Lovely pub in a very attractive village (look out for the thatched cob walls). Warm welcome in the pub, good selection of ales and well prepared food. The menu may look a bit limited (burgers and salads) at first glance, but hides a wide range which suited all tastes in our group.

Sunday lunch with a family of 10 and it was amazing! The food was delicious, John came to our table with the food and explained what he’d included in our roasts - we had all the trimmings and it was utterly delicious. Annabel was so kind and attentive as a host, ensuring we had everything we needed always. From booking (which we’d done late due to being let down by another pub) through to enjoying the day, it was a wonderful experience. Thanks for everything both of you, you truly did save the day and we all had a great time! See you again soon.

Stayed after my lovely cousin’s 50th birthday party. The bed was so comfy, best nights sleep in a hotel ever! Cloud- like duvet and pillows. What a lovely, homely vibe the Red Lion has. Our party nibbles were gorgeous- the mini burgers were particularly delish! Super spot, especially if you are visiting England from abroad- you couldn’t find a more quintessentially English village and pub. A visit to Styles Acre cafe at Savages is also a must for the morning after- social enterprise and inclusion at its very best (yummiest pastries from the Blewberry Bakery too). A gem of a place xx

A big thank you to Annabel and John for providing us with a perfect venue along with super food and drink for our wedding reception. Set in a beautiful location, our guests were able to park easily in a private paddock and walk easily to the church. Everything was very accessible. Some of our guests were able to stay in comfortable rooms at the Red Lion too. We all had a fabulous time. The hard work that was put in beforehand made the accomodation, paddock, private meadow and gardens look so lovely - the food and drink was delicious and plentiful - it all ran smoothly and was very much appreciated. Thank you! - Jackie & Guy

A big thank you to Annabel and John for providing us with a perfect venue, along with super food and drink for over 100 guests at our wedding reception. Set in such a beautiful location, our guests were able to park easily in the private paddock, take a 5 minute stroll to Blewbury’s 12th century church for the ceremony, past cob walls, streams and fields. Returning through the private hobbit gate and meadow to the garden, we had a magical time. Everything was so accessible and ran so smoothly, despite a short rain shower! Some of our guests were able to stay at the Red Lion too and enjoyed comfortable well presented rooms. The hard work beforehand to made the accomodation, gardens, paddock, and meadow look so lovely, didn’t go unnoticed. Thank you for a fabulous day. Jackie & Guy

We went for a nice Sunday roast lunch and were met by a very rude server who when we said we would just like tap water and not alcohol went "Oh well that's not very good is it" and was very disappointed we didn't want expensive drinks, particularly alcoholic. Then the food came, and the Yorkshire pudding was more like an omelette, it tasted eggy and the rest of the meal was mediocre at best. I really wouldn't recommend for a Sunday lunch

3rd visit: They simply do not ever disappoint. Places like this and the wonderful people that run it are extremely hard to come by. I have found John and Annabel to be the most lovely, welcoming and entertaining hosts. If anything was to be an issue they would bend over backwards to help. They truly put their heart into running one of the most unique village pubs I've ever come across. My partner and I did not eat there this time however the food has always been perfect. This time though I thought its only fair to give them credit for the unparalleled service they continue to provide. Thanks again Red Lion @Blewbury. We will be back for sure. 1st visit : Absolutely outstanding! This pub has got to be one of the best hidden gems I have ever found. The landlord, John, is very kind, welcoming and polite. Nothing is too much trouble. The other staff are also brilliant. They are all friendly helpful people. The pub itself is a lovely building full of character and is very clean, tidy and well kept. The room are very clean and well presented. Great selection of drinks too. The food was excellent. Great choice of meals to choose from. We had a fantastic stay here. Would definitely highly recommend.

Appalling service and experience at The Red Lion Blewbury. Sunday lunch for 8. Waited over an hour for first course all the time being plied to order more drinks - preferably spirits. Table next to us were encouraged and praised for ordering rounds of vodka “ that’s what I like to hear”. Being drivers we opted for rounds of soft drinks. Portions were meagre- one roast potato, mini shop bought Yorkshire and matchbox sized burnt cauliflower cheese slice. Another long wait for desert. Again plied w drinks. Was this the motive behind the extremely slow service? Apple crumble had run out but one slab of shop bought apple PIE produced with no explanation. It seems the other table had agreed to forgo this - their “crumble” ( ?) Had to ask for cutlery, likewise for coffee- no spoons. Bill split 3 ways. Could it get any worse? Oh yes! We were told service charge was optional BUT — “as we hadn’t had alcoholic drinks we had to pay 10% - more if we wished! “ Astonished and in disbelief my sister in law repeated the waitresses words. “ yes that’s right” she said. We all paid 10% altho this was totally and utterly undeserved. Even worse - one of our group queried their bill as it was £3 more than expected,- on TOP of the 10%. This Waitress said she “ had rounded it up” . So , not a mistake. -This was blatant, deliberate THEFT! She then said she thought it would be “difficult to refund on the card “ ( why?) and “wasn’t sure if there was cash in the till.”We let it go and couldn’t wait to leave this inhospitable venue, cold in reality as no heating and cold in its welcome. I’d told waitress on arrival it was my husbands birthday, hoping for a sparkler or similar in his dessert. Nothing of course as they obviously aren’t into pleasing or valuing their customers. On leaving, hearing us mention birthday she called out “happy birthday.” Really?! We have regular family meals out but over many years have never come across such blatantly bad behaviour, nor have I therefore ever written a bad review before. Don’t believe any good reviews for this pub. Maybe they can manage burgers and beer in the garden but Sunday lunch and good customer service is beyond this unprofessional, dishonest, money grabbing outfit.

