Ye Old Toll House in Walsall

Have eaten here many times over the years and the food never disappoints, truly excellent, you can see why the place has such a good reputation in the local area and is the go to place for a special treat. Yes it costs more than Wetherspoons but you can taste the difference and it is worth every penny. The service is also a step above, no ordering on an app and fetching your own cutlery and condiments here.

If you want an excellent meal, look no further, all the staff are lovely and very welcoming, I had the roast beef and the Yorkshire pudding was divine, all the vegetables come separately so you can have as much as you want, and the roast potatoes were hot and crispy with a lovely flavour. If you want a Sunday lunch at a reasonable price served in a lovely setting then you won’t be disappointed

Sunday lunch did not disappoint! Lots of fresh vegetables cooked to perfection! The cauliflower cheese was so creamy! We had the beef and it was delicious!

Ordered steak and kidney pie from the lunchtime menu. Steak wasn't cooked enough, couldn't cut with a knife. Full of mushrooms and carrots which didn't mention on the menu. Needed much more cooking, whole thing tasted uncooked and not rich as the menu suggested. Told the waitress who said I'll let the chef know. We recieved no apology or feedback. Won't be going back in a hurry. Very disappointing

Afternoon tea, well what can I say great selection of sandwiches including traditional egg mayo and cress to a chicken and bacon Caesar salad and prawn and salmon crostini for the wow factor, as for the middle plate mini sliders and homemade scotch eggs so good I asked for the recipe (wouldn't give it tho), a good variety of cakes on the bottom tier, constantly asked if we wanted top ups of our tea and coffee, couple of our group selected for the glass of prosecco/gin and tonic to accompany the food, all in all great little characteristic restaurant and great atmosphere for a friendly get together. I'm sure we'll be goin back again to try the main menu and see what that has to offer.

We had the set 4 course menu the choice was excellent with a bottle of wine. Starter Main Desert and a cheese board. The food was fabulous as always Couldn't eat the cheese board so they boxed it up for us to take home. What a fantastic offer service first class. Don't miss this offer its unreal.

Been to the toll many times we went on Sunday the main meal should never have been sent out the kitchen the beef was so tough and full of fat it was inedible we all five of us left our food we told the waitress and all she said was sorry not good enough for the price of the food

Well we hadn’t been here for about 20 odd years and don’t think it’s changed much but we were pleasantly surprised The decor might be old work style but the food is good - big portions but is actually good and presented well Selection is good and you actually get vegetables with your mains - not ‘this is your main course with one accompaniment and yes you will pay a lot for the privilege’ It is far from pretentious- it is good well cooked well presented home cooked food but with a classy twist in it - none of this pretentious pay us £200 each (or more) for us to look down on you while you grace our establishment Staters were done really well - rabbit scotch egg , mackerel fish cake , spicy parsnip soup delicious all of them Then mains - roast pork belly , chicken supreme, lamb - all cooked perfectly and very tasty - there is also an amazing selection of fish dishes- trying next time ! Yes we will be back It maybe to some a little kitsch to some , and maybe it reminded us of days gone by but we really did enjoy ourselves The staff are lovely and professional - down to earth It really is worth a try - honestly

Visited here for a belated Mother's day treat with my mom and sister for afternoon tea. The service from the moment we arrived and were greeted at the door was exceptional. We have been for many afternoon teas at various establishments, some better than others but this was by far the best selection of both sandwiches and hot and cold savouries we have had. We particularly enjoyed the beef sliders. The selection of cakes were all delicious and fresh and the scones with clotted cream and jam were served warm. We were asked about 4 times if we needed fresh tea which was a nice touch. Would highly recommend if you are looking for an afternoon tea with a bit of a difference. Can also upgrade to include prossecco or gin and tonic which one of our party did.

I live abroad and am visiting my mother in the Black Country. Today would have been my father's birthday so we booked a table, along with my aunt Sue, at the Toll House. I've eaten here before and enjoyed it but today the whole thing was rather ruined by my mother's main course - beef suet pudding. The suet had not so much been steamed as nuked. My mother manfully hacked her way through the concrete casing without complaint and managed to extrude some of the beef slurry from its tomb. We were all talking and she didn't wish to ruin the occasion by complaining. But when I realised what had happened I called over the waitress. The chef was consulted and he said she could have a free dessert, another serving or 25% off the main course, but by now Sue and I had finished. I had to insist that it be removed from the bill, but when the bill came back it was wrong. Also they charged £9 for two glasses of alcohol free "cider", which smelled and tasted like Vimto. The service was cold and charmless and the restaurant itself was inadequately heated. Our starters, though, were okay and Sue's shepherd's pie was passable as was my chicken supreme. Paul the chef was apologetic but the waiting team were as chilly as an ice cream sundae. I'll not be going back any time soon. It could so easily have been a nice occasion with more attention to detail, a smile from the waiting staff and a little heat in the radiators. Perhaps a case for Gordon Ramsay?

