Yakamoz in York

Its a gem in the center of York near the most tourist attractions. The staff and the owner Resit is are extremely friendly and professional. The beyti kebab was a treat made me feel like i was in a restaurant in Turkiye . It was served with homemade chili sauce , fresh salad and pide bread it was absolutely delicious and very well presented . The restaurants is very clean and had a great atmosphere. Don’t forget to try baklava and Turkish tea after your main course.

Reservamos este restaurante para una cena temprano debido a su proximidad al Minster, ya que íbamos a un evento después, y nos alegramos mucho de que lo hicimos - excelente comida y gran servicio. Tuvimos 2 x mini parrilla, y la caña de cordero, seguido de postres, incluyendo baklava, y todos estaban deliciosos. El pan Lavash de cortesía para comenzar fue una adición bienvenida. ¡Estamos deseando volver otro día!

The bread is free,is very delicious Also the Yakamoz mix grilled is huge and is new in the menu, orange tea is tasty fresh

The place is beautifully decorated, colorful and comfortable seats, nice music…. But the food!!! Wow, very delicious! 10/10

Nuestra primera cena en el primer día en York, no podríamos haber elegido mejor. Cada uno que pasamos era tan ruidoso, y queríamos algo diferente de todos los lugares italianos y de pizza, entonces encontramos Yakomoz. Aunque ocupado, era mucho más tranquilo. El saludo fue tan acogedor, que nos sentamos rápidamente y esperamos. El menú era refrescantemente diferente con una buena gama de opciones. Los entrantes llegaron rápido. La comida estaba recién cocinada, muy bien servida y deliciosa sin mucho retraso entre platos. Los camareros fueron amables y atentos durante toda la comida. No podíamos haber esperado más.

The food is very good, it reflects traditional Turkish cuisine very well. It is a very good option compared to many restaurants in York. We also thank the chef.

I don't understand why this place has such a high score. I had kusbasili pide(cubed beef pide). It had hardly 50 grams of meat in it. If this dish was sold in Turkiye, the restaurant would go bankrupt in 15 days. If this food was served to the owner of this restaurant in Turkiye, he would never accept this poor quality. But poor English people think this is what "cubed pide/Turkish cousine” means. I left restaurant hungry!

No entiendo por qué este lugar tiene una puntuación tan alta. Yo tenía kusbasili pide (pedido de ternera en cubos). Apenas tenía 50 gramos de carne. Si este plato se vendiera en Turkiye, el restaurante quebraría en 15 días. Si esta comida fuera servida al dueño de este restaurante en Turkiye, nunca aceptaría esta mala calidad. Pero los ingleses pobres piensan que esto es lo que significa "cubed pide / primo turco". ¡Salí del restaurante con hambre!

Tuvimos una cena temprano. La comida era deliciosa y el personal era amable y servicial. Ojalá viviéramos más cerca para poder ir de nuevo.

Food and service is exceptional. We had the Humus, feta salad and halloumi to start. All amazing especially with the free lavash bread. For mains we shared the mini mixed grill and the mozzarella, feta and sausage pite. So tasty. And a bottle of Pinot to wash it all down. Highly recommend. We will be back.

Just been to this lovely restaurant. We had a lovely meal, portions were fantastic. I have a milk allergy and the server Peri was very informative about the food and I felt at ease straight away, she was excellent!! Couldn’t fault them at all, would defo come back!!

I visited Yakamoz a couple of years ago on a trip to York. It was good to return, and it’s as good as before – great Turkish food with lots of vegetarian choice, and sensible-size portions, attractively presented. The background music isn’t too loud, enabling good conversation. I hope to be back again in not too long.

I had the pleasure of dining at Yokamoz and i was thoroughly impressed. The service was impeccable, with the staff being incredibly friendly and attentive. They made me feel welcome from the moment I stepped in. The food was absolutely delicious. The flavors were authentic and the portions were generous. I tried a Humus and chicken shish , and each one was a delight. The quality of the ingredients was evident in every bite. Overall, my experience at this Turkish restaurant was fantastic. The combination of excellent service, delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere made it a memorable dining experience. I will definitely be returning when I'm back in York.

One of the best Turkish places I've been to with large portions. Really recommend this to anyone strolling around York.

Centrally located Turkish restaurant offering freshly cooked with friendly attentive service. Laid back vibes conducive to social dining rather than a refuelling stop. Chatty chef too!

