I come here regularly on my own and with my girlfriend and friends and this place never lets me down. It’s always a friendly welcome and great service. The menu has plenty of variety of all the usual Japanese favourites and everything is made fresh. We had sushi, ramen, veg curry and duck skewers and all were tasty. The meal (with a beer) was under £30! You can’t beat this lovely little place 😌

Delicious Japanese food at this local neighbourhood restaurant. Everything we ordered (sushi and sashimi and a selection of yakitori plus a few other dishes) was well prepared, fresh and tasty. Prices are very reasonable. We look forward to returning soon.

Its a small, light and airy room with the grill at the front and kitchens out of sight at the back. The expansive menu has a speciality of small grilled dishes which are excellent. Sushi and sashimi very fresh and generous portions, tempura and cooked meat dishes also very good. its not expensive, very friendly and thankfully, it's local !

I went here for lunch with a friend and had the chicken teriyaki and the salad and miso soup and it was one of the best Japanese meals I’ve had in while. My friend got the salmon teriyaki and she absolutely loved it. Value for money and the staff was very friendly. Definitely recommended and I will visit it again :)

I have bene there several times with different people with great experience in food and travel...and every time everybody were supprized with fresh fish and great tastes...we tried gyoza, sushi, sashimi, tempura and everything was tastefull and fresh and prepared in traditional manner...service was excellent they are all very pulite with true intent to ensure everything what is needed so that guests feel wellcome and pleasant! I enjoyed every single moment I have spent there. Defenatly Yama Yama is place that anyone who love good food shoud visit!

This small Japanese restaurant is run by a husband and wife team. The food is always excellent, cooked on an open grill in front of you. I have visited often and never had a bad meal. Their set lunch menu is excellent value for money. They also provide a take away service.

Yama Yama is quite simply the best mid priced Japanese restaurant in North London. The menu looks too large and too difficult to do well but most items are small plates and the grill chef is a wizard. The maki gyozas and other non grill items magically appear from the back area, and they are always of a very high standard too. The service is also terrific. The lady even remembered what we ordered last time. The only thing to improve this place would be to allow a byo policy. Sumo’r for me please. I’ll get my coat.

Good Japanese food . A lot of variety to suit everyone . Have options for vegetarians as well as Vegans . Service is also efficient and personal . Most importantly it’s very reasonably priced .

We went for dinner on a Saturday evening. The food was excellent, the service was attentive and efficient and the prices were reasonable. I will definitely come again.

Yama Yama is something we look forward to every time we visit London. From the sushi to the asparagus maki to the yaktori it is all of the best standard and we cannot find fault with it. Lily always provides the best service and I will be coming back very soon!

First visit to this restaurant and to a Japanese restaurant. Very friendly staff and had a selection of dishes to share. All the food was prepared / cooked nicely and presented well. The food very fresh and tasted good. Meal was inexpensive.

Visited this place on a Thursday evening. Very relaxed, nice atmosphere. Food was great, we had eel, gyoza, takoyaki and saporo beer. My partner lived in Japan and told me the food was very authentic Very fast, friendly service. Couldn't be happier as price came to £20 each :)

We were stuck for something to eat and we fancied something different to our usual cuisine so we opted for Japanese. Picked this place based on the Google reviews and it was between this and Wagamamas. I am still shaking my head at this place.Relatively smallish restaurant with a chef on a grill just as you walk into the place. We ordered a couple of Yakitori's, an Asparagus, Ebi Tempura, Nabe Taki Udon and Chicken Katsu Curry. I ordered the Yakitoris because they were only £1.80 and when we received them, that is all that they were worth to be honest! About 3 small bits of chicken with onion. The Asparagus was £1.80 too, but we only ordered 1 skewer. The Ebi Tempura was £9 and my god that was a rip off! Totally bland batter and far too oily! The watery sauce which accompanied it was tasteless too. For the mains, we had a Chicken Katsu Curry and Nabe Yaki Udon.The only other place I have to compare for the Chicken Katsu Curry is Wagamamas and they would win hands down over this dish! The real disappointment was the Nabe Yaki Udon! We never expected this to be a bowl of hot water with udon noodles, broccoli, egg floating on some green stuff, chicken and a piece of ebi tempura that was just soaked in water! I was thoroughly disgusted with this dish that we left it. At no point did any of the staff check to see if we were happy and to make matters worse, we were charged for service which was nonsense! This place has a lot to learn in terms of ensuring diners leave satisfied especially as we are not the type to kick up a stink while dining out. Maybe we were unlucky with what we chose, but I highly doubt it!

As a huge fan of japanese food, I was told by a friend to check this place out. We were so happy we listened to him. The staff are extremely friendly and the food is excellent. We have been here a number of times in the last 2 months already and everytime it has delivered the same quality and service. Make sure you eat the black cod, the chicken teriyaki and the Chicken katsu curry.