Visited for afternoon tea with my sisters for our birthday. Sandwiches were very small and fillings not particularly nice, no marie rose sauce on prawns, yellow lettuce in caeser chicken ciabatta. Salmon fishcake missing, had to ask. Disappointed that scones were not home baked. Paid £58.50 for food which was worth £15 at best. Would not recommend or return.

I visited the restaurant with friends earlier this week and was very disappointed. Let me say firstly this is my go to place for a meal, in the past we have always been satisfied with everything about the experience but sadly this week no. The meals were not up to their usual standard my friend had the fish and chips and they were far too greasy with too much batter and not enough fish. I had the suet pudding and it came on a plate with small amount of potato and peas which were swimming in far too much gravy, maybe a separate jug of gravy. The amount of vegetables in the side dish were Spartan and overcooked, I had sticky toffee pudding which should be a warm pudding but was cold. If this had been my first visit I would not hurry back but I am hopeful that this was a one off.

Although our visit was in the depth's of recent Cold spell, and our table being positioned adjacent to a fully operational radiator. The Extreme Cold temperature endured throughout our visit definitely made us feel subdued. Despite this being topical conversation between All approx Twenty (20) diners, and bringing it to the attention of the waiting staff, No action was taken? Food was Good, and set-menu for lunch offered v.f.m. NO return visit will be planned until at least July!

We had our wedding here in December, the toll house has always been a favourite of ours and it never disappoints in service or quality of food. Everything was perfect, the staff were amazing and the food was second to none. They even catered for my autistic son which goes a long way. All our guests from across the Midlands loved the food and haven’t stopped mentioning it to us. Thanks Toll house for a fantastic day.

For a casual meal with friends and family or for celebrations this restaurant fits the bill . Christmas Eve and New Years Eve restaurant was full but service was excellent , staff are always friendly and helpful . Owners Trevor And Natalie go above and beyond to make you welcome to help with any dietary needs etc . Entertainment both evenings was excellent and cost for both evenings was well worth it .

We just had our wedding at the tollhouse and from the original booking to the day from start to finish everything was perfect. Communication was amazing nothing too much trouble. My family of 11 had an absolutely lovely birthday celebration Sunday lunch. This is our 2nd visit here and didn't disappoint..they even did us prawn cocktail starters even though they were not on this particular menu! 2 of our party had fillet steak,both said how good it was, so tender and tasty. Menu was not as on the net VERY disappointed especially it was our 45 wedding anniversary & we took another couple. It was embarrassing because they had also looked on the net to look at the menu. 5 of the normal starter not on the menu only 2 steaks no risottos or pizza (not that we would have ordered pizza) & none of the desserts other than the Eaton mess which was in fact served in a brandy basket (stated mixed fruit) but we could not find mixed fruit other than passion fruit pips which we left because it was a load of whipped cream. Things like cottage pie. Lasagna It was as if it was a lunchtime menu. Had we have known we would NOT have gone we went because of the selection on the advertised menu. I asked a member of the staff for the normal menu to which I was informed that was the menu.I said in that case it should have been altered on the net for the amount of time it was going to be their normal menu or when booking they should have informed me it would be a limited menu. Now the place was very busy (which may have been the reason for the menu) & there was a good atmosphere & we have been on several occasions which was why because our anniversary went again.VERY VERY disappointed

My husband is from Willenhall so we have friends here who eat here a few times a year. First visit was a few months ago for a night out with the girls. Polite, professional, friendly staff and I was blown away with the food. Amazing flavours. Went again in December 2021 with the Husband for the festive menu with friends. Was not disappointed. Staff were fantastic again and the food was delicious. Husband enjoyed it too and he can be a fussy sod! Looking forward to going back in the future. Wish I could pick it up and move it to Lancashire!

