Still the best chip shop in the area . Flaky , white fish, crispy batter , plenty of chips which were not soggy and a carton of peas. Still hot when I got home. This wa sthe all day special . Great value .

I do really rate the food and value here, both are great. The service however is really off putting. The girls themselves are genuinely friendly but, even if there's only you in, they rush the hell out of you and it's as if there's a competition to get you served as loud and quickly as possible. (Imagine an F1 pit crew, but a chippy version). Overall good food and value for money, just served at lightning speed!

The fish(cod) was very dry and chewy the chips were just warm we only live 2 minutesaway so nothing to do with the travel time. I think the fish had either been over cooked or was left too long in the heated storage. No way near the quality from our last visit 2 years ago.

Roman terrace is very much "fast food". You are usually in and out very quickly. However, the quality is lacking due to this, often the fish is sat in the top box when you get there and you never know how long it's been in, resulting in it being dry on top and soggy on the bottom. I would much rather wait and have my food freshly cooked to order, but that isn't something they do here very often.

Terrible fish, the fish was dry and the batter like leather and actually inedible. All three of us left it. The chips were nice, but they’re the inexpensive part of the meal. This used to be the best fish and chip shop in Mexborough, I don’t know what has happened.

Every now and again, this chippy gets it wrong. Not a little wrong, I mean properly wrong and today a as that time. Dont misinterpret this review as being a shame fest as its usually very good, but todays offering needs flagging. So... Online order, gets printed off onto a piece of paper for them to follow... easy right? Not today, wasn't even busy, even though 6 staff were behind the counter. Got my order wrong, didn't salt and vinegar, didn't put the sausage in, ignored the request for scraps and the portion size was half of what they used to be, and to add, the lid on the curry pot wasn't on properly so it leaked. Mega. Thanks for that.

Not sure what’s happening with this place but they seem to be loosing that fine touch they used to have. High processed Over fried Very greasy Many other fish shops in the same area worth more of a visit to.

Fast efficient service pleasant staff just a shame about the food, the chips where more big tasteless scraps with no potato found inside, the bread cake looked as it had been defrosted as it fell to bits apart from that the salt and vinegar was ok, needless to say for the overpriced food it went into the bin outside the door.

We have just had the worst Fish and Chips ever. well Fish anyway. Due to Lockdown, we Haven't had Fish and Chips for ages. Drove past the Roman Terrace Fish Bar which looked really inviting and had I known, would have kept driving. When we got home and served up our dinner, I would say that 90% of the Fish was batter and what little fish there was inside was dry and tasteless. I should have known when I walked in and saw all the Fish that were on top of the pans keeping warm. Even the batter was hard and greasy.

Absolutely brilliant fish and chips! Drove past and stopped and what a pleasant surprise. The girls were brilliant and the food was on or with that!

A excellent menu with a great selection To choose from , with a 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Service. I would definitely recommend Roman Terrace fish bar.

Had fish and chips a couple of days ago, what a disappointment. The chips weren't great, bit greasy (guess they may be cooked in lard) but the worst aspect was the fish. It looked great, with white flakes of meat, but sadly it had absolutely no flavour whatsoever. I could have been eating cardboard and it made me doubt whether it was cod, or whether it was something else. I have no idea what you have to do to a fish to make it that bland. My wife, who is less fussy than me, totally agreed. We will be going elsewhere in future

This place is lovely and good vaule for money. It is open all day and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Just happened to be passing & saw it was open so popped in. I will now travel to this fish bar to but chips again. I got the kids a kids meal, really good deal & I asked for a fish special, the whitest fish I’ve seen in a while & when the lady served me I actually said wow is that a special, it was huge! & I got a fish cake with it! Really good value for money & worth travelling to.

I find the food to always be of good quality and well priced from here. However, for me personally it’s the above and beyond approach. I hate chips! From anywhere! So, very often with chippies I’ve been made to pay for them anyways when we get two meal deals or it works out to cost more to buy everything else separate. I’ve also been charged for an additional tray when I ask they do not put the chips on my food as they’re going to be thrown and I don’t want rest of my food tasting like chip fat! So, imagine how thrilled I was when I was offered to swap my chips for a jacket potato at no extra cost or hassle! And it was amazing! Ill never go elsewhere now! It really is the little things that make a great business.

We've been coming for years and I agree the standard has deteriorated. Today was our last visit. They were busy and obviously were not checking things were cooked properly. The chips were raw and not good.

We have been using the Roman for the last 2-3 years. the last three times we have used them the standard of food has been getting worse and worse to the point it has now made on of our visitors ill!!!The batter is raw on the inside and the fish was grey in places. One of our staff ordered the Mix meat munch box and there was a pool of oil and grease underneath the chips and meat section of the box making most of the chips uneatable. Four of the nine meals we ordered went straight in the bin, three more were half eaten before they were binned meaning out of 9 meals only 2 were close to being kind of alright.It is such a shame as this was one of the nicest Chip shops in the area, but after these last three visits the only thing I would recommend this chip shop for now is the soft drinks. It is now apparent that they are more concerned with quantity over quality.

Called yesterday and got £4.50 specialFish chips fishcake and curry Massive portion but food wasn't greatIn fact the fish appeared to have been cooked several days before and the chips where same tooLooking in there ovens you could see loads and loads of pre cooked fish sausages fishcake pies etc That I reckon have been cooked days prior Looks such a popular place maybe they have to pre cooked so many in frontIf yer want cheap food quick and not too bothered about taste call hereI would have gave only one star but for the sheer size of the £4.50 specialBut food just isn't good enoughI won't be calling againBut they won't miss my business , with how busy it was the ten minutes I spent there or so

Fish bar was busy, but we were served quickly. Nice piece of cod and a fishcake, and a mountain of chips. Staff businesslike and brisk.

