One of the worst airports based on my experience - was asked to take off my shoes every time, even in the cold winter; needed to find a separate tray for my boarding pass, as it was not allowed to be placed in my pockey; not friendly security persons...everything was in a mess, except that a shortet time to pass through the border.

The airport has been renovated in areas recently, and the few new areas we got to see and use via security were really good. Its the quickest we have been through security in years so great improvement. Also the short stay drop off car park has had the barriers removed now and using number plate recognition which again moves traffic through faster. There are still some areas recieving more work currently, however if they are as good as what we have seen today I'm sure all will appreciate the improvements made. Its getting better & better. A better airport to use now.

Really bad experience, this is the worst airport we have used in the last 10 years. It took 2 hours to get through security, we queued all around the airport to find only one x-ray/scanner working. Then only a few members of staff were struggling to keep up. In all that time there were no toilets or seating available either. We had no time for drinks or toilet before our flight as it was boarding by the time we got through. We then had to wait due to other travellers still stuck in security queues. On the return we queued through disused buildings all the way to passport control. After that we followed the signs to collect our baggage which never came only to be told they changed after people had arrived. The whole site is a run down mess and we should be appalled that this is one of the first things visitors to the country will see. Will not be using this airport again.

I managed to be helped by air hostess’ who were amazing and I finally gotten bag back in minutes. What a waste of about 50 minutes in distress with no help from anyone. Just wanted to share a really upsetting experience I had at Birmingham Airport recently while flying with Ryanair. I was traveling on a priority ticket and everything should’ve been smooth, but instead I ended up feeling completely humiliated — all thanks to one staff member at the gate, whose name I will not mention here. As I was boarding, I showed my boarding pass and passport like usual. She took one look, frowned at me (literally), and told me to put my bag in the size checker. Fine, I did that — even though my bag was clearly smaller than others walking through before me with no issues. I just cant help but feel like she purposely singled me out, even though I smiled at her whilst giving her my passport. Still, she refused to let it through, even though it clearly fit. No explanation, just straight-up hostility. Things escalated fast — she made me open my bag and wanted me to take things out right there in front of everyone. I was pregnant, stressed, and felt totally exposed. I had personal maternity stuff in there (like sanitary pads), and having to show that in public was just awful. No empathy at all. I’d specifically chosen that suitcase because it fits Ryanair’s rules and I’ve used it before many times without a problem. What made it worse? She literally had me kneeling on the airport floor to open it. I'm pregnant, and being in that position caused back pain for the rest of the flight. And guess what? After all that, she ended up letting the suitcase through without me even changing anything inside. I had no where to put my items, so I literally just opened my suitcase for her to watch me struggle doing that and then zip it back up again. She just made me turn the suitcase wheels inward and that was it. I honestly don’t know what point she was trying to prove. Meanwhile, other passengers with bigger bags just strolled right through. Unfortunately, my husband was in the non priority queue and had no idea what was going on. I left that encounter in tears. I’ve never been treated like that while flying — especially not when I was expecting at least a basic level of respect. It totally ruined the start of my trip and made me anxious about flying again anytime soon. Ryanair, you really need to do better — especially for pregnant women and other vulnerable passengers. This should never have happened.

Really horrible older lady with short grey hair who seemed intent on humiliating the elderly couple in front of us and then myself due to lack of communication. I returned from Portugal with the non-EU passport, and joined a large queue waiting to go through. 1-2 officers checking British and EU citizens, and only 2(!) for the entire non-EU crowd. Imagine it takes 3-5 minutes to check a non-EU person, the queue wasnt moving fast at all. Only after UK + EU were let through, and the area became noticeably quieter with the exception of our queue going nowhere - only then the other officers started helping. Some of the other ones were just hanging around, not doing anything for quite some time. That's the attitude we get after paying £10000 to live and work in this country! The flight landed at 13:00 and by the time git the luggage and came out it 15:10. Why are the airport staff paid when they are not doing their job properly. Shame on you the Conservatives. In common with other airports, Birmingham Airport is charging monstrously inflated prices on the car park, beyond what is reasonable, so that they can shovel money at the shareholders. £5 for 15 min? We were actually on there for less than 5 min........ When its busy , they can't cope with demand, meaning when you eventually get to the exit gate, you're charged AGAIN for overstaying what you paid for. They'll tell you it's all about security, and the aftermath of COVID, or 'an enhanced customer experience'. I say they are making money off vulnerable people who can't manage the long walks from the other (cheaper) car parks. Awful Experience. Next visit sept. '24. Still too busy to cope with the traffic coming in. Still Awful. Still wish I didn't have to come here. 🤢🤮 Next visit. Apr. 25. Well, they've removed the car park barriers and just scan your number plate. If you don't pay within 24 hours, you get a PCN. And, of course, the prices have gone up. Too bad if you're not good with technology. 🤬 It gets worse when you go inside. You have to go upstairs and downstairs to get to where you have to be, and be prepared to be herded like sheep. Euthanasia would be preferable. Signs woefully inadequate. They've been trying to 'improve' the airport since well before my last incarceration here. STILL AN UTTER DISGRACE! Yes, I still hate coming here. 😱👿☠️

I had a terrible experience at Birmingham Airport — by far the worst airport I've ever encountered. During the security check, I was forced to take off my Vans and stand barefoot on the freezing floor, while many others wearing boots were allowed to pass without removing them. Despite waiting nearly 30 minutes with bare feet, I tried to remain understanding, assuming it might be a random check. However, what followed was unacceptable. I was denied boarding because the staff refused to recognise my eVisa. My passport was being held by the Irish Embassy, and I have successfully used my eVisa at Belfast Airport to prove my immigration status. Yet, the staff at Birmingham insisted that the eVisa was not valid proof of my legal residence in the UK and my identify — even though it is issued by the UK government. As I’m currently working but my work pass only shows my name and photo; and like everyone else under the new system, my BRP expired in December 2024; I don’t drive, so I don’t have a driver’s licence either. Thankfully, I had my yLink card (a railway discount card in Northern Ireland), which helped in the end. This experience left me deeply frustrated. If the UK government has invested so much time and money into implementing the eVisa system, why is it not recognised consistently at its own borders? The staff’s refusal to acknowledge it makes the government’s efforts seem like a waste of taxpayer money. If an official digital visa can't function in a situation like mine, then there’s clearly a long way to go — and an even higher cost to bear.

I didn’t go to the airport, I passed through as I was on coach bus. It’s quite big and beautiful

Love their vegan products. The people here were kind, friendly and in a really good mood.

Nice big spoons. There is an outside area which seems to be exclusively for people who smoke. There should be a smoking area. We had to go inside on a hot day to have our reasonably priced beer as the smoke was to overwhelming. Sort it out spoons.

Had to escape the rain on a busy school run and the lovely Becky invited myself and my mother inside, only had two bottles of coke and felt welcome Staff are absolutely lovely and very cosy inside. Big thumbs up 👍
