York Road Golden Cod in Doncaster

Poor quality and over priced £20.90p for 2 fish and a bag of chips. Can honestly say will not be going back, only good thing was nice staff serving people.

First time I have been and definitely the last. Chips were cold and dry, ate 1 rest went in the bin as did my curry sauce as nothing to use it on. Other meal we had was a very soggy piece of fish and yet more dry chips. Disgusting

Food was late turned up cold ,ordered kebab came in a pitta.save your money please do not order from here ,

I LOVE the fact that the chips are vegetarian as its really few and far between nowadays. The wrap is lovely as well! Always very friendly service

The food was barely warm and dripping with grease. It's batter is normally crispy, but not today, it was also dripping in grease. I understand that keeping friers up to temperature during quiet times is expensive, but so is losing your reputation by turning out food way below the standard you have worked so hard for. It must be costing a small fortune in oil by losing half of it over the counter with the food.. Fair play to them by staying open all day, but, well, you get the drift, . . . . Was I just unlucky, or is this the norm at quiet times?

Excellent food - fresh fish - piping hot - mushy pease beaut - curry sauce - beaut -I have been here many times and never fail to get quality feed. Highly recommended - I’d use the direct delivery verse just eat - as they let them down time and time again… Only problem there store delivery Is only on weekends… So in the week pop to the shop and collect ….

Just received via Just eat our Friday night Fish and Chips after a rotten day at work - didn’t fancy cooking so used Just Eat to order. Food arrived late, it was greasy, chips mushier than the peas and the haddock had transformed into a cod! Won’t be buying from there again or ordering via Just Eat!

Fish chips and peas , can they get it wrong? Yes. Peas were like they had been watered down, fish was tasteless and really thick on the batter, chips were ok, we both felt ill after probably from all the grease. Never again

Visited today as someone recommended, can honestly say it was the worst fish and chips we have ever had!! Greasy, tasteless and truly awful. I rarely leave a bad review but the 4 of us all agreed, the amount of grease left on the plates after we slung them in the bin was gross!! The gravy was thick, tasteless sludge and the peas unbelievable ....... TINNED!! The batter on the fish wasn’t even cooked just soaked in grease. Complete waste of money!!

Not our nearest chip shop but worth the extra mile! Have now visited 3 times ,this time at lunch .fast friendly service from the counter ladies and reasonable priced ,lovely fish and tasty chips, but also a wide range of other options to choose from .

good fish and chips-decent portions--staff a little loud at times-- have seen at tea times it can be very busy--fish cooked to order good value for money

Tonight I decided to buy my fish and chips from 'Andrews Golden Cod ' from York Road Doncaster, I wish I had saved my money and had beans on toast. Usually things are OK from here but not tonight though. Based on my experience the quality of the fish was like something caught in the River Don.and not of usual quality. If I was the assessor of this shop for an award , then it would be at the bottom of my list The fish was hard and dry and thin weighing about 50g rams, basically it was nearly all batter. OK I bought a small fish meal, certainly it was small fish meal at £4.50. They might say what can you expect for that price, I would say a fish worth eating. It has put me off going there again for a long time, I hope they will improve. I just wonder what their excuse would be for my experience, ok blame the cook, it was not the usual person doing the cooking , maybe he was still learning.. On saying that , it is not the first time I have had poor fish and chips from here. The best fish and chip shop near by is on Rowena Drive.

Have just been served the most disgusting piece of fish. Very little batter which was soggy. The fish itself was sloppy in texture. Greasy, pale chips and flourescent green peas. No grease proof paper is used so everything sticks to the wrapping paper.

Excellent service . Rang at 730 with order, was delivered within 30 minutes. Fish and chips tasty and customer service brilliant. Best cod we've tasted in a long time.

It's not very often I say this but WOW the most freshest, tastiest and well cooked fish and chips I've ever had! Will definitely be coming back! Thanks guys keep up the good work 😘

This is a very good chippy - not the best in the area, but certainly up near the top. But, their chicken kebabs in nan bread, are huge!!! - Serves 2 for about £6 something.

This is our regular chip shop it's well worth a visit.it has every thing from fish and chips pizza kebabs u name they have it . Well done golden cod

This a new place. Its not called the golden cod. Its Hungry bitez and there delivery is free. They have a large variety along with desserts. A must try place on York road next to The Lodge

Order donner kebeb 2 chips 2 fish kebab was just slung together and cold looked disgusting when it came only got 1 fish by time the other one came all the chips were cold shambles never again

Having been to the shop many times there is no issue with the quality of the food as it is very good. However, I ordered online and one thing was that the delivery turned up with one large bag of chips instead of 2, also I left comments to add to salt and vinegar to the chips as well as to chuck some folks in as the order was to share, no folks were with the order when it arrived and the one bag of chips I did get were not salted and vinegared.

Go here regular for our take away chips. The place is very clean and the staff are very friendly. There is a wide selection of foods and they also do meal deals which are good value. Definitely recommend.
