Yi Ban Chinese Restaurant in Hillingdon

Please don’t bother! We walked into a virtually empty restaurant (know I now why), with 80s/90s decor, but a warm welcome from the seemingly one staff member (I’m feeling uneasy already at this point). Drinks were served from a large 2l bottle (which I haven’t seen in some time), but thankfully not flat. Tsing Tao beer was unfortunately flat and upon further inspection, out of date! Dim Sum were a thick glutinous mess (I mean, really bad), and the crispy duck was hard/dusty. When we questioned the staff they readily admitted that everything was frozen (the duck had apparently been shredded, frozen, and re/heated - just not acceptable). NO APOLOGY offered, discount, just a reluctant ‘we’ll take it on board’. Another staff member appeared and we asked if they were the Manager - they virtually ran away from the table and said they were ‘just helping out’. Rest assured we didn’t stay for mains but left will a £100+ bill for 5 frozen starters and an out of date beer! Was all made better by visiting the wonderful Real Love Lounge in Ruislip Manor - fresh food made with love and care! With so many great restaurants around, please don’t spend your money here!

Take this from a Chinese person, this is the best Chinese restaurant in the UK. The dim sum, the small dishes, the noodles, the rice, everything is on point. It takes me back to the time when I grew up around these kinds of places. Gathering with family and so on.

Really lovely staff and hot food. It was ok but unfortunately, not authentic or at least did not taste like the usual Chinese food for the most part.

First and last visit here. Lovely decor and really liked the spaciousness of this restaurant. Friendly and attentive customer service. Cater for vegans and gluten-free diets. But food was a real let down. The bok choy starter was amazing but the vegetarian Singapore fried noodles and beancurd in ginger and spring onion were both disappointing. The beancurd was hard and chewy and the sauce didn't taste great and the dish was bland. At one point with the noodles it tasted like there had been some contamination with some non-veg food. Had been wanting to try this place, so I'm glad I did but wouldn't go back. Impressive that they do Thai dishes as well though.

Nice meal relaxed atmosphere efficient service

Nice food but this place always freezing cold! Needs a bit more atmosphere too. Maybe tealights on the table or flowers.

My kids love eating here. As they've grown their food choices have become more varied but Yi Ban always hits the spot.

Nice starters Pleasant staff However the food wasn’t great. We had a chicken dish that was fatty. We also had a sizzling beef that didn’t sizzle and tasted like no beef I’ve ever eaten - felt processed. Also had a lamb dish that was the same. In fact we had to ask which was which as you couldn’t tell by taste.

We hadn't been to Yi Ban for a long time but decided to take friends there for an evening meal. We all chose the Adventura menu. Wow it was amazing. First mixed hors d'oeuvres, then soup, followed by crispy duck and pancakes. We were quite full by now but THEN came our main courses. You can choose as much as you like. Desserts were extra and well worth the money. Staff were friendly and polite. Restaurant was clean and had a nice atmosphere. Would go back again.

We had a lovely night at Yi Ban this Saturday night. The restaurant was pretty full, the food was good with lots of choice of Chinese and Thai dishes on the menu. We note that people have commented about poor service but this was not the case for us; service was very good. The portions were big. Warmer plates would have been nice. I would go back again. Oh, and table has a lazy susan - so retro, but we like!

Great food but terrible service! Felt very rushed and pressurised, therefore couldn’t enjoy what would have been a nice evening out with friends!

We have been a regular at this place for quite some time now. Definitely post Covid we have been fairly regular. We have had the worse experience in terms of service for the past couple of times now especially today. They rushed us so much to the extent that we felt a bit awkward with our guest whom we had recommended this place and so had booked a table for dinner with them. Literally kept coming up and asking..ready to order, ready for main course, are you done with food. Came at least twice in space of 1 minute to ask if we have finished and we were still having the last bits of our main course. Awful service. I have never seen such rushed service anywhere. It’s fair to say the kitchen closes at this time so our last orders is at this time but to rush the customers who are having dinner is just awful. Suffice to say will never be going back or recommending this place to anyone.

