I was in London 10 years ago and this used to be my favorite restaurant in London. The taste and favor is comparable to the food in Tokyo. It was an authentic Japanese cuisine in London After 10 years I come back to London and visit this place again. I am extremely disappointed. First, the chef of sushi counter are now all Chinese people and they talk constantly and nonstop for over 40 minutes without wear any mask. Besides the public health issue, it is not respectful for clients and food. Second, the Kstsu Jyu I ordered is not as expected. The pork is not well seasoned and the meat is not tender at all. It is really hard to chew. Lastly, the Yaki tori was sucked in the sauce, I am not sure if it is the unique way of making it but I did not experience this in any store in Japan. And the favor of this Yaki tori is over salty obviously. As a previous lover of this restaurant, I am regret that I may not visit this shop again.

Such a let down. Good service but the food is not fresh - cali rolls tasted very fishy and looked mushy as if they were made hours ago and the sashimi was a really poor grade from first time being cut into very thin slices and this time roind not being fresh and having a weird texture. Very very disappointed after giving it a 2nd chance. Other branches are way more superior shame bc the service is great but the food quality is such a let down. Only went because the convent garden branch had an issue tonight or would have definitely avoided

Heard about Eat Tokyo from a couple of my work colleagues and since I live nearby I decided to check it out. I wasn't disappointed! We did have to wait about 30-45 minutes outside as the place is quite small. I can't put a negative point on that aspect, can't help it if you're so popular and have a small venue. However it was completely worth the wait as when I was walking by others the food looked amazing. Getting to our table we did have a hard time deciding what to eat as there was a lot to choose from but when we did get the food it was amazing! Note: When choosing to get a large amount of the food the young waiter did look out for us, gave us recommendations as the curry ran out. He was very helpful and gave us great alternatives. Great service! I wanted more but I had to resist! Highly recommend heading here if you can HOWEVER be aware of a queue outside (around 6pm) and a crowded, tucked environment.

Absolutely delicious Japanese food at a reasonable price, which is hard to find in London! I thoroughly recommend the Jyu boxes (sashimi and rice, with miso soup on the side), the Geso-kara (insanely good value for what you get), the German roll and the Temaki (sushi hand rolls). They have a massive menu, which can be a red flag, but I haven’t found anything that disappointed me so far! I also enjoyed sitting by the bar and watching the chefs make my sushi fresh. Will be coming back again.

Busy at lunch but line moves fast, food is great, as are most Eat Tokyo chains. Good value for money, the portions are big and filling. Service downstairs can be a bit slow. It took quite while for our order to be taken and for it to be served, given how busy it gets, I suppose. Having said that I would still come back.

Authentic Japanese restaurant with a very good price/quality ratio. Fresh fish (sushi), big portions and quick order to table time. Once entered, you are greeted by all the staff members. They present you with a (too) big menu, in a rather old but cosy setting. Had already some random sushi roles (9.5/10) and a chefs menu (9.5/10) with Miso soup. I will definitely go back, reservation is a nice to have but not needed.

A bit of a disappointing experience, to be honest. It's a bit of strange restaurant - spread over several very small floors, the top (and largest) floor has no windows and feels a bit like a crowded cave. The menu is utterly bewildering (maybe this is normal for genuine Japanese restaurants). The food was _okay_ but honestly I've had better from local (non-London) restaurants. The service really wasn't great - they weren't unfriendly, but a bit brusque. One of our main ishes came nearly an hour after the others and they were (initially) completely unapologetic and said we couldn't cancel it, even though everyone else had finished their food. Vegetarian options are very limited. Vegetarians should beware, as several of the items marked with a 'V' actually contained fish. It's not a _bad_ place, but I wouldn't rush back.

