Zara in East Hertfordshire

Very disappointed with our visit ok Friday, some staff were very rude and couldn’t even smile or give eye contact. Waiter threw my cutlery down on the table and ignored my husband when he asked for a drink. Starters were good but the main biryani wasn’t flavourless. They only bought 1 side curry instead of 3. Portions were a good size though.

The best Indian in the area Great service and beautifully cooked food It was our first visit and already planning our next The seafood starter for me was a highlight And the lime chutney is the best I’ve ever had

I havent reviewed anywhere in ages and I suppose I only tend to if the experience was to the extreme. Sadly last night we had a poor experience at Zara. Havent been for a few years and apparently it has changed hands. Not sure if they were short staffed or overbooked. We were only offered drinks once all evening. Trying to get a jug of tap water wasn’t easy. The food was all cooked in a lot of butter/oil. I ordered a shashlik which is usually quite a dry dish. It was swimming in oil/butter. Mixed grills were too and the okra had to be sent back because of the oil. What happened to Asian food being so healthy?

We have been to this restaurant a few times , but our meal on Saturday was very poor , so much so we have decided not to go again , we ordered 2 different dishes with chicken in them , the chicken was so dry we couldn’t eat that much , we did tell the waiter snd he did offer to change it but we said no that’s fine , we paid out bill and left , so unfortunately we won’t be going back

Lovely venue and delicious food. Shame they are breaking licensing laws by refusing to sell wine by the 125 ml small measure. A small glass of wine with my meal would have made the experience perfect.

This restaurant never disappoints food is fresh and tasty. We love it. Menu gives a lot of choice and it is not overpriced.

Just tried to book a table for a couple of weeks time. Asked for 8pm, no one in the dairy but they said could do 8:30. Owner then came over and he said everyone wants 8. He then got the hump and it’s only 30 mins. Obnoxious owner. Would not recommend or will I be going back.

Went for an off the cuff curry with my Dad on a midweek night, the food was delicious. King Prawn Puree & Lamb samosa, Lamb Chops, Chicken tikka masala, 4 sides (no rice) and couple of Naan breads (1 beer and 2 diet cokes) £98 for two people, I even checked the bill, it was correct - seemed to me that's a lot for a curry!! The prices would possibly put me off going back.

4 of us went to Zara Indian in bishop Stortford on Saturday night we were treated like celebrities, as soon as we sat down the manager imran took complete control over what we would enjoy and selected the most beautiful food that have ever had, the restaurant was so chilled out the staff were really good and imran was a absolute star, we will be going back as soon as we can, thank you all for making our night so special. Visited saturday night with my partner. Meal was disappointing. My partners beer had dried food in the glass, so had to return. I had chicken and parts of it were uncooked and drenched in oil. My partners food also chicken was chilli heat but bland no flavour. A shame as a lovely restaurent with good decor. We haven’t been her here for a while since moving out of Bishop’s Stortford but it does seem that it’s gone downhill. Such a shame.

Spent ages waiting to be seated, conveniently told to have a seat in the bar area where we were charged £20 for two drowned G&Ts. If we’d not seen them put the gin in, would have questioned it on tasting! Finally being seated at the table was an act of a contortionist to be able to squeeze between the other tables. We felt we were part of the party sat on one side of us they were so close. The other side equally so but they were quiet. We had to move the table any time to get up and others had to move to let us get out. The menu is very limited with no indication of whether a dish is going to be mild or molten! I ordered something that sounded quite in the middle that I’d never heard of before and effectively got a very bland kind of lamb korma with some orange peel on top. My partners dish was equally bland and we both left more than half. For the prices they charge they sure don’t spend any on actual spices and I would have loved a chemist to analyse my dish to find the saffron content! Too many tables packed too close together, mediocre food, miserable staff and charging West End London prices.. 2 G&Ts; 2 popadoms; 2 main courses; 1 plain rice and 1 flat bread £60 No siree, most certainly will not be going back to this disappointment.

It was if the chef had left his spices at home. I have never had such a bland and tastless Indian meal. The vegetable samosa was unseasoned vegetables in a thick pastry , it was more like a cornish pasty. The main couses tasted bland with no spices or seasoning what so ever . All I could taste was tomato, plain tomato. The service was okay, not the best .Absolutely dreadful and never again.

