Basta.

Disappointing Experience at Yauatcha – EXTREMELY RUDE Hostess I visited Yauatcha for the second time, this time to celebrate my best friend’s birthday. Having enjoyed the food on my previous visit, I made a reservation in advance to ensure a smooth experience. However, upon arrival, we were told our booking wasn’t in the system. The hostess at the reception was extremely rude and dismissive, immediately blaming me for the supposed mistake rather than trying to find a solution. I politely asked if anything could be done, and she said we could wait an hour at the bar, which wasn’t an issue in itself. However, her attitude, was so VERY unwelcoming that my friends felt uncomfortable and wanted to leave… Since I had previously enjoyed the food, I insisted on staying, but the atmosphere for my friend’s birthday celebration was already ruined. While waiting at the bar, I approached the hostess again to confirm if our new booking would match the brunch menu I had initially selected. She responded sarcastically, saying that brunch must be booked 24 hours in advance—despite the fact that I had indeed made a booking. Her tone was dismissive, sarcastic and instead of helping, she simply said, “It’s your choice if you want to stay—these are the conditions.” I felt like I was begging to dine there, which was both humiliating and frustrating. To make matters worse, my friend checked the restaurant’s online booking system at that very moment and found that brunch was, in fact, available to book immediately. This meant the hostess had lied to us. We called the manager, who showed no empathy, didn’t apologize, and only said they would accommodate us. Ultimately, we stayed and spent something like £300 on food and cocktails. While the food was excellent, the waitress and the cocktail bar super friendly but the experience itself was already RUINED in our arrival by a staff behaving live having a little power! The rudess and dishonest behavior are f the hostess left us with a bitter tasty and completely ruined what was meant to be a special occasion. For a restaurant of this level, I expected far better treatment. I left feeling embarrassed, and my friends were extremely disappointed. Spending this amount of money at a high-end restaurant should come with good service, not humiliation. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a special dining experience.

I came on Sunday afternoon for the Brunch menu (£45pp). The restaurant was busy so it took a while for the waitress to take our drinks order But she was very helpful explaining the menu The dim sum selection on the set menu was tasty and as I remember it from years ago. It was a huge plus to be able to reorder these as part of the set menu deal The baked items and bao buns were not for me so I can’t comment on the quality Now for the mains… the egg fried rice was very disappointing. It was just yellow coloured rice. The beef in the black beef was pretty poor quality and not what you expect for such a restaurant The shrimp and scallop curry was okay but nothing special The pancake and honey comb dessert was very dry and missable. We took one bite and left the rest. The dessert needs to be replaced with something more inviting and delicious. If all courses were exquisite this would be incredible value but as it stands it’s very average and I wouldn’t get it again

I had a reservation and when I walked into the restaurant and up to the hostess, she asked for my name and proceeded to laugh at me. I have no clue why but I was willing to brush it off until we received similar attitudes from the waiters as well. It’s a more expensive place, so you’d expect the service to reflect that. The waiters addressed us in very short sentences with a rushed tone, and weren’t willing to explain anything. It wasn’t busy as we went on a Sunday night either, so that shouldn’t have contributed to their poor and rushed attitude. The food wasn’t very good even though it was expensive (or more expensive), everything was pretty flavorless and you could probably get it for half the price any hole in the wall in London. Absolutely do not recommend. The atmosphere of the place was not welcoming at all, and the tables have these weird, short chairs that are pretty uncomfortable for just about everyone. Save your money and go somewhere else.

this was mildly underwhelming for a Yuatcha branch, we had visited during the Chinese New Year week which mightve caused some staffing issues. i ordered the aromatic duck because the pecking duck couldve only come as an entire duck or half a duck, i had no appetite for half a duck and my wife eats as much as a duck does so she's not a dependable dining partner. anyway the duck was a bit too dry, the hoisin sauce struggled to match it, the dispensation of the veggies was slightly lesser than what mightve been sumptuous. we ordered a singaporean style noodle, which was okay. we also ordered some deserts i got curious and read further, the restaurant lost its Michelin star in 2019 and i gather that the prices have reduced steeply since, being currently around 30-40% cheaper than it used to be

My Apple Watch kept showing dangerously loud noise signs. The seating is absolutely uncomfortable with no space to keep your legs. The fish tanks were very pretty, I went for the weekend brunch menu for £45pp and we were sat downstairs (no natural light) right by the bar which felt very crammed compared to the natural light seating they offer upstairs, there was next to no leg space under the tables. The service was a little intense for me, being that you could have bottomless dimsum (the same 3 things) it seemed a bit excessive to explain what they were again and again each time they were reordered. You weren't rushed out though and the truffle dumpling (one of 3 in each basket) as well as the prawns and scallops main was a stand out (very fresh). The dipping chilli oil was very good too. The only disappointing thing on the menu were the pancakes, it was small and dry, more like a dry sponge cake cut into circles than a Japanese souffle pancake, if that's what you're expecting.

