Great Tribute Bar but we definitely felt the oldest in there, very student age audience. We went on a Monday 6pm and it was quiet traditional Brit indie playing but by 9pm had a queue to get in and music was more modern we didn't know what was playing. Great place if you're 40+ go early is my advice. Pint and a single Rum and Coke just shy of £12

What can I say. Good bar. Have always enjoyed the vibe.. Being a landlady myself and recruiting a number of doorstaff in the past I can honestly say tonight has been the worst experience. What I can only describe has the most racist door staff is probably an understatement. AGL security what a joke. Thank god there is a bigger better door team taking York by storm.

We visited York as a group of friends aged between 30-70. The door staff tried to act as intimidating as they could, insisting on a body search by one of the, let's say, vertically challenged door staff. He chose the biggest member of our group, a 34yo, 6'6" 23 stone man to search. As he refused, we were denied entry. Very disappointed in the reaction of staff to a group of friends on a birthday weekend trip 😕

Went for a fag for the 5th time then didnt let us back in? Couldnt even give us a reason why. Probably little man syndrome lol. Embarrassing- sorry you’re bald x

Brilliant place, spectacular atmosphere. Went there with a few mates at night and it was worth going twice in a row. Really brilliant place, could not insist more that you go there after hours, if visiting York. Don't know about the food, as I went after hours.

Was excited to return here after the refurb only to be turned away because we were a group of more than 5. We also witnessed a single man get turned away because he was on his own. What’s that all about? So if you’re a typical roses or oasis fan with some mates you’ll probably get turned away. Also. Mentioning something like this on their Facebook page gets you blocked.

After reading some ropey reviews I was reluctant to enter, however my kids really wanted to go inside. Seeing bouncers on the door in the middle of the day was a bit off putting until they smiled at the kids and invited us in to have a look round and take some photos. Everyone inside was friendly. We had drinks and the kids had a bag of crisps each, we all loved it. I’d highly recommend it!

I was told I was too drunk to be allowed in and I wasn't drunk in the slightest.

Don't go near this place, you can't get in. The bounces are a disgrace

Turned away from this place at 2 pm because there was a group of us more than 5 visiting York and in particular this place as we have been here years ago . We are blokes in our 50s with our son's and friends. We are all massive music lovers and love the culture. To be turned away in the manner we did is absolutely disgusting and to think they trying to run a business. Oh well if you can afford to turn away genuine nice people crack on. I hope you fail miserably

Walked up in a group and got turned away, for been too larger group, been before and had no problem, I don't understand why, will not be going again.

Get the signature "blue shit" drink, triple vodka without the taste of alcohol.

Great place, fair prices (especially for students) and cool music!

This venue could have been so much better. We entered and it was busy and the vibe was good. We paid for the juke box but unfortunately they screened the songs. The same song came on by the same bands numerous times. While our songs went unplayed. The smell from all the ‘indie’ boys was disgusting (trumps) the light was too bright and the songs soon turned sour and the atmosphere boring. Don’t waste your money on songs as they will only play to their agenda

Brilliant bar but the queue for the toilets it's insanely long for the women! I find it appalling that we have to wait over 45 minutes to use the toilet! There was two working toilets out of five which is insane! Appalling behaviour

Busy on a Saturday night, get down there early to avoid long queuing to get in. Great music and atmosphere. A lovely bar that is must visit in York.

Was refused entry because I'm wearing jogging bottoms, even though I explained i have recently had an operation and can't wear anything else. No where does it.state that there is a dress code. Was visiting from far away. There was literally a guy wearing joggers that just came out. Discrimination against a disabled person as I can't wear anything tight on my waist. AVOID. Got a reply and they didn't respond to the fact someone else who came out was wearing joggers. Again discrimination against people with disability .

Fab place. It's like a nightclub for 50 year old but with seats! Music is awesome!

What a joke of a place, the manager asked the doorman to refuse my friend entry as he lost his footing on the wet cobbles outside and accused him of being drunk, thanks for attempting to ruin or Christmas works party. It didn't work, we went elsewhere and spent money enjoying ourselves. You should change your name to the Grinch Edit to 2024 xmas, as the above was from 2023 You won't believe this but we went to York this year again for our works Xmas do & thought we would try again to visit. You just can't make it up, we were refused entry as they said our group was bigger than 5 people as there were 8 of us. Honestly im so glad there are other pubs without ridiculous rules on numbers of people in our group

Not one for reviews at all, but we were really looking forward to coming here and we’re absolutely appalled with the service of the bar staff! They’ve decided to have a delivery at 6.30pm on a Saturday night we were stood by the door as we didn’t want to be too crowded and was asked to move so we did, they then asked us to move again so we asked where they would like us to move, they said there’s a dance floor to go to, there was plenty more people around us so I said well you’ll have to get us all to move, he said yeah well outside we’ve got plenty of people queueing to come in, I put my wine glass down he angrily took it and swilled it in the bin, black hair young boy also got a photo and a video of the way he spoke and treat us!! Not professional at all, absolutely appalled can’t believe people, especially workers can act like that!

I had to que but not for long, I'm on my own, made me feel welcome, friendly staff, brilliant bar, its my first time, I will be back :)

Very disappointed when going in. Entire place smelt like a toilet. Only stayed long enough for young member of our party to take some pics. 2 different signs on entry about bag searching leading me to think the usual clientele have issues with illicit substances. Lacking atmosphere but the decor was decent and it appeared to have a decent range of drinks. Would likely give it another chance if in the area but wouldn't be heading directly there.

This place is average. The music isn't really Stone Roses, and the bar staff seem to pick and choose who gets in. Either that or The doormen are discriminatory. Avoid if you’re not local.

Would give this establishment a zero if I could. Having arrived in York for a day out I was excited to try this bar but I was refused entry for “walking funny” and being “too drunk”. I had new dr martens on which are very painful to wear for the first time hence why I was walking funny. I was in a group of 10 which easily would have spent a big portion of money at the bar. But the attitude of the bouncer was disgusting and seemed like he didn’t want to change his decision. Having showed him my blister plasters and my cut feet he still didn’t change his mind. Would highly recommend you have a look at your security guard because you lost out on a lot of money.
