This place has character and the locals are friendly, just making my way around st neots picking out the best ones. I like this place albeit one little issue is I always get the same middle aged barmaid with grey hair hanging in her eyes ..you need a barmaid refurb definitely not a Brucey bonus one should be leaving the bar work to younger pretty girls a hot blooded man wants to see please.

Fabulous "Proper Pub". Usually 4 beers on handpump plus taps. Lovely open fire and sunny garden (when we get sun!) Seems to be pretty child free and the clientele, staff and guv'nor are all friendly. One of my favourite Battlecruisers!

Quintessentially English pub serving fantastic real ale in a friendly atmosphere. My only (very slight gripe) is that I did not get to experience the overly flirtatious curly haired bar maid, mentioned in previous reviews …. maybe my next visit will prove more fruitful?

Looked like a nice pub things started off ok until one of the barmaids took a shine to my husband. Overly flirtatious with innuendo. Dont know names but curly hair. Will not go back didn't go out for that.

We popped in this pub to have a drink and ended up staying for a few 🤣. We was in st Neots but live in London and was overwhelmed by the friendly welcome from the locals. Would love to visit again. Oh and the landlord was great 👍

My advice , don’t bother! The Yorkshire pudding wasn’t cooked, was very soggy. The roast pork, wasn’t sliced from a joint and wasn’t tender. I think the pork was a brought in ready sliced. We wasn’t offered any apple sauce , obviously hadn’t put any thought into cooking ! The vegetables , tasted and looked like cheap frozen ones! We was given two roast potatoes ! There was no taste , the gravy was terrible. 😡 We will not be returning ever !

Visited on a weekday, early evening for a drink before having a meal. We walked in with masks on and all eyes in the pub (all locals crowded around the bar) turned on us. No friendly greeting, just unfriendly glares from everyone including the staff member on the bar. We grabbed drinks, and grabbed a table in the side room off from the bar. The whole time we had people glancing and snickering. One of my party got up to use the toilet (mask on) and received audible comments ridiculing mask use, which was accompanied by laughter from bar staff and other patrons. Absolutely pathetic from all involved. These quiet comments continued throughout the remainder of the unfortunately stay. We used to frequent the pub on a semi regular basis, been to numerous charity events at the pub too; but this behaviour is inexcusable. We will be telling others how much of a dive this pub has taken, and clearly where their moronic (Facebook research) views lie.

Nice looking pub, miserable landlord. Acts like he doesn't really want customers. It makes you wonder what first attracted him to working with the public. Best avoided!

I came into this pub for a quick drink before moving on, it has the strangest landlord I have ever seen running a pub constantly swearing this rude man really loved the sound of his own voice. He then proceeded to break wind & stink his own pub out walking round the place saying "That's a good one I haven't done one as good as that for ages" I could not believe what I was seeing & hearing he must of been nearly 70 & acting like a delinquent child, The music was on the jukebox & he proceeded to spin round & round telling everyone that this was "Northern soul dancing" more likely an excuse to break wind again & spread it about the pub even quicker, his staff seemed a bit embarrassed by him & I felt sorry for them. A strange man indeed, the good points were that the beer was good the place was clean & the staff were polite & friendly & I would of given this place 4 stars if it wasn't for the person running it. I left & headed off to somewhere normal.

A no-theme pub with 3 interlinked bars that attracts a mature (but not Geriatric!) friendly clientele, serving up to 5 real ales on handpump, plus the usual suspects on tap. Prices very reasonable when compared to many Real Ale pubs, (up until recently it was possible to get a pint for under £3!) but all beers are not overpriced. Conversation is the main form of entertainment and there is a bring-and-borrow library. Garden/seating area outside where it would be recommended kids sit, the pub can get VERY popular and consequently short on room, but this is also the smoking area, so be aware. .Mind you head too, there are a few beams to watch, especially coming in. Immaculately clean, modern toilets too. Stop for a pint or two!

Cool old pub... it is really a no frill kind of place, but the beers are good and the locals have really good stories to tell... the service is relaxed and nobody seems to be in a hurry, the way it is suppose to be... if you are more than 5f10i tall be very very careful... there is a garden in the back...

A very rude landlord. Simply pulling a pint seemed too much trouble. He was quite happy with his very foul-mouthed regulars were sounding off about something however. Some of the worst language I've heard in a pub. Worse sin of all, didn't even fill the glasses! The most aggressive and unpleasant pub atmosphere I have encountered in a very long time. I drank up and left pronto and will not return. Claims to be a CAMRA pub, usually a good guide for quality, are standards that low in Cambs?