Service was appalling Christmas Day 2021, main meal served 2 hours after sitting down, which was 5:45 so Christmas tea more than Christmas dinner, no pudding as walked out because of the service. Cost £80, which I think was overpriced anyway and would have expected much better organisation. When I messaged that it was a disgusting service. I was told ‘to do myself a favour and f*** off’ , then told to go f*** myself and, I can put whatever reviews I like on fb and trip advisor as ‘I don’t care’. Very professional attitude. My son and I visited this evening for a celebration meal. We ate from the festive menu. The food was amazing. Very fresh, hot and more than we could eat. The chef even came out to check everything was OK. Would definitely recommend. Have booked for a birthday celebration in January.

Came here on a Saturday night for a meal. The pub itself is very charming and has a very cosy feel about it. We ore booked a table for 8pm and it was heaving when we came in which is always a good sign. The waiting staff were very attentive and polite and made the experience more enjoyable. We both had the 3 course festive menu which for £24.95 is a bargain. There were supplements to be added for certain meals. The food was delicious and was beautifully presented. The scallop starter was excellent. The steak main was cooked to perfection as was my partner's duck. Definitely would come here again no hesitation.

I've found myself and my Wife visiting the Tolle House more and more frequently, The food is stunning with a great atmosphere and friendly staff,The food is of top Quality and fresh and the menu and specials board are outstanding and wouldn't hesitate in recommending this restaurant to anyone.

First visit to this restaurant with our son and partner to celebrate his birthday. They have visited on a few occasions and highly recommended the food. It was th Xmas menu but my son has raved on about the fillet steak he's had previous and they were more than happy for him to order even though it wasn't on the menu. The rest had the roast, 2 turkey and 1 lamb, turkey was moist, roast potatoes cooked perfect..plenty of extra veg and pots supplied,(too much if I'm honest) so much so we actually took out desserts home with us to enjoy later in the day. Will definitely be back in the future.

The restaurant told us they have on site parking, they do, however there are no dedicated disabled parking bays and the car park is small, certainly not big enough to match the numbers booked inside. Being disabled with significant mobility issues this caused some distress to start with. This continued when on entering we were directed to sit in the bar, there was nowhere to sit, the room was full. We discussed whether I should go back and sit in the car until the table was ready. I decided to stand. There was no acknowledgement by staff at all. Our table was by folding doors, under an overhead heater and so close to the table next door we had to walk sideways to pass and I accidentally, knocked my neighbouring tables phone off the table with my crutch. This was despite there being signs advising to social distance, staff were also not wearing masks. Now the food, oh my, I am vegan, the restaurant advertises that they cater for both vegetarian and vegan appetites. It took them 10 minutes to find a vegan menu, all the other menus were pretty Christmas menus, mine, a plain laminated piece of white paper, and, the quorn burger was not available . I suspect they had run out of 'back up' vegan in the freezer. Very poor selection, processed food you can find in any supermarket, little evidence of actual cooking. I went for vegetable sausages (fingers crossed) vegan, parsley mash and a side of vegetables. The mash was lumpy with pieces of hard undercooked potato, the sausages generic and the vegetables too hard to cut. I complained and was told the vegetables are cooked 'al dente' which I found quite patronising, I advised al dente does not mean raw, interestingly I watched many sides of vegetables were being returned to the kitchen untouched. Come on kitchen.......'think!!!!!'. I told the manager I would not be paying for my meal, she said ' well I wasn't going to charge', some training needed I think. I was eventually offered a free dessert and drinks were removed from the bill. I declined the dessert and left. Deeply disappointed , birthday meal ruined, thank goodness for my lovely family who kept me, and themselves, laughing at the whole faulty towers set up. AVOID!!!!!!

First time we came here, our bill was overcharged by around £50 with extra drinks that we never ordered. I had some creamy chicken dish that was just a chicken breast with really sweet cream on. not goodSecond time we came here 2 nights ago, was a table of around 15. 2 of the burgers tasted funny, one of the steaks were cooked wrong, the chicken supreme had a funny aftertaste.

I visited with my family last week. We have been to The Toll House so many times over the years due to the food and service both being excellent. The last two occasions have been less so. On both occasions I had Beef Wellington which was tough and tasteless. Another in our group also had the same opinion so it wasn't only me. I left half of mine and another of our party finished it off and also said the same. My husband had Persian spiced lamb shank but whilst it was nice, there was no evidence of Persian flavours at all, just a standard lamb shank. Our starters were fabulous and the service as usual was excellent, it just seems a shame that our three mains, especially the Wellington, didn't live up to previous visits, the rest were fine. I wonder as they are individual whether they use the ends of the fillet as another in our party had fillet steak which was lovely.

