Duke Of Wellington in Leeds

I’m from the village and this pub has changed hands multiple times over the last 5 years or so. No one has made it work and it still isn’t working. Saturday before Christmas with a party of friends with children, the menu was down to pizza and burgers (could be understandable if preparing for Christmas Day). BUT they ran out certain gins, got to the last barrel of Maretti and the place looked a mess. The bar was lifeless and not well kept, it looks like a pub is ready to follow the pattern and soon close (time will tell). I really want this village pub to work but fear it never will. If you’re reading this to make a choice, go to Cromwells or elsewhere until it’s fixed !

Smelly, empty (on the Saturday before Xmas), lacking basic stock, dirty, sticky tables. The whole place needs some TLC very quickly.

Do not go here at all costs!!!!!! We waited 1.5 hours for food with no explanation or apologies prior to us ordering that it may take longer than expected. When we arrived there were only 3 other tables taken and when we asked about the food delay we were told it was due to a backlog which made no sense as the place was empty! We also saw all our food be delivered to another table whom had sat down 20 minutes after us. After the 3 children we had with us waited so patiently, 2 out of the 3 of them had part of their meal substituted for something else without notice. The portions for the roasts were inadequate, the meat was poor quality, the beef tough and dry. There were 2 small potatoes, a blob of mash and some tiny vegetables on the plate which was so disappointing. The califlower cheese was anaemic, it tasted of nothing and was swimming around in watery sauce. We had a serving dish of tasteless boiled peas and green beans served which I had seen taken into the kitchen earlier out of a freezer bag of veg from the supermarket. The food was cold, and we received the gravy we asked for to warm it up after we’d eaten. We ate the food out of shear hunger for waiting so long, but we left the beef, cauliflower and vegetables. The table behind were served their deserts in dribs and drabs and were served a poor excuse for an eaton mess which was just a meringue with no sauce or fruit!?!?!! After complaining about the poor quality of the food, we were provided with a pathetic offer of £5 off the bill. We will NOT be returning, the previous reviews were miles away from what we experienced today. Such a disappointing way to end an overdue day out with our friends.

Friendly and welcoming. Fabulous homemade beef and chestnut mushroom stew with mash and toasted bread. Totally recommended.

Lovely quite pub, very dog friendly! Staff were very chatty and so accommodating! Food was proper homemade food, delicious and hot!

We called in for a quick drink then ended up having a meal. Really enjoyed home cooking at reasonable price. The beers and wine were of a good standard. The stand out part were the lovely staff who were both friendly and genuinely attentive. Definitely will return soon.

Thought we’d give the Duke of Wellington a visit with friends, knowing that it was under new management and we always like to give such places a chance. We were not disappointed. A lovely welcome, friendly staff and nice food, in very generous portions. We’d not describe it as “high end”, but just right for a nice meal out with friends. Give it a go.

Enjoyed a couple of good visits to the Duke of Wellington. It’s very local to me and it’s very welcoming and friendly staff. Enjoyed meeting the new owners and my fog enjoyed the water and treats given after a long dog walk around the pubs local area. Definitely recommend.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat on Thursday evening been a while since I've been to the duke...staff lovely food ok..we had the cajun chicken was dry and the salad was warm. Herd some good reviews must of just been a bad day will say perfect pint nice a crisp 👌

We ate at the Duke of Wellington on Friday night the first time since the new owners took over. We had a delicious meal and sat outside with our dog. The staff were really attentive with our drinks and meal. Could not fault it.

This pub/restaurant is very good for families and is overall one of the best places I have been to eat with my family in a while. The barstaff were incredibly polite and our food was tasted spectacular, despite how quickly it arrived at our table. It was very busy, but it did not affect how quickly we got our drinks. I will definitely be coming again, 10/10. I definitely recommend this lovely establishment for families, friends, and dog lovers!

We ate here regularly on a Thursday evening when the previous owners were in charge. It was always first class so we were slightly apprehensive on our first visit now that the new team are serving food in the evening. We need not have worried. Excellent food, well presented and perfectly cooked. The chef even bothered to come to see that we were enjoying our meal. Very friendly host and great service. We will be regulars once more . Support this much needed village pub; you won’t be disappointed.

