Delicious, fresh, local take away sushi

Sushi Hana Cafe is one to avoid !! Bland brown rice with cold curry sauce, small portions, lack of communication with the unfriendly staffs. Extremely overpriced bill. They charge me an extra £2 on ever dish for sitting in to eat (I was not told about this when I ordered or was it printed on the menu) which I find extremely absurd. I'm very surprised for a small take-away cafe to charge 12.5% service charge - is not fine dining is it? My bill for one person for lunch was £34 just for a small lunch badly prepared n cooked. Very unsatisfied. One has to be very careful with this Sushi Hana Cafe as is hygiene is rated 2/5. The Hygiene Rating sticker should be clearly shown on their window or door.

Actually the best Japanese food we have found since being in Japan - udon and donburi are a must!!!

In general, sushi is okayish, definitely better than you can get from Tesco, but far worse than you can expect for this price. Sushi was poorly rolled, rice and salmon are nothing special. You can find much much better sushi in the authentic places for this price. Or just get the same quality for almost half the price from M&S.

I ordered in from Deliveroo the beef udon and my body ascended to the sky. It was worth getting the concussion and minor bone fractures that I sustained from my fall back down to earth once the bowl was gone. 14/10 Yummers.

Not worth the price. The sushi didn’t taste fresh but priced very high. The other dish we ordered was supposed to be a main dish but the amount was tiny. For example, the beef donburi has max 20g of beef on top of some rice, are you kidding lol. We had to go to another restaurant afterwards. Another thing to notice is that they charge extra for each dish you eat in, and in addition to that, you need to pay service charge as well. They don’t even tell you this. This is the worst Japanese restaurant I’ve ever been to.

Quiet, authentic Japanese restaurant. Slightly pricier, but definitely worth the quality of the fresh sourced salmon dish.

Really delightful and authentic sushi in the hearts of Hampstead, just a minute walk from the station! The ingredients are super fresh and seared salmon belly & seared scallop are very delicious. The miso soup is great too! Easily one of the best Japanese food in London :) Brown rice version is available as well - really healthy!

Its half retail shop and half restaurant with bar tables and takeaway. There are some tables outside too. We ordered. Tofu curry with brown rice (13.5+1.5 for brown rice) and a chirashi bowl (18.8) slices of fish is much smaller than other restaurants and less variety. The taste is average and probably prices are affected by the area. Portions could be bigger. Service charge of 12.5%

Took our son for a treat, truly awful experience. The manager made it very clear from the start that she was not happy for us to dine there... try convincing a 7 year old that we should go else where when hungry. Food was sub par. Will not be gracing this establishment again

They made a gluten free sashimi bowl for me. Rice was still slightly warm and so fresh. Gluten free soy also available!

Extremely average sushi for above average prices, would not go back. My partner got his teriyaki salmon don about 20 minutes before I got my food and in the meantime about 10 takeaway and Deliveroo customers were served while I was waiting sitting at their outdoor tables in the cold. Give this restaurant a miss.

Cute place in the hood; average yet solid option for a local joint

The sushi is decent. However the restaurant has a 2/5 health rating and isn’t disclosing that (I believe showing this is done on a voluntary basis in England); I only found that out after eating there and was surprised. They should let their customers know about the rating so that they can make an informed decision about eating there. For a business that handles raw fish this worries me, and I will refrain from eating there until they improve on this.

Very tasty soup, shame my partner had to wait for a simple Udon about 25 min, while I got mine almost 10 min earlier. By the time she got hers mine was lukewarm at best. (There was almost nobody else so it's not like it was rush hour). Once again, great shame as this could have easily been a 5 star review.

Mediocre quality. Ordered three different rolls as take away from deliveroo just to try as an alternative to my usual sushi place. Quality was not good. I would not order again.

Average quality sushi. It was okay for a takeout but cant say I loved it. The ingredients were fresh, just not that tasty somehow. I liked their miso soup though.

Decent though not the best sushi. Don't roll up here expecting good service. I had to wait half an hour for five pieces of sushi while they prioritised Deliveroo orders. Then they charged me service, which I refused to pay as they offered none. Had I not complained, I would have waited longer outside in the cold. The worst thing is they seemed to think their one in-restaurant customer should wait for all the Deliveroo orders to be filled first.