We visited Ye Olde Toll House with a party of 22 to celebrate the civil partnership of my brother to his partner. We arrived to be greeted with canape's , which were very tasty indeed. After a couple of drinks at the bar we were taken upstairs to our private room to be seated for a menu choice meal. The menu was 3 courses plus cheese and biscuits and tea and coffee to follow. The menu choice was very varied and when served the portion sizes were very generous. Praise should go to the chef and his team for the presentation of the plates. Also a BIG thank you to the friendly and efficient staff that served us. We did not hear of anyone having a complaint about the food, the service nor the venue We ( 6 of us ) had traveled from Kent and would certainly visit again when visiting my brother in the future. We would also recommend Ye Olde Toll House to anyone visiting the area of Walsall.Thank you again to everyone at the venue for making the meal so special.

11th September , we attended the Toll House for my son and his friends Graduation Day meal. We arrived at the venue early for our 5 pm meal. From the minute we arrived until we left, the staff could not do enough for us. They were very attentive , friendly and curteous. 1 in the party required a gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian option, and 1 required gluten free option. This was not a problem at all for Trevor and his team. The food was superb, cooked to perfection, with a very good variety, which is difficult in any circumstances, but even more difficult when the restaurant was full. The toll house can cater for all dietary requirements. Thank you again to Trevor and his team for a great night. We will be returning again in the near future.

My husband and I went here for dinner to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and we were certainly not disappointed. The food was exceptional and substantial. I had the chicken liver, blackberry and Prosecco starter which was amazing and plentiful. We both decided to choose from the ‘specials’ board for main course and both had the swordfish steaks which were delicious. The menu is very comprehensive to suit most tastes. The service was also excellent with very attentive but unobtrusive staff. Wine list covers a wide variety and there is also a small bar for popular spirits and cocktails. It’s a really lovely and cosy place with a nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Had a brilliant night the other night with a Freddie Mercury tribute night. Lovely food. Top notch service. Trevor and Natalie truly appreciate their customers and that shows in how they run their business. If you're looking for a good night, with mouth watering food then The Toll House is for you!

We have visited here several times previously and have never been disappointed, this time we took advantage of the 50% off for teaching staff.The restaurant was well laid out and the temperature in the restaurant was perfectly cool considering the heat outside. There were 4 adults and a child in our group and we all ordered 3 courses. Each of us chose different meals and no one was let down. Service was excellent. The portions were ample if not a little too ample! Each course was served promptly allowing us plenty of time to enjoy.All meals were piping hot and presented well.The food was first class. None of us were disappointed at all. The beef Wellington and ribeye steak were cooked as requested. An excellent evening fully enjoyed by us all and we will be returning soon.

I booked this restaurant 6 weeks ago for a special occasion, on a specific date in early August. I have just been advised that my booking is cancelled with the booking given to someone else. I shall find somewhere else where customer service is respected!

Went here with my husband today as school staff get 50% food and drink. Never been here before, lovely and airy inside even when it's hot outside. Waitress was lovely. My husband has a steak which he said was stunning. We will def be back once we have slept off this food coma.

Fantastic evening, food absolutely amazing couldn't fault any of the meals, amazing fish meals and a great vegan menu. Atmosphere and service was brilliant. Great value for money Will definitely return and would recommend, thank you for a fantastic family evening

Haven't been since lockdown but the place hasn't changed excellent tasty food and polite very friendly service. Took our mind off the awful weather outside.

I visited Ye Olde Toll House Friday evening with my partner as our visit after lockdown (have been before) and the standards are even higher than my previous visit. A bigger menu with so much choice and the staff were all so polite and welcoming I had a camambert starter with garlic dough balls and a tomato chutney dip it was amazing cooked to absolute perfection and was seasoned amazingly. For my main I had the Persian spiced lamb shank with cous cous and it’s the best lamb I’ve ever eaten all credit to the chef it was lush. And dessert was also a 20/10 I had the lemon tiramisu it’s was so delightful. Ye Olde Toll House has never failed on any visit and the standards they set just for higher and higher on every visit. I love the place there’s nothing to pick faults with at all, my partner also loves the new cocktail selection they have to offer il definitely be visiting again very soon if I had to rate it out of 10 I’d give it a 20!!!

