The food was really good, I must say, and they did a good job of making sure there was enough food to cover everyone. The rating is because of the execution. I'd eat here again as a smaller party. We were a large group and I called ahead to check if that would be ok and was reassured that they could cater for big groups. I called on behalf of someone in our party and was told twice that the football would be on in the tap room, it wasn't and we were told that they tried to call back but didn't have a number (despite having my booking?) Then we arrived and the table was set for about half the number of people so we had to reshuffle the adjacent tables and collect our own chairs. The staff were nice and tried to be helpful but it seemed as though something got lost in communication during the booking process and/or set up which made for a somewhat stressful arrival with 4 hungry children and a new born (also information I gave on booking).

Our lovely neighbours have just treated us to a carvery dinner in this lovely traditional pub. I am not a fan of carvery, but am delighted to have had my opinion changed. The meat and vegetables were fresh, the beef was to die for! The staff come and get you when it's your tables turn to get your meal, which avoids all the awful queuing and shoving that you get at a chain carvery. Absolutely everything was piping hot and fresh. The staff were wonderful, very accommodating and helpful. And the sticky toffee pudding and custard was absolute perfection, the custard tasted just like my grandad's home made concoction and gave me all the warm fuzzy feelings of a family Sunday roast. The pub is dog friendly, and you can even buy a dog friendly carvery for your furry friend with all proceeds going to the Yorkshire rescue. I will absolutely be coming here again!

Sunday lunch. Beef. Turkey. Ham. Perfect melt in your mouth. Lots of gravy Veg a little too hard for me Lots of choices. Perfect Yorkshire puddings. Doggie friendly + doggie lunch bowls. The atmosphere was a little dull, No music and only 3 tables with people on them so very quite. Can I just say this pub needs a good cleaner, I have been a few times now and it never looks as if the carpet was hovered or the furniture washed down. Lots of scuff marks and mud on the legs. Ladies toilets 😟 sorry. That's why I only have it 4 stars But the food was excellent, great chef 👍

Very much a local pub, which is fine of course. But allowing people to vape in the pub is very unpleasant for non smokers and would certainly put me off eating there. Edit - why would a pub allowing vaping inside, warrant anything other than a 1 star review. Your response to my review is quite frankly astonishing.

Lovely little gem of a pub and fantastic home roast dinner. We regularly return on a Sunday for the carvery and at £9.95 I think it’s great value for money. Wholesome home cooked food and a great way to spend a couple of hours in a dog friendly pub after a Sunday walk, our pup even enjoyed his own carvery. Absolutely fantastic carvery, best around! Such a lovely cozy and welcoming dining area to eat with the family. Everything feels relaxed, yet well organised (not a messy free for all with long queues like some carverys). The staff are so friendly, really make you feel at home. Dog friendly too, with lots of well behaved and happy looking doggies. Last but not least, the food is so well cooked and served fresh with pride, top quality range of meat, veg and Yorkshire puds! The parsnips are to die for and my daughter said the mash is the best she has ever had. All this for under a tenner a head. 100% recommended.

Not local to the area so first time visiting the Yew Tree. This is one of those places you find that you never forget. The carvery was exceptional and everything was cooked perfectly. Doggy carvery was £1.50 which is an absolute steal. It consisted of different meats (cut up) and veg of your choice. Our desserts were delicious and well presented. Looking forward to returning and trying different ones on the menu. This was topped with great service which was welcoming and warm. Very glad we decided on the Yew Tree for lunch.

Last minute decision for a Sunday carvery, as they take dogs, which appears unusual for the area. All the better known places don’t. Super friendly greeting to a warm family type pub, food was generous and the whole carvery offering was as good as it possibly could be. I really wanted to love this place, as its very close to my home. I felt the 1 young lad on his own was really doing his best behind the bar. How ever service was super slow we waited an hour and a half to eat. There was no menu for children either. It was freezing cold and stunk of cigarette smoke which only appeared while we were eating. and I found a white/grey dog hair in my pie that also wasn't very warm . A nice place to go for a drink but I certainly wouldn't eat here again. I was very disappointed. We even had to wait a while to pay.. such a shame.

Staying in Harrogate and looked for a nice country pub for Sunday lunch. Came across the Yew Tree Inn. Wow ! What a lovely pub there was one member of staff running the bar and she was brilliant. The lunch was a carvery ,choice of 3 meats or all of them which for a tiny pub was great. Everything was topped up ,the cauliflower cheese was the best I have tasted at any carvery. Top marks to the chef. A must visit but please book as it gets very busy and lots of people had to be turned away .

What A wonderful and warm welcome my mum and I received! Smiles all around and an a friendly and attentive found us a table, and servers drinks as soon as they were able. The aroma from the carvery greeted us as warmly. Oh the food! The chef sliced the succulent meat like a master sculptor … and the meat was definitley cut from the finest stock. Beer. Gammon. Sliced so delicately. Oh. And Turkey. Cauliflower cheese, peas, beans, brocolli, roast potatoes, parsnips, mash. Gravy, horseradish, cranberry. Mint sauce … It was just such a shame that my belly could not contain more. Oh. Puddings. A great choice. Sticky toffee pudding, fudge cake, pies. I had the home made Oreo brownie with custard. I rolled out of the yew tree fully satisfied, my hunger satiated for at least another seven days. I will be dreaming happy dreams until we return. Now doubt next Sunday. Completely and utterly recommend this lively pub. Food. Drink. Ambience. Staff. Friends. Family. It felt like a second home.

Booked a table for 4 of us. Nice enough atmosphere, cozy table, friendly service and the drinks and the kids’ puddings were good. Our table was booked for 4pm and by the time we got there there was virtually nothing left. They’d run out of beef and had a couple of pieces of turkey (not enough for a full portion for one person), so we had a choice of roast ham or, well, roast ham! Most of the veg had depleted, the roast potatoes had been under heat lamps so long they were solid and the Yorkshire puddings looked as sad as I felt. Good news is my diet survived another day! Wasn’t too expensive and what we did have was nice, but wouldn’t be in a hurry to revisit based on this experience. If I did go again I’d be sure to book in for early doors!

Have you ever travelled 196 miles just to go back to a cafe? I wouldn't normally but Pooky's deli has something special about it. In and amongst the delicious bites to eat (standout pain perdu), the plentiful cheese and meats selection and buzzing atmosphere, it is the staff that really made me come all the way back to Leeds from Reading. Never have I ever met such a lovely group of people who are so well equipped for the world of hospitality. Their warm embraces and smiles are what bring oh so many regulars back to Pooky's every single day. Until next time! (I can't wait)
