Great staff, good beer selection and the live music (a band called alchemy) were top notch

Good local pub with live music on Friday night, good drinks selection and had a good vibe to it, shame the kitchen is closed and food is not available at the moment

The Rutland is my regular bar in Chesterfield now for multiple reasons. But it all narrows down to the staff. Each and every one of them is welcoming with a smile, non judgmental and brilliant hosts!! They are well reliable when it comes to personal safety, as I woman I feel if ever anything is making me uncomfortable or sad... I have absolutely no problem confronting the staff for safety. Their monthly metal nights have also really restored what Chesterfield has been missing for a lot of folk, since the Green Rooms and Sevens sadly closed down. The Rutland has become a 'Go To' bar in the town center... All round great vibes, great beer, great accomodation and many good laughs!! :)

I visited here for a punk gig. I emailed the pub in advance to ask if it would be possible to have somewhere to sit because of my shonky legs. The lady who replied, Dawn, could not have been more helpful! She was amazing in organising seats and a table. The gig was great. The pub was very lively with a banging atmosphere.

Toilets(men) could use a scrub and revamp

Got to be 1 of the best boozers in chesterfield. Plenty of real ales and ciders to choose from. Plenty of seating and a pool table. The atmosphere is brilliant aswell very friendly, warm and welcoming landlords. Pets are also allowed in aswell.

Fantastic pub,great atmosphere,great staff. This pub retains a certain character of an olde worlde tavern with a great relaxing atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks 🍻 worth a visit 😁

I've tried all the pubs in Chesterfield, and this is by far the best. It's the friendliest, most hospitable, and most pleasant pub in town..Keep up the great work 🙂

Warm and friendly atmosphere, the staff were great, the beer went down a treat. We had an enjoyable evening. I'll definitely go back and try some different beers.

I am sorry for writing this review as this pub has been around for years and normally our go too place for a quiet drink & catch up with friends. BUT this afternoon I would have given them 0 stars😡 (normally it would be *****) This afternoon it was full of kids screaming & shouting whilst their parents were drinking on other tables (away from their children) We came out with friends while our kids were being look after responsibly (🥰)). Although the staff were brilliant and the beer/wine as of good quality as normal, we might as well have all stopped at home and looked after our children (instead of paying for a bay sitter and saved some monies😭) I know we were in the pub for 16:00 on a Saturday but I don’t think a tradition Camera pub is the environment that young children should be in! After todays experience I think if you want to go out and enjoy a quite drink and a chat with friends you should go somewhere else (Although saying that Chesterfield is becoming as the Specials sang “A Ghost Town”) Again I am sorry for writing this review as the staff as always work so hard to normally make this a fantastic place for people who enjoy a good quality pint and usually has an excellent atmosphere 🫣😭😭

No food at time of writing, but I hear it's coming soon. Fantastic pub again now the current management team are there, good quiz on a Thursday, cracking ales and ciders. Don't pass up on a pint or 2 in here.

A real gem and now the best pub in Chesterfield town centre. It's nice and traditional inside and they've always got some decent ales on. There's always been a good vibe whenever I've been in (no thanks to me lol) and I've never seen any trouble. Highly recommended.

Popped in one lunchtime for a swift pint while waiting for a data transfer going on in the Vodafone shop... An excellent real ale pub just outside of the shopping centre of Chesterfield, about a five minute walk from the Market Place. Nice selection of real ales, well kept. Friendly staff. And a cosy little log-burner complementing the central heating.

Loved it as always!! Rock night so how can't we not love it !!

Wandered in here while waiting for a bus. I wasn't sure it was open at first as it was quite gloomy inside however the friendly and cheerful landlord (I think) reassured me it was and beckoned me inside. The apparent "gloominess" was in fact part of the Halloween decorations. Had a pleasant pint of Neck Oil and sat down to enjoy the ambiance and a refreshing classic rock oriented playlist. There's not many pubs you walk in and can hear The Scorpions etc. playing. Would have happily stayed longer had I not had a bus to catch but I'll definitely pop in next time.

Excellent place to go. Quiz nights on a Thursday are also highly recommended..... Great fun! This is now a wonderful, pleasant and homely place to go. Top Marks!!

Pub was very busy. But the service was very quick and friendly. Price of drinks was reasonably.

Traditional pub with a wide range of lager real ale and cider varieties. Dawn and Martin have lots of innovative ideas for the pub and plan to introduce food after a kitchen refurbishment. Also it's a dog friendly pub.

I am not from round the area but come to Chesterfield often, I have been around Chesterfield and this pub is the best pub I have found, the staff are very friendly and the beer a good price, if you're ever in Chesterfield I would definitely stop in, new manager and team are welcoming.

Recently reopened. No major changes inside but cleaned up. Limited range of beers but the landlord is planning to improve and extend on this. Food coming soon as well. Worth visiting if you prefer a traditional pub and, hopefully, on the way to restoring what it used to be.

Fantastic. A good choice of beers and ciders, friendly staff at the bar. Much better than the Burlington nearby. I had a very poor experience there.

Welcoming atmosphere, New owners have created a great dog friendly place. That occasionally has live bands in. Reasonable pricing for drinks. Would recommend a try.

I used to love this pub when I lived in Chesterfield before leaving 4vyears ago. Went back on Friday, really looking forward to the warm cozy buzz that I remembered only to find that the character had somehow disappeared. Service was fine and there was a log fire too but it was almost empty when we went in at 9 oclock, and very few others came in. A victim of the pandemic perhaps?

Love this pub but unfortunately don't get to visit it as much as I would like, good food and drinks for a reasonable price.

Great rustic feel pub, lovely people and their dogs are adorable!! We were there twice on boxing day with family and the atmosphere is just so nice. They also have wood burning fireplace too, just an all round nice pub.. Enjoyed a few singing along moments to the music and there was a dj later on when we returned in the evening. Definitely worth more than one visit 👌👏🥃

Highly regarded by CAMRA, I found this real ale pub in the heart of Chesterfield to be disappointing, at least upon my visit in mid-October. None of the real ales was available, the only cask beer was "London Pride" - and that one turned out to be oxidized (It was taken off after I complained about it). Other than that it's certainly a nice traditional pub: spacious, with pleasingly comfortable décor, and friendly staff. Shame about the beer though.

We had a carvery meal at the Rutland yesterday which we thoroughly enjoyed. It was lovely to go to this pub again and see it still has the character that has attracted customers for many years. The new Landlord is helpful and friendly, and the beer was good! We wish the new landlord and staff all the best for the future and hope that he gets lots of support from customers past and present.

Sadly, this fine pub is now closed and up for sale (Oct 2019) - Not any longer, it's now open and I have yet to try.

Friendly welcoming from the staff as soon as we arrived. Plenty of york brown. Cheese & bacon burger was yummy and lovely home cooked c.h.i.p.s. Syrup pudding was moorish😋😋 A very enjoyable experience. Mtfbwy always. We came again in June. Lovely welcome again... Food and drink spot on again. Teddy bear update looks like it closed. Mtfbwy.

Friendly staff ,. Quite a long wait for food but well worth the wait it was gorgeous . Visited twice in June. Had chicken burger 🍔 on the Saturday it was gorgeous & the hand cut chips 🍟 are just as nice 😋. Had Sunday lunch day after & OMG that was one of the nicest I've had. Tender meat & lots of it. Lovely large roast spuds 😋 in fact everything was gorgeous. Can't wait to go in next time we go to Chesterfield
