Food and service really good, especially nice to find such good Thai in a small town like Wantage. Atmosphere can feel a little muted but it’s a nice spot.

I called them at 17:05 to place an order for myself for delivery. I tried to explain the delivery address as some people have a job to find it for some reason (especially in the dark) but she didn't want to know and cut me off! I then called them at 18:12 to check where my order was and she told me it had left....I live 8 minutes away but due to having a drink I had to get it delivered! It arrived at 18:30 and it was slightly warm! (The only thing that was still hot was the curry sauce!) My prawns were soggy and to be honest I couldn't be bothered to phone up and send it back I say clearly made it clear they weren't interested when I phoned it 18:12! I generally have no issues with the food and especially when I collect it myself as It's nice and hot. I'm just annoyed as this is not the only occasion it's happened but slightly warm food isn't great and when you're spending over £25 you clearly want hot food! I walked down my drive and waited for the delivery driver. When she turned up she had a passenger that was holding my food just in the carrier bag. It wasn't in a insulated bag which it should have been which might have kept it hotter than it was. They seem to be quick enough to take your money, but they deliver your food in a poor way. The lady who delivered it was pleasant enough but my food wasn't delivered in the proper manner and it spoiled my meal.

Decided to try out the new "all you can eat" menu and what can I say.....WOW. Food was hot, fresh and tasty! we actually ate so many of the starter course we skipped the middle course entirely! Well, food (awful ), and…HOW LONG TO WAIT !!? .. visited on a Sunday evening - buffet “all you can eat”, which is fine, but you order as many starters as you want (6 at a time for a couple), - incidentally, there is just so much chicken or prawn you can stand. There were “ribs”, but I am not sure from what animal, they were that small. But the wait ::: between starters / mid course (crispy duck pancakes), and main .. is LONG - God help you if you intend to do anything else. The duck (mid course) did not really taste of anything. I could have been eating cardboard with a slathering of hoisin sauce for all I knew. Good concept, badly executed - you can’t even have an intimate conversation without everyone hearing - it’s that compact. The main was THE WORST part, the crispy chilli beef, well, the beef must have been sliced with the aid of laser scalpel and a microscope. Batter, but i could not detect any beef. The Thai green chilli chicken was watery and undercooked. Bill was £72, taking off the drinks, £47 for 2, seriously, do not waste your money here. We were really looking forward to this meal but were left seriously disappointed. In retrospect, 2 starts is very generous.

Unfortunately I was really disappointed with the takeaway we had from Yummy’s on Saturday night. We have had takeaways before (previous owners) and have eaten in the restaurant recently and have always enjoyed the food. We placed a large order for a special occasion. Overall the hors d'oeuvres were tasty and the chicken satay excellent. However, we weren't keen on the fishcake which is very rubbery and doesn’t really taste of fish. We ordered two portions of pad thai, one chicken and one prawn. Both were disappointing with huge amounts of noodles and not much other substance. The panang curries were generally well received but the duck special (phed makam) was awful. As said above, we have generally enjoyed the food at Yummy’s before, so hopefully this was just a one-off. It won’t put me off eating in the restaurant but I’d think twice before ordering another takeaway.

We've been coming to this venue for years. About once or twice a year for the past 12 years. Its not quite the same as it was but it is still very good. The food is very nice but there has been a Chinese influence to the starters. The Thai curries are still amazing brilliant flavours, good heat and a good selection of meat and veg. We will continue to visit every time we are in Wantage if the quality stays the same.

Nice ambiance and service awful food, the good first, the royal rice was exceptional and a solid 5 out of 5 , unfortunately everything else was terrible, the squid was from Dunlop and the prawns were slimy .. Uck ! A nice singha beer and appalling red wine , I did warn my wife that they simply don’t do wine but she ignored me, I have had the Chinese takeaway on numerous occasions and its really good so very disappointed in the Thai restaurant experience, will stick to the Chinese takeaway from here on In 🥲

If you like Oriental style cuisine, then go here! It's quite a relaxed atmosphere, and feels as though you're sat in somebody's front room. The only bit that put me off (otherwise it would have received 5 stars) was the owner's eagerness to ply me with a 2nd beer. Either I must have 'I am a raving alcoholic' written on my forehead, or he is psychic! As it turns out, I wanted one anyway. Either way, people should be allowed to relax, instead of being pressured into making a purchase they may not wish to make!

