Food appeared to be precooked and reheated as it was prepared and boxed up too quickly. Everything was far to greasy. Small portions which was okay as most of it went in the bin. Definitely would not go there again.

Worst food I have eaten in a long long time

Borderline inedible I’m afraid.

Loved the Chinese chef and the lady who took the order. It's an old Chinese takeaway but has the warmth you don't get in most takeaways. Great combi option which was a bargain!

Horrendous, found what can only be described as a shard of metal in the chow mein

Last night was good food and quick service. Didn’t wait long at all.

Will not be going back. Very greasy fried food - I had ordered a prawn curry and rice The flavour of cooking fat was overwhelming and I threw it away after picking out a few prawns. The place needs a facelift and does not smell too clean even though it seemingly managed 5 stars for hygiene

We stay at our beach hut on the island so wanted something quick on our way to our little getaway! The food absolutely hit the spot! Everything seemed cooked fresh. Friendly service. Excellent value for money. Good portions. Will definitely return

Another Fantastic meal, Lived in West Mersea for for a few months and the Lotus Kitchen is the best meal I have had, Will definitely make this my Cantonese take Away from now on.

This is the worst Chinese I have ever had so tasteless and bland curry was like water. Don't eat from here I also had a bit of metal from a scourer in my food. The food is disgusting and very expensive. I would never eat from here again. I do not recommend.

Lotus Kitchen Chinese takeaway on Mersea Island has to be the worst Chinese i have ever had the food we ordered seemed to be all preheated i had chicken chow main and it was very dry hardly any chicken ,chicken balls were not nice fluffy batter and were burnt curry sauce and sweet and sour sauce was very watery not thick as it should be my partner ordered spring rolls all they had in them was bean shoots she ate one and put the other in the bin the next day we both had upset tummies do be fooled by the 5 star rating on the door the place itself could do with a good clean Do yourself a favor stay away from this takeaway.

Unfortunately not very good at all. Daughter decided on a Chinese takeaway for our last night on the island. This is the one we found and was not impressed. Very small portions and tasteless. Overcooked chicken/prawn 'sate' and the smallest special fried rice Ive ever had. Glad it is not my local.

Excellent Chinese takeaway with friendly staff

This is an all round average takeaway for Chinese food was over at my friends house and this was her local she had not ordered from here before but I think we would not have bothered as it was Fairly average food

We had a great take way tonight from here the food was lovely and hot and tasted really nice will be going there again

What can I say?. Worse Chinese I've ever had...so salty,spare ribs that looked like something had died.they were boiled..presentation left a lot to be desired...never again

Stopped off to get a takeaway whilst staying on the island. Unfortunately the dishes we ordered weren't great. Sweet and sour prawn and sweet and sour chicken were both very stodgy and greasy. The prawn toast was literally toast with prawns on top covered in greasy batter. Always a shame to write a negative review but maybe it was just a bad day for the restaurant? :(

Struggling to get through to the other chinese takeaway on the island and having no web site to try I was able to place on order for virtually the same meal. Available as suggested at the pick up time the first impressions were good. A nice presented platter of starts (ribs, chicken satay, prawns etc) and a decent aromatic duck. Unfortunately three of the four mains were disappointing; lacking flavour, colour and consistency. Price was reasonable but probably wait to get through to the competitor next time.

Found this little gem purely by chance, fab food, nice staff and value for money. One of the best takeaways we have had in a long time, We will definitely be going back.

I always get take away from here there food is always amazing and cooked to perfection they are always friendly and happy to go out of there way to help

each time we come to Mersea we have a meal from there and it is always the same quality and quantity - the phoned through order is always ready on time - hot and delicious ! Affordable too - better value than our local areas take-a-ways !

I have eaten here for over 8 years and some times in the last summers gone by even twice a week and only had one or two not great things, but overall a pretty good Chinese

This is my first ever review on here and unfortunately its for all the wrong reasons. Although the service was okay with regards to my allergies, the food itself is the gift that keeps on giving!! I am trying to keep this as discreet as possible considering the situation, but unless you want a dodgy belly stay as far from this place as possible...And this is not coming from an amateur who knows nothing about food because I spend the bulk of my adult life as a chef winning multiple awards and then into training future chefs.....so for you own sake avoid this Mersea Island take-away!!!
