Yummy in Colchester

Not nowhere like as good as old yunlmmys. My advice to them would be sack the chef get a different one ...................

Had a takeaway for 6 people and we all agreed it was the worst we've had in many years.... not sure why I gave it the benefit of the doubt but lesson learnt

Food was lovely. Spot on. Duck was crispy. The family working are lovely. Great atmosphere. I went on a Saturday so of course it was busy. What can you expect? 😃 39 ( Singapore rice noodles) are great and the best ever. I will come back yummy!

We have been having take aways from Yummy for years - they are constantly high standard and reliable. As a vegetarian we particularly love their range of tofu dishes. They remember us too which is great customer service. we’ve tried other places and they are never as good as this so always come back here. Thank you so much.

Ow wow what do you start!!! Food delivery an hour an a half, delivered cold, wrong order sent, an when asking for a refund or redelivery of my order they became abusive an wouldn't sort the issue for us leaving us having to salvage an cook further food due to them being unhelpful an very abusive to me. Never again it wasn't even fit for my dog. Shocked is an understatement AVOID THIS PLACE save your money 😡

Waited nearly two hours for the delivery of an absolutely awful meal. It was all cold, pretty much inedible and more of it went into the food recycling bin than went into us. Will never use Yummy again.

2nd delivery from Yummy and seriously as good as the first ! Portion sizes are HUGE and really reasonably priced. We had Set Menu A which was massive and left a strapping lad struggling ( nice lunch tomorrow then with any leftovers) and a veg curry with egg fried rice. The veg option was so flavoursome, nice bit of heat and fantastic array of vegetables. If you are veggie this really is the best in Colchester. Wait time was around an hour but on a Friday night what do you expect !?! Delivery guy was really polite and the food piping hot so well worth the wait ! Top marks, Yummy by name and how accurate. Thank you guys just need that fortune in my cookie to come true !!

Sorry Yummy but your food wasn’t very nice! Egg fried rice was over cooked and mushy Special chow mien was bland Chicken balls were chewy and the batter was soggy and cold Crispy chilli beef was far too crunchy!! Sweet & sour sauce was spicy?? Very disappointed

We ordered takeaway delivery Sunday 8th at 1800.. food arrived 1 and half hours later, we only live a max 15 min away on a Sunday evening, food was hot and ok not the best we have had. I have had gut ache all day and woke up at 2am to use toilet you can imagine the rest, the takeaway menu is now in the bin and will not use again. The previous review is correct about the duck. We ordered crispy duck in soya sauce and it was very fatty not crispy at all.

The worst food ever!!! Duck was just vile. So dry. Was probably reheated million times. Even crackers were not eatable. Starters cold, absolutely awful. We rang them they were rude and told us to take them to court??? That's how open they are to feedback. All of the food we ordered landed in a trash as seriously even rice was awful. Such a disappointment and waste of money.

Made an order for collection this evening.. Was unhappy when I got all the way home to soggy pale chicken balls.. and a very overcooked, dry salt and chilli king prawns that were not edible and seasoning more like curry powder! I was very disappointed. The chicken chow main was not that ‘yummy’ so unfortunately I won’t order again! What a waste of money. I did call to let them know.. obviously I wasn’t driving back, but they said they would let the kitchen no. Thanks !

Ordered birthday takeaway 2 hours later still not arrived phoned to ask where it was phone put down no explanation or anything very rude not reliable

I normally order with Yummy’s maybe twice a month max. I have not had a negative experience with them up until today. The lady on the phone took my order and repeated it back to me to which I confirmed. However, when my food finally decided to show up (after an hour of placing the order) instead of spring rolls they gave me a king prawn omelette and instead of salt and pepper chicken wings they gave me salt and pepper boneless chicken. When I called them to inform them the lady who took my order insisted that I had ordered it and I repeatedly stated that I did not because I paid more than I usually do and hung up because I was not going to listen to someone shout down the phone who was clearly in the wrong. After ringing back to get a refund and going back and forth the the lady a man took the phone. He also went back and forth with me and told me that 1) I should be grateful that I could order food as cheap as theirs 2) he knows that “I cannot afford it” hence why he put the price down (how he came to that speculation I do not know) 3) “I am Chinese and you are black so we are friends” implying that I should forget about this experience as POC should stick together, to which i replied “my ethnicity has nothing to do with my complaint, i am the customer and you are the service provider” 4) he buys the chicken for £80 which is very expensive for him and is almost putting him out of business. In the end he said the only way I would get a refund is if I “brought the food back to the shop” I told him that i would not do so as getting there would be more costly than the food they got wrong. TAKEAWAY FROM THIS - When faced with good customer service with slightly high prices or cheap, salty, soggy sorry pieces of boneless chicken wings, CHOOSE GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE!

