Yatzen in Chelmsford

We have purchased Chinese food from this restaurant many times & always found it to be very good & very reasonably priced. It is all freshly prepared to your requirements & delivered within the hour. The only thing I have found is that they take a very long time to answer the phone ! !

I am a pensioner and ordered from these con men, lost my money, which I cant afford to do. No food and no refund, conning cowboys. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Strayed from our two regular Chinese takeaways as Yatzen was the only open. A very unusual mix of good and bad to report on Yatzen, firstly the flavours were outstanding. But a few things let them down. The satay chicken was so delicious but the chicken itself tasted re cooked to me. It may have been the crispiness meant for the dish and i am not use to it, but there was no mistaking the ribs. A full portion of gristle. Such a shame because again the flavour was outstanding. To be fair to Yatzen were quick to try and remedy this. I complained and they were very quick to send another portion. Unfortunately they sent me another portion of gristle with 2 small ribs on top, nowhere near acceptable.To sum up Yatzen - chef can clearly cook, flavours amazing, but they are happy to give you a substandard product. I didnt like the noodles as much as my usual takeaways but that is personal choice. On the night i said i would never eat at Yatzen again but most of the flavours were so good i will give them another chance, but only one.

Awful! Used to use Yatzen quite regularly a few years ago , now I remember why I stopped! Ribs were all fat and gristle, no bone and an inch long. Chicken was tough and chewy, not good Yatzen, won’t use again !!

For a good few years Yatzen has always been our go to Chinese in Woodham. The previous deliveries over the last 2 months have been a shambles with delivery incorrect and 2 hours late so they can fit delivery in with someone in the same road that ordered an hour after us. Tonight the calamari starter looked like dried up inedible onion rings, and the sweet and sour balls were soggy and quite frankly disgusting. Unfortunately now there have been too many issues on our delivery and quality of food so will not be ordering again.

We had Chinese food from this restaurant recently & found it to be very good & tasty, they have a very comprehensive menu to suit all tastes & their freshly prepared food is very reasonably priced.

Avoid. There are no words for how awful the food I just had delivered was which was also half hour late. King prawn balls like I'd never seen, squashed, overcooked and full of grease. King prawn satay runny greasy satay sauce. What a waste of money. Mostly straight in the bin.

Love Yatzen. This is our local Chinese restaurant which we visit regularly and order our takeaways from. The Sunday buffet is particularly good value at £16 a head, fantastic selection on the menu and lovely friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area

Perfect for lunch.. food lovely. Staff helpful and patient. Often quiet on a Sunday. Maybe due to the 2pm close, shame it’s not later, honestly perfect otherwise.

Visited with the family on a Friday night, testament to the quality of the restaurant, every table taken and the 2 delivery staff didn’t stop the whole night. As always amazing food cooked beautifully. The staff are always friendly and helpful, I’ve been here many times and cannot fault the food or service definitely the best Chinese restaurant in my opinion in South Woodham-Ferrers and Chelmsford area.Highly recommend a visit

We always order our chinese takeaway from Yatzen, we have never been let down by them, friendly staff, hot tasty food, collection or delivery, they are always cheerful, I’m not one for writing reviews but Saturday 16 th March at 5.30 food arrived early, driver was lovely, and food was delicious, credit where credit is due. Can only praise everything about the evening, and after the new year rang in all the staff joined in for a song and dance. One of the best NYE’s we’ve had . Absolutely dreadful! Booking showed a 30-45min wait times for delivery but after an hour I called the restaurant to say my food was ready but they were waiting on a driver who would be 10mins. I expressed concern that my food would be cold (as with 10mins drive it would be over 20mins between serving and arrival) and told that it wouldn’t be! I then politely requested a discount as it would be more than twice the estimated time and the call taker went to ask the boss who I could hear in the background being extremely rude about my concerns and refusal to acknowledge I was due any sort of recompense for my inconvenience. I attempted to explain to the call handler that just eat showed an estimated time prior to booking that wasn’t fulfilled and he steadfastly refused to accept the error was a matter to be rectified now or in the future. On arrival, food was tepid, dry, chewy and flavourless. One to avoid!

Yatzen has always been our favourite Chinese in the chelmsford area. We haven't visited the restaurant for a while due to various reasons but still have been getting our takeaways from them, always on time and great food. We returned last Sunday with six other members of the family for their Sunday buffet deal and had a excellent time. As always food was amazing, great taste and piping hot. The service was excellent very attentive and polite, we sat down at 5:30 and didn't leave until 9:30 we was having such a good time. I cannot fault yatzen and will always return there for our Chinese

Ordered for delivery - food turned up but the rice was missing - called the restaurant where the guy said “ what do you want me to do about it? Just deal with it” - terrible service! Some rice turned up 20 mins later wasn’t even the rice I ordered!!! By that time the food was cold! Not even an apology or refund

This was a pleasant reasonable priced venue for family birthday's, a large round table that seated 11 comfortable made for a socialable evening, so we had visited it regularly. The last couple of occassions havent been so great, little advice was given when ordering which can be sometimes difficlut with large numbers and we found we had over ordered. As seems to be the case in most restaurants the pushing of the drinks became a bit over bearing at times. We are giving this place a rest for awhile and see if things change in the future.

