Ye Old Buck Inn in Broadland

We have used Honningham Buck regularly over the past 30 years and seen many people come and go. Very few were bad. However our last 3 visits have left us disappointed and after tonight’s visit it is unlikely we will return for the foreseeable! The choice on menu is very poor. Everything on offer is over exaggerated basic food! The starter, scotch egg with piccalilli was the best offering, but no where near as good as it used to be? Our main meal sounded great on the menu, but in actual fact consisted of piece of chicken in breadcrumbs on a flatbread with some shriveled mushroom, fermented cabbage, and a chopped up chilli. The quality was poor, and the flavour very unpleasant! Dessert, I chose a Bakewell and pistachio tart with mascarpone and I requested ice cream instead of sorbet. Thank goodness I did! The tart was tasteless and the mascarpone was laughable…it looked like the top of a baby gem!! Literally a teaspoon! What’s happened to the delicious food that used to be on offer here? There is no quality to the food served. It’s certainly not what it used to be!

Great pub, super friendly staff and food was excellent (cracking burger). Fully recommend and suitable for families. Children’s menu available with good options. Will be back for sure.

Great pub food served here, a wide range of choice, staff efficient and friendly. Good choice of wines alongside the traditional British beers.

We had heard so many good things about this pub/restaurant, so we decided to celebrate my birthday. We had a very friendly welcome and I was presented with a glass of Prosecco but my wife wasn’t - strange I thought but it was a freebie We were not offered water. The starters were very nice. The main courses very quickly followed, only about 3 mins after we finished our starters . We wondered if they wanted us out quickly to accommodate other diners. I had chicken with fries which were heavily and I mean heavily salted , which dominated the taste of the meal and really spoilt it. My wife had cottage pie which was quite dry and was in need of some gravy. We had apple turnover for dessert which was ok. We told the waitress about our experience who did apologise but came out with that annoying platitude “ I will tell the chef” which means that either she won’t bother to say anything or she will and the chef will simply ignore our feedback . We had planned to book Sunday lunch there but have decided against it So disappointing

Beautiful restaurant area, attentive staff, excellent starters but the main meal was very average. We were in and out in just over 40 minutes. My wife has a chicken dish with satay sauce which was a tasteless sludge, I had a sirloin steak which was barely O.K. We did not bother with desserts. On the whole the meal was very average.

Had a one night stay at this location for our anniversary and everything was brilliant. The food, the wine, the room. All amazing. Many thanks to Harriet, Connor, Conrad and Lee who cooked delicious food and looked after us so well.

Fabulous.. we popped in here for a drink in the garden, lovely friendly place. We came here for dinner as another venue couldn’t accommodate numbers! I’m pleased they couldn’t. As we had a fabulous meal, excellent service too. The menu is brilliant not too large but a variety of flavours and cuisines.. excellent country pub/hotel! I had the Moroccan lamb, excellent flavours, my husband had the fish finger and chips, the batter was light like a tempura. Thank You

We were a party of six, we all had various roast dinners. Everyone commented on the excellence of vegetable variety, tasty meats or nut roasts, and presentation - the Yorkshire puds are huge but light, the gravy brilliant. Add to this the friendly and efficient service, the great pub atmosphere (we were in the main bar area) and you have the epitome of a perfect English Sunday Lunch.

We came at 1530 and it had quietened down. We were able to sit in a covered area outside and those of us who wanted sunshine could have it and those who wanted shade could also enjoy it. The beef roast was tender and succulent and came with a giant Yorkshire pudding and a selection of vegetables including cauliflower cheese. You really couldn’t fault it and I ate the lot even though it was a large portion 😂😍 We couldn’t even fit in dessert 😂

Excellent service and Food. Stayed in a very comfortable room decorated nicely to the theme of the pub. Food was excellent well cooked perfectly seasoned and well presented. Highlights for me Black pudding scotch egg with a deeply coloured yellow yolk. Nicely dressed Cromer crab with a good salad and celeriac remoulalde. Wonderfully light plum pudding and ice cream . I wish wish all pubs could turn out Food as good as this. Well done to the Chef and great service team.

I stayed at the Honingham Buck for 2 nights to facilitate my attendance at The Royal Norfolk Show. My room (Encore) was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. During a warm spell in June, I was pleased to find the room was fully air conditioned. The rear of the accommodation has a small private patio area which forms part of the beer garden. A really nice, comfortable room which was spacious and perfect to for my needs. I ate in the restaurant for both nights and staff were really friendly and accommodating. The first night was a taco starter followed by fish and chips. The second night was a salmon and crème fraiche tart follow by a really tasty king prawn green curry (and sticky toffee pudding dessert). The food was really good quality and reasonably priced. I had booked my table for both nights but staff were able to be slightly flexible with timings as I arrived early on both occasions. In summary, a really nice accommodation in a quiet Norfolk village with a team of staff who are focused on providing a really good service. Highly recommended. Thanks ☺️

Popped into The Honingham Buck on Sunday lunch time, as driving past on our way back from The Sandringham Half Marathon. Didn't realise we had to book. However, the lovely waitress kindly put in our orders. The food was presented so well, and tasted delicious,as we ate outside in the sun. The staff went above and beyond to fit us in and serve us. We will be back😊

Had Sunday lunch .The roast beef was cooked perfectly and the Yorkshire pudding was amazing , and the rest of the food and service was loverly.