Really enjoyed my meal here! Had the Camembert to start and the lasagne for my main. It was delicious. The rest of the party enjoyed their meals too. We did think the service was a little slow but I think that is due to our large party and there was another large party who arrived at the same time as us. However, I would still visit again!

Birthday meal with the Mrs thought check place out. Greeted by friendly staff very attentive. Very clean, spaced out due to covid restrictions. Main meal rib eye. Cooked to perfection. Wish had taken pic before started eating. Presented well.Not rushed. Pleasant ambience was full but booked for meal. Desserts omg wonderful cheese cake and choclate orange profiteroles. Now thats what i did take pic of . Would i dine there again ohhhh yes. And will have the lobster. If this place was situated in the countryside would be perfect. Cant fault staff or the meal. Big thumbs up. Chef to be congratulated for wonderful meals and presentation

Just had Sunday lunch at ye old toll house again, the food was amazing so tasty and fresh, the staff are brilliant so attentive and friendly, would highly recommend this place for any occasion, absolutely superb

Went for a family Father’s Day meal, from the start to finish the staff were great and on it! I have to say it’s one of the best meals I’ve had and being in the industry I’m blown away. The food was absolutely amazing and so were the staff. Clean and beautiful too. We will definitely be back. We have found a little hidden gem. Thank you so much.

Just been to the toll house for the 1st time. Won't b the last either. The menu was so varied. Lots of choice. Staff great. Helpful and attentive. Food delicious. Portion size generous.

This is the best eatery in the west midlands by a country mile , we was served by Natalie what a absolute gem she was and a great asset to the company , food is to die for I challenge anyone to not find something to eat on the menu .

I don’t eat meat, and usually order the lovely salmon, but fancying a change, decided to be cheeky and ask for a BESPOKE meal.Happily, this was absolutely no problem.The chef asked what foods I like, and offered the following:- Mushrooms en croute, mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, cabbage, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and a creamy mild garlic sauce.It was wonderfully tasty, so inexpensive, arrived on time, and was actually enough for two meals !Excellent service again, many thanks

What a Delicious Roast dinner this was. Family of four, 3 lamb and 1 combination.Came really well presented, piping hot and well packaged.Truly enjoyed it, will definitely be having this again.Can always count on the quality and High standard that is provided by Ye olde Toll House.Trevor and Nat, always makeSure it is perfect for you.

Had the Valentines High Tea delivered today - brilliant. It arrived spot on time in two large boxes tied in ribbon. One savoury, one sweet - fantastic value and there’s too much to list here but particular highlights, the beef and horseradish filled Yorkshire’s, the homemade sausage rolls and lamb scotch egg. From the sweet box the strawberry pavlovas and the chocolate orange eclairs. Well made, tasty and a real treat- well done to the team at the Toll house.

It's been a long time since I've eaten at the Toll House and I've always had a great time in the restaurant. Only recently I learned that they deliver food so on my birthday - end of January - I thought I'd give the delivery service a go. Me and my son ordered the beer battered haddock & chips, mushy peas, tartare sauce now we are Whitby fans so fish is always a favourite wherever we go. Toll House did not let us down. The fish were thick with big white flakes they was delicious - just how a good fish should be and the tartare sauce was amazing too! I have a big appetite and this stuffed me up lol

This was our second meal delivered during lockdown, last friday we had fish and chip deal for 2 including choice of dessert ,and bottle of wine £30, food was exellent,Tonight we had steak night,2 sirlion steaks,2 desserts and bottle of wine £40,exellent value steaks included onion rings mushrooms and tomato and choice of sauce, also we asked for peas,no problem.Everthing was perfect and good service.Delivery was on time (£3) will be ordering again and would definatley recomendWine was good choice Pinot Grigio with fish and Merlot with steak

The Singer, Dayton, was excellent. The food, as always, Superb. My Steak was gorgeous and my Sister's seafood she told me was lovely. The welcome and the service could not be beaten. Ye Olde Toll House has long been my favourite UK restaurant and as far as I am concerned retains 'my' 5 stars. I used to entertain colleagues from the UK, France and Germany here for dinner and it was always highly rated. Thank You!

Wonderful night. The meal was excellent and they created a pleasant atmosphere, with attentive staff. The Motown act was very good. All at a reasonable price.

Booked this Afternoon Tea as a treat for our granddaughter . The waitress was lovely and they were very friendly. They had all the proper precautions in place. The first problem was drinks very expensive, we had to ask for sandwiches also for the cakes and only had one cup of coffee each. Was never offered more. Was not worth the money