Usually get free delivery by phoning up but made the mistake of doing online via Just Eat and had to pay £3.00 plus 50p service charge?

For many years, we've only used Yatzen in SWF. Mainly for the excellent food, both take out & the restaurant's friendly staff & ambience.

Excellent Chinese, beautiful decor and great tasting food , highly recommended the Sunday buffet (all food cooked to order ) also the takeaway is always great non-greasy and full of flavour.

Spent our last 3 New Year's Eve at Yatzen and again a lovely evening. The food is so good here, we visit regular and have never had a bad meal. The service is excellent, there is only 4/5 staff but they work so hard to keep everyone happy and this year the restaurant was packed every table taken. They are also the loveliest people, I cannot praise them enough.

Celebrating my Birthday, my Wife & Daughter booked the Yatzen Chinese, the food, Service and the Birthday Cake was great. A lovely place to eat.

Took the whole family to Yatzen to celebrate grandads birthday, 4 generations of family, total of 24. Had the Sunday buffet deal at £15.95 a head, unbelievable value as always. If we wanted more we just asked and the staff brought it up. The staff are so nice and helpful in there and the food is amazing, best Chinese in the area. Love this place, would go there every week

We walked around the town centre and eventually chose here for a meal in the evening. The Greene King pub told us they shut the restaurant at 8pm and as we didn't want to be rushed, found the Yatzen and I'm really glad we did!...

Personal amable aunque el servicio un poco lento, tuvimos que esperar un rato para la factura. La comida excelente como siempre, nunca falla. Ambiente podría mejorarse con más iluminación íntima y música siento un poco expuesto a otros comensales. Por lo tanto mejor para grupos grandes.

Este es un fantástico restaurante para un almuerzo rápido y a un precio razonable. Ir por el menú fijo razonable y no puedes equivocarte!

Visitamos los domingos por la noche por el menú buffet y como siempre excelente comida, servicio y precio. El personal siempre fue muy amable, servicial y profesional. Las opciones en el buffet es genial todos tuvimos cuatro campos incluyen pato por 17 libras por cabeza, no podía comer una sola cosa más, a un precio increíble. No puedo quejarme de este restaurante de honestidad y seguiremos volviendo 2 - 3 veces al mes.

Comida excelente, no como algunos greecy China, no me puedo quejar del servicio de los camareros y camareras eran preciosas, cuando mi hijo ha derramado su copa y luego se molestó no podría haber sido mejor really buena relación calidad-precio! Went to Yatzen for our 3rd New Year's Eve in succession perfect evening. Amazing Chinese food, service exceptional and amazing value for money. Everyone in the restaurant was enjoying the evening, complimentary champagne at midnight, not prosecco. Can't fault this restaurant, in my opinion the best in Essex

Me and my other half went to Yatzen for dinner and loved it. We had ordered takeaway from them before the visit and since then and were never disappointed. The only negative side was not the restaurant's fault - there was a large group who were celebrating something and perhaps had had a few too many next to us. They kept being very loud.Another fault, which took off that 5th star is the fact that like many other Chinese places, they only give you the 6 pancakes to go with a 1/4 duck, which is nowhere near enough. They did give us more once asked though. Lovely Chinese restaurant, will definitely eat there again.Do try the king prawns and cashew nuts in hoisin sauce - they're to die for!

This is a gem that needs no gimmicks! It's totally unassuming and hidden against the building of The Oakland Hotel; if you wasn't looking, you wouldn't really notice it. Well walk by with your eyes wide open and step in for a great experience. We caught the poor staff finishing their food - without any 'attitude', the promptly came to the door and greeted us and then seated us. Once we were settled, they cleared their food off of the table and were very attentive to us. The two ladies were very polite, informative and quick to settle us down. The food was fresh, well prepared and HOT (as it should be!!)...... The wait for the food was sensible and dishes were served at a unhurried pace. They've convinced me to come back for their buffet on a Sunday. I went with some people that said that this restaurant was better than one of the main, more well known Chinese restaurants. We chose a set menu deal, you won't be disappointed.

