Zaika in Chesterfield

Absolutely shocking food. All that is worst about "curries" in the UK. We've just left most of our takeaways and thrown them in the bin. Examples are the prawn puri and chicken passanda. Expecting a nice bit of unleven bread with a little salad and spicy prawns, we were astonished to be faced with an aluminium tray containing a roti filled to the brim with some "out of a tin" korma slop and a few rubbery prawns. Not a great start. The passanda was that bright pink/red stuff you encounter in the worst curry houses with a few bits of questionable chicken. The whole thing tasted like weird tinned tomato soup. Neither of these dishes had any discernable spicing that we could identify. Without going on in any more detail every other dish we had was equally disappointing. No real knowledge or skill in preparing what should be outstanding dishes each with unique and memorable flavour balances. The only memories are those of huge amounts of salt and weird unrecognisable food. The worst take away food we've ever had.

Excellent food, great atmosphere and fantastic staff. We visited via recommendation. We were not disappointed. Four of us ate for £69.00. Throughout our meal there were many guests coming into the restaurant for meals and take away. All were given a warm welcome. The staff were so friendly, and made so much effort: chatting and so welcoming. We would definitely visit again!

Food is fantastic really tasty, I am very picky with my food and this was just perfect. Staff can't do enough to help you and make sure you have everything you need. We will definitely be back soon 😊

Our host made us feel like royalty and really helped to make our holiday special. We had a lovely evening. One of us wanted extra spicy, the host and chef were concerned that they got it right and took care to listen and make helpful suggestions. They insisted we send it back if it was not spicy enough or too spicy. No need, it was perfect. Food was fresh, tender and delicious.

I had been recommended Zaika by a friend about a year ago, but I remained faithful to the take away that I had used for over 25 years. I got fed up of getting rock hard (yesterdays) bahjis & soft poppadoms. So for the first time tonight we gave them a try. Wow! The best meal we have ever had, absolutely perfect. I have travelled the world and eaten in thousands of places, and it's rare, for the money and location that you find a place where the food is simply outstanding. This little unassuming Indian eatery is simply one of the finest restaurants I have come across. The food , for me, was like eating in India with the depth of flavour I seek , but rarely find. The staff very helpful in advising and indeed once advised, they also deliver on that! I would highly recommend this establishment.

Our local in Nottingham was closed so we tried this place before going to the theatre in Chesterfield. We were both pleasantly surprised how good this place is and was better than most curries I’ve had in Nottingham. We will definitely be making excuses to come here again!

Went for a rare meal out this evening and although we have several tried and tested restaurants, decided to take a look at trip advisor reviews to make a choice. Big mistake, although it seems to rate quite highly, the reviewers obviously have not had much experience of what could be classed as a good curry. The restaurant itself is quite run down and in need of a major face-lift, bright lights, old tables, tatty chairs and fact it takes cash only, should have rung alarm bells. The starters were ok-ish, nothing out of ordinary, a sugary sweet prawn puree and artificially coloured mixed kebab, but the mains were absolutely inedible. I chose the prawn kashmir, unappetising looking sauce with great hunks of banana (not pureed or finely diced) but my partners lamb pasanda completely overshadowed this, minute and few lamb pieces, in what can only be described as a tin of tomato soup. I had about 2 mouthfuls and my partner, not much more, maybe the moral of the story is stay at home and order from the tried and tested. The only positive was the 1 x waiter serving the whole restaurant, seemed pleasant, but even so, the jug of Lassi we ordered before our starters, had still not materialised when we had paid and was ready to leave.

We rang for details of certain dishes and the person was extremely helpful and made suggestions of things they could prepare. Best vegan choices we’ve found and definetly the best tasting, with a lovely depth of flavour. Non- vegan dishes also outstanding. Now our ‘go to’ place in Chesterfield

Well, what a gem, a real find. Absolutely stunning food and the best service I have had in an Indian restaurant for as long as I can remember. Perfect manners and wow the food. We had poppadoms and the pickle tray, mix kebab, special chicken korma, garlic chilli lamb and two rices. £31.25 Wow. Definitely worth all 5 stars. There is a Co-op opposite for alcohol of your choice ( they don't have an alcohol licence) and at the time only cash was accepted (cas machine at Co-op so absolutely no dramas. Fully recommended.