I like this branch of Eat Tokyo (High Holborn). Previous visits were pleasant, 10/10 for food and service. This time, I do not know if she (the waitress) is a new staff or for whatever reason. My friend and I order two bento boxes, one plate of sashimi, and something else to share. When I was almost finished with my bento box (there were still some more in the box that I had not finished yet), I put a spoon of rice into my mouth, even chewing; the waitress was very quick to come and lift the box off the table. I said I was still eating. OK, she put it back and left. Then, the sashimi plate. I used chopsticks. When the last sashimi left the plate and was on the way to my mouth, the plate disappeared in a blink, again, by the same waitress. And the bento box one more time. I took the last spoon of rice and put the spoon back into the box; she was already next to me and very “polite”, asking me if I had finished the dish. I, with a full mouth of rice, of course, could not talk; my friend had to answer her for me, saying that yes, we had finished. 😅 There were 3 times, 3 TIMES in a visit. Hopefully, no one else has had the same experience.

Borderline traumatic: I was bundled into a dimly-lit basement and told to sit in the corner. Like a naughty school boy, I did. The waitress snaps at me to order and a bowl of the £12.50 ‘ramen’ miraculously appears on my table. Cheap and nasty. She scowled further, slamming a water bottle and glass down for effect. Comically unpleasant is an understatement. I fished around sporadically for the odd cuts of fatty pork, eventually spearing all 3 of them. Cost of living crisis is real. Mmmm. Minutes later and the unmistakable flavour of industrial-bred pig floods my palate. I pictured them sunbathing, trotters up, in some faraway abandoned parking lot. Still, I thought, at least those pigs aren’t stuck in some sweaty basement being stared down by an openly hostile waitress. #FreePiggy

I've dined here a few times for lunch. The quality of the food and the value you get is second to none. I usually go for the Katsu chicken bento box. The chicken is so crispy and it comes with Katsu dipping sauce. There's also rice and some tofu (see photos). If that wasn't enough miso soup is included with the meal. All this for £10 as of the time of this review. The atmosphere is great and the staff are so polite. They say goodbye to every customer in Japanese.

Discovered a gem in London - Eats Tokyo offers an authentic Japanese dining experience with exceptional service. The attention to detail here is remarkable. One standout moment was when a waitress quietly replaced dropped chopsticks without any fuss - the kind of subtle, attentive service that defines true hospitality. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere transported us straight to Japan. While most of the wait staff aren't Japanese, they maintain high service standards, and having a Japanese chef adds to the authenticity. It was particularly special to be able to converse with the chef in Japanese, adding a personal touch to our evening. The combination of outstanding service, great food, and genuine attention to detail makes Eats Tokyo a must-visit. Perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. The restaurant truly understands the essence of Japanese hospitality - it's in the small, thoughtful gestures that make a dining experience memorable.

Alright, Eat Tokyo is an absolute must try The food is amazing, the staff and the chief, Lin, are of amazing people. In my recent trip to London, I went there a couple of times and a friend of mine who lived close to the restaurant suggested it. We had so many different foods and each was better than the other. And, the prices are really reasonable, perhaps, cheap for the quality of food and services you get. One thing to keep in mind is that this restaurant does not have the best space, always try to reserve a table in advance and aim for the tables right when you enter the restaurant. I am just going to drop all the pictures I took when I visited. And, a picture of me and the chief too! He is so funny! I specifically loved: Buta Yakiniku Bento

Well, to start off, this place is amazing value for money. It is cheap authentic and tasty Japanese food. A slice of Japan in London where the food is pretty boring in England. There were some issues, like the drink was not Japanese, but bought in an Arab country as the language was Arab. The green tea pot, leaked when poured and the amount of oil in the bottom of the bento box was a LOT which was sad really. Although it is a cheap and lovely place to eat but still has some issues. Let’s be real, it’s the best you’re going to get in England but not as good as the real deal.

The overall experience was dampened by the fact that it felt that we were rushed as soon as we sat down. They kept asking if everything was okay but it didn’t feel as if they wanted to help. Instead they just rushed the food out and cleared our plates before we finished. We continued to have a chat and constantly interrupted our conversation. In the end we just decided to leave. The food was decent and the spacing is quite small so the atmosphere was not able to be more of a wholesome vibe.

