The food hygiene at this restaurant is terrible. Truly. Do not eat here. I wandered down the alley next to the restaurant and peeked in at the back and saw fish sitting on the floor in an old box, right next to a dirty mop and container of Domestos bleach! Surely this isn't legal? A little later I saw a large piece of tuna fish wrapped in plastic wrap sitting on the floor! I couldn't believe my eyes. When I took a photo the kitchen worker picked it up. You can see all this clearly in the photos. DO NOT EAT HERE.

It was probably the worst sushi we have ever asked for delivery and the most expensive. It came all messed up and the quality was awful. They also gave us 2 edamame instead of the sushi we asked and we paid over 100£… Personally will never order there again

I did not dine in at the restaurant this time, but I have eaten there a few times before and know what to expect. However, I decided to order through UberEats on this occasion, and what I received for £62 was quite surprising. For the Otoro sashimi, I was expecting at least four pieces, as that's what I typically receive when dining in but I got 3 as you can see in the photo. Additionally, I paid £28 for Uni, but what I received was disappointing only 3 pieces,As you can see from the photo, the quantity and quality are shockingly inadequate. Do you think the price is reasonable? Why is the portion size not the same as when dining in, even though the price remains the same? When I dine in, I receive more for the same price. If the portions are reduced for delivery orders, shouldn't the price be adjusted accordingly?

I want to start my review by commenting about the atmosphere of this place. It is wonderful. Being able to watch the chefs work is always something I enjoy, and being able to see the food being prepared really adds to the experience. We really enjoyed the food. I LOVED the agedashi tofu it was absolutely perfect. It was crispy yet soft, and the flavour almost felt addicting (even enough so that we decided to order take out a few days later before we left London) The fish was also really delicious and tasted so freah, there is a variety of different sashimi which is really refreshing. I was so happy to see Ika on the menu! I later ordered the ika for take out ~ The waiting staff were brilliant too. Next time I come down to London, I will definitely be back!

I recently visited "EAT TOKYO" in Holborn and had an exceptional dining experience. I started with the chicken and salmon teriyaki bento box, which offered a perfect balance of savory teriyaki flavors and tender, juicy meat. The miso soup was a comforting prelude, rich with umami and just the right amount of tofu and seaweed. The fried squid legs were delightfully crispy without being overly greasy, and the fried chicken was a standout with its juicy interior and perfectly seasoned crispy exterior. The crispy soft shell crab sushi and Chef Lin's special sushi were both highlights, showcasing fresh ingredients and expertly crafted rolls. For dessert, the strawberry cheesecake mochi was a refreshing finish, with a creamy, strawberry-infused filling encased in chewy mochi. The ambiance of EAT TOKYO was cozy and inviting, making it a fantastic spot for enjoying authentic Japanese cuisine in the heart of London. The floor manager and all the staff were very friendly and suggestive, offering excellent recommendations. The menu was impressively large, providing a wide array of options at amazing and affordable prices. The best part is, you can dine at a sushi bar for the most pocket friendly prices!

Always good service in the Eat Tokyo branch in Soho, Notting Hill, and Bond street, but the waitresses here were very rude. I came on Saturday night for a seat for 7 and understandably needed to wait a long time - and I honestly wouldn’t have minded if I was told that they couldn’t accommodate 7 in such short notice. However, the waitress was short and rude and told us to wait without keeping us updated throughout. No one was managing the line outside too, and I had to direct every new guest coming to ensure they form a line… haha. Thought the rude service wasn’t worth the wait, so left for another restaurant.

I've been coming to Eat Tokyo for well over 15 years, and the Holborn branch in particular. I've started frequenting the Covent Garden branch as well with friends as it's close to my new office. Both branches are run by Mr Minto, who has always been a great host and we are always extremely well looked after by him and his staff. I loved in Japan for 3 years, 30 minutes north of Shinjuku. All the best times I had were in Izakayas, where the drinks were cheap and the food was delicious. You could sit there for hours, ordering a little at a time, each dish as great as the previous one. Izakayas don't specialise in one particular dish, but they don't a variety of dishes very well. The range of dishes you can get at East Tokyo is without rival, no other Japanese restaurant will give you the variety of dishes you can order here. There are dishes you can only order here, no other place will do it. And they reflect the dishes you would get when in Japan and at a local or chain Izakaya restaurant. One of my favourites is the Kaki Frai (deep fried oysters), which is a Kyoto speciality dish. Everything is great here, sushi/sashimi is a must, they have won awards for their dragon rolls. I have made the mistake of trying newly opened 'izakayas', which all have left me deeply disappointed. We will continue to be regulars here, we have never had a disappointing meal. If you're looking for great, authentic Japanese food at an incredibly affordable price, you won't find any better than here. Save your time and effort and give it a visit. I promise that you'll love it as much as we do.

Eat Tokyo has undoubtedly secured its place as my favourite Japanese restaurant to frequent. Despite its size, the presence of a queue even before opening speaks volumes about its popularity, and after experiencing it, I understand why. The food at Eat Tokyo not only meets but exceeds expectations. The affordability of the dishes paired with their exceptional quality creates an unbeatable combination. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with the inviting aroma of Japanese cuisine, setting the stage for a delightful dining experience. The fact that there's a consistent queue attests to the restaurant's reputation for serving outstanding Japanese fare. It's a testament to the authenticity and flavours that keep customers coming back for more. Eat Tokyo, with its small yet bustling atmosphere, manages to capture the essence of Japanese culinary excellence. Thoroughly disappointed with the Holborn branch of Eat Tokyo. If you want to eat here, I recommend at least going to another branch (Covent Garden, Hammersmith, etc). We had a reservation for 4 at 7:30, and we arrived early so as to not be late. However, they were quite busy and we had to wait until 7:30. When our reservation time was up, a server named Hannah came out to tell us there was one table available, and asked us to give it to someone else to a table of tourists that had come well after us, and we had to wait for the next one instead. What bothered me the most was that it felt almost discriminatory when we were asked to give up the table to the tourists. I would not have minded if Hannah simply said their table was ready first, but she made it clear that we should give up our table for them - I can't find a reason why, but I can definitely make inferences. Nonetheless, the unprofessional staff here ruined our experience with this branch of Eat Tokyo.

Lovely menu, which gives you so much choice that you can get lost in it! Everything is tasty and quickly served. Service is very efficient and friendly. The waiters are happy to help or explain items from the menu. The place is very popular so you need to be prepared to wait in a queue outside for at least 30 min. at peak times. You can't book a table for 2 in advance, which, I think, is a very unreasonable rule! This needs to be revisited.

First time I went to Holborn branch. Food was tasty and fresh and Asahi pint cold as per usual. Fast service which was good as we were hungry. We were sent downstairs first but I felt claustrophobic and couldn’t stay as the room is quite small, went upstairs and was much better.

Food is decent, can’t complain. The variety is the most impressive thing, you’re almost spoiled for choice and the portion sizes are solid. You will find better Japanese food at other restaurants in my opinion, though.