We had guests over recently and chose to take them out for dinner to Yama Yama, partly because we have not been here before but also because we all enjoy Japanese food. At this point I'd like to point out that our guests have never tried sushi or similar tho by the end of the evening we had all joined the fan club.Yama Yama is a small but perfectly formed Japanese restaurant on East Finchley high street. There's an open fire grill by the window and several tables on each side of the room. Exactly what you would expect from a Japanese eatery. Very friendly staff and the grill chef (and the owner/proprietor) could not do enough for us, every little whim sucesfully taken care of. And boy did we try...Sushi was fresh and magical, gyoza warm and sweet, hot sake cheerful and grill..well that was just outstanding ! Beautiful skewers of delightful bites are too many to mention but the one that stood out for me was shizo maki - the reason why God put a man on Earth...absolutely divine ! What a find and what a value for money. Needless to say we are defo going back, and next weekend sounds like a grand idea.

Very personal and friendly service. Great quality food. Do keep an eye out for the specials board and don't be afraid to ask for recommendations. Also do consider the lunchtime meal deal. Fantastic value.

Food was good, but came without wasabi. Just Eat stated food would arrive at 8:35. Said it had been delivered but wasn't actually received until 9:00. Restaurant was very kind and helpful. Bit frustrating.

The food is really nothing special but prices are low and owner/waitress friendly and willing. Sushi is decent, grilled skewers are basic. Tempura is well executed though king prawns large but tasteless. Quick and inexpensive.

Yama Yama has a much better menu with a wider range of Japanese foods than most of the basic sushi places you find in central London. The quality of that food was also very good, though it might be nice to pack the Katsu separate from the curry to maintain the crispiness they clearly work hard to achieve. We'll definitely be ordering from here again to sample more of that menu and enjoyed our first order quite a bit :-)

Everything arrived cold, the tempura was soggy, the gyoza had fallen apart, and the soup was certainly Overpriced considering it was the soze of a tea mug. If incould ask for my money back i would.

The food is usually great, although this time I couldn't enjoy it as much since it arrived 30 minutes earlier than requested, even if I left a comment with the delivery time. So I had to leave it in the oven and, when I could finally have dinner, the quality wasn't as good as usual.

I stumbled across this place about 6 months ago. Now I probably eat there 2-3 times a week!Understated from the outside it would be easy to walk straight past Yama Yama. Inside, it is also a simple, almost homely place. You're always welcomed with a smile and as you walk in you'll notice a stainless steel bbq. Keep that firmly in your mind!The menu is rather large and I am yet to try anything I haven't enjoyed. The sushi, as you will read elsewhere on TripAdvisor is phenomenal. The curry is lovely, tempura dishes. ...it's all amazing.But....there is one rather hidden gem that you may miss on that menu. Remember that bbq I mentioned? OK. ...skip to the grill section of the menu and delve in! The pork belly, the quail's eggs, the duck.....ohhhhhhh boy. Try dipping these amazing bbq'd skewers in their amazing chilli sauce if you like hot food. You'll have never have tasted anything like it. Now then....one thing NOT to miss out on. Chicken livers. Yep, that's right, chicken livers. Now these skewers will take your tastebuds to another level. Stratospheric levels in fact. With an astonishingly good yakitori glaze 'quick marinade' they taste like nothing else. "I don't like liver" I hear you cry. Believe me.....if word got out on these skewers you'd never get a table in this restaurant. They are THAT good!!! I can't stop eating them and they still taste as good as the first day I tried them!OK I'm salivating, I need to go and eat some skewers. I even call ahead now so I don't have to wait too long to get fix! Who needs drugs when you can eat food this good! :)

Where to begin... Food was meant to come in an hour, called up after an hour and fifteen asking where the food was and the manager said the driver was not even back at the restaurant yet. I asked for compensation and she reluctantly have us £5 off our meal. The woman then LIED and said the driver had arrived at the restaurant even though he hadn't. Half an hour passes and I call up again and she is insistent that the food is not cold and will give us a full refund and that the food is on its way now. This was also a lie as we waited another 20 minutes before calling back asking what was going on. The woman says the food will be there in 10 minutes and we'd get £10 off our meal which was not we'd agreed to. The food comes in five minutes. As for the food ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING was DISGUSTING and INEDIBLE, not only were the 3 katsu's that had been ordered absolutely saturated and falling apart it was so soggy, the actual sushi was atrocious. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE, these people are rude, liars and their food was disgusting. The only way you could enjoy a meal from there would be if you had your taste buds removed and enjoyed eating food that had the same texture as faeces!

I don 't think I shall ever tire of his little Restaurant in East Finchley, N2 - my family and I went there once again and enjoyed the delicious food - service impeccable - friendly owners and staff - nothing is too much trouble for them; choosing the different dishes on the menu is great - and it tastes wonderful! I feel lucky to be living so close to this restaurant.