We ordered a takeaway from here on Saturday evening. We were amazed at the promise that our food would be here in 30 mins but sure enough it was. We enjoyed all the meal and flavours were very tasty. All the food was hot and put in mostly recyclables. I was really impressed by the gentleman who answered the phone. So polite and friendly. All in all fabulous 👌

Visited this restaurant on a quiet Sunday evening while staying away. Excellent food and service. Brought our own wine and were given water. Friendly staff/owner portions good and great sauces..all had distinct tastes. Best tarka dahl, chef speciality. Always a good measure of quality. Would definitely go again. From where we stayed in premier inn outside Chesterfield was a short drive. Esy to find and plenty of parking.

The best service for an Indian restaurant I've been to in a long while! Food was amazing and tasty and they'll make it to your exact preference. I ordered Onion bhajis for me and my family and can confirm that it was made from an Authentic Indian Restaurant, not too dry and not too oily👌Just PERFECT (DEFFINATLY RECCOMEND TRYING THEM) We also ordered the Biryani and this was the dish that sold it for me for a garuntee return of us returning to the place‼️ Overall, an amazing place to go too for you and your family🥰

Good place to have Indian Cuisine. Non vegetarian dishes we had was really good. Vegetarian dishes was ok. But don't remember what we ordered. Lamb Biryani was good. They made medium spicy and less hot for kid. It was really good. The chicken tikka was good as well.

Onion bhaji was way too oily . Veg Malayan Curry was good . But the biryani was ok . Everything was oily .

We usually eat here once a month . I think it is the best Indian food in Chesterfield. We are always served by Shah who is polite and attentive. Bring your own booze We won't eat anywhere else.

Wonderful! Visited on a Sunday night and we dined in. The server,Shah, was extremely attentive. He inquired about the spice level for our selections and even brought a sample for us to try, prior to serving us. He also asked about the room temperature and asked if we wanted ice in our water. (We are American) The food was phenomenal. Thanks for a lovely meal.

I had a takeaway from Zaika on Sunday evening was recommending by a friend , ended in the bin , the main course shaiha chicken was way too salty , the side dish , chana aloo with 1/4 madras strength was so bland and both very watery and way more expensive than our normal takeaway , just thought I'd try somewhere different , wish l hadn't , the only thing that was any good was the rice and the bloke that served me , a very nice bloke

What can I say? If you haven’t been to ZAIKA yet , then you’re definitely missing out. I dined here last night with a friend of mine. We were both looking for an Indian restaurant that served true authentic flavours in Eastwood. It’s safe to say we have now found that place! The restaurant itself is very well laid out with a really nice ambience to it . It was really busy but the service was still fantastic. We were greeted by the owner who was very welcoming. He made us a special lamb dish which was served with plain rice and a cheese naan. It was absolute 10/10!!! Just like the service. Would highly recommend if you’re looking for the real deal!

This is a great little restaurant for a casual Friday night curry, with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The food is amazing with rich, flavourful sauces and good quality ingredients. The breads are delicious, and the chicken pakora are perfect! The poppadoms and pickle tray to start with are an absolute must. We usually pop to the Co-op across the road to grab some beer and wine to take with us, and the waiter/front of house guy is so friendly and accommodating, it really does add to the experience! I would highly recommend for a simple, authentic meal which somehow makes me reminisce of more simple times! There is definite nostalgic vibe to this place, which makes you leave with a warm glow as well as a full tummy! Well done Zaika, don’t change will you!

We are from Birmingham so love our curries! Stopping in Old Brampton: ordered from menu in property . Called great service delivered in less than time suggested. Starters were good BUT main curries were to say the least a terrible disappointment! Ordered mincemeat Bhuna slightly hot ( quoted on phone as having a kick ) totally bland ; might as well have opened a tin of Frey bentos mincemeat and onions! Chicken Dupiaza supposed to be Madras hot ... have had tins of Aldi Curry that was hotter! We had planned to order again on Friday but will stick to fish and chips and curry sauce £45 not well spent.

