Yauatcha in City of London, Westminster

Chairs are too low, if you are below 5’3 then I guess it will be comfortable. The chairs are too small as well making it difficult to sit. Place is so loud and overstimulating the tables are next to each other. The portions are so small, only one spring roll and one bun in the spirit menu, portions are a joke for a normal person. Beef was cold and poorly seasoned, fish tasted artificial, best dish would be the plain rice. Long time waiting, only to receive mid quality food, a 5/10 at best and only tastes good because from waiting so long that the food becomes edible. I would never go back to this place ever again. Blacklock is only five minutes away, so is Koya and Taro…

Food was good some was a little under seasoned but still good. Presentation could use work a bit simple for me. A bit dark also not too much lighting over all should be 4.3.

It's delicious, but the portion is a bit too much. The atmosphere in the restaurant is good, but it may be a bit noisy because there are more people during meal time. The food is as shown in the picture, but the first picture was taken when we were halfway through eating, so some of the food is missing 😂

Regular restaurant of choice, having dined here over the past ten years the service and quality remains. Friendly servers who take time getting to know you/likes/dislikes but aren't overpowering on your experience. Standout dishes are the plan and beancurd Cheung fun, venison puff and Scallop and prawn stir fry. Cocktails great and wine choices are well priced. Top location for all London has to offer. Definitely recommend

Excellent service. The atmosphere was nice minus the screaming kids that were climbing up and down the banquet seating. The food was great! I have had better Chinese food at a much cheaper price point hence the 4 star rating. I got the vegan set menu which was a great way to try lots of dishes.

I had a wonderful dinner with my wife and two friends. The service was impeccable, attentive without being overbearing. The dumplings were delicious as were the noodles. The drinks offering was great, I wasn’t drinking and they have some excellent non-alcoholic options. The Jade Highball was 😘👌

Absolutely loved my experience at Yauatcha. The dim sum was excellent and the ambience was superb. The cheung fun was to die for and is a must order and so is the soft shell crab - either in the bao bun or by itself. The servers also brought out a little birthday macaroon once they found out it was my brother's birthday which was a lovely touch.

The place looks nice, but that’s it. As a HKer, I didn’t have expectations of it matching the flavour that you get back in Hong Kong, but the food was mediocre at best. I’ve had better food in other Chinese restaurants in London’s Chinatown at a way more affordable price. This restaurant slaps on fancy ingredients on its menu and raises the price exorbitantly, but is lacking in taste and quality. The cheong fun and har gow’s skin is mushy and soggy, the siu mai was almost bland and the venison puff’s pastry was soggy and gross. The atmosphere is very strange as well, normally dim sum is served with Chinese teas, but people seem to enjoy theirs with alcohol instead. Overall, zero authenticity, unreasonably high price for lacklustre food. I do not recommend this place.

Update October 24. Service got much better. Food as always delicious. Much note welcoming and friendly people ❤️ Update 15 April 2022 Refused to find a place able but the area was 70% empty. Said can book you in 2 hours 🤦🏻‍♀️, i looked around and asked “why? The restaurant is empty” the reply “we don’t have enough people to serve you” 🤷🏻‍♀️ every time i come with a friend who gives generous tips they always have a table….. my favourite since 2011

Amazing Food with a very hospitable service.

Excellent! It was my second time dining there. We got to enjoy a cocktail at the bar first. The cocktails were very nice. My favourite was the lychee cocktail. We had a nice corner table downstairs, which in my opinion is the nicer floor. The atmosphere is dark and sexy. The service was outstanding. Shout out to Nicole for taking such good care of our table. All of the staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. They did a great job in explaining all of the different dishes. The dumplings are just delicious and I would definitely recommend. Our Favorit was the prawn and chive dumpling, as well as the lobster dumpling. We also had the prawn wontons and the mushroom Chung fun, which are so tasty and worth a try. As main dishes we went for the fish curry and rib eye beef. Both dishes were full of flavour and we enjoyed every bite of it. The egg fried rice and Singapore noodles were very good. The wine was excellent and the wine menu was extensive. The price was reasonable. The overall experience was amazing! For sure I’ll be back!

Yummy food but way too expensive. Alcohol free cocktail - £13.65 random price?! Very busy and noisy. Hot also. 2 babies also with families at 9pm. I also mentioned my birthday twice and no acknowledgment. Such a shame!

