Food was terrible kebab meat like jelly salad non existent sauces non existent Fish tasteless would not recommend at all

fabulous service and very welcoming

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the chips, they were hot fresh and had a very nice crunch to them and not a single one was soggy. The service was fast and the staff very pleasant. The only downside is after you've got your food trying to find a seat in the very noisy and busy food court.

Love this place but food seems to be going downhill. The veggie battered sausages last 2 times have been like mush…completely undercooked. I did mention they were like it last time can they be cooked properly but were exactly the same again. Also the batter seems to have changed and the salad was going brown

Awful experience here to start off with the girl serving was absolutely miserable with zero customer service skills not even a smile. They take your hard earned money for fish that was non existent only oily batter, so basically paid almost £10 for a few greasy chips Will not be going back anytime soon and would not recommend anyone else to go here unless you want some greasy batter with no fish. 1/10 and that’s generous.

Staff could be more happy and polite batter on the fish was greasy and tasteless not worth the price coffee warm water with a dash of coffee

We come oftenly .There was a blonde and thin lady whose assistance was very rude. For the whole service, she completely ignored me

Great quality fish & chips and possibly the best battered chips locally. Only let down was the portion sizes, far too small for the price you pay.

Would never ever eat there again or recommend it to anyone. Had food poisoning since Tuesday, its now Saturday and I am still in excruciating pain. I have never left a review but the pain I am in is shocking, go to eat and next thing you know you’re sweating buckets and in agony. I wouldn’t recommend eating here to anyone and I wanted to do this review so no one else has to go through what I am.

Service is great, some polite staff. food is good however, I have seen staff not wearing hair nets , they do wear caps but not sure if this is sufficient enough.

Girl that served me was very sweet. She made sure I had everything that was going to meet my standard. I never finish my food, but today I managed to. Food was lovely and warm too. Thank you for your service! X

Came here a few days ago for some lunch and was impressed by the variety of options here: they have something for most from classic fish and chips to kids meals and chicken burgers. However, there aren’t loads of vegetarian options. The chips themselves are really crispy and hot, orange chips (battered chips) just as they should be in the west midlands! The only reason i haven’t given this a 5* review is because the hot drinks were very overpriced for what they were, so this slightly let the rating and the place down, but I would still highly recommend you come here for food and some classic fish and chips :)

Tasty Plaice, located in Eat Central, serves up classic fish and chips with a dash of variety. While I didn't indulge myself, my companion opted for the cod and chips combo with a sausage and curry sauce. They said it was fresh and hot, a savory delight from start to finish, though slightly greasier than ideal. However, despite the tasty food, there's room for improvement in the service department. Having personally tasted the chips myself on other occassions, I can attest to their batter freshness and crispy perfection. Despite any minor shortcomings, Tasty Plaice promises a satisfying experience for both traditionalists and those seeking something new.

Not as good as it used to be, prices keep increasing amount your getting decreasing... Now the peas/curry/gravy are in even smaller pots as they can't use polystyrene ones anymore!!! Wooden knife and fork useless as well, doesn't even stick in the chips and knife won't cut the batter on the fish 🤣

Great little chip shop in the middle of Merry Hill shopping centre! I tried the battered sausage with (battered) chips and beans... Nice selection with plenty of choice, big portions and the food was really good! Gonna have to try the fish and chips next time!

Staff like to park in the car park spaces reserved for people with children they climb over the counter to get in the kitchen not a very sanitary place avoid these scumbags

Food was piping hot. Sauce great consistency, battered chips were lovely and the fish was perfect highly recommend stopping off when you shop there 👌

Chips were great, fish batter fantastic, BUT....watery curry sauce and FISH WAS GREY, yes fish was grey inside and watery, tasted very fishy for cod, I'm guessing either not cooked or they use old frozen fish Will not buy again

I love their fish , but the battered chips are my absolute favourite and definitely the best in the UK. Portion sizes and prices are quite good.

Visited with my elderly mother as a treat, or so we thought!! Food- absolutely the worst fish& chips I’ve ever eaten bar none!! very greasy chips followed up with what looked like a very old rubbery fish. Taste lingered in mouth all night. Mom was sick 🤢 I had diarrhoea. Best part of £19 for the tiniest portion possible. Total rip off. This business would not exist if was based in a high street, out of passing mall trade!! It’s a total embarrassment!! Do yourself a favour pass this offering up, or risk the consequences!! Revolting!!

Food is delicious and i would recommend it but only for the food. However the customer service could be much better and the atmosphere could be less tense.

P**s poor service. All be it, ordered on deliveroo an hour an a half before closing. Order was accepted within a few minutes but after nearly an hour and a half, order never arrived and had to request a refund. Used this place a few times before and it's always been superb but this experience has been so disappointing.