Super delicious food, I ordered lamb and chicken dishes and shrimp as starter, all items were really delicious 😋. I wondered how come I missed this restaurant in eastcote high Street. I would rate it the best restaurant on eastcote high Street. I ordered beverage as wel, nothing was costly and all food items were tasty 🤤.

Came here as a group of 15 people (pre-booked) for a family members’ birthday. We were sat at two different tables which was a little annoying, but it’s quite a small restaurant, so we understood. From the outset staff appeared harried. There was absolutely no catering or thought to children whatsoever: no kids menu, no kids sizes, not even plastic glasses. 8 adults ordered the “adventurer” menu and the rest of us ordered from the a la carte menu. They do chicken balls, but you’ll have to guess the price as these aren’t on the menu. If you want to swap your dip, they’ll charge you but won’t tell you. What was most ridiculous was the 5 plate limit for the adventurer menu. This limit means that even if there are 8 of you on the same table, they will only bring out 5 dishes at a time. Not even one per person, which is pretty ridiculous. The service was incredibly slow and quite honestly rude.

Plenty of choice for Chinese food, set meals or 'eat as much ' options. Choice of drinks, alcoholic or soft drinks, and desert menu.

I ate at Yi Ban early evening today, with my son and his girlfriend. We had just come from a stressful meeting, and had not had lunch. We are veteran Chinese food eaters. The quality was fantastic, as good as some of the best Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. Good service. The set meals were a bit complicated, because of the sheer volume of choices. The food is a little bit pricey, probably because cutlery, and the containers the food was presented in was upmarket. Nice service. My only complaint? They are too far away for a delivery. There should be a branch near me!

Was delicious and amazing service

This place is new to us and we have ordered twice for delivery. People are really polite and friendly. Overall the food has been great and we would go there for a meal. The only dish we haven't enjoyed were the chilli chicken as it was just covered in dry red chilli and chicken in black bean...chicken was a bit slimy and I wish the mock duck was the thin bean curd one that tai pan do which is delicious. Soup, seaweed, prawns in salt and pepper, tofu salt and pepper, spring rolls, Singapore noodles, chow mein, rice and Prawn crackers all great.

Friday early evening visit, they accepted a last minute booking and did a very decent job. Food was good, service was with a smile and efficient, seating was comfortable and overall the experience was good. Nothing out of the ordinary and nothing to go crazy about but would happily go back and try out some different dishes.

After long time I have visited a nice Chinese Restaurant, thanks to my local friends. Very tasty food and service. Love to vist again with my family and friends

Haven’t been recently but from what I remember the food was fresh and tasty . Chicken in black bean sauce was in bite size pieces and egg fried rice is so good They have perfect soy sauce too !!

The food was alright, it was not the best but not bad, the reason why I’m giving a one star is because of the terrible, rude service, it was so slow - it took about 10 minutes for them to bring chilly oil! I also had to call them a few times for serviettes, as each time, they only brought one. Later, when trying to get the attention of the manager for a few drinks, he then gave a dirty look and aggressively pointed to the phone which he was holding to his ear! How unbelievable! Not to also mention that it was a Friday night and there were only 3 waiters in total. The bill then arrived and had a 10% service charge, which we politely asked for that to be taken off; to which the waitress said, “well if you want to call us every two seconds, you have to wait.” The manager then comes up to our table and said with attitude, “well that’s your choice, you must have called us about…20 times?” I am appalled with the service and how disrespectful the staff were, when going to a restaurant, you are not just paying for food, but a service, and it is the staffs job to assist you and make sure you have a good experience - and not complain about how many times we have to call them. If the service was good in the first place, one wouldn’t have to keep calling them over something basic like serviettes!

We arrived without a booking, luckily we got a table. Food good, staff attentive and very busy. Parking available outside. Friendly staff. Would go again.

Our favourite restaurant in Eastcote.

