Golden Cod in Doncaster

Ordered online, received with all sauces missing and kids meal missing - phoned to say items missing and sauces for kebabs - was advised would be sent asap. After 40 minutes we rang, explained to the rude person who answered the phone who then relayed what I said to the other staff for one of them to reply ‘well why haven’t they ate it. If you order a kebab with sauces why should you have to eat it without the sauces because they can’t read an order and deliver it properly. Not all but some of the staff in there are just plain rude and arrogant - horrendous customer service and just not worth it. Don’t order you won’t get what you ordered and it’s not that great to eat anyway

Food was on time however they forgot one of the items and took over 20 mins to then deliver it. The driver and the car that pulled up with them then stayed chatting blocking my drive for 10+ mins after. The food was awful, the wrap half cold half hot and tasted bad and was soggy. The fish fingers were flimsy and breading soggy. All in all, awful

Failed to follow the special instructions of no skin on my haddock, ended up throwing it away as it all broke up whilst trying to remove it..not happy at all tbh.

we did not pre order. our food we ordered last night, for lastnight. has just been delivered? a day late? I'm confused. I've emailed just eat but no response as off yet

Absolutely astonishing delivery service , our first order was delivered over an hour early I sent it back and asked for it to be delivered at the time we asked. Gave them the benefit of the doubt for our second order but yet again over an hour early!!! Did the same as and sent it back, and ordered again today asked for 7.15 delivery but it arrived at 5.45pm !! Why put the option for a delivery time on the app when nobody takes any notice of it ??

Will be using again...fast delivery...

I ordered a large battered sausage & chips with curry sauce, you gave me a small battered soggy sausage tf? Usually pretty good but that was just awful waste of money but it’s fine, I won’t order again.

Was going to order delivery but, I'll be damned if I'm going to 50p service charge is that to put them in a box? and £1.50 to deliver less than a mile away.

Worst takeaway ever ordered for pre delivery and arrived an hour early, the mixed kebab I wanted with garlic mayo arrived with normal mayo and was swimming like a bath in it all, the chips were stale and cold. I ordered a chicken shish and got some kofta lamb in my wrap. When I run up the gent tried telling me it was a chicken shish wrap like calling me a lier I don't know difference between chicken and lamb? Most of it went in bin and the thought of eating here again makes me physically sick! AWFUL FOOD

The best chicken kebab in Thorne by a mile. Had previous problems with this place and stopped using it for several years but recently ordered and it was perfect

Best cheesy chips ever, generous with the cheese and layered throughout the chips and nice and melted! Ordered small battered sausage and got a large! Also really nice! Everything arrived piping hot, no complaints!

Ordered a large fish and chips and a battered sausage. The large fish was actually 2 small fish which was odd. First takeaway I’ve ever been to where they don’t ask you if you want salt and vinegar before wrapping it up and was made to feel a bit awkward to ask for it afterwards. The lady who served me was quite standoffish. The food itself was nice (even with a lack of salt and vinegar) but I probably wouldn’t return.

Food good. Always forget something when ordering on website!!! No one called when delivered as highlighted on delivery notes! Food sat cold in reception as unaware it had been delivered

This is the best tasting and texture Cod for miles around. The batter is thin and crispy, not thick and soggy like many locally do you “make it look bigger”. The chips are always perfect and the price is competitive, not the cheapest but not the most expensive, but the food and service is always great.

Rude on the Phone Food took Over a Hour to Arrive. When arrived food was Cold. Only Pos is Delivery Driver was Polite

So rude it’s ridiculous orderd and it said it will ring when get here and said still cooking on website then rang me after they came because we couldnt hear the door and went back and said that I’m not helpful and that’s no good in a cheeky matter to me over the phone they came again and asked to charge extra which I couldn’t coz it was on card and then driver slammed door very aggressively and drove off speeding about it ridiculous…probs gonna charge me extra off my card without me knowing

First time there and very good food and very polite

Ordered 2 different large kebabs, they delivered 2 small chicken kebabs, replaced the wrong one within 35 mins but again said "S" on the box so assuming that's another small portion, not large as ordered, food was warm rather than hot, but nice enough. Just a shame they can't get a simple order right!

Staff just ignored everyone stood waiting while they prepared food for delivery - so rude.

