It's only been open for a few weeks but Yono in the boho Brick Lane area of Spitalfields adds something decidedly different to the mix in a district first famed for curries and bagels and latterly home to every sort of up to the minute street food fad. There's a more traditional French bistro a few doors down the road and you won't have to look far to find Mexican-inspired menus, but this compact little cantina cuisine has a compact and eclectic menu. There's a range of galettes and crepes, burritos and burgers and other things in buns, and for some reason wontons which don't fit into either the French or the South American camp. It looked odd enough to give it a go when we were in the area and looking for lunch - a special platter of croquettes were light, crispy, creamy and delicious - there are chicken ones, cheese ones, mushroom ones and each comes with its own sauce. The olive sauce - the colour is a giveaway - is a delight. We also tried out a vegan special burrito which had much to recommend it. They're very proud of their Colombian coffee but we stayed on cold drinks - soft, sadly, as there's nothing alcoholic on the menu, yet. The surroundings are funky though the loo is a subterranean experience, the French proprietor was charming and chatty. We thoroughly enjoyed trying something decidedly different.

very conveniently located but I would 10000% recommend crossing over the road and going to Jolene's. Don't go near the mochas here unless you like 4 sugars in your coffee to mask the horrendous bitterness. service is alright but its clear that they hope the coffee 'speaks for itself' and at £4.40 for a small takeaway cup I am not happy

Visited today. Delicious. I had the full English. It’s great ! Partner had French toast. Also superb. The breakfast tea I had was also spot on. Throughly recommended

Some unusual cakes. It looks quite appetizing, so we decided to try it. We took one of each: Azuki bean, Vanilla custard and Matcha custard. The only one we really liked was the one with vanilla. The one with beans was a bit strange, the one with matcha, neutral. You can pay by card.

Really bad chicken roast. The kitchen was backed up and sent out a half finished roast missing half of its trimmings. Also had to ask for some gravy and a Yorshire pudding (even these were absent of the plate in the first place). It literally looked like a (not very appealing) appetizer. Felt really bad for the waitress. She was friendly and doing her best but was on her own when there should be more people on the floor and behind the counter… And she had to deal with the clearly mediocre job of the kitchen. A real shame, the building itself is lovely.