Got sat at the basement, feel crowded. I guess all London is like that in the area. Very expensive. Food is 7/10.

Fantastic service in a smart room ( ground floor ) - be sure to request ground floor when you book. Booking essential as busy Wednesday lunchtime Food is just outstanding - presentation and taste. Portion sizes ok Cost £210 for 3 which I thought was great value for a real feast with multiple dishes served in courses Right in heart of soho so lots of atmosphere 15 min walk from ox circus tube

I came here for dinner on a Friday night with a friend, we got sat downstairs which was quite pack and the staff kindly offered to hang our jackets. Since it was so packed with no room for me to even fold my jacket next to me, I've decided to hand in my brand new £4k suede jacket to the staff. I just realised the sleeve has pen marks on it this morning and I only worn it that evening, it was brand new!

Overpriced restaurant compared to the level of quality. No differentiation, no refinement. No better than a street fast food restaurant. Never again. Aging place.

Was drizzling …still got 90mins before my dinner appt..went into here to have a light dim sum and a bottle of beer to escape the rain and while away the time …siew mai i had though fresh and tasty is the most expensive siew mai , compared to siew mai in HK, Macau,Malaysia, Singapore, China, Thailand, Taiwan restaurants 🤣🤣🤣

The dumplings and dim sums are superb, the best I've had. The duck is also really excellent. However you don't get a lot for the price. The desserts are beautiful but their taste is only ok

Credit where it is deserved the kitchen operates with commendable precision and on all occasions we have visited the food was great. In stark contrast is the service. Each time the staff see inattentive lack any real service or care and generally carry a rather poor attitude. Almost to a point where just not worth visiting unfortunately. On the last occasion the washrooms were in a poor state as was the manners on display. Not asking for the world just basic kindness towards paying guests.

After some business meetings, we were so hungry and went into this place which was taken by my friend. It was my first time and it wasn’t the usual Chinese decoration but it was nicely done. We walked in with no booking and it was not a problem. Dim sum combo was tasty with fancy colours, the other 2 dishes were also delicious. Tea is yummy too. The price in comparison is on a high end so it was a good job food and service reflects on the price.

A local resident recommended it, so I made a reservation at The Fork in advance. It's expensive and the portions are really small (3 dim sum pieces and 2 crispy duck rolls), but it's really delicious and the staff are friendly so I enjoyed it.

My boyfriend took me for dinner for my birthday and it was so lovely! The service was top notch, the house signature cocktails to die for, and the food was unlike anything I've had before! The dim sum were incredible, especially the cheng fun. The atmosphere is very trendy and cool as well, perfect for date night or a special occasion.

Had an anniversary meal here. Delicious food and good service. I think the fried and baked dim sum were favourites for us, but everything was great. We definitely overordered with the Harmony menu (and they warned us it would be a lot!), but it did at least mean we had lunch and dinner sorted the next day...

Read a lot of good reviews about this restaurant. So we decided to go to dinner at the place for our first evening of our London stay. The place is nicely decorated. Our table was in the basement but it’s ok too. The service is very nice. Almost exceptional! We took one set menu. We didn’t like the quality of the food. Sea bass fish was tasteless, the pak choi was cheap quality. Dim sum was ok, beef quality was very nice but the recipe was like any Chinese fast-food, and the Sanbei chicken was not nice quality as well. So for that price we won’t recommend this restaurant. The French dessert was good but very small.

Celebrating my 30th here was really wonderful - Jacamo was really helpful and kind and explained each element of the Harmony Menu and the food was just amazing - a really wonderful way to celebrate! Thank you!

An exceptionally good Chinese, the food was excellent!! We were here for the second time and our expectations were always met. On the ground floor it can get a little louder when the store is full, but in the basement it seemed to be significantly emptier and therefore quieter.

Such an awful dining experience…… 😡 I was hoping for an authentic Chinese restaurant with a decent atmosphere when I booked a place at Yauatcha and took my clients there. But it turned out to be the biggest mistake I've made recently. This restaurant provided everything completely opposite as to what I was hoping for. It was ooookolooverpriced even for London and for SOHO. The lighting was so poor and dim. The food was only just ok and not at all matched their price. 3 small dishes for 66£??????? There was not a single Chinese waiter or waitress (no discrimination. But for a Chinese restaurant not having any Chinese staff is a BIG RED FLAG) Overall: Totally disappointed, won’t recommend it to anyone, not worth your money, just don’t go there. I have no idea where all the good reviews come from.