This is now my favourite place to stay and especially to eat in the whole of England. Started with the chicken, followed by the pork belly, and finished with the excellent cheese board, featuring Baron Bigod. But TBH, I will be coming back to taste the rest of the menu, because it's fabulous. Every single mouthful I've had this evening has been exquisite - there is clearly excellence in this kitchen. A big thank you to the staff, but to whoever is working that magic in the kitchen - you're a genius, and I cannot wait to come here again. BTW, always a sign of a good place to stay is if they have Baron Bigod on the menu. Those are the rare places that understand how to treat a visitor. Honingham Buck deliver that by the bucketload. Truly excellent food. Sat in the bar near fire. Fish fingers were lovely as was my wife's aubergine dish. The service was very professional and friendly. Excellent real Lacon ales, although would have liked a stronger draught beer. Thanks for a lovely evening!

Had a two night stay here at the weekend. What a superb place, the staff were excellent, as was the food in the restaurant, truly outstanding. One minor gripe and it’s a suggestion rather than a complaint………The dusting could have been more thorough, in particular around the air con unit it the bedroom. Still highly recommend though.

Only live a few miles away in Norwich, but booked an overnight stay as attending a party in the village hall. The rooms are in a separate and reasonably new building next to the pub. Our room was fitted with high quality furniture and bedding. Checked in and shown to the room by a very friendly and helpful young man behind the bar. Had a very good freshly cooked breakfast with pots of tea and toast made with nice bread. They only have about eight rooms, so it's all freshly prepared, no buffet and having to make your own toast and get tea and coffee from a machine etc. Be careful when booking, looking at the photos for the type of room I selected it seemed like there would be a shower, but there was actually a bath with a overhead shower. As my partner has hip problems he did not use the facilities as really needed a walk in shower. You need a car if staying here, apart from the pub there is nothing else in the village.

Visited this lovely quaint pub for lunch and went for the basic rolls but same with chips which were lovely and a nice side salad. Only issue is the rolls were very hard which we both did not eat. My partner had the bacon and chicken and I had the steak and binham blue. We asked if we could have them on wholemeal and thought that meant a sandwich not rolls our error but have to say the food was great except the hard rolls. Went to pay and the staff knocked our drinks off the bill which they did not have to do. Would thoroughly recommend visiting here again and we will do. Def give the service and food 10/10 as they were all exceptional in all ways.

The food at the Honingham Buck is some of the best gastropub food there is in the area, by a country mile, but….’pub’ creeps into the description and therein lies the problem. At the bar when we went there for a meal the noise from a group of people (who looked like regulars) drowned out the ambience of the murmur of eaters. In particular one quite tall guy, in shorts at the bar (I mean come on, you let men in with shorts to where people are eating?!) bellowed rather than spoke, and had a laugh like a cockerel being castrated. We had to move. It’s a shame because that group and in particular that person is destroying the atmosphere for the majority of customers who eat in the bar area. I shall not be going back.

Been here many times before and always received a warm welcome however on this occasion we were served by a female that barely spoke to us. She appeared extremely frosty and stand offish. Food was great but due to the very poor and unwelcoming atmosphere I shall not be returning or recommending.

We went with high expectations as have had excellent meals in the past, only to be disappointed this time. We had Chicken with chorizo the chicken was very nice but the Potatoes and the chorizo were overcooked to the point of being nearly burnt. The service was very pleasant however. Would I go back? No not in a hurry could do much better

Beautiful setting and polite staff. Food was ok but average. Drinks expensive as a white wine spritzer was £1 more than our usual pub for a 125ml glass of wine and on top of that another £1 added for a dash of soda! Added to which the spritzer seemed so weak I couldn't really taste any wine.

The meal we got was just warm.Turkey was formed. Beef was stringy.Batter Puddings was Soggy.Roast Potatoes wasnt good.We was all looking forward to our meal and disappointed when we got it. Chairs was highly stained!

I found this little gem whilst looking for somewhere to stay on the day of our trip to the Mid Norfolk Polar Express. It is the most beautiful village, and the pub is lovely, I instantly wished I’d booked two nights so we enjoy it for longer and explore the area. Check in and payment all done online so we literally picked up the keys at the bar and were shown to our room, it was lovely and warm and all made up ready with the sofa bed for the children. We need to take a moment to talk about our bed - we have a king at home, and it’s a nice one with a good mattress so normally I expect to miss it but oh my days, the bed was HUGE and soooo comfortable! It felt like my husband was miles away and I had a whole bed to myself! The wet room bathroom was really nice, smelt amazing, and included shampoo and conditioner plus a body wash and stacks of fluffy towels. We were heading out for the PE early evening so timings didn’t work for dinner, but we had breakfast there which was as good as we expected. The kids loved carefully helping themselves to juice and cereal which was on the bar, there was stacks of hot toast and butter, we had an English breakfast which is undoubtedly the best I’ve ever eaten. We knew the locally sourced sausages and bacon were going to be good but the scrambled eggs I had were delicious! We are so grateful to everyone at the HB for our stay, it was really special, my husband particularly loved the winter beer, and lamented the fact that he did not have a wet dog sat by his feet as he rested in a chair by the fire. It is a perfect example of a traditional English pub, and we will definitely be back again.

