I love a good curry and I’ve been struggling to find a decent one in Chesterfield. This was hands down the best one I’ve had since being down here! If you are debating where to go for a tasty Indian and you’re reading this review, take the chance and go. You won’t regret it! Food was absolutely delicious. If you want something specific they will amend dishes to how you like it.

Been here before but looks like owners have changed. Shocking service, very rude and won't ever go again!

We turned up on time to collect our curry, drove it 5 minutes home and found it to be luke warm. The meal we had was very bland and watery with gristly chicken. We’re disappointed after being repeat customers here for many years. It’s safe to say we won’t be visiting again

Food always amazing here, great portions , absolutely brilliant staff, can’t do enough for you. Never leave without booking in for another meal. Amazing. Thank you for a wonderful night and brilliant food. X

Possibly the worst experience when ordering a takeaway. We ordered a takeaway and was given a time for delivery. When it was 30 minutes past the expected delivery time we rang the restaurant and was told it was on its way and being as we only live 5 minutes away from the restaurant we expected the delivery to be imminent. After another 30 minutes waiting we contacted the restaurant asking where our order was and the response was I’m not mystic Meg how am I supposed to know. Absolutely disgusting attitude and customer service from what was once a brilliant restaurant now it is a place which should be avoided at all costs. It is a shame because the food is lovely but the staff are a disgrace. We will never go here while these people are in charge which probably won’t be for much longer with this standard of service

First time ordering from Zahid & definitely won’t be the last, completely met expectations, the guy on the phone was polite and helpful and followed my instructions for the curry perfectly. Food came quick and was very tasty. We will definitely have to come for a meal at the restaurant next, thank you

I'm going to admit to being surprised. I had low expectations going in and it was relatively quiet. Then it came to the food - ordered a Zahid Special ( not sure if that's a 100% right but basically the house curry). What a pleasant surprise, nicely spiced, tasty and most of importantly for me plenty of meat! Couldn't really fault it and has me wondering whether it's time to defect from Gulab! Definitely going to try again and hope my changed view and optimism isn't misplaced.

Small and I think family owned so worth visiting. The food is really good but the place is dated and needs a good clean. Waited over an hour for food after ordering, but everything is cooked to order. Waiters were lovely and good selection of dishes.

Very bad experience, extremely rude staff.

They added drinks on which we didn’t have, then when it came to paying, they removed the drinks but the owner basically added money back on (took the bill amount, divided it by 3, then punched a different figure into the card machine). I noticed this and called it “cheeky”, then the guy absolutely lost his head, becoming angry and aggressive with me, saying “how dare I call him cheeky” and telling me to ignore the previous payments and just tap my card. I literally pointed at the calculator vs the payments he’d already taken from my friends, and that they were different. It was only 50p more per person, I didn’t care and thought it was funny really, hence “cheeky”, and only wanted to make the point that it wasn’t transparent. Hr created a ridiculous scene with his aggression, refusing eye contact and slamming down the calculator and shoving the card machine in front of me then tapping it and ordering me to “PAY HERE!” It was really weird, I refused until he spoke respectfully and he then said “I need to cover my card costs”. Riiiiight, well again you should be transparent about that, no need to get angry. I even asked one of the other workers “why’s he so annoyed, also look at what he charged versus 1/3 of the bill, it’s more”, to which the guy shrugged and said “he’s the boss, what am I supposed to say?” The food was acceptable, the owner’s attitude was disgraceful. I feel bad for the others who have to work there under his aggression. And CHECK YOUR BILL and WHAT THEY ENTER INTO THE CARD MACHINE. No doubt he’ll respond to this denying everything cos he’s a poor angry man who doesn’t like to be called out.

Food really nice , service from a staff member absolutely disgusting , not made to feel welcome and extremely rude , will not recommend and will not be returning

My first visit to this restaurant last night (01/12/23) with 5 friends. We didn’t have a booking but were quickly sorted out with a table despite them being booked up. Our server, Mohammed, was excellent, very personable and attentive. I asked what he would eat on the menu and several of us followed his lead. We were not disappointed. Chicken chaat starter was exceptional, nicely presented with great flavour and a decent sized portion. It was the best I’d had. Main course was lamb tikka jalfrezi, I had mine “Apna” style and it was exactly as ordered. Great flavour, vegetables with a nice bite to them, it was excellent. All 6 meals were large portions, so much so a couple of us had some packed up to take home. The quality all round was excellent. I’m not a local to the area but would definitely make the effort to drive there with the mrs. Highly recommended.

Back to its best. I’ve been going here for 15 years and it did drop off a little at one point a few years back so stopped going. Called in the other week and it was amazing. Recommend Buna with half madras you can’t go wrong. Well done guys.

