Yandle & Sons in South Somerset

Another trip to Yandles to purchase a Robert Sorby Pro edge sharpener. We regularly visit this tool outlet because we always get fantastic service! So it was no surprise it was the same again. Many thanks to Dan for his expert demonstration of this machine. What I find extremely valuable is the after sales follow up! I would strongly recommend Yandles, their customer care is second to none!

Brilliant service fast delivery and the oak is perfect

I've used Yandles for many years. They have never let me down. The Triton TPT125 thicknesser I have just bought was delivered next day as promised. It has proven to do exactly what it says on the box, very impressive machine

Visited today with family. Nice friendly staff. I had a nice cheese scone, my son and husband had BLT in a gluten free roll and they said it was amazing! My son’s partner had fruit scones that were lovely too. I shared a gluten free lemon and ginger cake with my husband (very tasty). Our mochas were also nice. Would definitely come back again as we only live in Crewkerne. I love the craft shop, they sell the colouring pencils I use which is handy when I want more to buy.

Excellent service from Tony. From helping me find the right piece of wood to planing and preparing the wood ready for shelving. Couldn’t ask for more.

Yandles. Exceptional service, superb staff. Highly recommend. HOWEVER. PLEASE STOP USING Pallet force - they are an absolute disgrace of a courier. They let you down terribly. I’ll obviously be delighted to purchase regularly from Yandles and recommend to others but I’ll make sure machinery purchases will fit in my boot and urge that my friends do likewise. There is a very good reason Pallet Force have a very low rating, it is earned from appalling service to the end consumer, whilst they may offer outstanding local service to the shipper, the end customer literally pays heavily for their incompetent delivery, wasting considerable time and money. I would be happy to supply all relevant details to the directing mind at Yandles but I am certain that I am not the first to suffer these issues.

I went to get some wood to make a plinth for a steam engine and the staff were so helpful. It was a late visit, half an hour before they closed, but they made the time to really look after me and get me something that sorted my needs. My only criticism is that it would have made my life a bit easier if they were able to cut to length. Otherwise fantastic, and I'll be back

Every woodworkers dream, tools and lumber, an amazing complex with a great cafe and craft store. Lovely staff.

Updated: I really appreciate the prompt response. Just to be clear the particular slice of cake was pushed to one side from the rest of the cake as it had completely disintegrated except for the outside edge. I noticed it had gone when I returned to pick up my takeaway and just assumed it had been taken off the cake platter as it didn’t look appetizing. I didn’t think it would have been put into my order and then mixed in with the other cake I bought. I I have marked down simply because I bought some takeaway cakes. I did notice that one of their cakes I wanted had a slice that had crumbled and was in pieces. I went off to do some shopping and the person serving obviously it was a good way to get rid of it while still charging the full price. They put it in the box with another cake I bought so when I got home they had mixed together. Rather poor attitude knowing you could fob it off on someone ordering takeaway as they wouldn’t check the box before leaving.

Really great shop, stocked with absolutely everything you could need for woodturning! We’ve been back at least 3 times now. All the team are super helpful and really informative too!

We came for lunch after a browse around the local area and were particularly surprised at how packed the café was. Despite a small wait, we managed to get a table and were extremely impressed with the professionalism of the staff behind the counter at what must have been a very stressful time. An extremely polite and smiley young man took our order and a delightful lady delivered our coffees in a timely manner and also with a big smile despite the hectic rush. Frittata highly recommended. Will visit again.

Very unfriendly and unprofessional staff. One older woman staff member was rude and confrontational, when I mentioned that my coffee was very weak. The blt was dry and tasteless and there was no mayonnaise sauce.

Lovely place to visit. Large craft barn with lovely items to buy. Cream teas to die for! Also a shop with wools, art supplies, material, at very reasonable prices.

Fabulous breakfast, service very good, we will certainly go back again.

This is just the best place for woodturners! The staff, especially Tony, are helpful but not intrusive - every turner knows you want to browse when you’re there. The knowledge and information from the staff is so helpful to a relative newbie. Their prices are fair and their range of both tools and wood is extensive. On site there is also a craft shop, gift type shop and a cafe so everyone is happy!

Wow! Tony was so helpful with the wood we wanted today. We have gone home very happy customers. Felt informed, looked after and helped. Tony was also good at letting us know about other events going on. Well done Tony! We’ll be back!

Great service and knowledgeable, friendly staff with some great products which we use in our workshops.