The restaurant is a lovely old building and we had a great table by the window. Service was friendly and welcoming. However, we were really confused by the food, which has had excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. Several members of our group ordered the fishcakes. We each received a very generous portion of four each. Unfortunately, they bore little resemblance to fishcakes and instead tasted like flabby, cheap burgers, with no discernible fish flavour. We did ask the server what kind of fish they were made from, but she didn't know. She didn't ask why we had all left our starters...'Chicken' satay was a little better, though the 'meat' also bore little resemblance to anything with wings, feathersand a beak. Satay sauce was delicious. Similarly, our main courses consisted of quite tasty sauces, but the so called 'beef' and 'chicken' was inedible. None of us have ever experienced anything quite like it before. We all enjoyed the beautifully cooked Jasmine rice and stir fried vegetables, but all of us left the meat. Again, no comment from our server. As this was a special birthday meal, we had the usual British awkwardness about not wanting to make a fuss, but this was probably the worst food I have eaten since my student days. This restaurant is beautiful and the staff are nice. The chef clearly knows how to cook a mean sauce, but they really do need to look at the provenance of their meat.

I am sad to say that we at first thought this place was nice, however we just received our delivery and while at first we were enjoying it, my wife bit into her chicken satay only to find that it was raw inside. I had already had a satay thinking that it was just a tough piece of chicken. I now think that it was probably raw too. Feel quite sick now and we have thrown the rest of the meal away. When I called to complain I was told that the kitchen was busy and that is probably why it was uncooked. Not really a great reason for food poisoning.

Food Hygiene rating of 3... I now understand the reviews on here. This place was purchased by the Chinese opposite recently and as such the food has gone down hill. I ate here several years ago and it was lovely. Having eaten there on Tuesday, the food was rancid. Everything is deep fried, bland, tasteless and cheap ingredients. I can only guess its all bought in, but the cheapest available. Drinks list is limited and verging on poor. Over priced rubbish and we were all up during the night being sick. Avoid this dump!!!

It is 'New' for certain, as they likely have new owners, new chef (likely Cantonese) and new waiting staff (Cantonese for certain). For readers not sure, Cantonese origin often run most Chinese takeaways. It reflects in the food - which is a far cry from actual Thai food - the pad thai was the obvious candidate to try their authenticity. Too sweet and too sour. The coconut rice was simple normal rice with coconut milk drizzled on top. The only saving grace were the Thai fish starters, which we later found at the Chinese supermarket (whole pack costing less than than the dish). The Indonesian curry (in a Thai place) had good flavour (thus the 2 star) though too much onions overpowering the other spices. All in all, a one time visit - sadly no longer the Yummy Thai of before.

Sorry but this is quite simply not good at all I very rarely say something can't be eaten but on this occasion that is the case. we ordered the Thai Royal Feast thinking a nice selection of things and some variety would be nice the price was a little high but we thought it would be nice. The starters were OK but nothing special and one of them was just frozen veg in a pastry parcel. Hoping for better from the mains but this is where it just got inedible absolutely no seasoning on hardly any of it no strong flavours like you expect from Thai food the rice doesnt even have salt in it. the meat is not good quality and I honestly can make a far better pad Thai. This felt like a cheap Chinese ready meal from the shops only with less flavour and at £45 for the two of us I'm actually shocked at how bad this food is. This 100% is not Thai food, this is bad Chinese food disguised with Thai names. Save your money and eat somewhere else simply not worth it at all.