This has become my favourite Chinese takeaway in Colchester. Over the past year, I have worked my way pretty much round the menu and I can safely say this shop is the best one round here in terms of quality, service and beautifully cooked food. My favourite is the chicken in black bean sauce but my son-in-law says the duck is to die for...so choice of dish is just down to preference really. We have always found the staff to be helpful as we have asked them to 'tweak' certain dishes to make them more to our taste. Portion sizes are very generous with the rice dishes especially being more than enough for two people. There is a good range of dishes on the menu which makes the choice a little tricky at times but I would say there is something for everyone including vegetarians. We sometimes have food delivered from these and we have always had it within the hour (except for one Saturday night when they said it would be one and a half hours due to demand). Not much more to say really, good food, good service.

My post box clearly says "No junk mail" but I still received a flier for this company despite the fact that I do not want their junk, and have never consented to receive their junk. This breach carries a heavy fine for businesses and if it happens again I will report them. We have good reasons for not wanting junk mail and will not put up with this.

Having waited over an hour and a half for this takeaway, we was disappointed to find the entire meal to be greasy, fatty, stodgy, and completely tasteless....never again.

i had read the reviews when i tried yummys. to be fair ive had it two weeks on the trot . i found the food to be tasty and hot. we didnt have delivery but went to collect as people seemed to be slating the delivery service. the ribs are really good not the scraps of bones which has become the norm. i liked the curry alot as it is different. i get fed up with chinese where it all tastes the same and i found yummys really nice. only slight thing was i like noodles crispier than in king prawn chop suey. but didnt spoil the taste.

We ordered the mixed entree and it was a very varied and generous portion with enough for two hungry travellers. The duck fried rice was also large. Basic small town Chinese food but little extra touches and friendly staff made it a welcome meal.

When someone has this on their front door it means they don’t want to receive junk mail from your restaurant!!!! Tell your mail people to read!

at 6:30 was told the food will be over and hour as it was fresh cooked, 8pm i called and they said it had just left the shop and 10mins later, there it was. the chips, cold and soggy like they were yesterdays, prawns in batter were the same, when i called them to complain that is was cold and tasted a day old, was told "thats your opinion" offered a 10% discount on next order, as if. as i had waited so long, i eat some, stomach soon regretted it.

I ordered a take away after a very long day at work. I wish I hadn't bothered.

Sólo pedimos nuestra cena, esperando por una hora (que no era problema). Al llamar a esta empresa para hacerles saber nuestra comida llegó fría me dijeron que eran un préstamo Company. Así que me colgó registramos el número y llamado a ser contestadas por otra persona que confirmó mi dirección sólo para pasar el rato. Me llamó por tercera vez para intentar conseguir una conversación que habla otra mujer (que finalmente admitió que era el restaurante en cuestión) que fue muy grosera y me dijeron que no había ninguna posibilidad de que mi comida habría sido frío y desestimó conmigo. No hay comida. No hay reembolso

que puso la £23,90 directamente a la basura porque es donde la comida fuimos! Sabía que había sido hecho hace una semana y recalentado. Incluso los crackers de gambas eran suaves, helada y tenía el sabor de muskiness rancio. Comí un curry de gambas tamaño king, que era aguados y sin sabor mi esposa tenía mein la comida de pollo que estaba claro que lo habían sentado alrededor mendigar a ser rehomed. También tuvimos cordero tortitas populares platos mongoles que venían con comprado en preempacado tortitas y una salsa que habría sido más feliz en el cárter de Austin Allegro.

