Me and lads from work get fish and chips from golden cod every Friday and it never fails to impress us, very good prices and brilliant staff! Definitely recommend.

Awful 😖 I asked for a large haddock.she gave me cod,he said no haddock left,I said why not tel me its cod i said.he said because we've ran out.i said I want a fresh cod at least,he refused so I took the original cod out of the heater,mushy peas bloody Awful like bullets,chips passable. Foreigners can't cook fish and chips like the British..its a fact.awful experience. Advertised haddock.he said its cod.

Well I wont be using this place again the last time I went I got a donner meat n salad sandwich and I got the lettuce core and pinky brown lettuce within in it, now I know mistakes happen so I let it side as I've used this chippy for years went back today got 2 burgers got home went to take a bite to see mouldy burger buns on both 🤮 and that I cant let side it is disgusting the owner was the 1 who served me and said he would replace them but I couldnt stomach it after that he said I could have a refund tho so was fair even tho the order cost me 11.20 and he only give me 8.60 even tho I took it all back and he did apologise more than once but sorry this place is not for me no more.

Just had 3 of the most disgusting portions of cod, land the chips where old and dry, The cod was dry old and was like eating carpet really thick batter and old fish, chips were dry and tasted warmed up the mushy peas were full of water with no taste, to say I was disappointed is a understatement, at nearly £25 I feel I've been robbed won't be returning, absolutely disgusting wouldn't even give it to my dog I'm so disappointed don't waste your money people.

Found this place on my travels. Wasn’t expecting to take out a small loan. Massively overpriced, £8.50 for a small fish and chips, don’t even get a free drink included with the meal. Also they only accept cash. Can’t say I’ll be coming back next time I’m in Doncaster.

Really disappointing today hard and barely warm chips. Was supposed to be an after school treat. Clearly I've been subject to chips sat there for some time.

It is really nice food however me and my family all had some small fish bones in our food and we have a 1 year old who ate this who also had a bone in his food

There are only 3 chips shops in Doncaster I would use and this is in my top 3. Food is good quality and cooked perfectly. Staff are friendly.

Came here for the first time. En will be the last chip's were all morks in them peas wernt even green she put too many chips on when I sed I only want a few. Me scraps I asked for went soggy cos she put me peas all over the top of em en the peas well as I say not even green,and they were like water soaked all on the chips leaving hard bullet peas on top! Yuk no flavor even in the vinegar .Never again!

I really like this chippy, the staff are warm and pleasent, the food is generally good, and allways generous amounts of chips, one portion is enough for two people, it's popular so sometimes there is a queue, there is a good choice on the menu, some items you have to order on entry. Really worth a visit for a treat.

I grew up in West Yorkshire, where many fish and chip shops still use beef dripping to make their fish and chips. When I bought a house in South Yorkshire I had a rude awakening (if you can indeed describe an awakening as lasting for many years) when trying to get the perfect serving of everybody’s favourite fish supper. Sadly, after about 15 years I have to report that most chippies around Doncaster fare very poorly when compared to the standards in Leeds/Bradford/Halifax and other places. I started asking people who run these places (in Donny) what they put into the fryer and batter - and most people are using firstly something like vegetable oil, and secondly they make their batter using pre-mixed ingredients from stuff knocked up in a factory. This is the reason they all taste the same and are very bland to start with. Then there is the problem that a lot of these fish and chip shops also supply pizzas, kebabs, Chinese food, all kinds of nonsense... all of it prepared in packets by some factory supplier. Is it a surprise that I’m disappointed after having the first few decades of my life supplanted with wonderful memories of fish and chips from little knocks in the wall who only did that for a living? You might think I’m moaning a little, but seeing as fish and chips is supposed to be this country is national dish I expect those people who purport to have a fish and chip shop to be able to make it to a certain standard. And my standard is not bland batter surrounding a tasteless piece of white fish. And don’t even get me going on the incredible varying qualities of all the different batters I’ve had to put up with while trying to find somewhere that could do this specific job of making fish and chips decent! So now we’re back to the place I’m reviewing here, known to you lot as The Golden Cod; this place is probably the best in Doncaster but seeing as I’ve given up experimenting and trying all the different so-called fish and chip shops, then I might be wrong. However, of the couple of dozen that me and my friends have tried over 15 years or so that we’ve been here, this place is the best that we’ve experienced and therefore it gets our recommendation above the rest of the turgid bunch who are pretending to know how to make proper fish and chips but secretly haven’t got a clue. And if any of you think I’m not telling the truth, go to anyone who looks like a traditional fish and chip shop in Leeds Bradford Halifax and surrounding towns, try a portion of fish and chips and taste the difference that you get from making the ingredients yourself and not relying on factor output to ply your trade! There’s a reason that these people are making a living selling just one kind of food, and it’s because they do that job very well indeed. My advice to places around Doncaster who say they do fish and chips, as well as a myriad of other options, is that you’re getting away with it because you’re covering all the bases but you’ll never win any prizes for the quality of your nosh.

First time back in almost 17yrs and they're just as good as they were then. I'm quite picky about fish and chips, they were brill.(just clarify curry and not gravy, if you phone your order in).

I wouldn't recommend this fish and chip shop to anyone. The customer service is disgusting. I placed order at 17.46 and it turned it at 19.23. When enquired to find out where it was they where rude and hung up.

No.1 for me friendly service will deliver no wonder they are always being voted as one of the best in Doncaster year in year out.

I dont often leave reviews, I have eaten here on a few occasions and never had a problem, however after today I wont be returning, the chips were soggy and greasy with a terrible funny taste ,fish the same too and dry inside, I managed 4 chips,and my children said the same....all went in the bin.

really good food and cheap. food portions were good too worth the money but they only had 3 chairs outside and there were 4 of us. I had to sit on the floor because my friend wasnt a gentleman and didnt give me a seat so that was sad but I dont blame golden cod I guess my friend is just toxic lol. but the gravel outside is quite comfy and clean wouldnt eat chips off of it but it was good. well done.

First time coming here, and got to say I didn’t enjoy. The price of a child’s meal cost £6 which in my opinion is very overpriced. I don’t think I would have been as upset if it was actually nice. It was so greasy, and tastes funny as my son said and he didn’t eat it. Complete waste of money! Definitely won’t be coming back.

Nice food, dont bother ordering online you end up driving miles to pick up and the order isn't even done even tho online it tells you its being prepared third person to turn up and no order, mr Bob owner get your finger out if your not bothered about the online order system remove it because people are going out of there way to turn up and no order and it's the poor staff that are there apologising and embarrassed because the order is supposed to come through from your mobile phone!!..poor ordering system just poor.

Chips were poor, overcooked, sharp and brittle, if I didn't have curry sauce on them they would have been inedible. Asked for one particular and got asked if I wanted another as the one I chose wasn't ready. Forgot to provide all items. Had signs up that they were 'Chip Shop of the Year 2017'. Not on todays showing.

Not bad parking unless busy then it's very claustrophobic!. It's nice and clean inside and the staff are friendly. It can get hectic at tea times and my advice would be to book your food with just eat to avoid lengthy waits. The food is great with generous chip portions and they do homemade fishcakes which are really good.

Have just been served the most disgusting piece of fish. Very little batter which was soggy. The fish itself was sloppy in texture. Greasy, pale chips and flourescent green peas. No grease proof paper is used so everything sticks to the wrapping paper.

Brilliant food, Friday night treat and they deliver on Friday and Saturday.
