This so called International Airport leaves a lot to be desired!!! On the Cheltenham Races weekend management put on skeleton staff in security which meant an hour queueing to get through this section. The staff themselves did themselves no favours as they were too busy chatting to move long a try which jammed adding another 15 min delay despite being told. Passengers v stressed and angry, some missed flights too. Never again using this pathetic airport....its a missyourflightport!!

Excellent arrivals and departure waiting areas. There are shops to buy certain goodies, Costa café is the best. Everyone who arrives and gets out is able to get a bite and a drink and people waiting for their loved ones are able to relax and wait. Had a hot choclate and a crisps for around £5.70, 2 500mls of still water for £4.60 Neat toilets and warm enough to sit and wait. Clean too. Outside there is access to car park and buses. Very well organised airport.

Used to be a good airport 20 years ago, but now it looks really down on its luck. Amazingly someone thought it was a good idea that everyone, suitcases, trolleys and all can only navigate to departures by lift, and even more amazingly the board of Birmingham Airport agreed. This means that even in mid-November at 5:30 am it’s chaotic - I hate to think what navigating the airport must be like in the summer.

Nothing wrong with the actual airport, however the premium set down car park is a real shit show. As a taxi driver that is dropping off and picking up regularly, it is extremely frustrating that the parking machines are not all always working, which means long queues at the functioning ones, and consequently a higher parking charge due to the extra time taken. But also they seldom issue receipts, which is essential for accounts purposes. And just to add insult to injury, the parking fee has gone up too. PATHETIC.

Birmingham Airport is fantastic. Everything is well organised, and staff are professional but also friendly and very helpful. There are loads of places to eat and drink and some great shops to get that last minute purchase (I forgot Sunglasses, so Boots to the rescue!). And it's not huge, which means you're not dragging a heavy suitcase for miles and miles. Five stars from me, it's BHX all the way! Edit: it's November 2024 and I'm sitting in a plane on a runway after turning back halfway through the flight. Now waiting for a bus to take us to a new plane even though it's on the left and no more than 30 paces away. This is a joke. I am grateful to the pilot and crew for keeping us safe but the organisation since we returned is non-existent. Why can't we just walk to that plane? It's 30 paces. I'll be looking at another airport in the future. And a morning flight.

I travelled from Birmingham Airport to Edinburgh. I got dropped off near car park 5 where there is a 10 minute free drop off. It was a short 5 minute walk to the terminal. I'd already checked in on the app and got my boarding card. Because I had no large bags to check in, I headed straight for security. It took about 15 minutes from start to finish to get through. Apart from removing my belt and suit jacket, my laptop and other electronic devices could stay in the bag. Once I entered the departure lounge, I headed to one of the many stores that sell a meal deal. I grabbed one off those, ate it and headed to the gate. I waited around 40 minutes before we boarded the Easy Jet flight. It was pretty seamless from arrival at the airport to departure.

Make sure you allow a couple of hours for security... I was there a couple months back and they were building a new system ( although no workman could be seen). Flew from there last week and still no workman on site and they seem quite happy to have a totally inept system - multiple long queues to get in a lift then to another queue. Speedy boarding people get a whole lift to themselves, even if there's one person. Head of security needs sacking - awful start to the holiday with people in the queue actually missing flights. Added star for the water fountain - it was a nice touch. However, not enough to want to fly through this airport again.

The only thing you should keep in mind is that if, like us, you don't sleep in the airport hotels but in the nearby Hilton Metropole and have a very early flight, you have a problem, because the only signposted access (also according to Google) to the airport is through the NEC Center But it doesn't open until 6 a.m., so too close for those who fly at 7 a.m....

2 star for short security queue. Otherwise, it should be one. 1. There is no info about the flight delays. Just please stand by the gate for 2 hours. It was even marked as 'open on time' even though the plane wasn't there and arrived 90 minutes late. 2. You must pay for a trolley to pick your luggage up. On top of around £1000 you've already paid for flights and airport fees. 3. Forcing passengers to walk in the rain from the plane underneath the gate sleeve/arm.