Just had a take away, 'king prawn with cashew nuts and yellow bean sauce', which consisted of 6 overcooked prawns, 1 cashew nut and probably a whole sliced undercookey onion! Yuk.

We use to order from here quite a bit (once a month) but it's really gone down hill the quality is terrible things look and taste like they've been re fried and cooked so disappointed as we ordered here for four years but the last three months it's been so bad we don't want to waste our money any more

This is my favourite Chinese takeaway in our area the staff are very friendly it has the feel of a family run place not sure if it is but very quick and lovely food

Not only was the chicken raw they shouted down the phone at us when we asked them to return our money and collect the food. There manager apparently wasn't very happy with us for complaining about raw meat!! Customer service rating -10 on the scale, once they get your money they are not interested. Would never use again and now they threatened us with harassment for wanting our money back!!

We have been using Yummy Chinese for a few years now and love it. We lived 5 minutes away which was never a problem for collection or delivery but we moved the other side of Colchester and wondered how this would effect the delivery times but found its never been a problem and the food is always hot and tasty. I don't know what other reviewers mean and felt I had to leave a positive review as after all these years have never had a problem.

Group ordering of food, including crispy chilli beef, the chilli beef had ABSOLUTELY NO BEEF in it, it was juts fried batter in sauce. So rang up to complain and got the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I was told I was lying that there was fillet steak in the batter and to go to a lab and have it tested for beef content. Was never apologised to or offered a refund. Was made to feel like I was in the wrong for wanting beef in my crispy chilli beef. ABSOLUTE JOKE, would never go back there!!!!

I ordered over £40 of take away for 2 adults and a child most of which was ok, but one dish on the menu as prawn cocktail in "cocktail sauce" was prawn salad smothered in salad cream, when we called to question this we were told if we dont like it then dont order it again, they told us that it was chinese prawn cocktail and thats how the chinese do it even though we have proper prawn cocktail from other restaurants. i asked them as we were miss led by the menu could were have credit for the £3.20 dish on our next meal we order but they told us this was not possible, i then asked if they were prepared to loose our regular custom of 30-40 pound orders a couple of times a month and bad word to friend and family that use them over a £3.20 dish that was wrongly listed on their menu and they replied "yes sorry we cant help if you dont like it this is how we do prawn cocktail its chinese sause not salad cream. well i beg to differ and wont be using not so Yummy chinese again tossers.

Went in last night for food. Never tried before, special chow main was way overcooked and bland... Rice same and tasted horrible.. In fact everything was overcooked and not nice.. Never again!

Staff friendly, was busy so much be popular. For us though the spring rolls were very greasy and heavy and smelt of oil not nice and such a shame as it's normally the best bit of a Chinese for us. Curry sauce was also very strange colour and not the type we've had from others

had family staying ordered take away ok it took a while to arrive but we ordered a lot and the delivery guy was freindly. It was fairly tasty stuff good prawn balls, great chicken balls, sweet and sour pork was highly recommended, nice rice had some chips and they gave us some free drinks BUT crispy chilli beef is there biggest problem, it is an inferior product compared to other local takeaways & I really think if they chaged just this one thing there resturant would be become the busiest and best in colchester.

I wanted some Chinese food and the usual takeaway one which I order from was closed on that weekday. Yummy's menu was dropped in our house a while ago so, I thought it would be nice to try their food. We had some food delivered to our house. Although some of their dishes like their soups were OK but the crispy chilli beef was just fried batter in a sauce. My wife and I tried hard to find traces of beef but honestly there wasn't any in it. I called the restaurant and complained about it but the manager rudely replied and she said that I can send you pictures showing that there is some in it.

You just have to Google reviews on this takeaway to learn just how bad it is! We ordered from this takeaway place having received a leaflet through the door. The menu is extensive.On receiving the food, it was warm but took nearly two hours to arrive! We thought that this may be a good sign as it was clearly busy for a reason and we were only ordering enough food for two so it wasn't as if it was a large order.The quality of the food is terrible! The chilli beef was rock hard and the rice over cooked.I will not order from here again.