Amazing been in this restaurant so many times usually have fishes starters which are pieces of marinated salmon, seabass and king prawns and some times kebab. Last time also tried Salmon steak which was delicious also had it with bread nan flavoured with cocount a cashew. Also big selections of gins more than 100s and lots of options of cocktails even you can ask and they will make you up to your taste.

Great food and customer service, Highly recommend for an authentic Indian. We ordered the butter chicken, lamb biriani, chicken korma and another lamb curry and all amazing. I’ll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu and the gin garden

Wow what can I say the restaurant was so well planed out and decorated to the highest stander. The bar is so nice and has very eye catching cocktails 🍹. The Indian food 🥘 is very well seasoned and the chefs there no what they are doing. The Front of house are very well managed and seated us in a very nice place. Are waitress was very polite and welcoming. I will definitely be coming again CHRIS X

We ate here Sunday 13th June. The food was absolutely amazing as was the service . All reasonably priced as well. I love the decor in Zara’s and the nice chilled music.

We ate at 8PM with one other couple. We were shocked at how many people were in the restaurant and how close together the tables were. No social distancing in place. As usual the food was delicious

Love Zara. Our go to for eating in & takeaway. The food is great, I’m really (annoyingly) particular and whenever I ask the waiters in there they are genuinely happy to accommodate.. a lot of the time my husband makes fun of me and they join in but I love it and it really funny. The restaurant is super comfortable, staff are great, food is so tasty.. the only issue is it can be pricey if you like your sides.. but it’s so delicious and an enjoyable experience.

Absolutely amazing visited Zara yesterday with couple of friends. Sea-bass was mouth watering , spiced to the perfection. One of our party had king prawn dish in tomato based sauce delish. We already booked for the weekend as we need to try their gin bar. cocktails looks amazing. Very professional and friendly bartender told us that at the weekends there is a DJ. Couldn’t ask for more atmosphere of this place is exactly what we were looking for at Stortford. If you didn’t try yet go for it you will not be disappointed ❤️

I went mid-week with a group of friends and the service was very poor with long periods in between being given attention. I ordered a Lobster-based main meal which came with two croquettes that were frozen in the centre (when I eventually received my meal that arrived after everyone else's and when everyone else had nearly finished their respective meals!). When we received the bill, it was very expensive and certainly did not reflect the poor quality of the service and food. My advice; try elsewhere: there are much better and cheaper restaurants in the Bishop's Stortford area.

Perfect night out with the family. Visited out fav Indian in stortford on friday night. Food was excellent as always. This time we tried their cocktails wow lemon drop is my number one. My sister ordered Zara fizz and we were amazed of the presentation must try. Another highlight DJ. Music was perfect couldn’t ask for more. Highly recommended

I’ve eaten here a couple of times before but felt slightly disappointed on this occasion.The service wasn’t great. The first example of this was waiting about ten minutes for someone to ask if we wanted to order drinks. The young lady seemed far from happy! The drinks took a while - we’d had popadoms for a good time before the drinks arrived. The food was pretty nice apart from the amount of cloves in my main dish. They were impossible to spot, so I had the pleasure of a perfume explosion in my mouth three times. Next time I’ll probably try a different restaurant I’m afraid to say.

Nice Indian restaurant but a little pricey for what you get. The ambience is good and it is well presented however I was a little disappointed with the food. Good service though and my wife loved the rhubarb gin

First trip to Zara and absolutely loved it.Table for 5 at the front of the restaurant, which is a lot nicer than the back portion, with brisk service and very tasty food.Service could probably do with being a little less rushed when food arrives at the table but otherwise we all thought it was very very good.

This is our fave Indian in BS! Food is always good and service attentive and polite. Great addition is a gin bar - which is put to good use. Not the cheapest but get what you pay for?

Stumbled across this restaurant by arriving at the stanstead airport 24hrs early, best Indian food in a long time, the waiter Mo, is the best waiter & friendliest I’ve ever meet, if your in the area check it out and ask Mo for the specials, great experience.