READ ALL OF THIS - Chef is not Thai Staff and Restaurant Starting off on a positive note the service was good and the staff were friendly. The shop seems much neater and has brightened up since it was taken over. The food When asked I was told the Chef is Thai however that is not the case. Having eaten Thai food all my life and trying food at various Authentic Thai restaurants throughout the UK and Thailand I can safely say that the curry was too sweet and I like sweet food but this is too much, tom yum is nowhere near what tom yum actually taste likes, this is hard to explain without you tasting this yourself but in short it has little to none lemon grass from the taste. The Chef The chef is not Thai but actually Chinese. How can I justify saying the chef is not Thai but actually chinese? Well I asked to speak with the Chef and the staff went to the chef speaking in chinese with him and once they spoke to me all they could say was Sawasdee Krub, when I tried to ask more questions that Thai people will generally ask to each other in Thai The Chef made reluctant noises and left which this intern justifies my statement of the Chef not being Thai. Service Charge This may just be my opinion but a service charge of 10% that is included on the initial bill should be left out unless the customer tips or requests to add the service charge. I understand that customers can request to not pay it but when I did this they looked confused but then later removed it. Further to this my reasoning for not paying this was not entirely due to service but due to food quality and being lied to about the chef being Thai which is partially due to the service. Finally I understand that it's not simple or cheap to employ a Thai chef. Before when they had a Thai owner most of the food was great and most importantly the chef was Thai and the food was authentic and brilliant. What they are doing is destroying the reputation of Thai food which is not good for Thai culture this is not the only place that is doing this but it has to be noted that this is happening Hopefully the owners will realise what they are doing and change the name of the shop removing the word Thai or even state very clearly that it is not authentic.

My wife and I booked a table at the Yummy Thai and for service and quality of food, other than the spongey fish cakes and the unusual bread, it was first class. We had also the Chicken Satay, my was the Masaman Curry with Prawns and my wife had the same but with Chicken. Added to this we had the coconut rice, the vegetables, all nicely washed down with a bottle of Rose wine from Uruguay. Also the service from a lady there was superb also she was very keen to ensure we had all details of all dishes ordered. After a lovely time we asked for the bill and that is when we were somewhat taken aback by that nasty little habit that some in the provinces have learnt from the London Restaurants, yes just like the Burj in Wanborough a service charge of 10%. Again without mention on the main menu. So as with the Burj we asked the lady serving us if they were included on the share out of the service charge and she was firstly reluctant and then said she could not say. Again diners need to vote with their feet to prevent each and every restaurant in this area big or small using this to make additional money with no real reason other than bad habits from others. We would have willingly given the lady serving us a cash tip but it was only on leaving that we were told the service charge is voluntary. My view is that it should not be there at all.

Very mixed and to be honest I’m not sure what to say.Service – pleasant no problem. But spilt food over the table, my cutlery & glasses. Not a word. Asked if we wanted any prawn crackers AFTER our mains ! But, worst, had no clue what dishes they were serving us ! We had 2 similar curries, one lamb one beef, and when being presented with them we asked which was which (as they were for 2 different people and not being shared) and they really had no idea. Zilch. Starters – poor. A platter of deep fried ‘Beige’ ! Fish cakes with NO taste. What happened to Coriander ? Thai Basil ? What happened to lime and chilli ?? Small and tasteless. I like Thai Fishcakes but these were worse than a selection that you might get from a supermarket. Prawn Toast – I love it. BUT I have NEVER had Prawn Toast BATTERED and then deep fried anywhere in the world. NO sesame seeds just deep fried batter is all you could see & taste. Awful. Mains – no bad. Curries were nice (once we had worked out which was which) a beef dish nice, a prawn dish nice and Pad Thai OK. It was a Saturday night but they were about ½ full so not rushed off their feet at all. We have most definitely had better and from here which makes it worse.