We stayed two nights for a visit to The Polar Express. Arrived Friday night and had dinner in the restaurant - really good quality food and the staff were wonderful. We were shown to our family room which was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was good, although some fruit and child-friendly cereal options would have been good. But what we had was very good quality again. Would definitely stay again

Excellent from the word go - such a warm welcome, lovely setting and comfy chairs. The food was excellent, great choices and all enjoyed! The service was attentive, friendly and professional - just as it should be. All in all an excellent experience. This was our first visit but it most definitely won't be our last!

We stayed at the Honingham Buck for two nights and ate dinner in both nights. The room was very comfortable, we opted for one of the smaller rooms but thought it was plenty big enough for us and very good value for money, the room rates are low compared to most places these days and included breakfast - either full English or a few other choices. The food in the evenings surpassed expectations. It was creative, tasty and plentiful, service was excellent with an exceptionally pleasant team of people. We will without doubt return within the not too distant future. Good location for Norwich and local national trust properties.

The food, service and beer were all excellent. My wife had the cheese and onion tartlet and loved it, my squid starter was very good too. My steak was superb and my wife's sea bream was excellent. The beer was well kept. Service was pleasant and in good time. Great night's dining experience.

The most delicious roast beef I’ve had in a long time! If you like pink, beautifully cooked sirloin, whopping Yorkshire puddings and a good selection of vegetables with cauliflower cheese, this is definitely the place for you!

the place was very busy: no matter, the serving staff and kitchen were on to it, and we were served in very reasonable time. Always a good point. We had a selection of starters....no problems for the staff.....and all were of a high standard. Lacon's beer is not one I have tried before, but it went well with the meal. Shared a dessert. This is good quality pub fiood, served promptly, and at competitive prices. Well worth it.

Thought I would give the Honningham Buck a look, booked a meal for 2, nice place, was seated next the the open fire. We both ordered the Beef Stew. Portion size was exceptionally small, my wife asked for additional mash potato. It would have been quite a simply thing to pack the meal out with some additional veg. This would have filled the plate. We were both very disappointed. Pricey for what we actually received on the plate.

We are somewhat local to the Honingham Buck so maybe a little bias, that said, tonight’s meal and service could have been twice the price and we would have gladly paid. To say it was perfect…. Ok I will, it was.

The Honingham Buck continues to provide a great experience. The setting is cozy but there's still the feeling of being safe. Attention to detail is very apparent. The staff are all very attentive and informed. The Lacons beer selection is great. The menu whilst not huge (a good thing) is very well thought out along with Gluten Free options and everything is cooked superbly. Its so good we booked again for the next week for a family birthday and again everyone was very impressed.

We had dinner at The Buck and were impressed! The menu was well varied with a good choice of wines at sensible prices. The staff are engaged, cheerful, informative and helpful. We’ll definitely go back.

Had a lovely meal here last night. Fabulous food well presented. Staff welcoming and friendly. Great ambience either in the bar or the restaurant, you can eat in both. Great find, we'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

First post-Covid visit, this time for a family celebration. Food superb: tasty, well presented,and done to perfection. Sea bream, steak, chick pea stew and other dishes all melt-in-the-mouth gorgeous.Unfortunately however, the service here appears to have taken a serious downturn by comparison with previous visits, starting with the young lady behind the bar who was was far too busy restocking a fridge to even acknowledge us when we arrived, preferring to 'blank' us whilst she finished attending to what were clearly more important matters.We were seated at a large table in an semi-private alcove, which was appreciated until we realised that it just emphasised the lack of attention from the staff: no-one bothered to ask if our meals were OK, we had to ask if we could order dessert ,and in the end we decided to forgo the post-prandial coffee & drinks we might otherwise have ordered, rather than go and seek out a member of staff who was prepared to oblige.Pity, the evening could have been so much more memorable had the staff just been a bit more attentive, rather than employees who seemed to want to get the job done with the minimum of effort. Will we return? Frankly, doubt it, when there are so many other restaurants who make you feel like valued customers to be 'looked after'.

We had a lovely meal and the scotch egg with black pudding to die for and a great pint of lacons! One downside and beware, I saw some heritage lacons bottled beer for sale on bar and thought Christmas, so bought some! 2 Nog,2 Imperial stout and a Yarmouth strong ale. The price was a hefty £12.50 but I thought bottle decent wine v decent beer OK no problem. However, stupidly, I checked lacons website, when I got home to read more about them and wish I hadn't! As they were only £8.50 or less... Come one £4 profit on a bottle of beer is daylight robbery!!!

Very disappointing visit for lunch today. Portions were small, ingredients were cheap and the food was just warm. Very expensive for what you get. Can't recommend - sorry.