Currently under construction! Although the up to date body scanners are now in place. The security queues are awful, so slow people are late getting to flights, it is worth paying £6 on the airport website to go in the Express queue (sailed through). Good walk to the Jet2 gates waiting area though, allow yourself a good 5 minutes if you aren't a speedy walker. Duty Free isn't that cheap...I've seen cheaper Googling a good price. The parking is so expensive you might as well get a taxi if you're a family or group who can split the cost and live fairly nearby. Staff are all lovely though.

Major international airport, has quick and easy access for all travellers, we arrived outside and within 20 minutes we had passed through security into the departure area, which has a range of shops and bars including a wetherspoons, just don't expect to pay high street prices, they are open 24 / 7 and need to cover their costs. My second visit was very different. Arrived 3 hours before my flight and it was just as well. Took 20 minutes just to get past boarding pass check, then another 45 minutes to get to security, only 5 minutes to get through, no alarms this time. It was a Monday it was prime time 0800 but why should it take an hour to pass a couple of quick checks. You could tell it was only down to man power, because once through to departure area it was quiet, even the bars were quiet. On days like this fast track would be the best option, but they were pulling people out of the line so they could make their flights, which slowed the rest down so why pay when they give you a free pass anyway, big risk though. New visit Oct 24, and for some reason beyond understanding, as part of major refit, escalators have been removed and replaced by lifts, which really slow down access to security.

Birmingham Airport reflects the city. Dreary, uninspired, unorganized and dirty. For this to be England's second largest city it's quite embarrassing that this is the first thing you unfortunately get to see upon arrival. Luckily I was leaving, so I didn't mind saying goodbye to such a grim city/country. Check-in wasn't exactly a headache but felt very claustrophobic, squeezed in like cattle in a queue like not built for more than 100 people. People spilling out, winding around the whole check-in terminal. The lack of signage adds to the chaos. You just have to hope you're going in the right direction. The lighting is depressing, the walls are dirty there is a lot of construction going on but I would think it's like rolling **** in glitter. Security... Eh. I can definitely see what they are trying to attempt. It should work in theory, but once again the airport just cannot accommodate such large amounts of people. Departure lounge and duty free is quite sad really. Small space, but considering this is the UK and they really do have such a problem with alcohol the weatherspoons and pubs are always busy (of course). Glad to never have to come back here.

Allowing for work taking place, it was OK but signs could be better. Joined a massively long queue for the Tui desks, it was under the signs for Tui and when we finally got to the end of it it said "enjoy your Tui flight". However it was nothing to do with Tui and we could have gone straight to the Tui desks without queueing at all. The rep said he agreed with us that the signs were for Tui and another said "yes, they've borrowed our signs".....I didn't bother trying to understand the logic! Also, the monorail to the train station shuts down at certain times and we had to lug our cases on foot, but there are no directions to cater for this! Surely the monorail could close one side at a time for cleaning / maintenance and operate on demand during quiet periods - not that there was a train or bus running anyway - isn't this country hopeless? I really hope that the airport is better after the highly disruptive work that is taking place, at the moment things aren't well signposted and passengers are herded more like sheep than ever before. Airports exist because of us, the passengers and they should treat us more like customers and less like an annoyance to be exploited.

For Muslims who need to pray, the airport has a multi faith prayer room which has access to prayer mats and books. There is currently no fully halal restaurant but I did notice there is a Chaiwala opening soon which will cater for the halal market.

Came to the bonfire night event and myself and my husband had a lovely time. The whole evening was great and I would recommend it to friends to go to.

They only allow people in if they have British ID. I (21 year old guy) got thrown out because they didn't accept my driver's license. They only accept UK driver's licenses or passports. Have never had this problem anywhere else. Would not recommend if you are not British.