Just had our second lunch take away from Yama Yama in East Finchley & it was gorgeous.Having lived in Japan previously it was so good to find a really authentic independent restaurant, whose food is just as I remember in the outskirts of Kyoto.The staff are so courteous and don't mind explaining to the novice so if you're not sure what to order, don't worry!Also they are well known for their grill section... The teriyaki chicken is excellent.

I requested for only 1 thing... Which is to provide soy sauce - no soy sauce in the bag. I guess they don't really read the 'notes' when you order. Also a bit expensive for the food quality :(

The salad was horrible, it was very over priced for what it was and it did not match the menu description. It was just grated ginger with cucumber and seaweed. The tuna dish had barely any tuna and lots of beans...it tasted awful. The sushi rolls were great though. .

Disappointed in lack of variety in hosomaki which is probably just a lack of clarity in the description. Menu said "12 pcs hosomaki avocado, mushroom, asparagus, aubergine & yellow pickles" but we got 6 cucumber and 6 yellow pickle.

Great Japanese food & genuinely friendly service. I noticed the other day that they buy their ingredients from Tony's Continental on the High Road - first class ingredients make for first class meals. We are really lucky to have this little place in N2.

We have been to this restaurat many,many times and are never, never disappointed. superb food and friendly staff.

I live up the road from here and go on occasion. If you are looking for Nobu or Sushi Samba then you are in the wrong place. This isn't trying to be posh sushi, it is just regular, pleasant sushi. The sushi is freshly made and tastes great. The service is friendly. The skewers they do are great. Good food. Good atmosphere. Perfect.

Very disappointing! The normal place I order sushi from was closed so based on reviews I've ordered from here. Sushi is not great at all. Rice as hard and not the normal sticky rice, salmon was not so fresh, overall, not going to order from there again. There are by far better options than this one..

Food was fantastic and tasted more authentic then most of the other asian cuisine takeaways in the area. Not greasy and the sushi was exceptional, clearly a lot of love has been put into their food, which shows. Quick delivery and was even gifted a free asahi beer with my purchase. Definitely recommend!

Great place to spend an evening with the family. Wonderful service and amazing food. As it is a family run, independent restaurant, great care and pride is taken with their food and service. It makes it a different and more special experience as chain restaurants have less character and soul. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. We tried many things off the menu, including sushi, grilled food and my daughter's favourite, chicken teriyaki. None of us could fault the food and I would highly recommended Yama Yama, especially those who appreciate good cuisine in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

We eat regularly at Yama Yama in East Finchley. The Japanese food is excellent and the sushi/sashimi is "melt in your mouth" fresh. The service is very friendly. The decor is very unfussy and this might put some people off. For me, it is part of its charm. This is a hidden gem of a restaurant on the East Finchley High Rd.

Have been frequenting Yama Yama over the last year and although I was not overwhelmed on my first visit the subsequent visits have been fantastic. The quality of the food as well as the level of service has been top notch. The couple that run the restaurant always make sure we feel welcome.

The shamimi had was wonderful but the hand roll mediocre - not filled fully like other places. My wife had ramen with prawn tambura - which was delicious but not enough tampura. Our friends sushi looked delicious.

Used to go went back but has become average/poor. Sushi quality average tiny amount of fish in roll, bought all dishes out together - shame used to be good.

No chopsticks given. Had to eat with a fork! And no soy sauce also. Definitely a first time for that!

It's hard to take a Japanese restaurant seriously with an apparently nearly total Polish staff. Service was good but food was bland and uninteresting.

We discovered this local restaurant in East Finchley about three years ago when our kids moved in the area. Our son loves the place and he is the one who first took us there. The restaurant is unpretentious but could do with a bit of freshening up. The sushi and sashimi are freshly made and the best we've tried locally. There is a variety of grilled dishes cooked on the open grill at the front of the restaurant as well as the usual teryaki, katsu, soft shell crab, black cod etc. We like the food so much that we always order too much leaving no space for desserts. The owner is very friendly and accommodating and the staff polite and helpful. Prices are reasonable and we keep coming back.

We found this place after our usual haunt turned us away for lack of space one weekend. The staff are friendly and approachable and happy to explain the dishes on offer. There is a casual, no pressure ambience to the place, which we prefer, and the freedom to choose as much or as little food as one wants. There is an open grill area where the chef prepares the food to order, so you can see exactly how it's being cooked.If you visit at lunchtime they have a special offer that includes free rice, miso soup and salad with any main dish over a certain price.

All the dishes at this Japanese restaurant were very good but the Salmon teryaki and the sea bream were outstanding as was the cucumber and sea weed salad,which was cleansing and refreshing.Service was fast and helpful and there is plenty of alcohol to choose from including Tsing Tao beer.Chestnut ice cream was a worthy dish to finish with.The dishes off the grill were also delicious.I imagine that this place can get very busy so worth booking.