A shame, it was always a classic. The food was horrible, the fish was greasy when fried, the rice was bland, the noodles were soggy with soy... a shame. It's over. Die of success.

We booked a celebratory lunch for my daughter's birthday.We had eaten here many years ago when it was owned by mr Yau and the food was then excellent..However,now the restaurant and its food are a pale shadow of what it once was...we ordered 2 set menus and a couple of extra dishes between the 3 of us..to be honest, the food was mediocre at best and completely overpriced..We sent back one dish as the coating/batter was stale tasting and it was replaced with another dish which was also inedible.My daughter ordered a "Mocktail" and it was indeed a mockery..please see photo of this drink before and after the massive iceberg within was lifted up(priced at £12) The only redeeming feature of this place is the staff/service who were friendly and efficient but sadly let down by the kitchen and surely,ultimately,the management.We made our thoughts clear to the waitress and on leaving a very pleasant reception manager spoke to us and offered us apologies and her business card but no remedy. The Bill,by the way,was £262. Avoid this place like the plague.

Wonderful food, unbelievable service

The food could have been better, the dishes we're overly bulked up with red peppers and onions, both things that I like, but where is the variety? Also the protein in all the dishes was used quite sparingly. Presentation was also a bit underwhelming considering the price of the meal. The service however was the real let down, my waiter wasn't knowledgeable about the menu or drinks and wasn't able to make good recommendations, this is down to training, so the waiter isn't to blame. On top of this, when I signaled one of the managers to come over quickly, he looked at me an then flat out ignored me! No one came to me once while I was sitting with my family to ask me how my meal was and if everything was okay. When I finished, I paid up and walked out, again the waiter and manager didn't bother to say goodbye. Overall, they've dropped the ball since the last time I went and I won't be going there again, a real shame because I used to enjoy Yauatcha.

This restaurant was a unique adventure in dining for us. As an American with my Chinese wife, we wanted to have dim sum in London and we are happy we chose Yauatcha. It is very different from the usual dim sum that we may enjoy in San Francisco or Guangzhou or Hong Kong. We had the Supreme Dim Sum combination plus some side dishes. Each dish is a creation inspired by Chinese dishes with unique additions from the chef's imagination. They were all excellent, each a work of art and a unique taste experience. We see why they earned a Michelin star.

Food is very good though a bit pricey and not a lot of varieties. Service is warm and attentive.

We came here for dinner on the recommendation of a friend. Visiting Yauatcha is a must for him every single time he's in London and now I know why. Cantonese cuisine and dim sum of the highest quality! A real treat and an unforgettable experience of Asian cuisine. We'll definitely be back next time we're in London.

Super ambience surreal Beautiful place

The Cheung fun (the sliced white roll) is to die for. Special mention to the pink and the green dumplings too (seafood black truffle and mushroom but I can remember which was which). The venison puff is very good too, but is obviously less exotic (not to mention authentic) as tastes just like a very good pie. While looking great and cute in their goldfish shape and color, the sea bass dumplings are just that, which is of course taste fresh and good. Siu mai dumplings and Char Siu buns were as expected. Overall, I find the restaurant better and more authentic than Hakkasan, with similar levels of service and atmosphere (I personally prefer Yauatcha’s decor, but this is a matter of taste). Maybe it was because of the street market, but the outdoor seating area was smaller and less nice than in my memories, so we took the offer to seat inside. Downstairs is nice, but ask to be seated on the ground floor if you prefer a brighter environment.

Solid dim-sum but ambiance and service lacking.

Very delicious Asian food specialized in Dim Sum. Everything we tried was very delicious. The crab baths, the spectacular dumplings and the very delicious duck.

Food was hit and miss. Dim sum was really yummy, but the soft shell crab was gross - tasted like pond water (the fact that we ordered the bao and was mistakenly given the crab added salt to the wound. Tho we didn’t bother complaining so can’t hold that against them). The noodles were bland and oily. Also I expected more of a nice atmosphere for such a high end restaurant.

Pretty nice food and super good service. But! Overpriced and small portions. Din Tai Fung is probably better and Ye Ye’s too (and less pricier).