Been here on Sunday for dinner, I had hight expectations looking at the reviews. The food was terrible, fish was not fresh and with a funny taste, same for spring rolls and the rest of the food, spent about 35£ per person and no one liked the food, a 1£ ready meal would taste better than that. There are much better Chinese restaurants around. Service was ok though.

We were very disappointed today by their service. Our starters and drinks were ordered as soon as we were able to and they came in good time. However, after that we were waiting for nearly an hour for our main meal to be brought. When we checked, they said that it was not ready yet. At this point, we decided to cancel the order for the main meal, pay for the starters and drinks, and then leave. While this was being done, there was no apology for the length of time it was taking or just a sorry in general.

This was the best Chinese food I’ve had in Britain, no two ways about it! Can you believe how much I was in heaven with the Dim Sum?! Exactly.

This restaurant was recommended to us by our friends as a last minute booking. The reception was welcoming and attentive. Our drinks order was taken quickly, then the menu was explained to us, ie The Adventure option. We looked and weighed it up and decided to give it a try. We started with the mixed starters , plus a couple of others. This was repeated ( we love the variety of starters), followed by the duck pancakes- loads of it. After a small break we ordered our main courses, and I can honestly say what a great quality of food. We all polished it off with banana fritters and ice cream ( shared a portion as we were all very full). We will certainly go again. Thanks and well done.

Ordered a Chinese on 12th August, spent over £50 on food that was poor to say the least, to the point where my sister had food poisoning. Sweet and Sour Chicken has too much sour and not a great blend of both sweet and sour, BBQ Spare ribs were nice though, although for 4 small ribs £6.30, this meal can be an expensive so called 'treat', if it justifies as being a treat.

Excellent Chinese meal. Great Customer Service. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant if you want to have a good Chinese Meal and an enjoyable evening. Will be back soon.

Responding to the response to my wife's (Nataliya's) comment below. You accepted our online booking where we requested window seat and you didn't message us to say not available. In fact, the window seat wasn't the big issue, it is the way and tone by which you spoke to us and, in fact, we felt unwelcome from the very beginning. You could have easily smoothed over the situation by apologising and we would have sat elsewhere without fuss but no apology was forthcoming . It was your ATTITUDE that made the difference and you must have learned your customer service skills from the Basil Faulty School of Customer Service. Do you want to continue this debate for a further 1 star ?

Booked table online, for a special occasion, requested online to sit by the window. Turned to Yi Ban in Eastcote, turned down the request in very rude manner, and suggested by the Manager to leave, if not happy. We followed his advice, as a place like this deserve no business. First time, last time. No manners, no customer service approach. He missed out on at least £100 spend.

Fabulous food, sublime service and excellent environment. Nothing too much trouble. My daughters teen and pre'teen, loves everything. Now our top Chinese restaurant. Highly recommended for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Simply FABULOUS.

Lovely food and very covid safe

Food came out late but worth the wait, excellent food nice and tasty and good size portions. Staff friendly and a good set up with the distancing.

I had the most fantastic take away last night at Yi Ban. It was my first visit and will now become a regular as good quality food is so hard to find these days. Price is a little above average but considering i ordered steamed sea bass with ginger, chillie and onions, spicy dry bean curd and steamed rice, the sea bass was so fresh and is never cheap to buy anywhere anyway. What really sold Yi Ban to me was how tasty the food was, using spices and fresh ingredients and the fact that the food was so healthy with minimal oil. I love Thai food and have travelled there many times and the food here really is comparable to a good Thai restaurant albeit a combination of Chinese and Thai cuisine. I reccomend trying here even if you are looking for an exclusively Thai restaurant as the reviews on local ones in this area are very varied.

Okay..about our experience: 1) Firstly, we saw staff hiding at the back of the restaurant behind, despite the restaurant being open. Being involved in the restaurant industry, this is normally because they are 'illegals'. I have only just reported this despite it being many months later, to the police and they have said they will investigate. 2) So, despite the the restaurant being open, there was a look of worry/uncertainty on the faces of the very few staff inside. I think they knew about immigration investigators being around. 3) Once the panic/worry was over, we ordered. Service was good. The food however was disgusting. Oily, bland. Generally a mess. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

Never had a meal in or take away.

