Zafran in Croydon

Disappointing - found a hair in my food and the naan bread was cold … I only live round the corner, also had to wait an hour for it to be delievered.

Ordered food , the naan looks they were cooked earlier and than just warmed again for later and size were inconsistent one large one small but charged same price for them and they were burnt at the back. Roti was also not good.ordered rasmalai but they said they dont have any and sent me kheer which tasted like it came out of a can. Not recommeneded

Went here for a meal with the family. There was only one other big table in there and they were happily eating ( not requiring attention) but we were neglected and had to actually call someone over to take our order. Ordered a vindaloo but it tasted like a normal chicken curry with no spice to it. Rice portion was very small. I didn't feel that there was any love put into the dishes. They could easily have been something I got from the supermarket. We won't be returning again unfortunately, which is a shame as there are not many Indian restaurants on Addiscombe.

I had the Farcha Lamb curry from specialty menu. Meal was spicyand tasty, very enjoyble and garlic naan came out fresh, hot and tasty. Papadams and dips were freshly cooked and preoared. Veg rice was nice too, but portion of rice was quitesmsl, and did not quite match up curry in portiin size, so I was left mopping up curry with naan. That aside, excellent meal and service. Toilets could do with hot water.

Me and a friend of mine who is a curry Nutter ie eats it 4 time a week and like it Hot , ate there last night Saturday, the place is a real Dump , with paint peeling off the walls , no table cloths, No blow dryer in the gents or hand towels either cold water no hot , nibbles were standard run of the mill , main dish was really enjoyable, keens rice was ok , bread was nice and fresh , beer is well over priced , as was the main dishes at nearly a ten each dish , small chunks of mate and not a lot of it so over all it’s ok but won’t be going back again.

Wife ordered the Prawn Cocktail, the colour and texture wasn't quite right and the prawns looked and tasted water soaked. When we complained we were told this is how they've done it for the last 5 years & no one else as complained. We asked to replace it with something else & they refused. It's a pity as I've eaten here on and off for quite a few years now and in my opinion the service has deteriorated over the last 3 years. A week ago I phoned through a takeaway order only to receive a phone call 15mins after informing me that the had to be cancelled as they ran out of food.

Ordered a takeaway via their website. Delivery should have been 45 mins. Over an hour, no sign of it. Called the restaurant and the phone was repeatedly picked up and replaced. Same with the landline. Used a different number and (surprise) got through….. But they couldn’t find the order. When it finally arrived it was minus part of it, but couldn’t call them to get it re-delivered as they wouldn’t answer the phone. 25 dropped calls later I gave up - shame, really, as I won’t use them again and I’ve been a customer here since they opened. Nothing wrong with the food, just appalling customer service and no facility to complain as they won’t pick up the phone.

Okay, let me start by saying, this is the Indian restaurant takeaway of the future. There is no need to go to any other Croydon takeaway restaurant or any in surrounding areas. Zaffron is the best. End of story. You know when you eat food until you're full but you want to carry on eating because the flavours are just popping off in your mouth? Well, that's Zaffron and whoever they've got in the kitchen down there calling themselves chefs, they're not chefs, they're superstars...full stop. Next I'd like to say, I woke up in the morning and there were some leftovers and I wanted to eat them for my breakfast. But I thought, you know what, let me just exercise a little bit of self-discipline and have an early lunch. So I drank a cup of tea. Ordered Prawn Poori, Angara, Farcha, Pilau Rice and Plain Poppadoms

Nice friendly restaurant with good food and service

This is our favourite place to eat out. Amazing food and always very friendly. We also get take away from here and the delivery is perfect. I recommend the Lal Reshmi as a main and the Saag bhaji as a side. We will be returning!