Eat Tokyo in Holborn is a popular spot for authentic Japanese cuisine in the heart of London. Known for its extensive menu and affordable prices, it’s a go-to destination for sushi lovers, ramen enthusiasts, and anyone craving traditional Japanese flavors. This bustling restaurant offers a casual dining experience that’s perfect for both quick lunches and more leisurely dinners with friends or family. The menu at Eat Tokyo is impressively broad, with a wide range of sushi, sashimi, donburi, and noodle dishes. Each dish is carefully crafted, and the freshness of the ingredients is evident in every bite. The sushi, in particular, is a standout, with generous portions and beautifully prepared fish that rivals some of the more upscale sushi spots in the city. Their sushi rolls and nigiri come in a variety of options, from the classic salmon and tuna to more creative rolls that add a twist to traditional flavors. Additionally, their bento boxes are a great way to sample a little of everything, offering a well-balanced meal that includes sushi, tempura, and other classic Japanese bites. Ramen and udon lovers will also find plenty to enjoy. The ramen is rich and flavorful, with a broth that’s simmered to perfection and paired with tender noodles and a choice of toppings. Whether you go for the spicy miso or the classic tonkotsu, each bowl is satisfying and hearty, perfect for colder days. The udon dishes are equally delightful, featuring thick, chewy noodles in a comforting broth that brings out the umami flavors beautifully. Beyond the food, the ambiance at Eat Tokyo is vibrant and bustling, reflecting its popularity. The interior is simple and straightforward, but it works well for the restaurant’s casual style. There’s a strong sense of authenticity here, which makes you feel like you’re stepping into a local eatery in Tokyo. The open kitchen is a nice touch, allowing diners to watch the chefs at work and adding to the lively atmosphere. Service is prompt and efficient, though it can get quite busy during peak hours, so it’s worth booking a table in advance if you’re visiting during lunch or dinner rush. One of the best things about Eat Tokyo is its value for money. For the quality and portion sizes offered, the prices are very reasonable, making it accessible to both students and professionals in the area. It’s rare to find Japanese restaurants in central London that combine quality with affordability, but Eat Tokyo manages to strike that balance perfectly. In terms of drinks, they offer a selection of Japanese beers, sake, and teas that complement the meal well. The sake menu includes a few interesting options that are worth trying, especially if you’re looking to explore traditional Japanese beverages. For those who prefer non-alcoholic options, the green tea is a refreshing choice that pairs nicely with the flavors of the meal. Overall, Eat Tokyo in Holborn is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine without breaking the bank. Its extensive menu, high-quality ingredients, and affordable prices make it a standout in London’s Japanese dining scene. Whether you’re a sushi connoisseur or a ramen enthusiast, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. With its convenient location and consistently excellent food, Eat Tokyo is a place you’ll want to visit again and again. Highly recommended for anyone in the area or willing to travel for a great Japanese meal.

During my stay in London, I was searching for an authentic Japanese culinary experience, and I found exactly that at Eat Tokyo in High Holborn. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by experienced sushi masters, and the atmosphere, along with the décor, instantly transports you to Japan. The menu is impressive, offering a wide variety of options - from sushi, ramen, and bento boxes to tonkatsu and bowls. I ordered nigiri with salmon, eel, and tuna, which were incredibly delicate and flavorful. Accompanied by uramaki (salmon and tuna) and futomaki with shrimp, the meal was perfectly rounded off with mochi for dessert, in mango and matcha flavours. A unique touch was the grapefruit lemonade with a splash of alcohol, which you can customize by adding fresh grapefruit yourself. The staff were friendly and attentive, making my experience even better. Eat Tokyo is a place that combines excellent food with an authentic Japanese atmosphere. I did not dine in at the restaurant this time, but I have eaten there a few times before and know what to expect. However, I decided to order through UberEats on this occasion, and what I received for £62 was quite surprising. For the Otoro sashimi, I was expecting at least four pieces, as that's what I typically receive when dining in but I got 3 as you can see in the photo. Additionally, I paid £28 for Uni, but what I received was disappointing only 3 pieces,As you can see from the photo, the quantity and quality are shockingly inadequate. Do you think the price is reasonable? Why is the portion size not the same as when dining in, even though the price remains the same? When I dine in, I receive more for the same price. If the portions are reduced for delivery orders, shouldn't the price be adjusted accordingly?