We visited this restaurant before our flight from Stansted. We do not know the area and found Zara's by chance. The décor was intimate and cosy, the staff very attentive and the food was delicious. Everything was well presented, very tasty and individual spices could be tasted. The meal was excellent value and I only wish I lived nearer, so that I could become a regular. A really, really enjoyable meal and highly recommended.

This was our first time here. Great decor, very helpful staff and food very good indeed. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is that the food was a bit too sweet. Great flavour, but just cut down a wee bit on the sugar, perhaps. All in all, though, we would definitely go back.

Caught up with some friends from Yorkshire, who know a bit about good curry houses.

Always heard about this place, but thought it was just a indian, theres a massive selection of gins, it should be advertised more as a gin bar! We come in and sat at the bar, had a few drinks, sat outside, customers coming in and out for takeaways! Seems so busy! It was only 6pm, we got to a table, menu seemed a bit small but they did do a king prawn balti! Service was brilliant! Mohamed was outstanding, humorous and generous with the chocolates. It was quite expensive per head, but you pay for what you get! Will be back soon!

Food was exceptional, korma was beautiful and the gin selection is massive, brock mans is my new favourite, service was great, Mo, who was serving us! Best waiter in town! Best in the world! Funniest waiter I’ve met. Will be back very soon!

We visited Thursday restaurant first times excellent decorated best Indian restaurant I have been superb meal and service is very very poor. A cheeky date night meal at a restaurant I’ve not tried since it reopened as a new restaurant. There are a good selection of Indian restaurants in Stortford, but this one does stand out. Good value for money, food was tasty and hot. Decor and ambience was fabulous. The staff were exceptional, very attentive without fawning. It was that nice, we’re there again this week for my mother in laws birthday!

It was the nicest, freshest home made samosa I've had in ages - not greasy or oily, but crisp and full of tasty lamb. My onion bhaji was a bit tired by comparison, but the rest of our food was excellent.

Been meaning to try this restaurant for a while and finally got there. The food was, for us, superb. Incredible flavours and I thought fairly priced. We had a table just inside the front door to the right which seems to offer a much nicer atmosphere than the tables to the rear of the restaurant. However, the Gin menu, whilst very extensive, is in my opinion greatly overpriced. Whilst I’m confident the drinks would be excellent, the extremely high prices are unnecessary and will simply make customers think twice, especially as there is a good pub across the road offering a range of gins at half the price. Had it not been for the price of the gins, this review would have been rated as excellent.

The meal here last Friday was definitely a disappointment compared to the time before. The service was definitely much poorer, slow and inaccurate. My wife remarked that the food wasn’t as good either , certainly not for the cost. It’ll probably be some time before we’re persuaded to return.

Excellent friendly staff and a great selection of meals. Gluten free options available staff doubled checked with the chef when unsure. Food was lovely and we all enjoyed our meals. Tables are not to close together.

Went on a Thursday night and I just say the service food and overall feel of this place was fantastic. I used a taste card and when presented no issues at all. Will be returning.

We had a party of 15,for a family meal on Boxing Day.

Had our company Xmas party there. Had to pre order which understood and no issue. 20 people. We had to keep asking them for drinks and the service was sllllloooooowwwwwww. In the end I said shall I get behind the bar.

We had our first visit to Zara's which we are luckily enough to live just down the road from. Usually getting takeaways, we decided to sit in, and we did not regret it. To accompany the usual outstanding food, was the service and atmosphere. Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, offering advice and information on dishes and also importantly the over 200 gins they do!! By far the best Indian in town, dishes are unique and taste amazing!

The meal I had at Zara last night was the curry I have been searching for all my life! It was spicy, very tasty, yet not overpowered with heat/chillis. All three courses were excellent, served promptly by extremely friendly staff. The place is like a tardis, a small front but with a large eating area. It is tastefully decorated. It was busy yet the staff were fully attentive. I have only given it five stars because I cannot give it any more.

We love Zara's. We have been several times, and each time the service has been prompt and polite, and the food has been exceptional - quantities just right and delicate spicing - not too hot but very flavourful. The gin bar is wonderful, and we find that one drink will last the evening.