If you like Indian food, I guess this is a great place. If you are intolerant of things like onions or coconut and certain spices, there was no choice. But with a large group who want to go there, you just accept you are up all night. The rice was good

Ordered delivery from here. All the dishes were extremely sweet for some reason and little no spice (tikka masala and butter chicken) the first and last time trying this restaurant. A big disappointment as I was very hungry and looking forward to eating some good Indian food

This is my hands down favourite Indian restaurant. All Restaurants I go to I always compare against Zafron. Since moving to Australia I always make a point of coming to Zafron with friends. Very attentive and friendly staff. The ownership story is awesome too, with waiters becoming owners and so on. Best chicken jalfrezi out there. Well done guys, when are you setting up in Melbourne? Food was good, waited almost an hour before we got our main meal, also we were sat next to other people, will go back again when it is more organised, prefer a take away.

New curry house for me close to my clinic, had buffet. Reasonable food, no flexibility too. Couldn’t even swap a coffee for poppadum- / limited choice but it’s very reasonable price.

The last visit to this restaurant was a harsh experience. The food is not good at all. Only the rice tastes. The price is very expensive compared to the quality of the food. My best advice to the owner of the restaurant is to close this restaurant I do not recommend this restaurant at all.

I'm commenting solely on the takeaway service. The food came on time but wow! For over £50 the portions were ridiculously tiny. The meat containers were half full, the lamb tikka was a weird texture so I'm wondering if it was lamb. The lamb madras was watery and mostly sauce. The. Sag aloo was OK, enough for 4 people but the overall meal was well below standard. There are better Indian takeaways to choose from in Addiscombe. I chose a 'restaurant' takeaway as its New Year's Eve but I won't be ordering from the Zafran again.

I found a hair in my takeaway. I rang the restaurant and told them. I got told I would receive a refund, this never happened. I have rang back twice and still no compensation. Terrible customer service. I am now going to take this further.

Food never arrived, was waiting for nearly 2hrs. Terrible customer service from this place. Don't bother to order. Just order somewhere else. Never again!

Its nice food i will recommend any one to go and also please what ever u do people if u eat inside and after u finish and u get the bill please don't give the tips in the bill or don't leave it in the table because the waiter doesn't get it if u give it to there hand or put it in there pocket I am beging u guyz and if u could do that u watch ther face how happy they get thats a request to every one thank u

Zafron is a fantastic little restaurant and is by far the best in Croydon. The staff are very professional and polite. The food is fantastic and me and my friends have been many times. Their high standards are always maintained. I would recommend Zafron to all if you want a special evening out with Family and Friends.

Unfortunately last time we order from here, few times recently, mistakes made, food missing from order, but the last straw is waiting 2 hours for delivery, im patient but not that patient. Customer lost. Its a shame because the food is lovely

This is the best Indian restaurant in the area. The food is fantastic, and a great range of tastes and flavours. I go there monthly and am never disappointed. Staff are friendly and efficient even when they are busy. I was there last night with friends and we all had a great time. Restaurant was full and buzzing, lovely atmosphere. I love the hotter curries vindaloos and madras which are absolutely sumptuous.

My wife and I have been here a couple of times and have not been disappointed. Great service and food and some interesting dishes from the sub continent. I think I spotted a Persian dish and one having venison. Two reasons to revisit methinks.

Lovely food, good service and very reasonably priced

Food good but staff seem flustered, a power cut didn't help but delivero taking preference over restaurant customers, near riot from one table who waited over an hour for 1st course. I think it's new owners, they need to step up to the mark.

Had not been herevforv18 months so thought we would go tonight Saturday 18th september, ordered drinks mine a cobra my wifes a white wine lemonade spritzer which was as flat as could be, when querying it with staff we were promptly told they use tinned lemonade which goes flat when mixed with the wine, rubbish my wife has this whenever we go out, never had a flat one untill tonight, ordered starters & main, waited for 20 minutes for starters but nice when it arrived, waited a further 45 minutes for mains but nice when it arrived all be it we had almost finished the mains before the naans came out, we sent them straight back and told them to deduct them from the bill. Whilst we waited for the mains I ordered a Doombar and was served a Cobra. Absolutely diabolical service, this place has gone down completely, would never go there again.