Returned to Yatzen on Sunday for their buffet, this is amazing value, choose whatever you like and as much as you can eat. Usually can't get past the starters the food is so plentiful. The service is excellent, very professional and friendly, def the best Chinese in the area for both sit in and takeaways.Love this place

We use Yatzen at least once a month they normally remember our name which is nice - it's defiantly the best Chinese in the area and their satay sauce is perfect!

We have eaten at Yatzan but we quite often just have takeaways. Food is always delivered promptly and very hot.

The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was fabulous, right from the prawn crackers (best I've ever had). I drank bitter lemon and got a glass full instead of the tiny one you often get. I've eaten lots of chinese food in Soho and have never had better! Cleared the plates even though we were full. Hardly ever done that.

Typical Oriental restaurant with a modern interior. Had an excellent Hot & Sour soup but the main course was something of a disappointment, not quite a Kung Poh Chicken.....

Very tasty dishes and good sized portions. Friendly waiters very eager to help and serve. Prices average. Would certainly eat again here if in the area.

This place is charming. I do not go often but I always get a personal welcome from Lyn, Jesse and Joe.This is the best chinese restaurant in the area with the food well presented at the table. Nothing is too much trouble for them.A lunchtime business menu also exists for around £6. Check opening days / times.Try it and you will keep going back. I do!

Went to Yatzen for their Sunday buffet and as always superb food and service. It was a last minute decision to go out to eat and their managed to seat 6 of us at late notice. The owners always go the extra mile for their customers and the food is plentiful. If your looking for a Sunday buffet that you'll never eat all the food this is the place

We visited Yatzen in March for my sons 11th birthday and again tonight for my birthday with family. Both visits have been outstanding. On both occasions the staff were so friendly and welcoming and absolutely fantastic with my 5 year old twins, bringing them out ketchup & mayonnaise for their chicken balls and chips lol. They go out of their way to make it an enjoyable experience, brought out birthday cakes on both visits (at no extra cost I might add). The food was delicious and the staff kept the twins occupied when they were tired so we could make our night last longer, wouldn't go anywhere else. Thanks for making our birthdays even more special xx

this is the best Chinese in South Woodham Ferrers. We have eaten in the other offers in town and this one wins hands down. The fillet beef in black bean sauce is amazing.

Have ordered takeaway from here twice now and will certainly order again. Good value food, nothing to complain about l.

6 of us had dinner and were greeted pleasantly by very friendly staff. we were happy to have prawn crackers until we were ready to order ourselves, did not feel rushed or pressured to order and were given our "off the menu" special requirements with no fuss. I am not a chinese food person but I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and will return.

We spent NYE's in Yatzen with the in-laws and friends, what a great night. We had nothing planned and called Yatzens last minute to see if they had space. Though fully booked then set up a table for the 7 of us. As usual the food was excellent and service brilliant. They set up a karaoke for the customer which went down well. Just before midnight they tuned into the BBC on there large TV and everyone watched the fireworks from London. Complementary glass of champagne were handed out by the staff. We left around 01:00 feeling very well fed, looked after and had a great night. I love this place and look forward to going back again soon

There are many Chinese restaurants in South Woodham but this is the best by far. Service is fantastic and the food is delicious, as a vegetarian I rarely have so much choice on the menu but here it takes me forever to decide what to eat

went in at lunch time food not very good also staff not very helpful would not go back for lunch but was told evening was much better i may give them a second chance

Went to the Yatzen with family for a birthday meal - opted for Sunday Buffet lunch. A good varied menu and well prepared and cooked food.Would go more often if we lived in South Woodham.

This is where I came for my birthday and me, my family and my friends loved it here, my friend also decided to her birthday here because she loved it so much. It is a lovely little Chinese restaurant and I would love to come here again sometime ❤️

A first time visit to this restaurant and will be returning. Very friendly staff, warm and welcoming. Good selection of food, our dishes were well cooked and well presented. This meal was a catch up with a friend so we had lots to talk about! We weren't rushed and the staff were very chatty and approachable. Pleasant surroundings and not too many tables which made this overall dining experience was very good indeed. Highly recommended!

I was so pleased to don this restaurant in town, the decor resemble a night club but it is clean and the service is impeccable. We had several dishes and they were all of very good quality I had mix veg noddles lemon chicken and dumplings and was very satisfied I even had enough left over to take home. I would recommend this restaurant. Ps they also have a buffet day.

The Yatzen is attached to The Oakland Hotel and you get a 10% discount if a resident there. The restaurant has very pleasant decor , the food was delicious and the staff very friendly.

Local restaurant in South Woodham Ferrers been a few times now and just had to write and let people know you must try this place if like Chinese this is good quality I have been to the some of the best Mayfair Chinatown the famous good friends and I assure you this is just as nice. Service with a smile always attentive and nothing too much trouble just a great place

Really great chinese food and I'm pretty fussy! Lovely friendly staff too. My only small gripe is that the prawn crackers always taste stale, which is a shame as that's what you eat first!

