This was our second visit to this little gem of a restaurant as we wanted to try their new Omakase Authentic Sushi Kaiseki menu. We were not disappointed, I believe this is as close to eating Japanese food as your ever going to find in the UK. The service from the knowledgeable Japanese staff first class. As well as being presented with beautiful food, we were pleasantly educated in the ways of Japanese food and sake.

This tucked away restaurant is owned by the most delightful couple, who express such love and passion for Japanese food and culture that you feel as though you are being welcomed into their family. The omakase menu was inspired by a Japanese festival which happens in March, and we were treated to the freshest seafood and authentic flavours alongside a cultural lesson, too! All the food was beautifully presented, and tasted as delicious as it looked. The owners were also very knowledgeable and open about where they sourced their ingredients, priding themselves on serving only the top quality, and the results of their effort is really clear. The main highlights for me were tasting the different ways dashi can be used in cooking and the tea ceremony performed by the chef at the end. I enjoyed the food so much that I tried to eat as slowly as possible to savour every bite - I hope the owners didn’t think that I wasn’t enjoying it, quite the opposite! My friend and I also enjoyed a wee tipple at the end - they have a wonderful selection of Japanese whisky and other spirits I have never seen anywhere else. This was truly a very special experience for my first visit to London in five years!

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene Improvement necessary Management of food safety System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future Generally satisfactory Have you seen the kitchen upstairs very visable from the street it's absolutely filthy I don't know how anyone can eat inside there honestly take a good look before you enter. It seriously needs to be shut down 👎

What a special meal. Wow wow. We had the Omakase summer kaiseke menu and every single dish was prepared perfectly and with such care. The hospitality was outstanding with the hostess explaining each dish, each sake and the history of the food to us. We left full of delicious food and our hearts full too. The chef is so talented and changes the menu up regularly to reflect the seasonality of the produce, and we got to try a new dessert he’d made for the first time that day and it was YUMMY. Can’t express highly enough how much you should spend a special evening here.

You don't often find these places in London. A place where it's not just about the food, because the quality of the food is a forgone conclusion. The chef, Makoto-san, is a true expert, having I think at least 30 years of experience in Japan and France previously, before moving to London. It is its atmosphere that is a true gem in London, it is where loyal patrons come on a weekly basis, it is where the owner connects with you on a personal level, and so did the staff members. For me, that's the true spirit of a local Izakaya. I highly recommend their Wagyu steak, Ox tongue, and all their Sushi & Sashimi, since they are always super fresh. As for drinks, I recommend the Highball. I used to keep a bottle of Whiskey there.

We didn’t have a booking and we’re going to get a takeaway but decided to eat at the restaurant. Some of the freshest sushi I have ever had. Sushi is my absolute favourite and Yokohama does not disappoint. Enjoyed it so much that I was almost jumping up at down at hearing that I am within the delivery service area! The staff were pleasant, accommodating and very attentive. So friendly and helpful too.

My partner and i were here on Saturday night not knowing where to go. Went to go to the japanese closer to our place that was full and i remembered walking past this place previously so we decided to try it out. Soooooo glad we did. My partner is not even a huge Japanese food fan but now that this place is so close to home we will be regulars. It won us on taste, size and price and the staff are so friendly. We will now be regulars. The ox tongue is the best we have ever had.

I went yesterday with my niece. Was the first Time. From outside the restaurant you can see a small kitchen with Japanese chef. I was curious to go in and eat but Yesterday was the time. There were only Japanese from chefs and waitresses. The food was very tasteful and very good. The restaurant was with very poor furniture but its better. it's like to be in Japan in a normal simple restaurant. It's not important where you eat but how you eat. At least this is my opinion. In the bar there was a good selection of Japanese whisky suntory and yamasaki. I tried a yuzu sake was very light like a juice and very drinkable. I can't wait to come back . High recommend

If you want a quick and easy meal don't come here. If you are looking for a proper japanese experience in London, this is one of the few places that will deliver. If you have visited Japan you will get this place. If you have not and are close minded you may go away disappointed. But seriously, one of the more authentic japanese restaurants in London, a bit quirky, not the cheapest but ever so good fun.

Really good service, food, design, and atmosphere. I liked the personal touch and care that seemed evident throughout everything. Everyone there, from the chefs, through to the people serving were very welcoming. It felt like being welcomed into a home. It is an intimate atmosphere without being cramped and intrusive. I am vegetarian, and when I explained this, the person serving us was very helpful talking through which dishes I could eat, and any adaptions that could be made. Don't be put off by what seem like very simple (and what appear to be uninteresting) dishes. They tasted quite different to what I have had before, and full of flavour. The deep fried tofu had a lovely texture and taste, the croquettes were also just right (though careful eating them as they are very hot). I hope to be back.

Horrible service. Would give it a 0 star if possible. Entered the restaurant and the owner said it would be an hour wait as the kitchen is busy. That's fine. We ordered our food and drinks. 30 mins later, got told 3 of our items are unavailable, that's also fine. 1 hour and 40 minutes later , still no food. The table next to us ordered 1 minute earlier than us, and they had received most of their food, we still had nothing. We asked the owner how long it would take, she said she didn't know. So we decided to just pay for the drinks and go. She went upstairs to cancel it. Turns out none of our food had even begun to start cooking. What a joke. She then handed our bill expecting us to pay for service charge - we declined that. What service was there? I wasted 1 hour and 40 minutes and the owner thinks a simple sorry can fix it ? The owner needs to think about how to improve her service for the future.

I’ve never been to Japan so I couldn’t say how authentic this restaurant was but I do love Japanese food and Yokoya served the best I’ve had so far. The menu has the Japanese staples we all know and love but freshly made, using the finest ingredients, by Japanese chefs. In addition there is the “Japanese tapas” style menu with dishes I’ve never heard of. The staff were happy to explain each dish. Yokoya is certainly not the cheapest place to eat, or the swankiest but it is the best. Top notch smiley friendly staff serving top notch food and drink (try the Yamasaki single malt whisky).

A bit of hit and miss but for a price that makes you expect much more. Small plates, so you may leave hungry. We had some nice choices, some not so great and one really poor. Salmon was nice, fried chicken was ok, octopus felt like a nice octopus conserve but not a dish cooked in site and the last straw was the japanese sausage which turned out to be a small plate of cocktail frankfurt sausages with a spicy sauce on the side. The best thing by far was the sake, though for the price it was to be expected. I won't come back.

Popped in here as we were staying nearby and fancied some sushi. Service and food were excellent with an extremely helpful and friendly waitress. The gyoza was cooked to perfection and served with a nice spicy dip and the signature crispy roll was very tasty and went well with the vegetable selection. Will definitely revisit before we head back home.