To be honest pretty underwhelming , the dim sum we ordered was good except one dish with lettuce and soy mince which made no sense . It was like they forgot how to cook it and dumped it in a bowl. The occasion was a special one for me and my wife so it was more about enjoying the moment ,but the service started off great with a kind polite lady in a head scarf taking our order , taking interest and holding polite conversation but then halfway though the meal we got some sweaty bumbling idiot who wouldn’t leave us alone to enjoy our meal . Constantly interrupting us and then tried to bring the desert menu out when we still had dishes to come . Basically fishing for tips in the most obvious rude way . Really disappointed this kind of service should not be acceptable and quite frankly embarrassing. The manager who was in the floor seemed more interested in talking to her friends than sorting this out. Don’t make the mistake I made there’s better food and dining experiences London at this price it’s just become tourist trap

Great atmosphere, we sat downstairs, they managed to create a unique atmosphere at a lower ground floor, which isn’t obvious. Food was very high quality, but not justifying the price.

Had a meal here with the family last night. A classy restaurant compared to the others that we’ve been in Soho. The price would reflect that. We enjoyed the food especially the cheung fun with crispy bean curd wrap. The toilet is clean. We were sat at the level below. The oolong tea was nice, it has a hint of fruitiness to it.

The most unforgettable impression is noise. It was so noisy that we could barely hear each other. Foods are pale and plain, most of the dim sums taste similar and indistinguishable. Yet without ordering wine or lobster, three of us paid £250 for the meal. I would rated it outrageous.

Wir haben uns aufgrund der Eismengen für Tee und deutsches Bier entschieden. Das deutsche Bier hatte jedoch mit deutschem Bier nichts gemeinsam und schien extra für den Export gebraut worden zu sein. An dem Essen gibt es nichts zu kritisieren. Auch das schwarze Interieur trifft unseren Geschmack. Außerordentlich schöne Desserts. ABER: für unsere Ohren ist der Lärmpegel nicht erträglich. Wir möchten uns beim Essen in Ruhe unterhalten können. Der Krach stresst unsere Ohren. Dies ist auch der einzige Kritikpunkt.

The food was amazing, as was the service! We got there as one of the last bookings of the night, so had to order quickly, however the service was still great. The atmosphere was alright! We were in the big booth so the chairs were quite low with the table, but other than that, still comfortable enough. Would highly recommend!

The price is expensive, and after trying it once, you may not come back again. I ordered pan-fried lamb, soft-shell crab buns (there were only two buns) and venison puff pastry, but the sauce was too thick and I couldn't taste the different meats. I originally wanted to order blue crab dumplings, but the waiter said they were out of stock, so I ordered soft-shell crab dumplings instead. Later, when I checked out, the price of the dumplings was included in the price, which was outrageous. I specifically asked the soft shell crab bun not to be spicy, so I poured hot sauce on it when it was served. The waiter specially led me to the basement. It was dark and I couldn’t see clearly.

Food was not good. Just mediocore dimsum experience. It's not a good sign when you walk into a dimsum place and the vibe is a modern night club. Also their chairs are extremely dangerous. I tried to get into my chair and hit the corner of the arm rest that is solid metal and fractured my sacrum. a restaurant shouldn't have chairs like this.

Amazing service, experience and delicious food. We had one of the set menus, and it was quality food from beginning until end. The occasion was a birthday and we received a personalised "birthday" dessert.

Remains one of my favourite restaurants in London! I’ve been coming here for years and have to say the experience pre pandemic wasn’t as good as it had been for a number of years but it is most definitely back on track! Food, service and environment was excellent. I’m surprised it wasn’t as busy as I’ve seen it in years gone by but assume that’s due to the very mediocre Ivy across the road. Would chose Yauatcha over Ivy any day as service and food surpasses by far.

Returned after 5 years It’s a totally different experience Dim sum is not as tasty it’s closer to the Hongkie style low salt low oil low fat taste style. Food is over priced, with this price you can get much more quality food from another restaurant. The taste is below standard, you can get much more good and quality food at random Chinese restaurants in china town. But at least the service is good.

Have been many times, recently an impromptu trip with family on a Saturday lunchtime. Previously had a fantastic meal in February but this was not so good. Service was a bit hit and miss, but good natured and polite, not always been the case before. Dim Sum starters excellent with particular highlights the Venison Puffs ,Char Siu Bao and Prawn Toast. Crispy Aromatic Duck with pancakes had an odd coating and was not particularly Aromatic. Mains were just about OK, Sweet and Sour Pork, Beef in Black Bean (the best main) and Spiced Aubergine, but not up to the standard we had at our last visit. Enjoyable, in part because of familiarity, but suspect we will try an alternative Chinese next time as the price point here does not reflect what we ate on this visit.