Felt I had to mention Yatzen again. We are so pleased with the food and service there that we now go at least 2-3 times a month. The Sunday buffet for £15 a head is particular good value. The staff are so friendly and helpful they really make you feel at home. We've now had several meals there and cannot find a single fault with the place.

Great little restaurant, intimate and cosy. The round table is great for a large group, especially with the feature of the revolving table top, ideal for sharing dishes between friends.The service is fast and the staff are very welcoming and attentive. Food is delicious, wine is good....what more could you need.

I took my daughter here last Thursday and wished I hadn't! We ordered a set meal, which came up on a small round plate a selection of four diff starters, 1 pancake roll chopped in half to look bigger, a few nugget size ribs, we changed the prawn toast to smoked chicken, which weren't too bad and a spoonful of seaweed! Not what we were used to from the other Chinese in swf! Duck was next, more like the size of a sparrow, I only had enough to fill 2 pancakes! Well at least we never had the problem of running out of pancakes, with not enough duck to fill them! Next course was another disappointment. Ok if you liked onions, because in every dish that was in abundance, hardly any meat! We left one dish completely in disgust, even though we were still hungry. I complained and showed them my issue and was offered another dish, but as we had finished couldn't see the point, instead we opted for I've cream on the house, which was definitely the best course. When ever we have dined in other Chinese restaurants food on the set meal is so plentiful we even have to take some home in doggy bags? But not this time, we both left still hungry! NOT IMPRESSED

Visited Yatzen for my father in laws surprise 75th birthday, fantastic time. I booked for 27 people including 2 children and 1 baby. We ordered off the buffet menu and the food was amazing, more then enough for everyone and they even did chicken nugget and chips for the kids. They organised the seating perfectly for the numbers and the service was excellent. Everyone on the party praised the food and service, some of the family couldn't believe how good it was for the cost. The staff there are really friendly and so helpful. Will definatly be returning again and again.

This is a lovely restaurant. Friendly, considerate service. Excellent King Prawn Chow Mein, Egg Fried Rice and Sweet & Sour Chicken. Preceded by Chicken & Sweetcorn Soup and Vegetarian Spring Roll. Finished with excellent coffee.Some Oriental background music rather the more common English contemporary kind would have enhanced the experience even more but I wouldn't mark the Yatzen down for just that. Maybe something to think about though?With a 10% discount for staying at the adjoining Oakland Hotel this was a great deal. We would certainly come again.

Have been having take aways from Yatzen for around a year but never went in for a sit down meal until about two months ago, have been in there four times since and going again this weekend. The decor is lovely, best kept restaurant in SWF. Food is excellent, very tasty and served lovely. I've taken three different couples to there and they are all returning as they enjoyed it so much. The staff are amazing, brilliant service and they know what myself and my wife have to drink already. Prices very reasonable, in fact on the cheaper side of average. Love this place, cant praise it enough

Have been to Yatzen about 3 times and have been satisfied on each occasion. Food, service and surroundings good at a reasonable price. Haven't tried the takeaway so cannot comment.

I'm just writing to say what a lovely restaurant this is. We celebrated my son's birthday here last month and it was the perfect evening! They are very accommodating, they let us bring our own birthday cake for him, and the food really was delicious. Highly recommended!!!

Not the cheapest Chinese in the area but by some way the best, service and food is excellent. If anything sometimes the service is a little over attentive.

We loved this take away when it first opened. But lately the food has been very disappointing and we have ended up throwing a lot of it away. Unfortunately we will now be looking for a new Chinese takeaway

Another good meal, good service good food and good value. This is the best Chinese we have found in the area and we will continue to visit. They also do a takeaway service which we use.

This restaurant is fairly new, and has now found its feet. Food quality is superb. We have eaten here a quite a few times over the past few weeks. Food is gorgeous. Our favourites so far has been, Garlic smoked chicken, Spare ribs Peking style, Malaysian lamb curry, beef with black bean sause and chilli. We still have lots to try. Service was excellent, and they serve nice beer on tap. Decor is also very modern and clean. This is our new local :)

This is the fourth time I have been to this restaurant and have taken different friends along to try it out. This restaurant is lovely, such a warm welcome from their staff and the ambience and cleanliness of this restaurant takes a lot of beating. The food is delicious and such a variety with both chinese and Thai dishes. Keep doing what you are doing Yatzen because you are doing it right. Our friends all agree too.

I have been twice, and both times been very pleased with the food, service and quality of the surroundings. They serve Thai, Chinese and some Japanese food all excellent.
