Duke Of Wellington in Leeds

Smelly, empty (on the Saturday before Xmas), lacking basic stock, dirty, sticky tables. The whole place needs some TLC very quickly.

I’m from the village and this pub has changed hands multiple times over the last 5 years or so. No one has made it work and it still isn’t working. Saturday before Christmas with a party of friends with children, the menu was down to pizza and burgers (could be understandable if preparing for Christmas Day). BUT they ran out certain gins, got to the last barrel of Maretti and the place looked a mess. The bar was lifeless and not well kept, it looks like a pub is ready to follow the pattern and soon close (time will tell). I really want this village pub to work but fear it never will. If you’re reading this to make a choice, go to Cromwells or elsewhere until it’s fixed !

Do not go here at all costs!!!!!! We waited 1.5 hours for food with no explanation or apologies prior to us ordering that it may take longer than expected. When we arrived there were only 3 other tables taken and when we asked about the food delay we were told it was due to a backlog which made no sense as the place was empty! We also saw all our food be delivered to another table whom had sat down 20 minutes after us. After the 3 children we had with us waited so patiently, 2 out of the 3 of them had part of their meal substituted for something else without notice. The portions for the roasts were inadequate, the meat was poor quality, the beef tough and dry. There were 2 small potatoes, a blob of mash and some tiny vegetables on the plate which was so disappointing. The califlower cheese was anaemic, it tasted of nothing and was swimming around in watery sauce. We had a serving dish of tasteless boiled peas and green beans served which I had seen taken into the kitchen earlier out of a freezer bag of veg from the supermarket. The food was cold, and we received the gravy we asked for to warm it up after we’d eaten. We ate the food out of shear hunger for waiting so long, but we left the beef, cauliflower and vegetables. The table behind were served their deserts in dribs and drabs and were served a poor excuse for an eaton mess which was just a meringue with no sauce or fruit!?!?!! After complaining about the poor quality of the food, we were provided with a pathetic offer of £5 off the bill. We will NOT be returning, the previous reviews were miles away from what we experienced today. Such a disappointing way to end an overdue day out with our friends.

Friendly and welcoming. Fabulous homemade beef and chestnut mushroom stew with mash and toasted bread. Totally recommended.

We popped into the Duke of Wellington last night for a meal with the kids as my 4 year old kept asking to go 😂 it's so good for kids meals, the staff were excellent and those pints of Landlord went down too easily 🤭 thanks team Duke!! X

Called in here after a long day at dogfest, staff were great, friendly and attentive. Was very relaxed and dog friendly. Food arrived hot and tasty. Highly recommended and hopefully we are nearby soon to call in for food.

Came for a meal with little one before she starts back at school and cannot recommend this place enough! The girl who served us was so polite and helpful and answered all questions I had as my DD is gluten intolerant. She checked with the kitchen and promptly got back to us. Will be returning for sure

What an absolute disgrace. Waited over an hour for food still didn't arrive. Asked polity how much longer it would be after being informed it would be a further 10 mind previous. I went to the bar to ask them to cancel. Whilst at the bar I hear another client mention how bad the service was only to be called a prick by a member of staff. Utterly gob smacked. I appreciate when it's busy food takes time but there was 4 covers. To hear someone being sworn at when complaining about service is beyond me. And the owner had the cheek to charge me for my pint! What a joke

Service appalling due to lazy staff. The pub was not busy at all. Did not clear our table after first course. We got tired of waiting to be asked if we wanted a desert so my husband went to the bar to pay for our meal and drinks only to find four members of staff stood behind the bar talking. When he expressed his dissatisfaction with the service one female member of staff referred to my husband as a prick, before she took herself up the stairs. We called in for a quick drink then ended up having a meal. Really enjoyed home cooking at reasonable price. The beers and wine were of a good standard. The stand out part were the lovely staff who were both friendly and genuinely attentive. Definitely will return soon.

Came for a meal with our family while passing through on the way on a day out. Staff are amazing, food is delicious, and drinks are very reasonably priced.

Thought we’d give the Duke of Wellington a visit with friends, knowing that it was under new management and we always like to give such places a chance. We were not disappointed. A lovely welcome, friendly staff and nice food, in very generous portions. We’d not describe it as “high end”, but just right for a nice meal out with friends. Give it a go.