Booked for a late lunch on Sunday, taking our small dog, which meant we had to eat in the Tap Room. What a dismal room! It's like going back to the 1970's. It's almost as if half of it has been decorated (the bar side)...

A really great Sunday lunch - one of the best we have had. Portion size is good without being so big you can’t finish. Service excellent. We will be back!! Table was a little sticky - we should have said at the time.

The landlord and staff are attentive and the food is excellent. Locally sourced and prepared food that has depth of flavour and richness. I feel so lucky to have this amazing gastro pub as a local.

There is a very wide menu choice including specials which change regularly. The food was delicious, well presented in generous portions. Very good, friendly service.

Came here for our friends Christmas meal in December. Booked our table and pre-ordered our meals... all came at the same time and were beautiful. The staff were so friendly and even gave us props to take selfies with! We’ll be returning for other occasions.

Went for late lunch Saturday after Xmas. Food was excellent, service from Julie outstanding and a really good choice of beers and decent wines. The menu is varied , but it is traditional pub food , done very well and plenty of it. My brother who is from out of town would highly recommend.

Fuimos a almorzar el domingo por la noche, el lugar estaba medio lleno cuando llegamos a las 2. 00. Más bien bienvenido, aunque habíamos reservado. Pedimos el rosbif, que llegó bastante rápido. Más bien estropeado por la presentación: una gran masa de puré de papas en la base de una torre alta, con pudín de Yorkshire encima y algunas rebanadas de carne de res en la parte superior, cubiertas con salsa que hizo el yorkshire Budín muy empapado. Alrededor del costado había 3 papas asadas pequeñas, zanahorias y brócoli poco cocido. Se trajo una jarra de salsa por separado, por lo que podría haber sido mejor no haber servido salsa con la comida, también sugeriría perder el puré y darnos más asados.Nos dejaron en paz para disfrutar de nuestra comida, lo cual no me importa, pero a pesar de 4 camareros de servicio y un comedor tranquilo, esperamos 20 minutos para que nuestros platos se retiraran, y luego tuvimos que ir y preguntar a un muchacho que estaba solo pulir cubiertos por la barra. Íbamos a comer pudín, pero cuando nos quejamos al chico por haber sido ignorados, solo recibimos un gruñido en respuesta. Es una pena, ya que es un pub encantador en un pueblo encantador, pero solo necesita un poco más de atención a los detalles en la presentación de los alimentos y el servicio al cliente.

Today we went to the Duke for afternoon tea, it was excellent and I would recommend. The food was very good and the cakes all home made were light and enjoyable. The staff were lovely, very welcoming and pleasant. Thank you for a lovely experience, looking forward to trying your main menu.

Called in here Sunday evening.We were looking for something to eat,but food service stops at 6 30pm,we arrived too late. We had a drink anyway.Looks a really nice pub. Just have to make sure we arrive earlier next time.

When travelling around, I like to stop for a basic cream tea: a scone with jam and cream plus tea. Thinking myself something of a connoiseur, I would like to report how delighted I was. The home-made scone was warm and delicious, served with just the right amount of butter and strawberry jam already applied and a generous amount of whipped cream. There was a substantial mug of Yorkshire tea. A great little treat!

My family and I (party of 6) went for Christmas lunch...I will be honest, this wasn’t our first choice after trying to book into a couple of restaurants in Leeds early October, both were booked up... panick hit so spoke to my brother who lives in East Keswick for his thoughts and he came up with the Duke and thankfully we made a booking at a time that suited us and not them telling us a time...we arrived at 130 to what was a very busy bar but instantly shown to our table...after only around a couple of minutes, our waitress was straight over to take our drinks order which was great for us as we envisaged one of us having to queue at the bar..not the case. A month before, we had to pre order our lunch...I had the list in my bag but oh no, they knew by name, who had ordered what... we were given an Amouse Bouche which was a mushroom soup with the most gorgeous parmasen crisp....the starter, main and desert all followed in a timely manor...I am known for never finishing my main course but I did on this occasion which everyone was shocked at! After desert, tea/coffee and mince pies were served which was too much for us but the staff very kindly boxed them up for us to bring home... We have eaten out for the past 8 years at various restaurants in North Leeds and although all made the best of the experience being together and embracing the festivities, we have never booked again for the following year. Please believe me, we are not high maintenance but have never received good service, quality food and always felt quite rushed....we are already booking for 2019 and to end this, would highly recommend this lovely pub which has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere but that is only down to the lovely Karen and her great team.

