and generous. All the best ahead.

Eenvoudig restaurant, veel keuze op menu voor (al dan niet) uitgebreid ontbijt en lekerre lunch. Wij hadden lekkere bagels gegeten voor ontbijt. Snelle service, vriendelijk personeel. Gelegen aan de Grassmarket.

Terrible service and staff are rude. My pregnant wife went in and was abruptly told to wait outside by the tall bald guy. No hello or any estimation on how long for a table. Eventually after 10 minutes a table became available, but then says it was reserved (even though when I asked him if you could reserve he said No). He then walked away mid convo and said wait outside. Turns out his friends came in 10 mins later and sat there. However, food is actually pretty good. Shame the staff have no manners.

We stopped for lunch before visiting the castle A very pleasant place with a beautiful view of Edinburgh Castle. We had hamburgers for the kids with fries, Caesar bagels and Macaroni cheese for us. The service was perfect, the welcome was pleasant, we ate very well, good value for money for the geographical location (bottom of Victoria Street, at the foot of the castle) there is everything to taste, bagel, omelette, salad, pasta ... We fell for a slice of carrot cake that we wanted so much.

Yeah it was ok, overpriced for what it was. Simple food, tasty enough but wouldn’t rush back. A little like a greasy spoon.

The best thing for this cafe is its location. The view is superb. It's so fabulous to see the Edinburgh Castle 🏰 while eating breakfast or having coffee. We tried their breakfast twice while we were in Edinburgh. I cannot say it's great but it's ok. We chose it because it is halal. In my opinion they need a professional barista and coffee machine though.

My friend wanted to visit this place as they serve halal Haggis. Indeed, she ordered the famous Scottish Haggis that comes with French fries and gravy on top. It wasn’t too bad, but I personally wasn’t a big fan. I ordered a cup of tea but didn’t feel very comfortable as the staff kept eyeing us the whole time as if they were not happy with our small order. We left shortly. the staff should be nicer and more welcoming. Good thing about this place is that it serves halal meat, serves a nice selection of desserts, and it's located very close to Edinburgh castle.