Don’t let the fact that this is a very busy takeaway and home delivery restaurant put you off. The restaurant is smart and clean, the welcome is warm, and the service pleasant and efficient.

Well after having decent food the previous time, I bought 3 curries for the family, what a mistake, they was just water with no taste, 3 different curries all tasted the same, disgusting, never again, obviously the chef does not taste the food, management need to check what's being sent to customers

When I first visited Zaikas just after it opened, it was by far the best "Indian" restaurant in Chesterfield. The food was fantastic and the service impeccable.

I was so looking forward to a takeaway from here, getting such good reviews and family had said how good it was. What we had this weekend was terrible, I've never had such wishy-washy food. Utterly tasteless, very few chickpeas, mainly water, Tarka Dahl lacking lentils, again runny and awful. As for the Roti, well rubber doesn't bounce as well as this. Allegedly, there was spinach in my dishes, but all I could see was a few strands of green grass.

Visiting the area for a long weekend and found this place online, glad we did because it was a great takeaway. Pick of the meals was one of the specials, Chicken Multani. Would highly recommend.

I visited with a few friends for a catch up. Good quality food. Lovely starters and main course and very reasonably priced. It’s a bring your own alcohol venue and there is a co-op across from the restaurant where alcohol can be purchased if your lucky enough not be be the designated driver!

I’ve just had what’s possibly the worst Indian take away meal that I’ve ever had. The starter was cold And the main curry dish was so bland and swimming in water. My first take away in over a year and this happens. Si disappointed.

This is one of the hidden gems of Chesterfield. I last visited over two years ago and my return on a family holiday did not disappoint. The meal was excellent in value for money and taste. The staff were very welcoming and helpful with the menu choices and whilst I did turn up by chance it seems that word about this place has spread because it filled up very quick ... so call an book not to be disappointed. Note that they do not sell alcohol but there is a co-op directly opposite and they are very happy for you to bring your own.

Had an enjoyable meal and very friendly warm welcome. We liked the fact you take your own drink but we’re not aware on booking so good job can dash across to the co-op. Food was tasty only thing that let it down was using tinned mushrooms, it’s so easy to use fresh, so if you do that it’d be 5 stars.

The food is always great and can never fault it. The staff are really friendly and helpful and there is always a personal atmosphere rather than just a customer-staff one. I travel all the way up from Nottingham for the butter chicken and the lamb tikka masala. It's a shame they don't deliver this far!

Have been enjoying curries from Zaika for longer than I can remember. They are consistently good. Meat is always tender. Best onion bhajis and naans we’ve eaten. Chef will often tailor food to give different combinations, just not when he is really busy. All of our friends that we have introduced to Zaika have gone back for meals. What better recommendation.

I phoned at 5.15pm for a delivery of a meal for 4 with starters and sides for 6.30. I chased my order again at 6.50 and 7.15. The staff on the phone were great and reduced the price of the order to compensate for its lateness. Unfortunately because of the length of time it took the delivery man to travel 2 miles in the car (over 45 minutes) all the food was clock cold. I was able to rewarm some dishes but the naan was like cardboard and all of the food was not at its best due to reheating. So disappointed.

Me and my partner are relatively awkward in that I have an allergy to nuts, she has an intolerance to gluten. Everyone we've ever spoken to has always been very understanding and knowledgeable when it comes to what is in their food. Very comforting. We go for the chicken Buryani, and either a bhuna or rogan josh. Very good food, very well priced, very helpful and pleasant staff. Why would we go anywhere else?

Tucked away in a strip mall, but the interior decor is nice, the service is friendly, and the food is very good. Nothing crazy or exotic, but familiar dishes like chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo are very well executed. We went on a Wednesday night and the place was full, so obviously it has a loyal following. If I lived nearby I definitely would be a regular customer.