Racist manager. Sat us in the 'walkway' of the restaurant and said all other tables were already booked but were empty at time of our booking. A caucasian couple came in after us with no booking and were sat in a cosy corner which we requested but were refused. Food was substandard. I wouldn't bother, plenty of other non racist restaurants that treat their customers with more respect.

Crispy beef chilli and prawn stir fried noodles were no good. Idk if they were having an off day, but they did make it suspiciously fast (like 6 minutes tops). Beef was soggy and and the noodles didn't taste seasoned. Not going back.

Excellent food, freshly cooked, not oily, it was a pleasure to dine there. Staff very helpful and pleasant, prices reasonable. I wish I had discovered them earlier!

Food is awful. Small portion sizes and bland..Disappointing for a night in. I also suspect they hire illegals, as at opening time, the restaurant was not open and there was staff hiding in the alleyway behind the restaurant

we love this place. my kids always ask to go to this restaurant, for a special treat, as well they love the food!! and tonight we went without the kids and as always... food perfect.. lovely atmosphere and the aervice excellent.. as always! thank you!!!

Went for a quick light meal. My wife ordered chicken with cashew nuts and carrots. She thought the chicken wasn't proper chicken. It was jelloid and extremely soft in texture. I enjoyed my lamb with spring onion and ginger. Rapid service, with very patient staff. Wil return again probably, but will not be ordering chicken.

Really great for vegan Chinese options

Second Rate restaurant, I won't grace it with the word Chinese because there is no one there of Chinese heritage.The food is tasteless and expensive.I had never been there before,I ordered a takeaway and it ended up in the bin .A supermarket Chinese ready meal would have been more authentic and certainly more tasty. The hunt continues to find a real Chinese restaurant in the Harrow area.

Orded the mock duck at 8.50 the container came with a very thin layer on the bottom of container, a quarter full, for that price I'd expect a larger serving. Called them to complain, they said, well thats how it comes. Reviewed other comments and again, looks like other people have questioned portion size. Needless to say they've lost another customer.

My go to Chinese take away for the Pinner and Eastcote area. I recommend set menu A. It is normally incredibly filling especially if you're getting the free egg fried rice on the side. Friendly customer service and decently quick delivery times.

Poor portion sizes. Got home and satay sauce at £2 is less than half full. Seriously. What's going on? Won't be going back there again

There is free parking available from 6:30pm. Very neat and airy eating space. Very very nice meal, lots of variety. Set meals and all you can eat meals. Staff are great. I recommend.

Really good restaurant. Normally go in to eat with my Dad. This visit was for Vegetable Spring Rolls take away. My favourite benchmark of a quality Chinese restaurant: get those right, and you'll not be disappointed for the rest of the menu. They are perfectly mouthwatering!!

Such lovely and attentive service

I hate plastic chicken, it's a sign of very poor quality foods being used. If you don't know what plastic chicken is look it up, if you can't tell the difference god help you. Apart from that I think the taste was ok nothing great. We had a takeaway...maybe eating in is different, they get good reviews otherwise.

Highly reccomend, I got a takeaway from here last night and everything tasted amazing. I have allergies to gluten and they were extremely helpful and knowledgeable and they can do plenty of gluten free options which is very rare to find. So happy to find a local Chinese that does gluten free. Will deff be my new Chinese. Restaurant looks lovely and cosy too.

Great food, efficient service with a smile.

Take-away of set menus 2 and 3 which was more than enough for 4 people so had left overs again another night. The quality and range was really good and they were happy to swap the aromatic duck for mock duck and swap other dishes to make them more vegetarian friendly. The eat in experience is also good, they have a nice decor.

Our go to chinese for the past 8 years. Whenever we find a good chinese it changes hands, or the food quality goes down hill! The food is fresh and the taste consistent. We've always had really good service and go 3-4 times per year, even though we no longer live in the area.
