What a joke of a place, the manager asked the doorman to refuse my friend entry as he lost his footing on the wet cobbles outside and accused him of being drunk, thanks for attempting to ruin or Christmas works party. It didn't work, we went elsewhere and spent money enjoying ourselves. You should change your name to the Grinch Edit to 2024 xmas, as the above was from 2023 You won't believe this but we went to York this year again for our works Xmas do & thought we would try again to visit. You just can't make it up, we were refused entry as they said our group was bigger than 5 people as there were 8 of us. Honestly im so glad there are other pubs without ridiculous rules on numbers of people in our group

Not one for reviews at all, but we were really looking forward to coming here and we’re absolutely appalled with the service of the bar staff! They’ve decided to have a delivery at 6.30pm on a Saturday night we were stood by the door as we didn’t want to be too crowded and was asked to move so we did, they then asked us to move again so we asked where they would like us to move, they said there’s a dance floor to go to, there was plenty more people around us so I said well you’ll have to get us all to move, he said yeah well outside we’ve got plenty of people queueing to come in, I put my wine glass down he angrily took it and swilled it in the bin, black hair young boy also got a photo and a video of the way he spoke and treat us!! Not professional at all, absolutely appalled can’t believe people, especially workers can act like that!

Very disappointed when going in. Entire place smelt like a toilet. Only stayed long enough for young member of our party to take some pics. 2 different signs on entry about bag searching leading me to think the usual clientele have issues with illicit substances. Lacking atmosphere but the decor was decent and it appeared to have a decent range of drinks. Would likely give it another chance if in the area but wouldn't be heading directly there.

This place is average. The music isn't really Stone Roses, and the bar staff seem to pick and choose who gets in. Either that or The doormen are discriminatory. Avoid if you’re not local.

Would give this establishment a zero if I could. Having arrived in York for a day out I was excited to try this bar but I was refused entry for “walking funny” and being “too drunk”. I had new dr martens on which are very painful to wear for the first time hence why I was walking funny. I was in a group of 10 which easily would have spent a big portion of money at the bar. But the attitude of the bouncer was disgusting and seemed like he didn’t want to change his decision. Having showed him my blister plasters and my cut feet he still didn’t change his mind. Would highly recommend you have a look at your security guard because you lost out on a lot of money.

I didn't go in, ate across the road at Mommy Thai but there was a queue all night to get in. Seemed very popular

We recently went here and bought 2 pints of Cruz campo and had a taste but didn’t taste anything like it, couldn’t drink it so thought we would go back to the bar to get it swapped or see what they could do, spoke to Kieran who works behind the bar who asked for a taste and said said it was fine and no one has complained about it, he drank half the pint and then give us the pints back and said there nothing they can do, he was very cheeky because he has his mates behind him.

Waited in the queue was told there's to many of us. The door men were really rude about it. They also refused to let 3 ladies in who we didn't know but they said they were with us, even though they weren't. A group of teachers just wanting to enjoy a night out, we weren't going to cause issues. Sorry to the 3 ladies who waited all that time gutted for them, all because they were friendly and just chatting whilst we waited. I'll stick to the Leeds bar, at least we can have fun and enjoy the atmosphere in that bar.

The doormen here are clearly angry. Had a group of 12 and we were honest about that. Travelled for over 6 hours to visit York with this pub being the main event! Disappointed to sat the least. The bar was dead to top it off, clearly don't care about the profits.

Called in last Saturday afternoon with my better half after spotting it on a previous visit to York, artwork on the walls and ceiling is excellent, Happy Mondays, Oasis, Inspiral Carpets and of course the mighty Stone Roses, mostly Manc bands and being from Manchester myself, almost felt like home

If you want character from an indie bar, this is the place you want to go. The England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford drank here in 2019 and his slogan is “get the rave on”. If that doesn’t sell the venue, what will? Thanks.

Visited here with my husband last Saturday during a weekend away. One word…Wow!! This place is a must for music lovers, the decoration is amazing. Door staff were very friendly and welcoming, especially the guy with the tattooed face, bar staff were also very friendly, and yes we tried the infamous blue drink! Cant wait to visit again

Queueing to enter in the evening. Went instead during the day. Large area in downstairs bar mainly standing just a few stools and high tables. Empty during my visit. Should imagine great atmosphere at night.

Used to love going to this place. Visited with my wife a few weeks back, she went in before me as I had to pop to bank. As I turned up, I was refused entry by the unpleasant door staff, because I was by myself, tried to explain that my wife was inside, they were having none of it. Asked if they could go get my wife, they refused and told me to go on my way. Couple mins later, she's been asked to leave. Absolutely horrendous craic, luckily for us we went further into town and didn't have any other bother getting into the bars.
