Ashoka in Chesterfield

Visited 9n a week day. It was fairly quite. Ordered papadoms, pickle tray, mixed meat curry, naan and mushroom rice. The lamb and chicken in curry was very very dry but prawns were spot on. Gentleman offered to make me a new one but it was kind of late because started to tuck in so said it's ok. Rice was nice and naan was fresh and one of the best I have had. I have asked for takeaway for the leftovers and it wasn't too much to ask. Gentleman made deduction on my bill because of the meat which was nice of him and also you get 10% off if you pay by cash.

The food is always fantastic and the guys always look after us. Chefs special Sashlik is fantastic.

Tasty food good service will be re ordering

It's tasty, but VERY expensive and missing the basics (have always had to pay for poppadoms, but you assume raita and onion salad comes with starters as it has always done, but no, now you have to pay additionally now for this on top of your starter dish, making everything very dry to eat). Main chicken balti was plentiful (enough for leftovers even with a shared rice) and tasty, but Other Half's Lamb Passanda was more like a soup with not much meat at all. Good food but not good value.

Visited on Saturday night after not being in Ashoka for years, but I can honestly say the food is just as amazing as it always was. Staff friendly, attentive, and accomodating. Would definitely recommend and I certainly won't be leaving it as long before we visit again 😊

I ordered a buttered chicken, mushroom rice and a peshwari naan. While it was edible, the buttered chicken I found to be watery, the rice a touch greasy and the naan cooked, 'just about'. Would I use it again, only if I had tried all the others and found nowhere better.

It's always good food from Ashoka, but this evening our meal was exceptional. My only slight issue would be the chicken was a bit dry, but the bhajis, the sauces, the rice, and the breads were fresh and full of flavour.

One of the nicest curries I've ever had. The bombay aloo was amazing normally I pick the potatoes out and leave the sauce but I ate every last bit so much flavour. The chicken was really nice quality as well which makes a change from other places ive tried. I rang them up before I ordered to make sure they cater for my allergies which the gentleman I spoke to was super helpful and made me feel at ease

the worst curry I've ever seen had quite literally a layer of oil on top of it completely inedible and rice was just mushy, will never order from here again first and last time

ordered take away. Order came fast which surprised us but was short on what we wanted. Emailed for a partial refund and the email address didn't work, so called to say they couldn't do it. the food looked pretty sad for what we paid. Gone down hill, won't be ordering from them again.

On our annual trip back from Spain, we visited friends & family in Chesterfield. We asked a dear local friend for a good Indian restaurant as they are hard to come by in Spain. She recommended this one and we were not disappointed. Excellent, friendly service and gorgeous food. We had papadums with an excellent pickle tray selection, followed by starters of lamb and chicken tikka. For our main courses I had chicken dupiaza and my husband had chicken korai. We accompanied them with a portion of bombai aloo and a plain nann. I had sparkling water and my husband had 2 pints of kingfisher lager. All delicious and very reasonably priced around £60. They also do a roaring trade in takways too. We will definitely be back next year.

Food was good, but the customer service not so much.

Been here tonight 21st June for my wife's birthday. Had a lovely hot and flavoursome meal, Chicken Jal Jinga superb and never had before. Very attentive staff staff, competitively priced highly recommended recommended and apologies for my pecadillo earlier in the evening. Thank you.

Very bad customer service; when we advised one of our party has a nut allergy we were told to ‘not worry about it’ very rude manager - will not return.

We managed to get ten of our family together in Chesterfield for night out - we dont see each other that often as we are spread far apart from Newcastle to Cambridge and Oxford-ish (Princes Risborough). Having booked a hotel we found what seemed a reasonable venue for a nice dinner together and booked Ashoka three weeks in advance. We were not disappointed - the welcome was excellent and friendly and our table was ready and waiting. The food was really very good and whilst there were many varying meals and side dishes ordered, everyone was pleased with their meals and the service we received. Food was delivered fast and with professionalism. In terms ov value - it was first class We had a few rounds of beers and three/four bottles of wine and bill came to £300 for 10 people - as I say great value (its nice to see a restauranmt charging value for money for wine and drinks - it doesnt happen often as I am well aware. If we are ever in the area again we would happily use Ashoka again and would recommend to anyone that apprreciated good food and service

Excellent food, sevice, well recommend, nothing too much trouble

Driver went to the wrong address 15 mins away from our home so food a bit cold. But food wasn’t great anyway - dry curry in a paste like sauce and no spice to our dishes at all despite them saying with chilli’s there was a couple of chilli’s in the food but unless we ate them there was no spice to the meal as no spice to the ‘sauce’. Even the pickle sauce with the pickle tray wasn’t like proper pickle it was like the mango sauce but pink, sweet but did have a bit of spice to it.