I was visiting york for the day with my daughter an came across this little Turkish restaurant so we decided to try it for lunch an we are soooo pleased we did -WOW we both chose from the lunch menu and with the complimentary bread an dip it worked a treat - our mains arrived an they were piping hot and just full of flavour I could have eaten it all again but only because the dishes were scrumptious not on the small side for a lunch menu - the waiter an chef were also super friendly checking that everything was ok for us an did we require anything - it really is a little gem of a place and I will most certainly be returning to dine here again when in york - I left full content and wanting to go home an book an holiday to turkey :) 🇹🇷 highly recommend this place :)

UPDATE: STILL my fave restaurant, PLUS New LUNCH DEAL and house-made gluten free pita. We keep on coming back for more! This restaurant is well deserving of 5 stars. From the greeting, to the service, to the cuisine and cleanliness, we were excited to make this a return venue on our list of favorite restaraunts. SERVICE: Thoughtful wait-staff, and a pleasant greeting were offered upon entering. Quality: The meats, produce and spices were all excellent quality. The food always comes out hot, and the freshness is evident. AMBIANCE: Excellent! Beautiful photos of famous Turkish landmarks and themed music made the experience extremely enjoyable. Dinnerware was perfectly suited to the cuisine. FLAVORS: Having been in Turkey, I can attest that the cuisine is authentic, and was on par with the best quality restaurants that we frequented in Turkey. PRESENTATION: Fresh, hot Bazlama flatbread is immediately served right out of the oven on a carved, wooden board, with a cunning little dish of spicy, curry-like paste as an a accompaniment. QUALITY: The mixed grill we ordered was stunning, served on a large earthen-ware plate and beautifully plated. It came with tandoori chicken, wings, grilled lamb, and ground and spiced lamb meatballs. The flavors were fantastic and fresh. The Kodan Kavorma (we chose the lamb option) was flavorful, full of meat, well spiced and excellent flavor. Saffron rice (or bulghur wheat), and a salad of julienned lettuce, fresh tomato, and cucumber sprinkled with a delicious spice mix were served along the side. PRICE: Prices were an excellent value for the amount and quality of food, the service and ambiance. CONCLUSION; an excellent restaurant, and we’ve been a few times since and had the same excellent experience, we’ll return again!

This is a great restaurant in the centre of York to share a meal with family and friends and to try traditional Turkish cuisine. The menu offers a wide range of choice including vegetarian and vegan options and is beautifully presented by friendly and attentive staff. We found the food delicious and enjoyed a very good bottle of wine to go with the meal. Overall a great dining experience we would highly recommend.

Lovely friendly Turkish restaurant with fabulous food. Nothing was too much trouble here. We had a bottle of house red, which was smooth and easy to drink. Our mains were a mini mixed grill, chicken shish and the lamb pide. All were well cooked and beautifully spiced. The bulgar wheat is the star accompiment. Great not too sweet baklava for dessert. Fully recommended and will be coming back again when we are in York.

This is undoubtedly the best restaurant in York.The food is fantastic,better than many restaurants l have eaten in within Turkey. The starters are delicious ,particularly the aubergine mezze,we had about 8 different starters,all of them tasty,fresh and home made.Beautiful homemade bread,which was really wonderful. For main courses my husband and son had the mixed grill,which they thoroughly enjoyed,l am vegetarian,so l had the vegetarian casserole,which was full of flavour. Unfortunately no room for pudding,as good as they looked. This is a family run restaurant ,the owner is a perfectionist,with great attention to detail,a brilliant creative chef.The staff are excellent,attentive without being intrusive,nothing is too much trouble ,and always service with a smile. Whenever we are in York we always visit this restaurant,l cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough,if l could give it 10 stars l would !

We took some of our Irish friends there, as Turkish cuisine is not commonly found there, and it was excellent. Loved the lamb.

We very much enjoyed our dinner here. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed excellent sea bass and Turkish chicken casserole. Presentation was lovely and portions were very generous. Everything was very high quality and beautifully cooked. Would highly recommend.

The Lavash and pepper sauce were great! The mixed grill with chicken, lamb, rice and salad was enough for both of us. The hummus was delicious. The chicken and lamb were over cooked and dry. The rice was bland.

Why don’t we go here more often? I really don’t know, maybe because we like to try other places? This place is absolutely fab. The ambience,the food, the staff! Just everything. We shared the cold mezze. Each wonderful size with the authentic Turkish bread and dip which are complimented. We share a man of beef stew with potatoes. Gorgeous succulent tender beef in an amazing sauce with th3 tasty bulgar wheat and a bottle of red for less than £60. Thank you so much, we won’t leave it so long before we are back. Loved it!

Spent a lovely time at Yakamoz. Had a large party for dinner and the staff were very accommodating offering amazing wine and food recommendations. The food was extremely tasty and fresh. There were great options to choose from and everyone loved their dish. We will be back!

My friend and I were trying to find somewhere to eat and we'd walked past several places which weren't able to squeeze us in. Despite it being very busy the very friendly staff at Yakamov found us a table and by the end of the evening we were both extremely pleased that we hadn't been able to get in elsewhere. The service was excellent and with a smile, the wine was very good, and the food was absolutely delicious - I'd highly recommend the Tas Kebabi (I had mine with beef) and my friend said the same about her Musakka, and both the accompanying options (rice and bulgur wheat) were also above par. And all for a very competitive price!