I was a regular customer at this plaice. Until they decided to exploit the prices & quantity of food. The fish & chips price elevated from £5.99 to £8.49 , Along with the price increase, thhe fish size has shockingly shrunk, minimised. they can explain the price increase, but why has the fish shrunk instantly. No logic, this is clear cut back to rinse every penny they can, exploitation of customers,

I visited Tasty Plaice whilst shopping at Merry Hill. The Fish & "battered" Chips were nice and golden and were served in a box. A large wooden knife & fork and napkins were also provided. I also ordered a pot of curry sauce. The Fish was quite a small size for the money, however the meal was quite filling. The curry sauce was a bit of a let down as it was very runny, so it had obviously been watered down to make it go further. The girl who served me was very nice and polite, however what shocked me were the 3 male chefs in the kitchen who were doing all the cooking. They all had beards and facial hair (uncovered). They stood talking whilst cooking. I noticed one playing with his beard, one squeezing his nose, one wiping his nose with the back of his finger, and one wiping his forehead with the back of his hand. One man then proceeded to dip fish in batter before frying. I understand that cooking in a hot kitchen must be uncomfortable and sweaty, and this probably happens at every takeaway and restaurant on the planet. But to see this did set my hygiene alarm bells ringing, and made my stomach feel a bit sick. If all 3 chefs were "forced" to wear gloves for food preparation and handling it may have improved things, but they were not. Although the Fish & Chips looked nice and the girls serving provided a good service, I doubt I will order at Tasty Plaice again.

Food was terrible tried explaining what was wrong wasn’t interested offered refund that didn’t want then said no refund, mushy peas old gone off fish was burnt and dry just disgusting.

Cracking fish & chips. Been a regular customer for over 8 years now. Quality has been well maintained over these 8 years, however portion sizes seem to be on the decline

Food is always great and the staff are so talkative and lovely!

Always lovely food from here however on last couple of occasions I feel that the portion sizes are getting smaller each time and this is one of the most expensive within eat central if continues we are unlikely to return.

Had a delivery today through Deliveroo. Got to be THE best chippy dinner we've had for ages! Superb chips and the batter on the fish was spot on, not soggy like other local chippies. It says on the box, "probably the fish and chips in the world" and it's about right! Easiest 5 star review I have ever done!

Food was delicious, staff were very friendly and helpful, food was really fresh and hot, battered chips are great, they also do kebabs as well, served in a take away box, you can also have beans, mushy peas or curry as a side, either over the food or a separate container, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Today I asked for cod, chips and gravy. I didn't make it clear once but twice what I wanted however I was given curry. This wouldn't of been an issue if I wasn't severely allergic to curry. However my partner went up and explained with the food and they changed it.

Best place to eat at Merryhill. Best fish & chips near to us. Friendly, polite staff. Place is clean, tidy, and food always hot and of a high quality. Wouldn't think about going anywhere else for fish & chips.

The fish & chips tasted good , but unfortunately for next couple of days I was unable to eat any food as still couldn’t digest the food , customer service good . I guess thanks anyway but just go say on the oil 🙏

Fish and chips as they tasted in my younger days highly recommended very taste treat

Went here today for lunch as I have been so often. Had jacket potato. It was boring, poor quality potato, mixed salad combined of lettuce. To top it all it was £5.99. Ive heard of people who object to paying for jacket potato and I'm not mean. But won't be going again and very will not be paying £6 for a jacket potato.

The food was nice , and they had run out of chicken kebab, which was a shame, but the lady who served me apologised and could not have been more helpful.

Best fish and chips around, good value and always fresh.

Great food, to be honest. I was surprised how good. But the whole shopping centre was freezing cold. Nothing worse than sitting still in the cold to eat.

Ordered the fish bites with chips, with curry sauce. Found the staff to be friendly and polite when taking my order and serving my food. My order was hot with a generous amount of chips. Fish bites were cooked well, maybe alittle greasy but tasted nice. Curry sauce was very loose and lacked flavour. If i didn't know it was there, I probably wouldn't have noticed. Chips were good, but found it strange that they were battered. The batter didn't make them as crispy as i would have hoped. just gave them a different texture. Overall if I go to the shopping centre again, I would eat there again, just won't have the curry sauce. 🙃

Best FOOD served at the merry hill food court. I visit merry hill weekly with my 2 children and we have lunch at the food court. I have eaten at various different restaurants, however tasty place had the freshest fish and food & the girls working there are super kind, friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend for anyone visiting who wants fresh food at a great price with really good customer service.

Probably the best tasting kebab I've had around this area! Chips not too bad either Would have left 5 stars but meat wasn't very warm

Went there with my partner and it was such lovely food seemed very hygienic where the food was cooked and staff were fast and friendly. Not too greasy or strong the perfect flavour exactly how fish and chips should be would recommend to anyone. its not the cheapest comes to about 16+ for 2 but it's filling and worth it.