While this is a quaint english pub, the service ruined the experience. Our food did not come out at the same time, even a little bit. Once we received our main courses, the chef argued with a member of my party over the temperature of her food (Who truly wants to eat a luke-warm-at-best Roast?) The vegetarian options were limited, which is okay, but there was no compensation or increase in our veggies plattered when we ordered a vegetable roast compared to other family members with meat roasts. It was all around a disappointing experience since a family member had been excited to show us this restaurant, and now he will not be going back.

An outstanding English pub in a very beautiful English village. The main road through Blewbury belies the incredible village that exists alongside. A warren of small roads lined with well kept houses, riverside leafy walks and history in abundance, seems to lead back to the Red Lion pub. Well it did for us. The pub has been extremely tastefully refurbished and provides everything a great pub should. Good food, good ale, good company and space to do it all. The staff are frenetic in their attempt to provide the best service and manage that with great humour and communication. Easily one of the best pubs I have ever visited in a long life and will return for more.

This is quite a tricky one...The Red Lion has the best garden for a family and children alike. Unfortunately this is not reflective of those families desperately wishing to embrace a local boozer to accommodate. Blewbury is utterly a village of two halves. I just feel that (although I appreciate profit and the current financial situation for the majority) this lovely pub does not accommodate for the spectrum of potential clients. Maybe I'm just rather old fashioned but as being a land lord or lady lady you are fundamentally, 'Hosts'. Just so very soul destroying. Practically the Red Lion has in theory so much but offer so little and unfair extreme prices only embraced by those privileged.

Set in a wonderful location, this is the epitome of 'middle England'. Lots of BMWs, Audis, Volvos and Jaguars in the car park. At a rough guess, half the customers have been to private schools, the other half wishing they had been. If you don't mind hearing a lot of RP however, it's still a very pleasant environment, especially if it's sunny enough to sit in the garden. It obviously gets very busy and we didn't have time to eat on this occasion. Maybe next time. The village is a great place to explore and this would be a good place to take a break if doing any of the long-distance walks that intersect this area. So different to nearby Didcot! It's almost like a different country.

The girl who served us was very nice and considerate. Unfortunately that’s where our positivity ends. There were three main courses on the daily menu. After we picked up the menu from the bar and made our decision, we were told one of the three courses was not available (even though we were one of the first to eat). We ordered a humus starter which was £6 which consisted of half a spoon of humus and two small pieces of bread. Then we had the lasagna and salmon for a main course. The ingredients for the lasagne were below par, the minced meat looked dark brown and dried out. There was a trace of tomato. The portion was 2 to 3 inches squared and half an inch thick. The salmon tasted like it had been frozen and overcooked at the same time. There were no sides with both the lasagna and salmon even though we paid £15 each. All three dishes had the same salad. The salmon was supposed to come with a separate salad, though this was exactly the same with an added piece of white mango and two slither’s of avocado. When asked if everything was ok, we commented everything we described above. There was the response that she was sorry to hear our comments and that the Dutch are known to be direct, after which we got presented with the cash machine. We’ve been traveling in the UK for two weeks now, visited multiple pubs and were never disappointed with the English cuisine until now.

The Sunday lunch is fantastic. Amazing beef, tender and full of flavour. Love the newly decorated restaurant with a huge flatscreen streaming wonderful scenery. Very enjoyable visit with friendly atmosphere. Extra gravy please 🙏

The Red Lion put on a whole afternoon and evening of music in their gardens on Saturday for a ‘Red Fest’ which will hopefully be repeated regularly. The acts were varied and helped create a fabulous atmosphere on a lovely day for people to just...

We’ve been here many times over the past 40 years and have never been disappointed. With a new owner in place it was time to revisit. Initial thoughts were not very positive. The kitchen has been moved to a shed in the garden and the...

The starters were amazing, if you like garlic, defo get the garlic prawn, very garlicky! My partner got the steak and he enjoyed it, the peppercorn sauce was slightly salty we think. I ordered the confit duck leg and sadly some part of the meat was quite dry which I couldn’t chew it, a bit disappointed on it, cuz I was looking forward to it. We shared the cheesecake at the end, not bad, better to share, cuz I don’t think I could finish it myself cuz it’s a bit heavy, tastes good tho. Extra point is I like the atmosphere there, very cozy and lovely pub. I’d go back again for drinks only maybe

Quite the poorest value fish and chips I have tasted in a long time. The extortionate price of £10 was not reflected in the quality of the regular-sized meal I ordered, nor in the surliness of the individual who served me. The piece of fish was not freshly cooked. The batter was thin and the contents were dry and unpalatable. I had to throw the meal away. I feel that a score of 2 is over-generous as there were few-if any-redeeming features.

I called them at 17:05 to place an order for myself for delivery. I tried to explain the delivery address as some people have a job to find it for some reason (especially in the dark) but she didn't want to know and cut me off! I then called them at 18:12 to check where my order was and she told me it had left....I live 8 minutes away but due to having a drink I had to get it delivered! It arrived at 18:30 and it was slightly warm! (The only thing that was still hot was the curry sauce!) My prawns were soggy and to be honest I couldn't be bothered to phone up and send it back I say clearly made it clear they weren't interested when I phoned it 18:12! I generally have no issues with the food and especially when I collect it myself as It's nice and hot. I'm just annoyed as this is not the only occasion it's happened but slightly warm food isn't great and when you're spending over £25 you clearly want hot food! I walked down my drive and waited for the delivery driver. When she turned up she had a passenger that was holding my food just in the carrier bag. It wasn't in a insulated bag which it should have been which might have kept it hotter than it was. They seem to be quick enough to take your money, but they deliver your food in a poor way. The lady who delivered it was pleasant enough but my food wasn't delivered in the proper manner and it spoiled my meal.