Service was great, water constantly refilled! Peshwari naans and pickle tray lived up to expectations. Would not recommend the murgh chargha, it tasted like chicken in carrot soup.

Been having takeaways from Zahid the past year or so, went for a sit down meal in the restaurant last night the food was fantastic and the staff/service is great! Highly recommended.

Both chicken biryani and chicken karahi were bland in taste . These dishes are supposed to be a but spicy and hot in flavor instead theirs felt a little sweet in taste. Server did not bother to ask about the spice level.

Placed order for delivery told me driver is off from 2130pm but they open until 2300? But still can take order online and money out bank and had to ring them before they actually tell me can’t deliver it 🤦🏻‍♀️ never again.

Do not dine in this restaurant unless you want to feel like you are eating on a conveyer belt and rudely rushed out the door. Booked for a special occasion, clearly forgotten our booking and then asked to leave as they needed the table back. We hadn’t even been sat for 1hour 30 minutes. Absolutely ludicrous. Booked for a special occasion and was ruined by the lack of care towards us as customers. Food was beautiful - service was atrocious!!

This place is the best we just went by chance one night for somewhere different to go and we loved it so much we return all the time now! Very welcoming nothing at all is too much trouble the staff are so friendly and the food is fabulous so fresh and tasty 5 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟 to all. Thank you

Never dined in. Food is great, always hot, with plenty of meat in the curry. Delivery usually fast Don't use any other takeaway for curry.

Went for a meal on Saturday was very good so ordered a takeaway online reg because first time everything went through 35 pound dates phone number everything I rang 1hour later said they had no address and phone number but it was on there website when it came 1hour 30 mins later cold as part of order missing rang and asked for manager he answered I said you website not working right he said it was he was not helpful at all said they they had no address I've print it of to take in very very disappointed as the food is good but staff or one of them is not

Quite large group of us went their for a meal. The food we ordered was OK, but they gave one of us in our group something that they didn't order. When my friend said that he'd been given the wrong meal they just ignored him, and didn't try to rectify their mistake. When it came to paying the bill we were all very polite but said we'd pay for everything except the meal they'd given my friend as he didn't order it. The owner was really rude and made no attempt to apologise or rectify the problem. He then told us we weren't welcome there anymore (because they made a mistake and were rude to us?!) After looking at other reviews I've seen other people complain about the owner there. Avoid this place like the plague.

What a shame it was last night going here This was our ‘go to’ Indian on a New Year’s Eve also throughout the year Last night (New Years Eve 2022) was a disaster Arrived at 7:30 finally got the main meal around 9pm They were not that busy with everyone complaining about the wait for food It seemed delivery’s were more important The one redeeming factor was a waiter who did complain that food was not being brought out Tried to complain to the manager who wasn’t really interested and offered a £10 discount The food seems to have gone down hill Sorry to say but last night is the last time we go there The one star is for the waiter who was really good

Bang on great king prawn vindaloo

I have been using Zahid’s for nearly 20 years and never had anything that wasn’t exceptional in all that time, that’s why it was our go to Indian. It’s probably nearly a year since our last visit, but I have to say that this will probably be our last time. I think it must have new owners as I didn’t recognise anyone in the place. The staff who used to run it were great, especially Shipon who worked the bar and reception area downstairs. He was one of the nicest people you could ever meet and always made you feel welcome. I originally booked for 6:15 for a party of 7 people, but received a phone call a few days before asking if could move our booking to 6pm as they had a large party in at 8pm and needed the table back. No problem I thought, 2 hours is more than enough time. As soon as we arrived we were immediately shepherded upstairs, no time for a drink while looking at the menu like the old days. They had only set the table for 6 people and when we queried it, it genuinely seemed like an inconvenience for them to move a table and make it a 7, despite us being the only people in the whole upstairs section. We ordered and the food came out quickly. The popadoms were disappointing, they tasted like they had been sat for a long time and were slightly soft. They also had a taste like the oil they were fried in was a bit old. I honestly couldn’t fault the rest of the food we ordered as the mains, it was fairly good, just not as good as it was previously. It certainly wouldn’t make me travel 5 miles to go here like I did before. The worst thing of all though was how rushed everything was, it was certainly not a relaxing experience. From arriving to leaving we were 50 minutes in total. The icing on the cake was when the waiter came to us at the end and apologised for the rush as they had another party coming in. We were the only people in the upstairs section! On the phone I was told we had 2 hours and were rushed out in less than an hour, so I assume they had squeezed another booking in at 7pm as well. It feels wrong criticising a restaurant with current climate being as it is, but this was a very poor experience overall, made worse by knowing how this place used to be. Really, really disappointing.