Please visit this destination pub in East Keswick. Karen & Chris are great publicans, the pub is very nice. Open fires give it a cosy feel-friendly locals and great food & cask ales. We tried there home made pizzas as they had a Tuesday night special offer on. 2 for £15Absolutely amazing better than any Italian restaurant we have tried in a long time. We will be going back for more and to try there proper Yorkshire Roast Dinners we have been told about.

Went on very quiet afternoon but the service was incredibly slow.The staf kept apologising sayin problems in kitchen.However when the food eventually arrived it was good and well cooked.Maybe it was a one off but the slow service certainly detracted from the meal!

Regularly enjoy this brilliant local pub. Excellent varied menu served by friendly and efficient staff. Karen and Chris are doing a great job. Highly recommend Chris's pizzas - they're fabulous. :-)

Have never written a tripadvisor report before. Would have emailed but could not find email address. We had eaten at the pub six weeks ago late sun afternoon and the food was really good. There had been the full menu available as well as Sunday roast. Unfortunately this evening was disappointing to such a degree that we wondered if the chef had changed? The pub now just offers a very limited Sunday menu. We had come with friends and wanted to treat them to a meal. We were told the pub had been busy earlier and so some portions on the very limited sun menu, were not available and there were only two Yorkshire puddings for three roast dinners . The roast dinner was poor. Three tiny roast potatoes ( out of a packet) and the Yorkshire pud I had was awful. Meat was not the best either. My partner had chicken and chips. Chicken was dry and chips were way over salted. It may well be that they were busy earlier and what was left was poor and limited.. We did not feel able to complain as we were with friends but am surprised we were not offered some discount just on basis of no Yorkshire, not enough potatoes. Such a shame. Has the chef changed? Could be a one off, I hope so as so enjoyed last time and was so impressed with the menu.

Having enjoyed dining here before, we decided on an impromptu visit with family visiting from Manchester.As it was last minute, we hadn't booked, but despite the restaurant being very busy, the staff went out of their way to find us a table (5 of us in total). Although we were told when we arrived that the Sunday roast had sold out, the chef went out of his way to cook us all steaks to perfection & the service was once again first class.Will definitely be visiting again (although next time we'll try & book!!!)

Moody welcome, dirty high chairs, telephoned to book 1 hour before we arrived and no one thought to tell us the main Sunday dish would have sold out? Posh pub with Ketchup and Mayo in packets, never a good sign. Dirty cutlery, forgot one of the kids dishes. Bland dry food, Sunday roast beef chewy, roast potatoes hard, Yorkshire’s burnt, chips hard, all unseasoned. Thanks for not charging us for two of the mains. Very kind of you, not sure that’s the point though! No offer of something different and didn’t feel like there was any attempt to learn from feedback. Certainly didn’t feel like valued diners. We were told no one has complained about the food before. Judging by some of the reviews that clearly isn’t the case. In fact on reflection, were really not made welcome throughout the entire visit, felt more that we were in the way and really not wanted. Very odd, I could see it was a bit busy, and most of you seemed stressed, but surely that’s not how you want people to feel? Such a shame as enjoyed previous visits and setting is lovely. We won’t be returning.

We went as a family of 5 with grandparents and children and all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Lovely little village pub with a warm reception and lovely food. Will definitely be back!

We’ve been to the Wellington a number of times now and it never fails to deliver. The food is unbelievable as is the welcoming friendly service. The menu has something for everyone and is always top notch. It has a great beer garden that we used to watch the World Cup games. It’s dog friendly and the team always look after our dogs with water and treats from the kitchen.We’ve already enquired about Christmas for our lunch as the locals have been telling us what an unbelievable experience the owners put on.This place is an absolute gem and not to be missed.

Amazing Sunday Lunch and Drinks. The staff were welcoming and very friendly. The atmosphere both inside and in the bear garden was fantastic. Can not wait to try something else from their delicious menu. We highly recommend a visit.