I contacted Yandle & Sons in search of replacement sapele bench slats. The team were excellent in sorting out correct sizes and profiles and processing the order. I was kept informed and they were delivered to me very quickly. The quality was first class and what was a very sorry bench now has pride of place again.

I started wood turning this year & my first port of call for bowl blanks was Yandle & Sons. I have experienced first class levels of advice and service. Nothing is too much trouble and the quality of the timber is superb. Online ordering is straightforward and you can leave notes with your order with specific information/requirements. They have a large range of species to choose from; both homegrown and the more exotic! I'd highly recommend Yandle & Sons.

Absolute jokers. Bought some superglue just before closing on Sunday afternoon. Opened it to find it had gone off. It actually looked faded old stock. Returned Monday morning and ask for a refund as the remaining looked old as well. Wouldn't refund as I didn't have the receipt but would exchange "as a goodwill". Their till receipt would show I came in at the exact time I said and it had thier stickers on the packaging. Have spent considerable amount of money here over the years, even though they are more expensive than online. I believe in using local businesses first before online retailers. That is now my last purchase from Yandels. REPLY TO YANDELS RESPONCE BELOW: How convenient to say I was rude and bullied your staff. If one was of colour I'm sure you would play the race card as well. In no way, shape or form was I rude or bullied yourself or your staff. Yes I opened the replacement glue packet, how else could I see if it ran? You were the ones with the attitude and terrible customer service and also the ones selling out of date stock. The replacement glue was a stiff gel, not runny as it should be. Judging by your low star reviews it seems you're never in the wrong if there's a problem. That's fine, I judge businesses by how they deal with issues (you knew very well that was purchased and out of date from your store, hence reduced £) but in this instance I won't support this local (I live around the corner) business. All over a £9 super glue. Have yourself good day.

Ordered a Record Power Coronet lathe, arrived today in good order. I must say it was very well packed, a lot of thought went into designing the brackets etc.

Ordered Record 8" sharpener, after I paid I received an email to say it wasn't in stock, however, they kept me in the loop and was sent soon as they got stock in which was a few days later. Really pleased with product, well packed and easy to use, I have super sharp gouges. Made mince.meat of this log!

What can I say but a fabulous service. Nothing was too much trouble for the guys in the timber yard and the knowledge and advice they gave me was second to none. Excellent company to deal with wonderful products

I visited Yandles, having been aware of it as a place online to buy woodworking tools, whilst visiting Martock and was blown away by how great it was. A decent cafe, lots of parking, a decent craft shop, but an amazing selection of lumber, which to my mind was very keenly priced. Also the woodworking tool shop side is unbelievable: a very strong selection of tools, with both budget models and better quality, higher cost stuff for those more serious or experienced or with a serious tool addiction. I especially appreciated the bench of Veritas planes that anyone can try out on bits of wood: those beautiful (and pricey!) tools really sell themselves once you feel them in the hand and see how well they work. I talked to a sales guy (sorry, I forgot your name) who was amazingly helpful and informative. I noticed some negative reviews on here about online buying in the past, but I think having an amazing local place you can actually see the tools and materials before buying, staffed with helpful, knowledgeable people would beat any kind of Internetonly warehouse, no matter about some logistical missteps. I will do my best to support them in the future, long may you continue!

Last Friday we went to another of Yandles monthly free woodturning demonstrations. This is a two hour event and is always very interesting and informative for everyone. Today, I went to Yandles’ “Woodturning with RPT Alan Thomas: Box making with Semi-Precious Stone Inlays!” Yandles have free presentations every so often and today was the second such presentation I have been to. It was great! Alan Thomas was professional, informative, and very helpful. Well done, Yandles, for organising this event.

I purchased a new lathe and accessories. I was given a clear presentation on the model I was interested in and the sales guy (Adam) was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was also kind with some discounting as part of a package of lathe and accessories. Highly recommended and a great improvement on another well know South West supplier of lathes, which shall remain nameless. Thank you.

Always happy to help, even when stuff gets lost. I bought my Charnwood lathe from Yandle with loads of extra 'stuff' I needed - I wish I lived nearer to take advantage of their demonstrations. Well pleased.

Met a friend for coffee and a catch up Artist accessories, knitting & sewing accessories and fabrics in one unit, locally made crafts in another, a sawmill with timber and tools for sale all on one site.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff, excellent prices that are difficult to beat even online (believe me I've tried) and a whole host of fancy exotic wood you'll rarely find all under the same roof.

The wood was purchased to repair the bench perfect does a fantastic job.