Friendly staff and atmosphere. Made to feel welcome from the minute we walked in. The food is excellent and cost is reasonable. A must place to visit if you want a relaxing enjoyable meal.

Best curry for miles, worth the journey (from Glasgow! ) to have a chicken tikka dhansak!

Superb food. The lamb farcar was amazing as was the sag panir. Prawn purée starter spot on, spicing just right. House red wine very quaffable. Go there as service welcoming and on point.

We went as a large family group but had the worst service ever. All women and black !!! Male staff really rude and we spent a lot of money for the worst service ever! Never go there again

Amazing little place tucked away off lower Addiscombe Road Dexided4have birthday celebration here and was so lovely. Polite staff, food hot to the table. Really helpful staff went above and beyond to ensure eveing was great. Food was amazing as well, so very tasty. Could eat all again today. Been here few times and never disappointed. So first of all, This place was quite small. With Tiny Tables. No customer service at all. Only one waiter available which wasn't there half of the time. After 15 mins of wait finally someone came to take order. And long wait for food, which wasn't worth at all. Overall Terrible Experience.

Accidentally ordered a dish without the sauce and right as they just started cleaning up the kitchen ready to closed, they managed to make up a sauce for me in quick time and was still very tasty, whole meal was nice.

Fabulous food! So happy to have found them. Will defo go in once you know lockdowns over. Slight mishap with an item being left behind but VERY quickly redelivered to me and the most sincere apology. Honestly I’ve lived in Croydon 10 years and this has to be up there with possibly the best curry I’ve had! I recommend the sag aloo and the masala!

Order 55 pound worth of Indian food and 1main meal was missing ,rung the company the attitude was rude and they was like what do you want us to do, all they could do was send us the dish but turned up an hour later when they said 25 minutes there food was very bland and tasteless so all in all poor customer service and food heads up !!!

Have been going to Zafran for many many years , last night we ordered at 6 pm 3 hours later still haven’t received, kept calling no answer . In the end had to go to the restaurant to get my money back , kids were very hungry . No apology from Zafran at all disgusted by the way they have treated very loyal customers. I will never be going back , staff are very rude customer care is appalling. This used to be a lovely family restaurant what’s happened.

Have dined at this fantastic restaurant since the day it opened over twenty years ago we have never had a bad experience. The food is always cooked to perfection, tastes superb and has that special Zafran touch. The service is second to none and the owner always makes time to ask you about your meal. Since the Covid outbreak we haven’t dined out, but have had their great Indian food delivered to us many times and the quality is constantly as good as dining in the restaurant and delivery has always been on time or early. Would highly recommend Zafran.

It was an attempt for an Indian curry takeaway but zafran isn't an authenticated Indian restaurantm par say, it's a Bangladeshi restaurant although sells/cooks food of Indian cuisine. The lamb karahi, lamb curry, takra daal, matar paneer wasn't the same if you buy from say mirch masala, tooting, which is in my opinion makes those in Indian authentication style. So, the food lacks Indian quality. Quantity wasn't great either, not many lamb or paneer pieces were there but tasted good. Tarka daal was just some daal.with fried garlic. So, it saved me a trip tooting and gave me some Indian flavour but not the real one. Hope this helps you if you fancy an Indian dining in or takeaway

After spending £53.00 you would expect your food to come hot or at lest warm but no food cold very very disappointed what a let down first and last time ordering.

STAY AWAY!! Visited Sunday, staff were not distancing and worse, REFUSING to wear a face covering!! They explained that they have boxes of masks, but when asked why they are not on their faces, there was just a blank stare with a fake smile, the head waiter simply saying "that's OK, that OK". It is not OK and we left. Despite having been coming here on and off for years, we will not be coming back. Their attitude perfectly illustrates why "we are where we are" with covid. Shame on you Zafran

Great local restaurant with lovely staff.