I will preface this review by saying we dined here on 6th August 2021, one day after they reopened from a summer break. For that reason, I'm hoping they iron out some kinks. My wife and I booked a table for 7pm. All very nice, with a candle and single rose waiting for us. It was our anniversary, but I don’t think I told them that when I booked. The main waitress was very friendly, took our drinks and meal order and brought the drinks and starters quite promptly. Now usually, I dislike having my main course arrive within a few minutes of finishing the starter, so we were quite happy for a delay. However, this was a LONG delay! They were obviously very busy with takeaway orders, but we waited for a good 45 minutes. That wasn’t a major problem, but I was disappointed that the waitress didn’t check in to apologise for the delay. There was another young waitress on duty, who we discovered was on her first day. She kept popping in to look around the seating area, but didn’t seem to do anything! We had to ask for another drink, and even that took a while. The meal itself was fantastic. We last ate here about a year earlier, and the dishes were quite salty. Big improvement. My wife had a Penang Lamb Curry and I had the Chilli Chicken with Basil. REALLY tasty, as was the Coconut Rice and Prawn Pad Thai.I think it’s a husband and wife team running the restaurant, and they were very sweet. We didn’t necessarily have a problem with the service charge built in, but we wouldn’t have tipped for service otherwise.I’m writing this review for the benefit of the owners. Hopefully they will iron out some issues in regard to the service, because the restaurant is lovely and the food excellent. It’s definitely a little pricier than usual, but we didn’t really mind given the COVID issues and the possibility they may have limits on the number of table bookings they can have.So yes, I would recommend this restaurant and hope the service improves.

A wonderful hidden gem in the heart of Wantage. The food here is superb, flavours are authentic and portion sizes are filling. Prices are reasonable, but reflective of the quality of the food. Would recommend dining in as the service is good and a lovely atmosphere.

First time ordering from Yummy Thai Food was delivered on time and piping hot. Delicious dim sum, noodles, chicken massaman and a tofu dish. Will definitely use again.

Excellent food and exemplary service despite current lockdown. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the standards still high following a change of ownership. We cheered up the January blues with a takeaway - particular highlights were a Thai salad we’d not tried before, and the Singapore noodles. Both quantity of food and the pricing was fantastic. We look forward to returning to the restaurant when we’re able to - it’s a quirky, charming environment and the service is always excellent.

We held our small (Covid) wedding reception at Yummy Thai and they were wonderful! Great food and drinks and staff were all very helpful, friendly and all very hygienic and safe. Chicken Massaman Curry & Thair red salmon were our faves. Our guests did not stop talking about the amazing food afterwards. Cant wait to go again. Thanks Sam and Team xxx Nat & Hayden

Although the service was a little slow this was probably a COVID issue and it was all made up for by the quality of the food. My only gripe was that the hot dishes could have been hotter.

Have eaten here a couple of times under the new owners and food has been good. Had a couple of take-away's in July (always ate in previously) and both were excellent. Had a another delivered take-away this week (it came very quickly !) and although most was good the beef dish was like....leather. Reheated beef. Not nice. Hard, leathery, chewy. Maybe it was because this was a Thursday and they'd cooked a batch day before etc. Either way it was not nice. It hasn't put me of as I would eat in. If they served that low level of food in the restaurant it would go straight back to the kitchen (and to be fair they never have before).

This was the first visit since the new lockdown rules for restaurants came in. The restaurant was spotless and there are sanitisers on entry, plus staff wear visors and to help keep even more distance you now fill out an order form ( along with track and trace details) yourself which I thought was quite useful ( no mistaking what you have ordered!)we did not have to wait long for the starter ( vegetable dim sum which as aromatic and tasty. Next we had a chicken pad Thai which was plentiful and plenty of chicken pieces and, a very nice vegetable red curry ( lots of different vegetables and just the right spiciness) the server was really nice and attentive and we enjoyed the meal very much and would go again

A spur of the moment we popped in and they were able to find us a nice table with some great food. We really enjoyed it and our first meal out since the lockdown. As were only in the area for a couple of days decided to come back tonight but this time for a take away. Great friendly service and tasty food Thanks

Was put off by a disappointing visit under the new ownership. Gave it another go once more in the hope it was a one off but got the same experience.

Probably would have been brilliant. It certainly smelled good. Walked a long way into the cold (my choice, enjoyed the walk). It’s take away only now. Nowhere, that I’m aware of, does it say this is not a restaurant. I left as by the time I had walked back it would have been frozen rather than cold. Sorry to leave a negative review without eating. I will return should you become a restaurant again. I wish you luck.