Yandles has a great selection of timber. It is really well organized and it is very useful to have one face of the timber planed so you can see the grain and colouring. Tony was extremely helpful . A definite recommendation if you are looking to choose your own timber.

Range in wood shop amazing and staff super nice and helpful. Same in craft shop, fabulous. Art gallery fabulous art work and jewelry and food superb.

Not the cheapest but probably the best at what they do. I have been a couple of times and the place always amazes me. Their stock levels are really good as are the qualities of what they sell. So for quality timber, tools, machinery and service, do visit!

Great 'Bandaw Masterclass' presented by Dan today. Clear, consise, and informative. Learned a lot.

Enjoyed the bandsaw talk very interesting learned a lot had watched the Record Power dvd read the manual watched every set up film on you tube and this hour made more sense than all that put together. Went home and redid now saw working as should or better than before many thanks spent a load shop team great very helpful a good experience all round

Have been to Yandles before and found everyone brilliant. This time I needed a BS300e band-saw, quickly. I phoned them up, Ash took my call and found only two in stock. He ensured that my order for the following day was honoured on this item and delivered in course. Later when I had a problem, Ash forwarded my concerns onto Record Power, who then phoned me later direct to me. Thank you Ash, for your quick response and a big thank you to Record Power to resolve the issue. Gold stars all round.

I have bought 2 big items from Yandles. 1 a bandsaw and 2 a dust extractor. The service and after care I've from them has been very good. Their communication is very good at each stage of purchase and delivery. The delivery has been good too. The ease of navigating through their website is very easy to do and the staff I've spoken to are knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend this company and the prices are very reasonable too.

My husband and I have always loved coming here - the shop/cafe being my favourite bit, and the toolshop was always my husband's. We have noticed a decline in customer service recently and the last time we came, we unfortunately didn't have a very good experience. In their credit however, I received a genuine apology from Adam upon my initial review. They obviously do care. Yandles selection of timber and tools is very good. I really hope their customer service improves to what it once was and this is balanced across the entire team.

Always a trip I look forward to, visiting Yandles. Today I was looking for advice on pillar drills and got what I needed - a Record Power unit with associated bits and pieces. Also spent far too long drooling over the selection of wood available - just went for a long piece of beech which was cut for me to fit in the Landy! Fantastic place, I love the woodworking shop, wide selection of tools both hand and power, very glad to have such a great place so local. If you like your woodwork and your in the area get down here and make sure you got some money to spend because there will definitely be something you will want. Also got to mention the fantastic range of woods they have out the back, something for every project and budget, big thumbs up to the team

Love this place. I come for the gifts and crafts shops, my husband for the tools and wood supplies. Fascinating place. Great cafe. We travel from South West Wales to here because I know I will always find something I love for a present or for myself.

Went for some workshop machinery their prices are very competitive and the sales staff are 2nd to none. I would highly recommend will be be going back in the near future.

Great Coffee Shop with a wide selection cakes, snacks, breakfast and lunch at a reasonable cost. Plus the shop has plenty of gifts and artist's originals whether in wood, pottery and pictures. The Fabric Shop has plenty of materials for the artist / painter / quilter, etc. Nearly forgot there is another Shop for the wood worker from materials to specialist hand and electric tools. Overall, well worth a visit.

Amazing place to visit for all. They have the most incredible historic saw mill still currently producing top quality timber, well stocked shop and timber yard. Also boasting gift shops, cafe and gallery. All staff are super friendly and helpful, even got a mini tour with Dan. Definitely going back soon.

Such a lovely place, I'm sure you would find a special gift for anyone there. The cafe seemed nice, coffee was good, but I was disappointed at the size of the tiny cup my coffee was served in. I'd ordered a double shot assuming it was a medium/large size. Serving it in the hot chocolate cup size would be great !

We were lucky to find some PAR sapele in just the right dimensions to make a wooden steering wheel rim for a First World War vehicle. I was concerned about the glue joints but your helpful store manager suggested titebond 11 glue which proved more than up to the job. Excellent service and a pleasure, as always, to visit

Great cake and coffee outside in the sun 🌞.

Spent nearly £100 there today. Not a thank you or anything from the young man on the till. Walked around for twenty minutes and no one asked if I needed help. It’s like a private club where they laugh at beginners. No help at all.

A fantastic crafter's hobbies and professionals store, with tools, arts and plenty of materials. Laid out over a few buildings. The friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff help if you need it. Well worth a visit, in the beautiful village of Martock. There is also a fantastic and popular café and shop here with customers toilet. Great food and friendly staff.
