York - a vibrant festival city with Roman roots and a Viking past, offering an adventure for everyone. A city where ancient walls surround incredible local businesses, attractions, shops, accommodation and eateries, with exciting events every day and inspiring festivals every month of the year. Perfectly placed half-way between London and Edinburgh and with the glorious Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Wolds right on the doorstep, York is unlike any other English city. There’s thirty world-class museums you can explore, the best racecourse in the country and a thriving cultural scene. York’s backdrop of cobbled lanes, winding ‘Snickelways’ and even a shopping street that dates back to the Domesday Book, mean this compact city is packed with stuff to see. Check out the impressive 2,000-year-old Gothic halls of its cathedral, or the ridiculously pretty 13th century timbered streets of The Shambles. Take a punt on the horses at its world-famous race course, check out its masses of museums and sample a food scene that spans from Michelin stars to street food in shipping containers. Wash it down with the world’s first carbon-negative gin, or venture to nearby sites as awesome as the city itself.

My experience with the night shift guys who were working at the york railway station was totally awful, i was struggling with paying at the machines and when i asked the securities to help me out they kept showing me other securities who could do that work for until i met Mr Michael who jokely told me he isnt allowed to help anyone and its not part of his job to help people out and sent me again to one of the liner assistant guys who was busy on his phone, when i approached him politely and asked him to help me out he first came with alot of excuses and advised me to get in the train and pay it in there and so i realized he was deeping me in trouble, so after asking his names he suddenly changed and agreed to help me and told me to go to the machines and he will come after he has done clearing one of the trains of which i was remaining with 5mins to catch with my train, i cant understand why the staffs are acting this way inspite of being paid, their customer service isnt right at all... i wouldnt advice anyone who will be struggling to seek help from the staffs over there its better to ask the passengers rather than asking staff for help

Nice enough station but the fares charged from here are utterly criminal. A day return to Leeds is £17.50. The national living wage is £11.44. Unfortunately I didn't have a good experience here. The food was delivered upstairs without any cutlery. I didn't mind and went downstairs to get some, making sure I went to be Tiro so I was taking cutlery from the place I had ordered the food. The 2 chefs were busy, one had just brought the food to my table, I took a knife and fork from the counter and the man who had just delivered the food snapped my head off. I explained that I had just ordered from him and he hadn't brought us any cutlery... He had just been at my table 2 minutes before so I would have expected him to recognise me. He continued to look at me in disgust and shake his head at me... I found it hard to understand why someone could get so angry over disposable cutlery. I will not be ordering from here again.