The biggest disappointment was the Kwetio noodles—the portion was small, the price was steep at £22, and the taste was below average. Definitely not worth it. If you want authentic Chinese food, I’d recommend you going else where. I was so perplexed when the skin of the Har Gao broke immediately when I CAREFULLY picked it up, and that happened to every single Har Gao in the steamer. Someone on the table ordered fried noodles, it was the right colour (glossy brown) yet tasteless, did the chef forget that dark soy sauce and light soy sauce have different use?? We ordered tea for the table as one would in a Chinese restaurant, and to our surprise the tea pot didn’t have any leaves in it? Every time we wanted more tea they’d take the tea pot away and make the tea at the bar and bring back another teapot with no leaves, which would take like 10 minutes. It also took asking three times for each time we wanted a refill. I genuinely don’t understand the appeal of this restaurant. It’s overpriced, overcrowded, poor service and sub par food.

My recent visit to Yauatcha Soho was, without exaggeration, one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had. With its reputation for high-end modern Cantonese cuisine, I expected a memorable meal—but what I received was far from acceptable. Let’s start with the food. The only redeeming dishes of the entire meal were the sea bass and the dumplings, which were decent at best. Everything else was utterly disgusting—poorly executed, lacking flavor, and far below the standards you’d expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Even the desserts, which are supposedly a highlight of Yauatcha, were a complete letdown. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were pulled straight from a freezer. The service was equally atrocious. Our waiter was not only inattentive but outright rude. Despite the mandatory 13.5% service charge already added to the bill, they had the audacity to ask for an additional tip during the billing process—a completely inappropriate and uncomfortable moment. To add insult to injury, when we raised concerns about the quality of the food, the waiter chose to argue with us instead of addressing the issue professionally. And for all this mediocrity? The total bill came to £196.62. Nearly £200 for an evening that left a bad taste—literally and figuratively. Yauatcha may have a glossy reputation and a chic Soho location, but don’t be fooled. If this experience is any indication, it’s all style and no substance. Save your money and your time—there are far better options in London for less pretension and better food.

On the good side, the food is very good and so is the service. On the downside, we had lunch on a Sunday in the basement. It has loud music and is crowded. If you have been out the night before in Soho and are still coming down, this might be the place for you. The ground floor is a different stor(e)y excuse the pun. I would score the basement at 3.2* and the ground floor somewhere above 4*. A 4* average is fair for the restaurant as a whole. It is telling that they had and lost a Michelin star, the experience can differ greatly according to the table. Additionally, the basement was more “child friendly” during Sunday lunch than I would have liked and the acoustics made it worse so again, if you don’t like them, ask for a ground floor table. I would go again.

As someone who worked in the service industry, I would normally never complain about service, let alone write a review. However, this experience at Yauatcha was so exceptionally bad that I needed to say something. My friends and I came for the Lunar New Year, so we expected an exceptional experience, since we’ve heard so many good things about this place, but we were very disappointed. We ordered a selection of dim sum and a few mains to share. The dim sum was very good and came quickly. However, the mains took over 20 min to arrive, and when they did, they were ice cold. Service was horrible — we were ignored multiple times. This doesn’t even mention the fire alarm, which went off at least four times. For £200 for 3 dim sum, 4 mains, and 0 alcoholic drinks, we truly cannot justify visiting again. I didn’t take any photos because we were starved and needed to eat the cold food.

I’ve had better food in other Chinese restaurants in London’s Chinatown at a way more affordable price. This restaurant slaps on fancy ingredients on its menu and raises the price exorbitantly, but is lacking in taste and quality. The cheong fun and har gow’s skin is mushy and soggy, the siu mai was almost bland and the venison puff’s pastry was soggy and gross. The atmosphere is very strange as well, normally dim sum is served with Chinese teas, but people seem to enjoy theirs with alcohol instead. Absolute tourist trap. The food wasn’t bad, but the portion size was very small. The Service here was abysmal. We were served two bottles of water at 6£ each when we asked for tap water for the table. Food took a long time to arrive despite not being busy. The atmosphere was super weird. There were spotlights above focussed on specific positions on the table which meant only one person could read the menu. The table are very small and couldn’t hold more than three dishes. Would not visit again, nor worth a visit.

The food is delicious, only the cabbage in the set meal tastes average. It's a bit expensive, costing 80 pounds per person plus service charge. But the ingredients are really good, there are scallops in the siomai, and the pepper fish uses large pieces of sea bass from Chile. But the service did not match the level of consumption. There was only one waitress with long curly hair who was full of energy, and the other waitresses were a bit dull. There were white Asian men and women at our table, but there was a waiter who only explained the food to white men...probably not intentional, but it was very annoying.