Lovely!! Haven’t had kitsune udon since I was in Japan. It was very tasty 😊

I passed by and decided to get some sushi today. I opted for the salmon set menu. As advertised in the store and on their website - it is £15 including miso soup. The lady originally tried to charge me £18. When I questioned it, she changed the charge after consulting with someone, who may have been the manager. However to my surprise I was charged £16.50, which I only realised when I left the shop! This was a strange experience. Sushi was tasty, but despite being a local and liking sushi, I won’t be back. This put me off for good.

Have come here several times and the sushi has always been tasty. The lady who serves us is polite and friendly. Portion sizes aren’t big (8rolls of maki) so we need to buy two boxes each whenever we come. Nice local sushi place and better than the competition on the high street.

Petite shop in a busy alley. Mostly geared towards takeaways. Only 2 small tables and 4 chairs outside the shop. Had assorted sushi and miso soup, ingredients are fresh and tasty...almost Tokyo standard. Highly recommended as long as you don't mind waiting for your table.

Genuine japanese sushi. Quite expensive but had likely one of the best udons. The place is not very well-suited for dine in and seems to be better catered for takeaway and delivery, staff is nonetheless kind and well mannered. You're likely to spend around 30-40£ if you want to have a full meal, but it's going to be a very good one at that.

I usually get the sushi at Atari Ya around the corner from where I live but a few weeks ago I was in Hampstead and bought sushi in Sushi Hana at it was delicious. Today I went to get some more and it is really good quality and fresh and really the same price as any other sushi place. Super happy !

I’m a regular take away client here and so far (10 or so orders) - the best take away sushi I have had in NW London. We had our sushi made to order every time and you could tell, quality ingredients that were well put together. Pricey but for a good reason and worth it. If you want to knock down the price a bit from the Deliveroo grand total, order directly via phone and come collect with a bike or on foot if local.

I ordered from deliveroo and ordered some sea urchin nigiri, but the sea urchin was not very fresh, it was very slimy and had a bitter after taste which is a sign of going bad. At £8.20 each you would expect it to be fresher.. Overall alright sushi, but very highly priced.

The food here was very nice. But wish the price could come down a bit or at least offer some deals. I will revisit when back.

We had often walked past the restaurant, and due to lock-down decided to have a delivery. Very helpful staff, and ordered starters and main courses. This arrived promptly, although could have been a little warmer, but what do you expect from delivery services. Food was presented well and tasted even better, good quality ingredients and good portion size. However that evening on checking "Scores on the doors" - Food Hygiene Rating- by the London Borough of Camden - that was recorded on 2/11/2020- the Hygiene rating was very poor and not what I would expect from any restaurant. This has made us think twice about ordering and eating food again from here- its the most important aspect of eating-out/or delivery.. I look forward to you getting a better rating- it's what customers demand and require. Thank you.

Good for a local takeaway sushi bar

Ordered via Deliveroo, delivered on time. Sushi was tasty but for the price I would expect the pieces to be practically perfect, not falling apart and two of the pieces being the "end bits" with hardly any fish and about half the size of the other pieces. My partner's salmon donburi was tasty but an absolutely tiny portion for the cost of £14.

Tried to order from Deliveroo. Waited an hour, then got a phone call to say they had screwed up the order and it would take another 90 minutes. Useless. Will not being making the same mistake twice.

The food is incredible, despite being a bit pricey it’s absolutely worth it for its quality. When it’s packed waiting times can be lengthy but this is to be expected.

So far the best take away sushi I have had in London. We had our meal made to order and you could tell, quality ingredients that were well put together. Pricey but for a good reason and worth it.

The sushi is delicious, it’s a real art the way some of the specials are presented. Staff are always very friendly and welcoming. The shop is spotlessly clean. There are only a few seats inside and out so it’s really more of a takeaway.

I have lived in Hampstead for 25 years and know all the restaurants very well. This is the best. I have been about a dozen times and they have never disappointed. The restaurant is small but everything else about it is fantastic. The food is superb - always very fresh and some creative contemporary versions of classic dishes. The Chirashi Donburi (pictured) is wonderful. The staff are very charming and always so welcoming. I am surprised by a couple of the negative reviews below and somewhat suspicious since they have been copied from other review sites and are from newly opened accounts with only one review to their name.