Nice food, located in the food hall where there are many alternatives yet I would always choose this place! The drink can be purchased in a XL capacity which is essential with a meal like this. Also, the staff at this branch are very friendly and helpful (Aug, 22).

Tasted fab, but it's now 5am and I'm out of bed throwing up bits of my dinner from last night, don't need to say much else really. Probably not a reflection of the entire restaurant but something has made me ill, possible that someone needs to pay more attention to hygiene before serving.

Fish and chips tasted nice but was tepid which ruined it. Skin also left on fish which maybe how things are done now but when food is luke warm it spoils the taste.

Absolutely disgusted by the service of this restaurant Ordered food via the just eat app on Saturday 1st October. This restaurant took my order at 1:19pm and didn’t deliver the order until 6pm that evening as they took over 5 hours to assign a driver from just eat. First of all why take orders when there’s no delivery drivers in the area and secondly I called the restaurant continuously to cancel the order after 1-2 hours of waiting and after the just eat app had no cancellation option. Each time I called the restaurant it just rang out. What an absolute waste of money time and food. Disgusting.

Lovely girls serving here! Always super friendly and they attend to you as soon as you go up to the stand. Food is good, would’ve been 5 star but one of the men that work here wasn’t very welcoming, the girls made up for that

This is now a 'Merchants' fish and chip shop that follows on from their high standards. Very fast service, very hot food and everything was delicious.

Very nice fish and chips. Fish was nicely battered and the fish itself was white and tasty. Chips were a good size, well cooked and not greasy. Curry sauce was also very enjoyable. A very nice meal quickly and efficiently served. Would recommend.

Very horrible young lady running this place! Has a very bad attitude problem. Very uncaring towards families! Staff heard being abusive towards other families with young kids! Frightening. Staff are awful at getting customers orders right during busy times (as quite rightly mentioned in other reviews!) and then blame the customers, refusing to accept responsibility for any errors they make! Total chaos! I agree with other reviews- this place has certainly gone downhill over the years ! Avoid!

Had fish and chips with curry sauce and roe chips and curry sauce. Firstly.... Absolutely no taste at all. Fish was bland and tasteless. Was all batter and when broken open was slimey and Hardy no fish inside and gave me a bad stomach. The roe was half the thickness of a roe anywhere else but twice the price and thickened up with batter. The curry sauce is watered down also. This place is basically a rip off I won't be using this place ever again. I'll go next door to harpers. Fresh. Presentable food unlike this joke of a chip shop. The girls are also very rude and pressurising. Avoid this place at all costs people.

My husband had the chicken donner and chips from this place and its given him food poisoning. I think the chicken was off or not properly stored or prepared. I wouldn't recommend eating here.

It’s okay , cheap food whilst shopping

Stay clear of this place worse chippy I have ever been to no taste to the food very over priced I can get better for alot cheaper the only good thing about this place is the front staff serving the food I noticed the guys in the kitchen handling food with no gloves or hair nets on.

Visit Tasty plaice whenever we go Merryhill however on Monday service was very poor the girls who work there could not cope with the number of customers. My Bill came upto £23 when I got home I was charged £32 silly me for not checking receipt but I couldn't help feel sorry for her NEVER again I will make a mistake of not asking for a receipt even if a damsel in distress can not cope with customer pressure. Time to venture out to new eatery when I go Merry hill next time

Been to this place many years times over the years but lately l have notice the portions have been a little small and l have been thinking about moving on to another chippy so today one of the staff acctuly took off my portion of chips one chip that's it lm off !!!

Got the fish and chips with curry sauce. Didn’t enjoy it as much. Will try the donner meat the next time to see how that is.

Brill food and staff are polite

I found the staff, mainly young girls serving to rush you with the order. They had no patience and gave no time to think as I was ordering a few meals. Please allow customers a little time to place each order and don't rush them along to complete the order and pay. The food was nice.

Usually quite nice food and not sure what has gone wrong today but 3 of my family including myself are not feeling good after the food we ate earlier. .

food is nice,no problems but when you order take-away and part of order is missing,well thats when it all goes pair shaped,called shop and after 20mins no answer,why bother with a phone if your not going to answer,so on to plan B drive over with reciept in hand to see what they say 👍🤨

Nice fish & chips, and lovely staff. Saw the previous review and told them it said the portions were on the small side and the young man at the counter reassured me it would not be. Got our orders and indeed they weren't - he ensured both my friend and I got healthy portions. Happy customers that would definitely return

To expensive for size of portion fish is rubbery

Food is lovely however the Portion sizes are awful and have reduced in size over time. They have changed so much as service isnt as good as it used to be. Even from an observation point food hygiene standards of the food servers is poor.