We were not treated very well. Despite having a reservation, we were initially taken downstairs to a claustrophobic table between two families while loads of available tables were empty upstairs. Finally, we asked to go upstairs and sat at a comfy table in a brighter environment. Our waitress was very friendly and sweet and cared for us. Nice food. I particularly enjoyed Singapore noodles and dim sum. Flower tea is okay; it's very subtle. Maybe we will come back. By the way, the Michelin Star is gone, as the chef who has the star left this restaurant in 2019. So should the price be this expensive?

The second branch is much more successful in every parameter. Our waitress pretty much abandoned us in favor of a more spacious table of 8... Lobster and shrimp dim sum are really great. Fried crab is too spicy and uninteresting, covered in almonds for no purpose. It was nice to have dessert on the house because we were celebrating a birthday

A great evening thanks to Hanita our waitress We've had a friends get together celebration at Yauatcha Soho and upon arrival decided that it is best that our waitress will decide what to order. Hanita did an amazing job in selecting the food and drinks for us. She made a perfect choice of dishes from dim sums to duck to wok to noodles, combined with the place's signature cocktails. Many thanks Hanita for making our evening an unforgettable one.

The wonderful Ronell walked us through the venue and menu options, making great suggestions and making all the changes we needed to ensure all of our guests were accommodated. The service was wonderful and attentive, a glass was never empty. We enjoyed hosting our Christmas Quiz at the venue and had nothing but great feedback from all that attended. Thank you for looking after us, and we look forward to dining with you again.

Under Hakkasan umbrealla but *FAR from* Hakkasan. DOOR MAN - abrupt. WELCOMING STAFF: warm, friendly, engaged, but also busy doubling up as closet runners to hang your jackets. AMBIANCE/AESTHETICS: people were VERY very casual. I was furious, mY partner & I dressed up to celebrate her birthday - upon arrival I realised we could’ve just arrived in jogging set and trainers. Maybe the staff recognised the “disappointment” on our faces when they saw us panning the room, but we were ushered quickly to the “bar” which was length of about a Volvo estate and about as wide… (it was narrow and crammed). From there we were taken to our table - downstairs, and placed right beneath the stairs in view of back and forth traffic - suffice to say we asked to move. The staff were accommodating and moved us as requested. Downstairs is slightly nicer than upstairs, but as they say first impressions count, and ours were very low by the time we were seated. I was fuming. FOOD: Good, tasty, priced reasonably for what you get, (it’s soho after all). WAITERS: Unkept, nor refined. No different to going to Nando’s. They were rushed, no elegance or flair to their table/customer experience etiquette. ETIQUETTE: Throughout the evening we encountered about 3 different waiters and they all had a knack of leaning very intrusively into our table when serving, it wasn’t pleasant, one even reached over my partner’s head to place her food. ALCOHOL: We didn’t drink any alcohol on this occasion, but I did order 2 mocktails BUT whatever we were given was flavoured water with ice. Charged at £10ea. I was vex for sure. SUMMARY: Cramped, far cry from Hakkasan/fine dining experience for a date night, more like “I’m out in soho with friends , where can I get good food from and chill “. POINTLESS DRESSING UP: You’ll have wasted your time. Lower your expectations. And given that there are not many #yauatchaSoho pics on IG - take heed! “BIRTHDAY” ACKNOWLEDGMENT: A miringue biscuit with a candle. lol. My parter didn’t even want to take a picture ON HER BIRTHDAY NIGHT! Spend: £200-£250

Mr. Patel’s extensive knowledge of the menu elevated our culinary adventure as our adventurous Daughter-in-Law introduced us to exceptional new dishes, perfectly paired with her choice of wine. Been to Yauatcha several times before and food still very good on most recent visit. However service, although efficient, was soulless and the focus seemed to be on getting food out as fast as possible so as to turn table around as fast as possible. I'm not stumping up £100 a head (one cocktail and 250ml lower price wine) for that. And the nerve to leave prompt for tip on the machine after adding 13.5%. I will leave Yauatcha to the tourists.

Chairs are too low, if you are below 5’3 then I guess it will be comfortable. The chairs are too small as well making it difficult to sit. Place is so loud and overstimulating the tables are next to each other. The portions are so small, only one spring roll and one bun in the spirit menu, portions are a joke for a normal person. Beef was cold and poorly seasoned, fish tasted artificial, best dish would be the plain rice. Long time waiting, only to receive mid quality food, a 5/10 at best and only tastes good because from waiting so long that the food becomes edible. I would never go back to this place ever again. Blacklock is only five minutes away, so is Koya and Taro…