Came for an early dinner whilst out on business on my own. Looked at a couple of options but chose Ashoka and very pleased I did. Food very tasty and attentive staff Would definitely come again next time I’m in the area. Even got a free chocolate with the bill!

Absolutely Disgusting and Rubbish customer service by the manager. I have travelled all around the world but this is the first Restaurant with the rudest customer service by the manager. We were sitting and asked them to take the order and the manager came to take order, then he suddenly snatched the menu Infront of us from the table and told us that this restaurant is not for you. What does it mean? I asked him the reason and he was quiet as he had no answer....Just Kept on saying leave the restaurant. What kind of behaviour is this. I don't know whether the owner of the restaurant knows what kind of behaviour is the manager having with their customers. Absolutely Worst !!!!!!!

Been coming here for the last 4 years. Found by accident. But been back every year. Food great, plus lots of it. Never asked for a dogey bag before, but have tonight. Try it and be impressed. I'll be back ! Oh, By the way service was brill tonight, so attentative. Hard not to give a 10

usually great but every thing over cooked this time chicken madras was redicously tough even the onion bajis and bread were so over cooked they had to be thrown not good for a £75 meal

Food is well presented, smells amazing. A little disappointed the paneer in my Noni curry was bland to my taste but mix vegetarian starter was good and other dishes on our table.

Not the best in town! I think my vindaloo was a ready meal!. You'll need to order extra rice too because you don't get much in one serving. Value for money is just not there.

Got a table at short notice , the food was excellent as was the service. Portion size just perfect. The restaurant was very busy but the service was not affected at all . We left property there by mistake, phoned 2 days later, it had been kept safe and I collected, thank you to the staff 😁

Just ordered a takeaway, spending nearly £60, and super disappointed. The food was cold and the onion bhajis were raw inside and super oily so all in all pretty inedible. We’ve had a takeaway from here before and it was ok and the food tasted fresher, but I wouldn’t come back or recommend after today at all I’m afraid - really bad!

Without question the best Indian food in Chesterfield! 1st class on every aspect from ordering to eating . Delicious !!

Whilst this meal tasted amazing, & I mean delicious! The chicken was cubed, that would indicate to me it was probably frozen which is disappointing at the cost. Still tasted amazing but at the price I expect t fresh ingredient’s

So delicious, fresh and hot food

They insist that you sit down while waiting for food. I wanted to stand and they told me to sit down again... the resteraunt was empty so why does it even matter? Then one guy just looks at you gone out. Food was very average, dry chicken and poppadoms are so thin. Second time I've ordered from them, both a year apart and same experience each time, so they obviously won't change any time soon. Won't be going a third time.

I have eaten many times at Ashoka… never had a bad one. Last night we ordered a takeaway for delivery. Prompt fmdivery and the food was excellent. I am a gluten free eater and they were very easy to order from and made it clear which dishes I could eat. Great food again!!

Really good food! Prices aren’t expensive, good price for value. Come out extremely filled. First time coming and certainly won’t be the last.

I went to the restaurant for a light dinner,but they didn't serve me the food as they have a weird rule , u have to order something from all the 4 zones of their menu, otherwise they won't serve you !!!! As I wanted only 2 dishes , they didn't serve !!! Disappointed!!!

We had a superb meal with friends who were visiting from Wales. Very helpful staff, high quality dishes from a varied menu and great value for money.

Food and service were excellent. Only gave 3*s for atmosphere as it was a little chilly in the restaurant. Easily rectifiable and I will be back as overall it was excellent and if you are checking....it also gets 5* on scores on the doors!

Excellent service from the staff and great food.

Normally, it's a great curry from here, but tonight, not so. My curry was cool and rice cold. Naan bread was also cool, but not so bothered about that. It wouldn't surprise me if it was late, but to be on time and cold is very disappointing.