Nestled in the heart of East Keswick The Duke of Wellington sits overlooking idyllic countryside views. We were greeted by the staff and presented with a perfectly pulled pint which was needed after our walk.The inside is so cosy with open fires throughout...pets are also welcomed to join you in the tap room where they get fussed and spoilt with treats and cuddles, just fabulous!We decided to dine in the beautiful landscaped patiod garden and ordered an authentic stone baked pizza from the mouth watering menu.. we were not disappointed when our pizza arrived, it really was delicious ...a taste sensation and undoubtedly the best I have ever tasted.We have visited this gem a few times and have never been dissatisfied with the service, grub or drinks... they've just got it nailed on.I cannot recommend The Duke of Wellington enough. The atmosphere is just so welcoming and the menu has been carefully put together to suit all palets, along with a great choice of wines and perfect pints...Really what's not to like.

The most appalling food ever....Ceasar salad...lettuce...1xchicken breast cut in half.. no dressing..no croutons...but edible....lamb tagine...flat bread...like a rock...some kind of slaw...yuck...dry chunks of lamb...pomegranate on top...totally inedible.....friend had ham and eggs...oh piece of over cooked Gammon not even ham...hard fried egg...bloody awful chips cooked in rancid fat...complained to be told by very young waitress that the chef said it was ok...I suggested the chef ate it....then against our better judgement my friend ordered a cheese cake...omg rancid disgusting...the drinks were fabulous...the food was appalling....sack the chef...he will ruin your business...get some staff that know about customer care....really sad cos you have a fabulous place

We visit this pub often, it’s a lovely drive and the beer garden is really nice. We decided to go for a drink there again, we walked in and said hello to the young girl, she didn’t even acknowledge us! She said we had to wait a while as there was a private 90th Birthday, we waited almost ten minutes and the girl came back with a young male who informed us we couldn’t have a drink and we wouldn’t be served so we needed to leave due to the private party that was in a different area! I mentioned to the girl who never smiles that she could have told us, she shrugged and we left. On another occasion we had ordered a pizza that came on a wooden board, when they came to clear our table the older woman, who is really friendly, emptied the full ashtray on the wooden board and carried it away, very off putting and we won’t be going back!

This is a super village pub serving great food at reasonable prices. Why anyone would leave a poor rating over a slip of the tongue is a mystery - why didn't they ask at the point of ordering? It would be most unusual for a pub to only serve steak on Sundays so it would be natural to check the waitresses statement. However, my husband and I were there for the first time last night; the beer garden was very busy, the pub buzzing with activity . Our waitress was extremely busy but also extremely attentive and helpful without being in any way intrusive. Husband had haddock and chips and I had the Moroccan lamb, both were delicious. I often order lamb in a pub or restaurant not visited before, simply to find out how good the chef really is - this lamb was incredibly tender, perfectly cooked, could perhaps have benefitted from a little more Harissa for Moroccan but it was very good indeed. We both enjoyed our meals very much. Thank you and we'll be back.

Wow what a difference a 6 months make came here end of last year disappointed wasn't the word. Came back and it is transformed food 1st class and a great vibe around the place beer garden 1st class and atmosphere in pub fantastic. Great to have a proper pub in village again. Keep up the great work.

It was not good! The lady that served us clearly had beef and steak mixed up. She said they only served steak (on a Sunday) and yet we both received two generous slices of beef with our dinner. Forgive me for getting beef and steak mixed up, in fact I will forgive the duke of Wellington for getting them mixed up! There was a large group in before us, but that’s not a excuse for a poor show dinner wise

Went for lunch on fathers’ day after recommendation that the pub had improved of late due to new management and it’s our local. On entering it was evident the staff were well trained and focused, and genuinely wanting customers to have a great experience. The staff were really lovely and hard working. The 3 course lunch was tasty. I had lamb which was beautiful and the veg were fresh. The dessert was amazing! My only recommendation would be that it feels a little sparse/ cold inside. I’m not sure if this is due to the lighting or decor. The Thornhill arms in Calverley has a similar vibe and would be worth looking at re the decor. Perhaps losing the floral curtains might help?In summary, the staff are lovely and attentive and the food was great. I will definitely go back and wish all the staff and the management all the best.Thank you for a great meal!

Popped in for a drink and stayed a couple of hours. Good gin selection and lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff too