A friend & I decided to visit for a few pints on Saturday. I'd not seen their guest ale on tap before so politely asked to try a sip. "It's a mild" replied the barmaid with a blank expression, then a couple of seconds later "Do you still want to try it?", almost as if I was really putting her out with this request. Yes please - because just telling me "it's a mild" means nothing to me. The reason I'd like to try it is to ascertain exactly what it tastes like, not just rely on your vague description and hope for the best - another reason being to see how well it's been kept, as some pubs unfortunately don't keep their beers well so it's sensible & completely acceptable to politely request a sip, as is the custom at pubs across the nation. I could understand a younger bartender not realising this but not a mature one as was this surly lady. So we left after one pint and certainly won't be back in a hurry if that's the kind of ignorant & discourteous service on offer. Stick it.

Went in for a quick drink with my partner and my 81 year old mother. I have visited this pub albeit infrequently, since I attended the local sixth form some 42 years ago. There was only one customer there chatting with two members of staff. During our brief visit we had to listen to a lengthy moan about how it wasn't worth 'doing food' since they only got old people in who want a proper meal for not much money and there's no profit in it. This conversation was liberally punctuated with expletives.

We wer recommended to this pub, and its reviews online looked good too, so we went there on our first evening in St Neots, only to find a board outside saying evening meals only Tuesday to Saturday. This was a Monday! Disappointed, we went away and came back again the next night, only to find the board had disappeared and the owner telling us they'd stopped doing evening meals because there were so many fast food outlets nearby!

Good local pub with good stock of beers. Felsted very much a locals pub in the evening rather than one for visitors which is a shame as it could pull in a lot of trade with different focus. I like it though.

We were looking for something to eat, but didnt want to pay the extortionate prices of "chain" restaurants, and we happened upon Ye Olde Sun in St Neots. Very reasonable prices and fantastic food. My daughter's half a chicken was the size of a goose and my gammon took up half the plate. My mum had enough ham with her ham, egg and chips to feed a small army and my eldest daughter had a huge burger with lashings of cheese and burger sauce.

We came for a late lunch as we were in the area. The entrance area is welcoming and looks inviting. It was Halloween and there were fun pumpkins and flowers on the outside tables and later lanterns were lit. The bar area is cosy and warm,’gently’ lit and charming. This hotel has a really nice feel to it. We instantly felt comfortable and relaxed and the lovely young staff were on point at the start. I asked for a condiment and it didn’t come so had to ask again and for one or two other things. All staff are willing but it became a little bit disjointed and incoherent. I didn’t see anyone keeping them focussed and this could be slightly better. Our food was excellent. We loved it all and the wines are also good. All in all very nice experience and we are looking forward to coming back.

You hear that crunchy layer? 😋 🐟 FRIAR TUCK’S OF YAXLEY 📍 🇬🇧 A few weeks back, I stumbled across a new Fish n Chips spot! I am on a quest to find the best tastiest Fish & Chips combo in the UK. 🇬🇧 I am a big fan of fried fish in general but UKs fish and chips is my new obsession. 🤩 Each month I select a fish n chips spot to review its service, ambiance and most importantly its taste of its food. FRIAR TUCK’S OF YAXLEY have been on my radar for quite some time now. I finally went there and had to see what they working with. The location was convenient. I like the set up of the store, a very well put together to-go spot. The workers at the cash register were sweet. When I asked the difference between the two types of fish, the cook at the counter seemed annoyed that I asked that question. 😅😅 They also didn’t have had their large size fish option at the moment, which was a bummer. 😕Nevertheless, I was still excited to try their fish and chips. So got a Medium size Cod. They fried the fish right in front of me which was superb 🤩 The pricing wasn’t that bad as well. Something I did appreciate was that they wrap their food in paper which made it feel more authentic. Their medium size fish was HUGE, as well as the small chips order. 🫨It smells Devine! Once I got my food, I was ready to eat it right and then! As I was leaving, there was this MOST BREATHTAKING PICTURE PERFECT RAINBOW I’ve ever seen 🌈 I mean, it was just out of this world! That’s when I knew this fish and chips was going to be amazing! It was indeed amazing! It was well seasoned with salt and vinegar with my chips as well. It has the perfect crisp to it. The fish tasted fresh and great quality. Would love to visit again! If ever in this area, it’s a MUST! If the owners see this raving review, feel free to reach out and thank me by sending me a to-go box 😁😊😋
