Got together with long standing good friend couple for a relaxed evening before the Christmas madness starts. By no means busy but a perfect setting and food for a lovely evening.

Brett (the chef) was accommodating and worked with us to create a very special and memorable day. He provided an amazing meal for 40 guests for our Silver Wedding Anniversary lunch. Food was of a high standard, hot at point of service and very tasty. We have had lots of compliments from our guests. The club itself, is in a picturesque location on the river Yealm, with inside and outside tables as well as a restaurant upstairs. Staff were attentive and worked hard to ensure the day and in particular the food service went smoothly. Thank you to you all for such an fantastic day!

Since new chef Brett came at end of 2020 the food has been really good. My first meal after a year of lockdown was a lamb pie, which was absolutely super. It's my go-to place to eat. And I'm fussy.

We have been visiting Newton Ferrers for a number of years and about 4 years ago tried the Yacht club for dinner. It has now become a regular part of any visit to the area. John was the chef for many years and was excellent. When he left it was a bit patchy as the club tried different chefs. Visited in November and am delighted to report the new chef (a local chap) is very, very good. My spicy prawn starter was full of chillies and brilliant. Our main courses of Plaice and Venison showed real cooking skill. Highly recommend this restaurant but check that it is open for casual diners as being an integral part of the village it often hosts events which mean you can have a drink but not eat.

A lovely place to visit. Even on this off season occasion, with much wind, the whole place and vistas lovely. Have visited off season before, walking around, and mooring up on the pontoon one March. This looks as if it would be a lovely place to take a lunch or a drink.

We have dined here for my husband’s birthday for the last 2 years and the food has always been good. Sadly this is no longer the case, the longtime chef has recently departed. We both ordered the mackerel pate with toast to start and the fiery slow cooked lamb for mains. The pate was adequate but was served with one piece of French bread that had been toasted some hours before and was therefore dry and stale. Fingers crossed the lamb would be good .... What appeared was a lamb shank, with no sauce whatsoever and some over cooked vegetables. That cut of meat should fall off the bone .... you couldn’t get your knife through it. It was dry, tough and generally inedible. As it was a special occasion we decided to cut our losses and leave. Neither of us touched our main course. One of the staff asked what the problem was, we explained and she then gave us the bill for the whole meal! Quite unbelievable not to at least remove the two main courses. We said as much and she said the best she could do was remove one main course. Talk about adding insult to injury! This place is being run by youngsters who would appear to have had no customer service training, they are polite but clueless. It certainly proved to be an unforgettable birthday but for all the wrong reasons. On a positive note Lisa, at the always excellent, Ship Inn found a table for us and we enjoyed a delicious bouillabaisse!

A great location looking across the Yealm Estuary. The Club is a great place to grab a supper, and we had a very nice meal. We understand that the chef may be nmoving on soon, so I hope they secure a good replacement.

We made a reservation by phone for a pary of six. This was confirmed. We took a boat trip and a long walk to reach our destination looking forward to enjoy a culinary feast. We were told the restaurant was closed. We were given no explanation or apology. We had a confirmed booking. It is shameful that a National Lottery funded establishment can act in such a manner.

Enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch here overlooking the picturesque Yealm Estuary on a beautifully sunny day. There wasn't a big selection to choose from and the menus were hand written as the printer had broken so I didn't have high hopes. We were looked after by a young man who was on duty with only one other young lady. He was very friendly and welcoming and a credit to the Club. I had the asparagus in pancetta with avocado for a starter and roast beef with all the trimmings as a main - the beef was the best I have had in a long time. I can also recommend the treacle tart. The whole meal was great. The only downside is that they don't seem to cater for gluten free customers.

Firstly, please note that I can find no fault whatsoever in the food - it was top class. The menu was nicely varied and when my lamb shank (incredibly reasonably priced) arrived it was delightful. Wine was similarly good and we generally had a great time. The event was soured somewhat when my sister explained that she was gluten free and asked if it was possible for her to eat particular dishes from the menu. At this moment our waitress replied with "There's a field over there, why don't you go and graze in that?" I have a fantastic sense of humour but to be honest this missed the mark by quite some distance. Being a coeliac is not a lifestyle choice it's a hindrance and as it can already be somewhat limiting when eating out it is even more of a problem when a staff member treats it like a joke. They clearly didn't understand as the starter that was ordered then arrived with bread on the side. It was disappointing that this was how the evening began as we enjoyed the rest of our time here, but given my vast experience in the catering industry I would never have considered poking fun at a medical condition one of my customers has to endure. Show some understanding next time, Yealm Yacht Club!

Booked for 6 on August Bank Holiday, the Saturday evening. Reasonable choices available on the menu, everyone chose different items, some with, some without starters. All seemed very happy with their choices, the chicken I found particularly good, our guest who had the traditional fish and chips struggled to finish it. This is our fifth or sixth visit, each time a success.

An unexpected find. Great location overlooking the Yealm river, entertainment provided by the kids prepare their dinghies for a race. The menu may be small but the food was excellent and good value. Better quality than I've learnt to expect in UK yacht clubs. Not just us, everyone eating near us were exclaiming about how great their food was. We'll definitely return.

We had an amazing meal here last year so when we returned this August 2014 we headed straight for the yacht club. The food is superb. The location overlooking the estuary is unbeatable. We were lucky with the weather and we decided to sit outside and the staff cold not be more helpful. Our food was utterly delicious. We had the mushrooms on toast and pulled pork for starters, followed by the duo of fish and the duck for main course. Unbeatable! Excellent food and such good prices!

We ate in the Yacht Club last night and it was superb! It is a really friendly place with a very relaxed but buzzy atmosphere. There is a Bistro upstairs but we chose to eat in the bar area looking out at the wonderful views of the River Yealm through huge picture windows. We both had the pork loin with herb crust which was excellent quality. We had seen fresh vegetables delivered in the morning and there they were on our plate! Generous portions, professionally cooked and presented. We recommend you eat here.

We were treated very well as visiting yachtsmen. Not sure why its called a 'bistro' given that there is nothing remotely Gallic about Newton and Noss or the Yealm Yacht Club. We used a mooring downstream for a couple of nights and naturally came up to the club which was very welcoming and convivial. Rather more so than the pub just along the terrace. Club food was straightforward well cooked and presented. Fairly priced and quickish. The club has a slick well constructed website which had initially made us a little cautious as to whether the reality would match up but it pretty well did.

I work locally just a few doors down the road in a local opticians and frequent this lovely little cafe fairly often for lunch. I usually get a sandwich from their deli counter and they keep me coming back. I have tried a number of different options and none of them have disappointed. In the winter I especially like their soup of the day which is very well priced. I love the Mediterranean counter and often purchase a pot of Dolmades. If you're in the area I would recommend going here for lunch, you will be glad you did

We realise that this restaurant cannot provide a large menu especially during the autumn /winter but on our evening the fish choice was not on (replaced with a lazy prawn dish) and out of two desserts the crumble was also not available! Feel this is lazy as there is so much fish available locally and the excuses to not provide an apple crumble is in fact rather lazy from the kitchen. If you only want to offer pizzas and burgers, fine but don’t disappoint people with omissions.

Dropped in for a quick lunch. Expensive for what it is. For example a small piece of frittata and a very small salad for nine ounces odd. Went home and had toast to supplement. Disappointing as had heard good things.