Took 2 hours, literally 2 hours to arrive. Stone cold. 2 quid delivery charge to add insult to injury. Food fatty and greasy. Worst ever just eat experience. Avoid.

After an hour and a half waiting time I've phoned the restaurant, I've been told that the delivery driver got lost, and he will be delivering our order withing a few minutes, then I've got a call from the restaurant asking if I could !! phone the driver and explain!! the location. I'm about 3 minutes from the restaurant, and at the first failed delivery I should have received a phone call from the driver, also this isn't he first time it happened. High road drive straight 3 minutes and its a massive block of flats, I don't understand how can it be missed...

Love Japanese food so seeing this place on East Finchley high street was a delight - and we weren't disappointed.I had a pork ramen whilst my partner had the eel teriyaki special. The ramen was tasty, but it was the eel that really knocked it out the park - delicious. Home made gyozas were also very flavourful without being too greasy.Dessert was homemade ice cream, with a good selection of flavours - the black sesame seed was particularly moreish and had a really nice consistency. Will be visiting again - keen to try the katsu and sashimi platters.

When I was a boy we didn't faff around with cuisines from around the globe. We had a tin of spam and a few potatoes and we were happy for it, too! But as a man in my twilight years with few opportunities left to me, I made it my mission to sample as many different cuisines as possible. I stumbled down the high road to Yama Yama and ate some truly delectable fish, as well as a bowl of noodles in an ocean of some sort of delightful broth. Not my cup of tea, but would recommend ifyou like this style of food

On way home we explored off the North Circular and ended up here. The yakitori was excellent with plenty of choice and the teriyaki chicken was wolfed down by our kids. Nothing fancy but good flavours, quick service and reasonably priced for an unplanned dinner. We'd make a special trip to East Finchley just to try it again.

The sushi and sashimi was mediocre. The rice was undercooked. The nori (seaweed) was stale and limp. The fish was ok. The Service was efficient and friendly. The prices were very good. Overall, It's ok to mediocre, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this place.As calibration, I am Japanese so maybe my standards for Japanese food is higher than regular visitors, so take my review with a grain of salt.

This was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Firstly the food- I ordered a chicken katsu curry and it was passable at best. The curry sauce tasted like something you would find at a cheap fish and chip shop. My boyfriend ordered the chicken teryaki and it was inedible. The "chicken" had no meat to it, it was just huge, conjioned lumps of chicken skin and fat. A few of our table tried it and nobody could stomach it. In fact my boyfriend was sick when we got home. We returned the dish and said we wouldnt bother with a replacement (it was also very late so most people had nearly finished their meals by this point) and the waitress initially took the dish but then came back to our table, trying to preause him to eat the now cold food and refusing to accept there was anything wrong with it. However, the worse part of the evening came when the waitress was clearing our plates, she carelessly spilt greasy noodle soup all down my coat and another diners coat. I was visiby upset (the coat was brand new, expensive, and I loved it) and she begrudgingly offered me £10 for dry cleaning. This clearly isn't enough but when we asked for £10 for the other diner who had his coat covered in grease, she refused and practically shouted at us, trying to make me feel guilty for taking £10 "out of her purse"! Why should I feel guilty when she potentially ruined a coat worth 10 times that and I didnt even get an apology! We left immediately, with me in tears. So in summary, AVOID THIS PLACE!!!

Nice and fresh but a bit cold by the time it got to me (it took the full hour they said it might), so the chicken katsu was pretty soggy. good food in general though, and nice delivery staff.

Yama Yama is superb. Really authentic if your looking for proper Japanese food. Skewers are the one to go for, as this place has a proper Yakitori grill. 'But a Kakuni' (pork belly) is awesome too. Ramen's aren't the best, but the sushi, tempura, everything else is awesome, friendly service too. Always better to eat in if you can, some dishes just aren't designed for travelling.

Late, cold, looks like some of it was microwaved as it was soggy and congieled. Below expectations.

Incredibly disappointed. Food was almost 2 hours late and cold. I had to chase the restaurant to track the order down. The restaurant blamed Just Eat, the deliver driver blamed the kitchen. I end up paying £26 for a meal I have to microwave. Hungry House have a 45mins or your next meal free guarantee - guess I know where I'll be going next.

Japansk mat är så mycket mera en bara sushi. När jag käkar på Yama Yama, så är det som att vara i Japan. Massor av goda små rätter, himmelsk plumvin och varm sake - allt till en billig pris. Det går lätt timmar när man sitter och eter så här. Ett tips är att testa allt!

Really good sushi (especially considering the price). Obviously the extra message box is not read - and hence special wishes not recognised (that´s why only 5 stars in service). Anyway, definitely recommendable! I order Sushi there once a week...