The taste and service are excellent. We ate kashar pita and cubed pita. While we can't always find such good pita even in Turkey, the food in York surprised and pleased us. The owner is also very friendly and welcoming, thank you.

Food was amazing!!!!! I have vengan and vegetarian food and the taste was great. My friends ordered meat and also mentioned that it was amazing. The waiter was very welcoming, useful providing some suggestions and checking if everything was ok when food arrived. For the quality of the food and the quantity the prices were also good.

Good food. Staff friendly but as it was quiet the servers got a little relaxed. Would go again.

Average meal, average service. The restaurant was really chilly with overly loud music. The mixed mezze was nice but the rest of the meal was average. The food and drinks were quite expensive compared to other places nearby.

Second visit just as good as the first this time last year. Beautifully looked after, great service and yummy food. We had two starters of vine leaves and halloumi then shared the large mixed platter to try everything. The bread was so lovely too and the rice. Good house wine. Fantastic vibe!

I never thought I could find pita bread in England, especially in York. Plus some tea. Pita, grilled meatballs and lamb skewers were extremely successful.

Superb meal. Great suprise to find really good Turkish food in York. Worth a visit.

3 of the.party had never had Turkish food before,.I had, but not this good. Mixed starter with added hummus between four of us set the bar very high. All the food was very tasty, well prepared. The mains surpassed that. Two of us had the fabulous mixed grill. Tender meat, great variation and accompanying rice and salad set it off beautifully. The other dishes were equally superb. The portions are generous so we didn't have dessert. Wine, aperitifs and digestives... Rude not to, came to £50 a head. Great value for a fantastic meal.

Have passed this little restaurant many times, always meaning to visit. Finally had dinner on Thursday evening. Very warm welcome, excellent staff. Food was exceptionally good. Started with Houmous, and given a huge complimentary flat bread, it was delicious. Had different dishes, but each was beautifully presented and spiced. So tasty, generous portions. House Red wine was wonderful, and perfect temperature. Definitely will return.

Have eaten here on a couple of occasions and this is our favourite Turkish restaurant in York. The food is of a good quality and is very tasty, the house red is very good, very friendly staff especially the owner who takes great care of you and the ambience is very nice indeed. Highly recommended.

A mediocre restaurant. It smells bad inside. After the waitress takes the bill, she checks with her voice to see if the money is real. It was a complete disappointment for us. I would never choose again. The 50 pound meal cost for 2 people is also very high. It is not a place with the quality of classic Turkish restaurants.

Portions was small but can't complain

we were looking for a nice halal restaurant when we came across YAKAMOZ. ordered three dishes. the mixed grill was ok . and Ali Nazik was nice but the curry with meat was flat . Home chips were nice . and ..... its very expensive .

Had dinner here in York this evening. Food was a good portion however the flavour was mediocre. The customer service experience in particular was extremely poor. We booked a table specifically for 6pm and at 6:45 we were suddenly told that the “Chef” needs the table back for the next booking and we were very rudely told that we had to leave as soon as possible. We had literally just finished our mains and were about to order tea. I have not experienced this in any other restaurant in my life. Other Turkish restaurants are always much more respectful and have better quality food. I will not be returning and do not recommend you visit this restaurant, there are many better places to go out for dinner in York where you feel more valued and have a much better experience.

Was looking for a place to eat and the frontage to this restaurant immediately piqued my interest, it was fun looking and the menu displayed looked good. We were not disappointed, the service was great, food was excellent and the atmosphere was lovely too. Would recommend and will visit again when in York.

We had a delicious meal at Yakamoz. It was a very busy Saturday shopping day outside, and we spontaneously walked in, but they fitted us in and we were served and fed very efficiently. We both ordered the vegetarian Imam Biyaldi, which was delicious - rich, deep aubergine flavours and great bulgar and wild rice sides. Very Friendly staff. Recommend!

Chose this place at random for lunch and delighted that we did! The service was friendly and informative, happy to discuss the dishes and make recommendations. We ordered a pide (like a long pizza made with feta and mozzarella - delicious!) and three mezze dishes which were all excellent - the satsuka was superb. You should try this place!

I am a fan of Turkish cuisine and I have tasted it in many countries, however the experience in Yakamoz was beyond any word, the food was 100 out of 10, all the meat even the chicken was prepared perfect, and was not dry at all. Simply even the rise was cooked perfectly. The stuff offered us the tea as a compliment for free. Very helpful and lovely personnel. Hardly recommend.

Absolute Stunning good food, high Quality meat and a Super service. You feel welcome in The first second you come in, i would recommend it to everyone who is in york or nearby to go inside and Order Food here !