Crazy bargain and delicious Japanese food here in London. I go at least 3x/month. Dropped point on atmosphere due to cramped space and sometimes unbearable heat as more dinners fill up. I see the AC unit. Make it cooler!! Also, service charge non discretionary. Probably the only place I have ever dined that has this policy.

Beyond expectation, the fish is so fresh. And it’s quite a big bowl. The Miso soup is so taste, I like it.

This was my first visit in the Holborn branch. As always, the food does not disappoint. The venue could have been much better presented, but the reasonable price and quality of food makes up for it. It’s a great place for quality and decent quality of Japanese food.

I recently visited "EAT TOKYO" in Holborn and had an exceptional dining experience. I started with the chicken and salmon teriyaki bento box, which offered a perfect balance of savory teriyaki flavors and tender, juicy meat. The miso soup was a comforting prelude, rich with umami and just the right amount of tofu and seaweed. The fried squid legs were delightfully crispy without being overly greasy, and the fried chicken was a standout with its juicy interior and perfectly seasoned crispy exterior. The crispy soft shell crab sushi and Chef Lin's special sushi were both highlights, showcasing fresh ingredients and expertly crafted rolls. For dessert, the strawberry cheesecake mochi was a refreshing finish, with a creamy, strawberry-infused filling encased in chewy mochi. The ambiance of EAT TOKYO was cozy and inviting, making it a fantastic spot for enjoying authentic Japanese cuisine in the heart of London. The floor manager and all the staff were very friendly and suggestive, offering excellent recommendations. The menu was impressively large, providing a wide array of options at amazing and affordable prices. The best part is, you can dine at a sushi bar for the most pocket friendly prices!

Quite a small place down the street from Premier Inn Holborn. There is usually a small line at the entrance. We stood for 3 minutes and went in. The dishes are amazing. The fish is fresh and there is a huge selection of Japanese dishes and the prices are good. It's a shame we only arrived on the last day. Highly recommended.

Lovely food and good service. Often busy and crowded, so maybe rock up sometime before 6ish for dinner. 👍

Not very good dining experience. The sushi chef called whoever’s on the phone stupid in Japanese, they’re not even loud. If he doesn’t like people talking, he could have told them, instead of calling them stupid. Food was good though.

Terrible service. The staff refused to remove the service charge, despite it being an optional payment. I don’t believe it’s fair to pay for a service that was not provided. The communication was rude and unprofessional — I wasn’t even allowed to sit at the table. I would not recommend this place.

Sushi made daily, a few times a day to provide fresh food to the customer, hot items are made by order so that makes it even more tasty as it's done for you. They have lots of snacks which are actually not that bad as they are healthy versions with low calories! The shop can be packed at times, mostly during the lunch hours but getting your favourite flavours isn't a problem as it's so quick to order and receive things. It's kind of a self-service restaurant as there are some machines to help you go through your order but if you don't know how to operate it I always find that the staff members are very polite and ready to step in whenever they need. I think Wojciech and Sabina are the people who work mostly on the shop floor and two of them always bring joy to the experience as it's not just pay to eat and go they have time to have a chat with you, laugh with you. Itsu itself comes across as a friendly spot to dine in with as any of the workers are so amazing and kind to access the shops but we all are having our own favourite locations and the Brunswick Centre one is highly recommended!