Really gone down hill this place, same staff for god knows how long so should know what their doing. Pay extra to add things to your order and somethings always wrong. I still order because I do enjoy the food, I’d just like to start receiving what I’ve paid for. Rang up about it once and was made to feel like I was lying. Unknown to them I’d had things previous to this missing on my orders and never said anything. It may seem like a little thing to forget my sauce on my chips but, I paid for that and when it happens EVERYTIME it’s beyond a joke now really is

Food came 45 mins late soggy and cold everything stuck to the wet greasy paper it was wrapped in, fish massively over cooked batter was like rock and chicken wrap fell apart when tried to pick it up.Ordered my daughter kids cheesy garlic bread kids MEAL but it’s just a cheesy garlic bread nothing else so don’t know how they get away advertising as a meal it’s like ordering a happy meal and just getting chicken nuggets nothing else. Phoned the shop and there response was poor. Wrap it back up and we will cook it again. What and wait about anouther hour and 45 mins let my 9 year old eat her tea gone 9pm.

Great value for money, just missing fish bites in batter. Every thing else good. Worth a visit,.

We have recently moved to the area and love the food at golden cod the only thing that let's it down is the very rude staff who answer the phone. Perhaps a course on customer service would help. No manners at all

Do not order from here guys. I got around 10 flies in my take away. For him to call me a liar as they have a 5 star rating. Cant stop vomiting now

Ordered from here fri night took over a hr omelette was awful chips not cooked kebab was disgusting salad on it was pitiful even dog turned its nose at kebab need more drivers to get food out at a good time scale

We love to order from GC but unfortunately not tonight!. We ordered and got our confirmation saying our food will be ready around 8.20PM! We received a message at 8.24PM that our food was out for delivery the food turned up at 9.05PM The food was cold there was not one bit of warmth to any of it which is really disappointing We did not enjoy the food as much as we normally would which is a shame.

This is the tastiest Cod in Thorne, no wonder there's always a queue, (even before covid)

I have to pay extra 2£ for 2 small containers of chilli sauce which I was entitled to have it for free on my xl kebab. It is the perfect way to lose a client. On delivery food were ok but bit cold.

Really great food and affordable prices.

I was very disappointed having walked a fair way to find it that there was no price list inside nor outside. Compare this to a take away around the corner which has prices on show inside.

Absolutely disgusting! ordered a chicken wrap absolutely dripping in grease and I've thrown better looking salad away! Won't be ordering again,after a long 12hr shift just wanted something half right to eat but I'd rather starve!!!! Wouldn't recommend

Just had a four seasons pizza and it was awful!!! Only 4 slices of salami, the dough wasn't cooked through properly and the peppers were soggy and not crunchy ( we like pizza with peppers for a bit of crunch) we've enjoyed many other different items many times so very disappointed

Probably the worst takeaway we have ever had. The portion sizes were huge but the quality of food was awful. The food was also served in just paper rather than proper containers so we had pieces of the paper in the food. The fish had been heavily battered it was disgusting the batter was soggy and overly greasy. The chips had black pieces on every other one and were undercooked. The kebab meat was too thick with a very strange texture and the pitta bread was stale and just fell apart. The only salad you got in the kebab is carrot and cabbage. We rang to complain but the manager was very defensive and refused to accept what we were saying. All the time I could hear someone in the background saying they had done a good job. They said they were going to check the CCTV to see how the food had been prepared that is all. No apology. I would deter anyone from using this place, absolutely awful food and service.

empty when we arrived .kept waiting while counter staff (grumpy woman) fiddled with something . served us with a very snappy and unfriendly attitude literally slammed the meal in front of us. not the cheery image i saw on the "best fish and chips award in the press ? product ok but a bit on the greasy side (fat use not oil).

Was a bit cool when it arrived but they took me at my word when I said nice and spicy. Was lovely, thank you. Not many places use green chillies these days as opposed to jalapeños (which I hate) so any time I find anywhere that uses green chillies it's happy days.

The food was OK but it was very cold when arriving at the house so had to reheat.