Enjoyed a couple of good visits to the Duke of Wellington. It’s very local to me and it’s very welcoming and friendly staff. Enjoyed meeting the new owners and my fog enjoyed the water and treats given after a long dog walk around the pubs local area. Definitely recommend.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat on Thursday evening been a while since I've been to the duke...staff lovely food ok..we had the cajun chicken was dry and the salad was warm. Herd some good reviews must of just been a bad day will say perfect pint nice a crisp 👌

My fiancé and I called in just for a drink on our way home on Saturday. Staff were absolutely amazing, so friendly, so welcoming, made us feel one of the family. We had our drinks in the sun trapped beer garden, which was also amazing. We were welcomed that well (and enjoyed ourselves that much after only stopping off one pint) we are going back with the kids for a family birthday meal later this month

Lovely country pub run by a lovely lady, although she was pregnant, was happy and ever so helpful. Throughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I'd recommend everyone to go there .

We ate at the Duke of Wellington on Friday night the first time since the new owners took over. We had a delicious meal and sat outside with our dog. The staff were really attentive with our drinks and meal. Could not fault it.

Treated friends to lunch. Last time I'd been was last autumn. The fish and chips were not as good. I didn't think that the fish was fresh, the batter was soggy, chips a bit bland, sauces tastless , thin and poor quality. Last year we got a pot of delicious home made tartar sauce with it , not now. The service was great, friendly and helpful.

This pub/restaurant is very good for families and is overall one of the best places I have been to eat with my family in a while. The barstaff were incredibly polite and our food was tasted spectacular, despite how quickly it arrived at our table. It was very busy, but it did not affect how quickly we got our drinks. I will definitely be coming again, 10/10. I definitely recommend this lovely establishment for families, friends, and dog lovers!

We ate here regularly on a Thursday evening when the previous owners were in charge. It was always first class so we were slightly apprehensive on our first visit now that the new team are serving food in the evening. We need not have worried. Excellent food, well presented and perfectly cooked. The chef even bothered to come to see that we were enjoying our meal. Very friendly host and great service. We will be regulars once more . Support this much needed village pub; you won’t be disappointed.

Only been there for a wake it was adequate but not startling

Second time we have visited this pub had a meal each time, I’ve been impressed with the quality of the food it’s just standard fare, I’ve had the burger which was good my wife had the steak which was cooked perfectly. All the staff have been friendly and welcoming Couple of nice log fires adds to a overall friendly atmosphere

Booked for a late lunch on Sunday, taking our small dog, which meant we had to eat in the Tap Room. What a dismal room! It's like going back to the 1970's. It's almost as if half of it has been decorated (the bar side)...

A really great Sunday lunch - one of the best we have had. Portion size is good without being so big you can’t finish. Service excellent. We will be back!! Table was a little sticky - we should have said at the time.

There is a very wide menu choice including specials which change regularly. The food was delicious, well presented in generous portions. Very good, friendly service.

Fantastic and generous Sunday roast. Beef and gammon options chosen in our group and both were very well received. Barely managed to squeeze in a dessert but glad we did - the Guinness cake went down a treat. Will definitely be returning in future.

Perhaps it's the time of year but the restaurant was quite quiet when we visited though the bar appeared livelier. We ate in the restaurant and started with the sharing 3 mixed starters. Certainly had that hone made feel. Our mains were amazing certainly not regular pub food amazing roast pork loin with bombay potatoes were a yum. My partner had a smashing piece of lamb on a bed of lentils and peas. So pleased we visited. Lovely staff ,good food and beers . Just need a few more punters through the door.

Visited for lunch during the Platinum Jubilee weekend. We found the Jubilee linked menu a little limited but still enabled us to select meals to our liking. We also felt that it was a little expensive compared with other locations where we had dined recently....

Really accommodating Team. We were visiting Emmerdale experience and had to reschedule the time, nothing was too much, brilliant customer care! Trio of roast was huge, beef was rare and succulent, vegetables cooked with a bite, fish and chips was flaky and tasted of fish. We hosted a party for over 50 at The Duke and NOTHING was too much trouble. Ten out of ten for: Communication, venue, cleanliness, food – including portion sizes and drinks. I’d strongly recommend them – they also have a lovely sunny terrace perfect for those summer days.

Stopped for luncheon today. Had lamb steak ,lamb shank, Orange tarte, sticky toffee pudding. Both meals were excellent. Succulent lamb, smooth tarts and light toffee pudding. Cannot fault it. High recommendation to visit and eat here. We will definitely be returning.

On a trip from Newcastle to London, we didn't fancy stopping at another service station so pulled of of the A1 and found the Duke of Wellington. So happy we did, the Sunday roast was one of the best I've had, the pork belly was soft and succulent and perfect crackling. The veg was cooked perfectly and the Yorkshire pud and gravy spot on. Freindly service and reasonably priced. Will definitely be stopping there again on my next trip.