This is my 6th visit to Yauatcha. I come every time I visit London and it never fails to disappoint. I think it's the best Asian restaurant in the UK. The food is outstanding. Every single dish. Particular mention to the Wagyu beef puffs, steamed prawns and sesame prawn toast. Great atmosphere, attentive staff. Highly recommend a visit.

The dinner here was quite good. The atmosphere is very cool with lots of lights on the ceiling, a fish tank, etc. The staff was friendly and efficient. Kanitta was very mindful about our food intolerances and preferences. The supporting staff were also very kind and helpful. I liked that you could somewhat see through into the kitchen to see that the food was prepared fresh and hygienic. The food itself was quite good but we have had better food overall. I’d recommend the truffle bao and vegetarian dim sum!

Food was quality. They didn't have any air-conditioning. So it was roasting. Should be a problem for a fine dining restaurant. It was very pricy but the food was overall good.

It is a must-have for Asian Chinese food with great taste and variety. I've known him for a long time and I find the food and service outstanding. To put an aspect of improvement: I have the impression that a few years ago it was a place with an atmosphere not as casual as it seemed to me this time. And they should improve the acoustics of the place, it is difficult to talk to your partner about the noise there is.

Despite its apparent acclaim, our experience at Yauatcha Soho fell far short of expectations. The restaurant was excessively noisy, with surplus staff loitering about. We were relegated to a cramped table in the basement, situated awkwardly beneath the stairs, despite empty tables on the ground floor. The constant stream of passers-by made it nearly impossible to enjoy our meal without being jostled. While the food itself was of commendable quality—fresh and flavourful—the overall ambiance detracted significantly from the dining experience. Regrettably, we won't be revisiting Yauatcha Soho anytime soon, as the disturbances, whether intentional or not, overshadowed the culinary offerings. Additionally, the bustling marketplace noise only exacerbated the situation. For those seeking a tranquil dining experience, we would recommend exploring other options in the area.

Gyeonnyang Gyunryeyu. If there is a mole, it's a joke.

I thought Yauatcha might be similar to Hakkasan but I was mistaken. Hakkasan is much better in every way. At Yauatcha Soho, we sat downstairs. We were celebrating our anniversary, but were seated between 2 loud groups. The food was brought out quickly, but it all felt quite rushed. We had pretty much finished in an hour. The food is ok but nothing special. There was only one dessert without gelatin, so we decided to get that to share. But we weren’t told that it would be incredibly tiny and that we should consider getting one each. Having a bite each, it was amusing. Thankfully they noted it was our anniversary. Was amusing that it was spelt incorrectly with 2 letters missing.

the waiters were very nice and helpful! i was a party of four and had to leave in a hurry and the waiter nicely put our desert away in a box. the food was 9/10. highlights for me was the scallop shu mai, prawn cheung fun and chilli and garlic prawns. i also ordered the lemonberry martini and rose 75.. 7/10 my only issue is it didn’t seem strong enough. would definitely recommend to a friend for a nice night out :)

We had a lunch there on the birthday of my husband. Everything what we ate was outstanding. Although my daughter is gluten free, she also enjoyed a lot. Service was great. They made a surprise and send us their delicious cake for the birthday. Overall it's a great place. Highly recommended 👌

I'm sorry, I don't know how to taste food, but there is a very unfair situation here. I came to the restaurant with my wife, her food arrived and she finished her main meal. I haven't even had my starter yet. Please be careful and go knowing this. My wife ate these dishes and I couldn't even eat the first course. I am sad. By the way, my food arrived after 40 minutes. The Turkish manager of the restaurant was extremely moderate. He offered us champagne and dessert and apologized. He also offered dessert. I would also like to thank him 🙏

Amazing experience! The food was 10/10, especially the dim sum, as was the service, the staff were extremely attentive and kind. The Mount everest dessert and lemoney desserts were by far the best out of the ones we chose! The atmosphere was also lovely! Lychee cocktail was 💯

Amazing food and fabulous ambiance

me and my friends went to eat here yesterday and we ordered their prawn noodles within 10mins i felt sick and then in another 15mins i threw the food up. i have food poisoning and my friends have food poisoning too. when we asked for a refund we was rudely declined.
