Yangs in Wakefield

I ordered chicken balls and salt and pepper chicken and both were really dry and over cooked. The chicken balls especially were awful it was like they had been cooked then cooked again to warm them up. When I bit into them the batter was like biting into a brick and the chicken just came apart because it was so over cooked. Such a shame because this place used to be so nice.

Yangs is very variable. It changes hands between a network of Chinese families, some coming back after a year or two every five or six years. This is one of the reasons why the food and the hygiene are so variable. And sometimes it's because the good chef has taken a night off and they've got someone in who can't cook and doesn't taste their food. They have been very fair with me, as a regular customer over the years, allowing me off a twenty pence or so when I'm short, although i always make sure to pay them the next time i go in. I find them generally very friendly and approachable. At the moment they're closing earlier than the advertised 10pm when business is slow, which has caught me out a few times and I've ended up having cornflakes for tea. At their best, the food is fresh, delicious, full of flavour and very well cooked. At their worst the food is tasteless, possibly off and neon coloured. You rarely get a lot of meat, but sometimes you get virtually none. Sometimes you can predict what the meals will be like depending on the family currently running the restaurant. Sometimes the curry is mild to medium and sometimes it's fiery hot and full of salt. Different families obviously prefer different suppliers or different wholesale products. So if you're a long time customer you might find that Family A is great with curry, whereas Family B is great with chicken with ginger and pineapple. Family C might make the chips fresh, Family D might refry them four times over three days. And then there's the wild card, when the good chef is off and a member of the family with no skills whatsoever fills in. Saying all of that, I've tried dozens of takeaways around the area and they're worse, sometimes much worse. I've tried much better, but those takeaways tend to go bankrupt. I think it's a case of quality and price and expertise giving way to financial necessity. If you go on a bad night or just happen to order the meal the night's chef is rubbish at, you'll be disappointed. If you go on a good night and choose the right meal, you'll be very satisfied.

Another takeaway that is cash only, I was told a price on the phone of £25 which was pricey anyway compared to others in the area, so I withdrew the exact amount and upon arrival was told I had heard wrong and infact wanted 40pence extra. As I only had my card on me and no card payments available then there was not much I could do. Customer service was quite shocking in my opinion embarrassing customers infront of others by repeating the price, all over 40 pence. I won’t be returning

There are many Chinese takeaways in the part of Wakefield but only one Yangs. Yes it's a little more expensive that others , yes it's not open every night BUT it's the best chinese food outside Shanghai..

First time trying this place and it’ll be the last food was poor and awful. Ok sauce was brown very strange and the chicken curry bright red also strange and thick no taste to it at all

Haven't ordered from here before had chicken foo young with chips. Delivery quick and hot really enjoyed plenty of chicken etc. Really enjoyed. 27.1.24 Ordered chicken in OK sauce prawn toast with half portion sweet sour sauce with delivery 16.80. Food lovely but should have been warmer also no sweet sour delivered this was 1.50. Did send prawn crackers. Other than that enjoyed.

Called in tonight, order my meal, quality was very poor, king prawn battered , not sure they were prawns , shocking …. Threw the meal in the bin sadly … we also had fried rice with prawns curry, you guessed , threw it in the bin, that’s two people opions…. Absouloutly terrible £17…. I will never cross the threshold again, biterley disappointed.

Best and most tasty Chinese takeaway in Wakefield. Love the food and staff are friendly. Great menu and fast delivery. I highly recommend them. Curry is lovely. 😊

Stay well clear of Yangs! The worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. Special fried rice was dry and had no meat or goodies in it whatsoever! Chicken Czechuan was the worst bit! The sauce smelled and looked like gravy and had no Chinese taste to it whatsoever, and pepper chips was a poor effort! I telephoned them to ask for my money back and they said there was nothing they could do. I'd rather starve than eat there ever again!

Expensive tasteless and prices go up every time you go not worth a visit throw most of the food away compleat rip off

Not had a takeaway for quite a long time but thoroughly enjoyed our special curry with soft thin noodles defo recommend.

Ordered chicken in black bean sauce with egg fried rice, so disappointed hardly any chicken but lots of green peppers (not even cooked). Peppers at least 50% of dish. Won't bother again ☹

Really can’t fault this place. Lived round the corner for years and rarely used until recently. But, I have to say having used it for the last few weeks, it’s bang on. Also, go that extra mile too.

When you go to shop to order make sure you add your order up first because the woman taking your order can’t use the calculator and food only standard

Ordered Crispy Special in Ok Sauce....the chips appear to have been warmed up from yesterday. Sauce appeared to have been made in bulk rather than fresh. No veg in the meal just meal and sauce. Really poor quality. Family members meal (beef curry) similar poor quality, ate 1/4 of it and then through the rest away. Won’t be going back

Waiting to still be tagged by yangs that I’ve been delivered so I can get a refund from just eat for been given grey meat and raw ribs meat could of been any animal never again

We were staying from out of the area so looked up a Chinese takeaway. Yangs had good reviews so we went with it. Really tasty food and good size portions. We couldn't eat it all. Would order from here again if in the area.

We had a meal from here last night and it was delicious.I had salt and pepper prawns with noodles my husband had spicy chicken with chilli and fried rice .we also got a portion of salt and pepper chips, excellent the best Chinese we've had for a long time

We have tried every Chinese in the local area from the best rated to the most expensive and have to say Yangs is the best around the area, always cooked properly, always hot when arrives, very tasty!!! Staff are friendly and polite. We have been using Yangs for a few months now and wouldn’t go back anywhere else.

We have been using Yangs a number of years and although we have tried others, this has always been the best locally. Tonight's take-away was different. So much so we noticed the different and polite voice at the end of the phone wen we ordered and even the colour of the food was different. The complimentary bag of crackers was the icing on the cake as we haven't had this from a Chinese take-away for a long time. Both our meals, special curry and special black bean and green pepper were very tasty. I had to phone them to compliment them on the food. It transpires new owners are the answer to the changes. Just keep it up.

Always a good take-away from Yangs. Sometimes a bit garlicky but it does mean you always get a place at the pub bar! :)

Yangs is hands down the worst Chinese takeaway I have ever experienced. As a takeaway tested student, I've had my fair share of Chinese takeaways. My girlfriend and I ordered a special chow mein and a beef chow mein. It was plain and simply a pile of grease with the noodles and the main dish separated, with a sheer lack of content. It consisted of just meat and bean sprouts that tasted absolutely horrendous. This establishment does not even deserve 1 star.

Very nice food cooked on time for collection. Used to use this take away years ago, due to moving house this has again become our local Chinese take away. No complaints at all.

Always happy. Never feel disappointed. Always ready really fast. Staff always happy. Food always good quality and hot. Very happy customer.

Food was oily & tasteless & this is the third time it was like this so definitely won't be going again! Really disappointed