We had delicious and very fresh sushi at this small authentic Japanese eatery. The set meals are good value for the high quality of the food. We were served by the owner who was charming and helpful. The location is away from the busy Hampstead roads in a pedestrian-only historic narrow lane with a selection of interesting small shops. We were lucky to visit on a sunny day and were able to enjoy our lunch sitting at an outside table.

We went to the restaurant yesterday and ordered brown rice sushi, one vegetarian avocado and one salmon avocado. The lady who took our order first said to us in English she is not sure if they have any brown rice left. She called to the chef and spoke to him in Japanese and asked about it. The conversation there wasn’t much brown rice left and it also wasn’t cooked, the chef said he can mix the brown and white rice together and we won’t notice. I guess being two English girls they assumed we wouldn’t understand Japanese. They said our brown rice sushi needed to be cooked and would be ready in 20mins. We explained that we appreciate that they are taking the time to cook the brown rice as we both don’t tolerate white rice well. She smiled and said okay but we weren’t convinced. We came back and received our sushi and they didn’t say they mixed in the white rice but you could clearly see that they did. If they were just honest and said “sorry we don’t have much brown rice left but we can do a mix” that would have been received much better than saying something different in Japanese and lie to us in English, thinking we would not know the difference. I wouldn’t recommend coming here on that basis. The sushi was okay, but don’t expect to have brown rice sushi if you request it .

Food pretty good. The let down was how long I waited and the staff weren’t that bothered about customer service. I was told to wait 10 mins but waited 30 mins. Could have offered something like a miso soup to keep customers happy.

This is a good small sushi counter cafe in Hampstead. There is space at the bar for four people, and another four good sit behind you facing the wall, which I think is less good. But the staff are very friendly and the quality of sashimi and sushi is very good. If it were less expensive it would get four stars in my opinion: it feels about 15% too pricey.

This is a place for people who don’t know how authentic Japanese sushi is like. They use microwave to cook hot food. At the sushi bar, the sushi chief used the same piece of rag to wipe everything and he wears a ring when making sushi. They don’t seem to know how to deal with raw food in a professional way. It’s like a family restaurant that they are making very low quality sushi at a home kitchen. It’s a place you can go if you just want quick sushi takeaway and don’t know much about Japanese food. Or maybe don’t sit by the sushi bar, then you will not realise the low quality of their food and cooking hygiene.

Sorry if I look tough in my review but I do have tried many times and as a half japanese, i don't feel it is that good. I find cheaper ones in Belsize park in Budgens and there is no difference. I remembered that once we ordered a huge plateau sushis for a dinner with friends we were really disappointed... And also one thing, the staff is not nice, they are very cold and not friendly... I wont recommend and especially at this price...

Delicious Donburi served quicky! I was in a rush and had only 30 mins to eat, and the staff was polite and efficient. Good location in the heart of Hampstead and you can grab ice cream for a dessert from the place across the street. The only criticism would be that it’s too small. The seats are not very comfortable and it’s just too tight to fully enjoy anything else than a quick lunch.

I felt I was in Japan in this tine restaurant. The fish was absolutely amazing, we order The chef chosen of the day and has no words to describe how delicious it was. Indeed want to come back soon.

The sushi is really excellent quality for the price here. My only criticism is that the ambiance in the restaurant is not so good - the lighting is very bright and there are water stains on the walls. But in terms of the food quality its really the best I've had in NW3.

Best nigiri in London. Very fresh fish. We've been in Tsukiji Market in Japan and our experience of the freshness was the same here. So great to come after Hampstead Heath park for a bowl of hot udon.

If it was a little bigger inside it would be 5 stars. Unless I missed upstairs seating then it’s a small restaurant but the service, freshness of fish and our experience was all great. We sat outside on a lovely day but again there’s only two tables. I imagine they do a lot of take out orders? Staff very polite. You can see the sushi been prepped which I think is important when it’s fresh ingredients. We would go back

Came here for lunch. Had a mixture of rolls, udon and seared nigiri. Fish was fresh and food generally yummy. Great place for quick lunch in Hampstead .