Today we found a very excellent Indian restaurant. The staff are attentive and very polite. The food is superb and I had a main course of tandoori chicken which I can honestly say was the best dish I have ever had in an Indian restaurant. So I check out the toilets just before leaving and they were absolutely amazingly clean in fact spotless. We must all support these restaurant at this time!. Use them or lose them. The entire meal for 2 including 4 large cobra beers was under £48 !. Amazing value for such a superb eatery!. I will be back every week 100%...

First of all, I want to start off by saying how great the service is! The people are incredibly friendly and easy to talk to if needed anything. Food is also never late which is honestly the best thing. Not to mention how great the food is! The food ticks off all the boxes and Is spectacular (honestly the best Indian food I’ve tried in my life). Both eating in and ordering online gave me the same experience. Will definitely be looking forward to ordering again. So happy!

I've sampled most currys around Croydon now even though I live in Kent, I have to say this is the benchmark, it turned up at my GF's flat 20 mins early, I normally go for a madras as I did on this occasion, perfect balance, really nice creamy flavour in the sauce, no oily residue, great plate of food! Definitely my 'go to 'here from now on, couldn't fault it.

Having used restaurant for 20 years - been always recommending this place to all my friends.last night i have ordered take away ( spent over £50 ) it turned up to be one of the worst Indian food that I have eaten - or more like I didn’t eat - what a disappointment- what had happened to this place ( such a shame ) avoid at all costs

This restaurant is the best North Indian Restaurant South of the Thames. Based in Addiscombe , Croydon and a 10 minute walk from the tram in Addiscombe. The food is wonderful.

I ordered 7 dishes to be delivered to my house, only 6 arrived. I called the restaurant. The person answered the phone was very rude and unfriendly. Just kept telling me the restaurant was busy and told me any problem go to the restaurant, then put the phone down. I continued to call. He asked me to call the police or sue him and said I was causing the problem. On numerous times, he cut the line or put the handset on one side and ignored me. At the end, he said he would deliver the missing dish but I doubt. I definitely NOT recommend this restaurant I will never use it again.

were there for my friend's birthday. hey paid a lot of money for a very average food. They only served us curries (full of sugar it was like a dessert). I love Indian food and it was not Indian. Very poor quality. way to expensive for what it was

We have eaten here many times and always enjoyed it. This time we tried a "take away" and were not disapointed, exactly the same standard only on your own dining table. Don't forget a couple of Cobras to wash it all down with.

What I like about this restaurant is that the flavors are different from most standard Indian restaurants. The food is more from the north of India. The food is very fresh,cooked to order so in house service tends to be a little bit slow due to the busy trade they do for take out. Restaurant staff are very accommodating as we ordered more food during their “busy” time and they delivered promptly. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Go early for better service.

Family lunch with 4 adults and 1 child. Great value for money. Lovely welcoming staff. Start with poppadoms then potato cakes and onion bhaji all fresh and tasty. Buffet choice is good and nothing too hot and spicy. The 4 year old in group tried most of it and loved it. Basket of fresh naan bread brought to table. Service really good. Will come again.

Had a fairly average curry deal here and had lots of food left over....I asked for the food to be packed only to be told I had to pay £1 per container used!! I checked with the manager and he was so rude! Never coming back here again.

Took my hubs here for his bday. He got the Tandoori mixed grill and vegetable rice - which came sizzling. I got the set menu (prawn poori, madras, onion bhaji and pilaf rice). We were seated quickly, service was well timed, waiters were friendly and polite. The food was hot fresh and very flavourful. A little gem of a restaurant, highly recommended!

Just returned home after another visit to Zafran. Been a regular here for many years also takeaways and never had a bad curry. Excellent friendly service from waiters and "Shar" the governor is always happy to have a chat. The most important thing, the food is always above excellent. We have visited all the restaurants in and around the area and nothing comes close to the Zafran. Definitely recommend you will not be disappointed.

Zafran is a lovely little restaurant. The servers were lovely people. On the particular day I went, it was a buffet and though the food was in massive metal pots that were had to use, the food was amazing with a great selection. I urge you to go.