I always pay them a visit when im in Thorne. Absolutely spot on

Best fish and chip shop in this area. Lovely fish. Since first leaving this review I've edited it from five stars to three because recently we've had to put up with hearing foul language used by the staff in conversation with each other!! (sometimes have to put up with it from other customers but staff, not acceptable!!) Still great fish and chips but not sure now whether it's worth going there and having to put up with the assault on our ears! May have to look for a more professionally run business.

Had a kebab it was awful dry meat overcooked pitta bread and salad was carrots and cabbage no lettuce or onion or tomato won't be going back!

Great food at a great price, no wheelchair access, but they do bring the food out to me.

Order delivered by driver and left wrong order, partner ordered scampi under cooked they rang to collect the wrong order gave us a refund as she explained the scampi wasn’t cooked we carried on Eating tea then ANOTHER knock on the door can we have our scampi meal back!!!! Knocking at the door over a 5 quid scampi meal!!!

By far the best chippy in the area and the prices are second to none.. Order from here every week and will continue to do so Well done guys

The best Fish n Chip Shop for miles around. I have been going there ever since " Pops " took over and that was ages ago. The range of products is unbelievable, something to suit everyone's taste coupled with a good Delivery Service you don't even have to go and get them. The updated Kitchen and Friers have no doubt been a boost to Staff and Sales alike. Pops thankfully is here to stay.

Called into the Golden Cod for Fish and Chips they were very good and a rather large portion would recommend trying these they even cook the Fish with skin on which pleased my Husband as not many people do

Order from here all the time so does family, I rang up ordered a pizza, medium bag of chips and a big bottle of fanta it took over an hour to get here for them to bring a small chips instead of medium and they forget the bottle of pop still charge us full then they said they bring us pop so I said can we order a milk they say " extra charge for delivering when the cheeky bastards forgot our pop and was coming back anyway!! Also chips we're really soggy and greasy! Not order from here again

Order was reversed due to apparently not doing pizza at dinner so changed order was charged twice meal was missing sallad and sauce for the burger <br> <br>Orderd again after sorting the double charge out..... on another date didn't even put sauce on charged me extra even after messing up before not only that but the pizza was luke warm and not cooked through the cheese on the base haden't even melted or toppings cooked and not even any sauce for the chips after all this am done with them wouldn't recomend unless you want the risk of food poisoning at the least and being chaged twice and bits off the order missing and being charged extra for living a 15 minute walk away

Stopped here on our journey. Had the freshest fish and chips I've had for a while. Great portion, perfectly cooked. What's not to like. And had a great laugh with the lady serving us. Highly recommended

Called here for super, very good portions well worth the money, unfortunately there was who I could only imagine was the owner behind the counter eating chips from the food warmers and another male drinking a can of Stella both behind the serving area. disgusting, hence only 3 on food hygiene lucky they have that.

This is a really bad place had food from there paid for a large it was a small portion and it's also gave me food poisoning been all day would give it to a pet dog

I have previously given a 1* review about golden cod however....they have recently had some work done and I have to say I don't know what's changed but we have had 3 takeaways from you within the past month and every one of them have been outstanding best fish and chips I've ever had!

Food is lovely, but because the delivery driver was waiting outside my communal flat building for a few minutes because the buzzer doesn't work.. instead of just ringing me when he was here. He knocked on everyone's windows then when I noticed him here I went to collect food and he was awfully rude and started swearing. Distgusting customer service.

Food is great but ordering when 20 mins away then having to wait 25mins when get there not so great. Get delivered!

Use the Golden Cod most Fridays, pizzas are gorgeous, kebabs excellent, almost always great service depends what time we order but never had to wait more than 45 minutes

Quick delivery, good food, good price!

Been here 3 times now and the service generally is very good. A typical chip shop selling most things these days - doner kebab, pizza, jacket pot etc. The chips are not too bad. I have had the fish and it seems to be okay so far. The doner kebab is good too. The wife hasn't complained neither. The most recent takeaway was very good and the fishcake was nice.

Yet another lovely supper from The Golden Cod. Pizza this time and a lovely one too. All the meals we have had from there have been good. They are always busy and as a wise man once said, "If a restaurant is busy all the time it ain't cos they sell bad food!" In my humble opinion, this is the best takeaway in the area.

We love this place, so much choice, really good value. Does take a while to get your order but everything is cooked fresh. Garlic bread with cheese is the best around
