Zak's Place in Dudley

I used to rave about Zak's as one of the best Chip shops in the Midlands. I went there today and things have gone downhill. I ordered battered sausage and chips and was overcharged by the woman behind the counter. The chips were mediocre at best but they were the highlight of the meal. The sausage was old and crusty. The batter was like concrete and I nearly broke my teeth trying to bite it. In fact, after the first mouthfull that went in the bin. If I had to put money on it I would say it was yesterdays. I think I've given this review 2 stars just for old times sake....it truly isnt merited. I wont be going back which is really sad to me. Avoid it.

The food here is not good enough for the prices they charge and too expensive to justify being a cheap and nasty place. The guy who owns it is ok, but the two older people who work there round prices up and give short portions. Although with the food being served, maybe that is a good thing.

Friendly and fast service. Great food, and simply the best chips i have tasted since I see a kid. 10 out of 10 would definitely recommend.

Ordered food from Zaks on just eat, when i got there, the food was being done and boy it was fresh and lovely...best chip shop around Brierley Hill.

I was hungry at about 14.30. All the chippies around Stourbridge, for some ineffable reason, are closed. I drive up to Brierley Hill because it has become my last minute shopping Mecca. Spot Zac's Plaice. Cheesy name but looks like a good old fashioned fast food business, Large cod, chips and peas for £6.50. Fair enough. I have almost eaten it all. It is wonderful. Meaty cod, well cooked salty chips and warm mushy peas. Beautiful. Well done to the staff.

Been here today standards have gone down had a kebab and was terrible food tasted like it was 2 days old very dry and very disappointed as it used to be great.

After a trip to merry hill, we stumbled across Zaks Plaice on Brierley Hill high street. The appearance is decieving but the food was amazing. A traditional fish and chip shop where you can chose between battered chips or plain chips. The portions were generous and we considered this to be a great value for money. Pleasantly surprised and will definitely visit again!

Great service with great food. Kebabs are the best as well as the battered chips. Highly recommended when visiting Brierley hill.

Yet again another disappointment, where have all the good chip shops gone. 1.after asking for s&v no taste of either 2. Large fish????? I have seen white bait bigger 3. Fish with batter more than battered fish Good bit food was hot. Thanks but never again........

This place is either passable or horrible, depending on who is in there. If you see the owner (Asian guy, late 30s), you might be lucky and get a decent quality meal and a friendly welcome, but if you see the old woman in there, be prepared for badly cooked food (burnt chips and fish with batter so thick, it could be sold as a fish bun), unfriendly service and really stingy portions (a regular portion of chips with her is not much more than a cone anywhere else). The prices charged (£1.80 for regular chips and £4 for a small piece of cod) are really not value for money, especially if you are served by the woman. In the future, I will be going to anywhere but here. Really people, don't bother unless this is the only place open when you are very very drunk.

l go to Zak's place nearly every other week as they do a good fish an chips and other things as well.

I'm only giving this a 1* as I can't go down to zero. My small kebab and chips meal really didn't taste that good, but I was hungry and so I decided to eat it all. I have pretty much spent the past 48 hours on the toilet recovering... generally speaking I have a very strong stomach. I have eaten street food in Egypt and Morocco without any problems, but Zak's really did a number on me. And that number was two.

Good if you get there on a busy time but on a slower day the food can be dried out and unappetizing.

Visited with mom end of July. We eat in, they have a few tables. I used to come here on and off when Zak did work here. Maybe it's changed hands. The food is served on plates that are far to small. The food falls off onto the table. The plastic ketchup bottle had a weird chemical syrupy excuse for tomato sauce. Avoid it! We both ordered cod and chips mushy peas can of coke and mom a cup of tea.. Bread and butter... Mom said the tea tasted like nats wee. The coke was good!!! That was the only thing!! Food was greasy devoid of any taste except for days old oil it seemed.. Bread was stale butter horrible weird taste..We both had stomach cramps.. The food is awful!!! Avoid Avoid Avoid!!!!

As said the best chippy in town never had a bad meal from here would recommend to anyone . Kebab combo is as most as too are the fish and chips

I always used to get chips from here as a kid when i used to leave brierley hill swimming baths. I decided to try it this year as it seems to be new owners. The chips and kebab meat tasted like they were left over from the day before. The meat was shrivelled up and dry, I will not be going here again such a shame.

its a good place for fish and chips plus you can either eat in or take away.its quite a friendly atmosphere there, and there"s quite a variety of foods to choose from.