Owner VERY rude! Other staff members great but when we end up speaking to the owner on the phone he’s very abrupt. customer service used to be great but has definitely gone down hill. We order all the time to a new build estate and normally not an issue delivering from you guys but the two times the owner has answered the phone he refuses our order because our postcode doesn’t yet show up on google maps (but the house number and street name does) We are only up the road in Walton. Clearly our money is not needed and they must be doing very well to turn down a big order for the sake of talking our full address. Said I would not order from here again the first time they did this but gave them benefit of the doubt with it really being a new street but we’ve been here over a year now and had many delivery’s from them so will not be returning.

Customer service at a complete zero, ordered a collection with no price quoted. Arrived to pick up and asked if I wanted to round it up to £15 to which I said no and was informed the minimum spend was £15 on card. Before arriving at the establishment I wasn't informed of this and mentioned this fact. The response I received was aggressive and rude, I tried to explain my issue wasn't with the minimum spend total but that I wasn't informed before I arrived. I then received more rude and aggressive responses and was called a liar before being told my business wasn't welcome again. That's fine I refuse to be spoken to like that by anyone which is a shame but as a business owner I wouldn't dream of treating my customers in such a way.

Food was served hot (a plus point) but was lacking in flavour and substance. Watery curry, and substantially under-spiced. Disappointing. Ok if you’re nearby and want a curry, but as a destination for a good Indian meal, there’s little here to recommend.

Fantastic takeaway always sceptica labout trying new restaurant /takeaways but from now on this is our new one. Delivery time is spot on and never late great spices and heat in every meal

Has been our first choice indian restaurant in Chesterfield for years but after tonight's delivery we will venture elsewhere. Lamb was extremely chewy, tikka masala curry was very watery and the keema naan breads were small and just had a little mince scattered ontop of them, very disappointing!!!

Not used them for a while and our food tonight was awful. Everything tasted old and just not right. Lamb rogan gosht with huge chunks of butternut squash 😒Tasteless sauce 😒 king prawn Bhuna with really overdone ropey tasting prawns. Even the pilau rice was completely bland. Lots gone in the bin …..😩😩

Take aways delivered and yummy gorgeous Indian Food

Always rated this as the best Indian restaurant in Chesterfield and wanted them to deliver for years, now they do I’m a little concerned. My latest order was probably the worst meal I’ve ever ordered from an Indian. I get things are not always up to standard but from so nice to so bad, somethings clearly changed.

Not even worth 1 star! It’s the first time we’ve tried this Indian, just fancied the classic chicken tikka masala, mushroom rice, peshwari nan and chips. How hard can it be?! 1. Collected our order, got home to find we had not been given chips or a peshwari nan - to which they were apologetic about. 2. Took one look at the masala and instantly knew it was going to be bad as I’ve never had a masala that is pale orange/yellow - the type of colour you may associate with a Korma! Let’s just say the taste was peculiar to say the least. It had a paste and nutty like substance, extremely creamy, spicy (which I do not associate with a masala) and the chicken could break a window... ping food! Very disappointing and will not be ordering from them again!

Fantastic meal. I have been here before, but only on evenings when I have been drinking, and it's not possible to fully appreciate how attentive the waiting staff are, how they always ensure that a member of staff is in the area, just waiting for that nod that indicates someone wants a drink, or needs to pay etc. More importantly, you don't appreciate the flavours when you have had 5 pints, and are debating if you're off clubbing! No need for me to detail what I had, as all in our party had different things, and we were all extremely impressed with the meals. The naan breads warrant particular attention, they were so light, and tasty. I will certainly be going again, and look forward to the doggy bag I brought home tomorrow!

Wow!!! Just wow..! It was the first Indian restaurant I ever went to (around 16yrs ago - yikes!) and it is still my absolute favorite by a country mile! Over the years I have got to know the team well and can honestly say it is always my first choice! The passion they have for their food is greatly appreciated by my taste buds every visit!! I love Zahids, they cater for everyone. I have a allergy to garlic, and they make me my favourite curry without garlic in, which makes me so pleased. Staff are fabulous, the menu marvelous and it's great value for money. I am a regular visitor and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

We have eaten at Zahid many times over the years we have been in Chesterfield However after last night we will not be returning I had booked a table for 4 people - this hadn't been written down. We were left waiting down stairs and had to ask several times if our table was ready When we did eventually sit down the service was very slow- even though it was by no means full My King Prawn Sag tasted of sugar. Quite unpleasant- i didnt eat it. I mentioned it to the waiter who said they hadn't put sugar it in. Though he did apologise - however it wasn't taken off the final bill Lots to other Indian restaurants in the area which we will now be going to