A lovely warm welcome from Malik and the Ashoka team on a damp cold November evening. Speedy drinks order and service. Poppadums and pickle trays again brought quickly while we perused the extensive menu. Starters and mains top notch for all four of us, the lamb was so tender and naan’s light and fluffy. A great evening, we were looked after very well and the food was excellent. We will most definitely return!

We went to the Asoka on a quiet evening without having made a prior reservation. Service was prompt and friendly and the Menu had a pleasing range of dishes. We had drinks and shared a meal of Chilli Chicken Rogan , Vegetable Jalfrezi , Tarka Dall , Vegetable Rice and a Keema Nan. The food arrived in good time and was very tasty and well-presented. Nice cosy ambiance to the Restaurant and the cost of the meal was reasonable. We had not eaten here for many years and so this proved to be a most welcome return. To be highly recommended if dining in Chesterfield Town Centre.

Second time ordering from Ashoka and once again the food was delivered on time and piping hot. Lovely selection of curries, rice and side dishes for a family birthday takeaway. Thank you, very happy with our meal.

Probably one of the best curries we have had for a while. Love to try something new and this curry really surprised us on how delicious it was. The Naan bread really sold it as the flavours of those beats any naan bread we have had

Maybe it's because I make curries at home but I never tasted a butter chicken so sweet in my life but I think it's unfair because legit curries vs ones you get from takeaway and for obvious reasons. Making legit curries isn't possible on the scale needed likely. Hence why I can forgive the Rogan though I make that at home too so I know. Most people around here couldn't handle a legit rogan. Food wasn't bad quality though, no bad review from me just was blown away by sweet butter chicken.

This was our first time at the restaurant and the food was absolutely fantastic.The poppadoms and chutney tray were very fresh. Our mains were very tasty and the meat was very tender, chicken and lamb. Malik the owner was excellent too..what a very good experience.

The curry is one of the greatest curry i have ever had. Naan is extremely delicious. I would recommend garlic naan.

Had a take out … Food delicious Popadums soggy and very poor.. Will use again but just avoid the poppadums .. delivery took over an hour- but this is understandable as popular take out…

Nice curry but karahi was lacking onion, fresh tomato and pepper which are the key ingredients, would have been 5* otherwise.

Worst curry … Raita was warm yoghurt, no mint or cucumber . Lamb was so chewy it was edible. Dhal was watery more like soup. Naan was good ! Overall pretty fed up .

Was good food tasty and good value for money. Saw the driver drive past a few times before he called to find us though.

The rice was nice, the Tikka also. The chicken in the Korma was tough though. From the high rating and price I did expect a little better quality.

We had a while to wait on collection even though order had been phoned through an hour before but this is not normally the case. Other than that it was as good as always.

Always excellent. I tried something different to my usual Jalfrezi- the Ashoka special was equally as nice.

We were a group of 6. Staff very friendly and efficient. 1 of group is a lactose intolerance. The server was spot on with advice about what he can or can’t have and why. We all thought the food was excellent and a few of the group thought it one of their best ever curries. If we return to Chesterfield, would definitely go again.

I'd mentioned in a previous review that we'd stopped having onion bhajis as they were a bit bland. Last night we ordered food a little later than usual and had bhajis which were lovely. The rest of the meal was also outstanding, as usual

Bland Bangladeshi food , poor taste, oily. But the service was good & it looked clean. They were polite & courteous. Wish the food was good and they didn't claim they were Indian (they need to feel proud of their own country).

Owner is now ignorant, and although food taste OK my mum recently had a meal here and one day later got took into hospital with Ulcerative Colitis which doctor said could be caused by unclean restaurants! The last time I had a meal here they never bothered to ask if the food was OK, although they did ask my dad right at the end of the food was OK. I would say avoid now... used to be great but not now. There used to be managers running this place back in the good times so think the owner is not very happy at having to now come back and run the place again, RIP were never coming back!

The food quality and taste is Always superb from Ashoka, Always. HOWEVER… it was like warm at Best. And I had to Nuke it in the microwave, which was disappointing.

Both the rice and tikka masala were watery, we had a peshwari naan too, all 3 were unfortunately non-discript. On a positive note, the delivery was very fast and the driver was nice too. I would not re-order from this place.