We use this chip shop quite regularly. Today I am decorating and thought I will ring the order through for speed.....big mistake. Obviously chip shop busy but I was told by a member of staff “I have 3 orders to do so you will have to wait”. That’s why I rang the order through to give the chip shop time. Will not use again as the staff struggle under pressure and I wouldn’t want to add to it,!!!

My partner called in for his and our god daughters tea. Whilst in the fish shop he was asked 3 times what was your order again?? Ordered large battered sausage, chips, curry and scraps? What did we receive? Chips, plain sausage, no scraps and a tub of beans ( no curry ) Lunch went in bin as it would have cost more in fuel. Too many staff serving 1 customer and they clearly don’t listen. Taking simple orders is not exactly rocket science...!!

This has to be the best tasting fish and chips in Mexborough reasonably priced and friendly staff with fast service.

Had a good takeaway from here. A large fish , sausages and curry sauce. It was a meal deal up to 5pm. Worth the £4 . Staff very quick services very good.

Salad to die for, well washed and chopped. Colourful fresh and crispy. Comes in a lovely polystyrene box with a free blue plastic fork. Can't wait for my next feast at Romans.

Been using this place forever, albeit it was relocated from further down the road. Great staff, owners spot on, special mention for sexy Tracey who always fancys me when I go there!

Can be relied upon to provide quality fish and chips at a good price. Hot and crisp , never fails. Very clean too.

Este es un "fish and chips" llamo a sobre una base regular. Me encanta el lugar realmente. Casa hecha bolas y peces picaduras en el menú.

Este lugar aproximadamente una vez al mes. Excelente relación calidad-precio para pescado mini especial, especialmente antes de las 5 pm. Esposo ama el kebab envuelve.

We've been to seaside chippies and other local ones but every single time food isn't as fresh and tasty as it is from roman terrace.The mini fish special is my favourite the portions are generous the price is good and the fish crumbles in your mouth. The chicken kebab is delicious too. We tell all our friends, this chippy is the best!

The food is always amazing. Our favourites are mini fish special (great big 'mini fish' chips sausage mushy peas) for about £4 I don't know how they do it so cheap. Love the chicken kebab meat too. Staff are always friendly even when they are rushed off their feet. Never disappoints. Fish is amazing fresh and delicious. Always recommend to friends and family.

Chips off putting a lot of scrag ends in the portion I would say they use dry white in the chips to keep them once rumbled and chipped which drys then out once cooked that's just my opinion

We are never dissapointed with our order from here. Always good food. Only problem is that you might have to queue for a while at busy times as it is so popular. Good variety of things available.

We've been using this chippy for many years despite having others closer to home. The food is cook fresh and one presumes the oils are changed regularly due to quality. Despite the frequent long queues these are a testament establishment. The staff are very welcoming and exceptionally well organised.

Very good value for money with there meal deals. Had mini fish special fish was not mini and a battered sausage chips really good. Would recommend to anyone

I called in last Wednesday evening and they were queueing out of the door but not to worry The Team were very organised and soon whittled them down. I had a large haddock which was well cooked and absolutely enormous.

Great prices loads for your money open 7 days a week seating outside when weather is warmer but great valve for money

some times they nice, some times they horrible …its handy that they open most of the time when you can't be bothered to cook and most are shut,you know where to go..even if it means travelling….all the staff seem to work and get on together,and never see anyone stood about,they all muck in and help each other..dont be put off if you see a big queue,you still won't be in there long.…you can't really compare them with lynns chippy down the road,that is just a little traditional chippy,with no kebabs etc,its always been nice....but not open a lot.....but roman is a take away and has something for everyone….especially if you fancy fish and chips and the other half doesn't!…..

We have lunch most Saturdays from the Roman Fish Bar. The fish is beautiful, with crispy batter. Chip portions are huge, we buy one bag and it is plenty for two adults to share. Pies (Pukka) are very tasty, and the gravy, curry and peas good. The shop is kept very clean and tidy. There are always plenty of staff serving, so you never have to wait ages for service. The fish bar is also open on Sundays for tea, something that you don't find very often around here.

We were visiting family in Wath and Lynn's fish and chip shop was closed so we tried the one on Roman Terrace. What a mistake. Chips were tepid at best, no flavour. Batter was soggy, fish was tasteless and the sausage was cheap. We asked for a carton of mushy peas but got a small dollop on top of the chips which wasn't enough to go round. We didn't get chance to add salt and vinegar and they said that there were no scraps. Lynn's is cheaper, better and better service but, unfortunately, was closed when we went by. in future we'd rather not bother than go here again.

Used roman Terrace a good number of times & always get a friendly welcome. Well staffed too so no waiting. Premises of a high standard of cleanliness. Food great...No negatives at all.

Best cleanest chippy about we don't go anywhere else. The chicken tikka wraps are really nice. The fish is all fresh 5 out of 5

This is the place for great fish chips n musy peas. After shopping and you car not be bothered to cook. Whenever you drive by it always smells delicious. And it always tastes as good as it smells. Off road parking friendly staff .

I've been to many fish n chip shops and none compare to this not even magpies in Whitby. Often have mini fish special (it's not mini but it is special) the fish always tastes so fresh no matter what time of day. The chicken kebab meat is delicious too. Staff are always welcoming and friendly. Prices are cheap. Only reason we don't go more than once a month is because we're watching our already chunky figures.