Bit of a disaster really. We waited 20 min for drinks. 4 separate staff took our drink order. Then they managed to drop two G&Ts; on one of our party. Not the waitresses fault to be fair but the glasses were full, top heavy and carried on a tray. Accident waiting to happen in a packed room. We were moved to another table and when the food eventually arrived two of our meals were very underwhelming. Dry and not a lot of flavour. Most of our drinks were free so there was an upside. Generally though they seem to have a front of house and service issue.

Visited , as was highly recommended by friends but food order took forever and the when the meals finally arrived the food was cold.

A Indian restaurant a cut above the rest. Curry’s full of flavour, stunning surroundings and attentive friendly staff. Also make sure you sample the gin bar.

Had many great meals in this place tried the takeaway tonight part of order missing food was cold and of poor quality called to ask it they could deliver the missing food told they were to busy to deliver it but it would be complementary next time we came in expanded I had payed for what was missing so how was it complementary will never use this place every again

My partner and I arrived at Zara at 7:30pm on Friday night hoping to enjoy a nice dinner in the aesthetically attractive restaurant. We walked into the building and approached the bar hoping to get a table. We were ignored by the bar staff for about 10 minutes, even though they had only one customer to serve. Despite trying to catch the attention of, well, anyone really, we were left standing there like a pair of lemons, even though there was a bartender standing 1 meter away from us, staring at us whilst drying a few glasses.

As a large party (17) it’s would have been good to see a quick and efficient drinks order, the usual 2 popadoms per person then settle into the main order.

Been here a number of times. The food, service and ambiance are always excellent. What’s more, when they are seating you they don’t crowd tables all together, so if you want a quiet chat they seem to do their best to spread you out...

Arrived late on a Monday evening but nothing too much trouble for the staff and food spot on, freshly cooked and full of flavour.

Really nice meal in a great setting. Service was excellent and a really wide range of Indian dishes available. If you like Gin, they also have 200 to choose from. A little pricy, but you pay what you get and the meal was superb!

I wasn’t very impressed with this restaurant the Indian food was bland and expensive for what it was and the service was horrifically slow. We had eaten our popadums before we were even brought a drink and then were ignored for the rest of our meal so we didn’t bother to order anymore drinks. Sorry to say this was not good but there are better places than this.

Been going to Zara for 2-3 years now and the food was always very good. Went there last night and was completely disappointed! Food was bland and the service was mediocre. My Peshawari naan possibly had coconut put in but must’ve been wiped out and not a sign of an almond as described on the menu. My Chicken tikka masala was just sweet with no spice whatsoever and the poppadoms were over-cooked. No-one asked if we were happy with our meal so sorry we won’t be back!

Had a fantastic dinner and drinks with the family last weekend. The food was to die for and the portions big. One of us suffers from cealiac and therefore asked for all gluten free dishes which was not a problem! Definately recommend this place with great service and atmosphere! And let's not forget the GIN BAR! My kind of heaven!! Will be back soon!

We had a 7:00pm table and ordered our food, one of the dishes was meant to be buttered chicken. At very best it was chicken cooked in a tin of tomato’s. When we told the staff about it, we were told we had been given the wrong dish and that the staff needed more training. Never got a discount and it just felt they wanted a fast turn around of people.

Really nice, homemade dips with the papadums. Chicken korma - delicious. I like the feel of the place.

Food was bland, service was slow, overall this was not a great experience. Good gin selection but that’s the only reason for the 2 stars!

We had a table booked for 4 for a Mother's Day Sunday afternoon meal. They had no problem accommodating an additional guest before arrival, then were happy to delay our main courses whilst we awaited another last-minute addition. Food was great, as ever, with very good and friendly service with folk who couldn't be more accommodating for us, and a very nice ambiance. Just a nice place to be/eat!

The team have really upped their game in the face of the opposition. Went there midweek and it was packed. My guest said it was the best Indian he had tasted for years. We had a selection of small meals - no problem for the restaurant - and all were superbly flavoured. Highly recommended.

This was my first visit to this venue as Zara’s, when I was last there it was Chutney Joes. To be fair, I always quite enjoyed Chutney Joes food, but as Zara’s it’s even better and the place has a good atmosphere too. The gin bar is a good talking point and ice-breaker too! A good selection on the menu , between the four of us we had a pretty good variety and everyone enjoyed what they had , plus a bit of cross-tasting!
