Booked for a party of 16 for a Saturday night, absolutely hassle free. When I had a query for the restaurant I received prompt and helpful email replies and was very happy with the customer service I received. On the night we were seated in an area away from the other diners which was rather nice, seeing as we were a fairly large party. The service was prompt yet relaxed — at no point did we feel as though the staff were trying to rush us through our meal. Considering the number of our party, food and drinks all arrived promptly and were of excellent quality. I have used Yak & Yeti several times in the past and would always recommended their butter chicken. The food portions are very generous and all have a rich flavour. Some of the spicier dishes with a little bit of a kick have a nice warming flavour. My friends and I ordered a selection for of main dishes to make sure we had multiple options to try. We all left with clean plates that night! Everything was delicious and wonderful to eat. The staff were amazing and very attentive — they regularly checked up on us and the manager came to speak with us a couple of times to make sure that everything was okay and that we were having a good time. When we settled the bill the staff were very patient with us, as our party wanted to pay separately and they showed us an itemised bill which enabled us to work out what we should pay with ease. Overall we had a very enjoyable night at Yak & Yeti Colchester. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a decent curry with a slight difference due to the Nepalese influence in some of the flavours. Whether a small group or a large party, I have found Yak & Yeti to always be excellent and would definitely return over and over again.

Got a takeaway from Yak & Yeti. The owner/manager was very welcoming so that was a good start. We ordered a lamb biriyani which was nice. It was slightly too hot for me but that's just personal taste. There was plenty of lamb in the biriyani and the meat was soft and tender. We also ordered some starters which were nice too.

Extensive menu with Indian and Nepalese favourites. All the dishes were nicely presented, generous, and very tasty. The traditional lamb was excellent. Friendly attentive service. Thanks for the vote if you found this review helpful.

Collected food, included starters, mains, rice and naan. Flavours are so different to most indian restaurants. Loads of meat and fish in the mains. V hot and really fresh. Can not be beaten.

This place was my new favourite place for while , until one time I found the most vile and disgusting looking hair in my curry it has , put me off the place for good , such a shame , but i gag when thinking of it

Worst food. All vegetable curries tastes same as they use same curry mix in everything. For momos and onion bhaji they just get the frozen one deep fried and serve, its not freshly made, No courtesy of providing steam towel for handle clean. No mouth freshner at the end, no smile on tahe face of staff member. Complete waste of money.

Spot on. 10 people on a great night out. Excellent food and service. Arguably the best curry experience in Colchester. We had a wide range of dishes and everything was really good.

Best curry in Essex! I absolutely love this restaurant... The flavours are so authentic and original. I have never found a bad dish on their menu! What I love is that they have vegan options for my wife, and are also super careful around her nut allergy. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Always great service from Sunan and the team!

The ‘YAK AND YETI’ is a restaurant situated in the heart of a Colchester town. Magnificient interior design. The menu offers a wide variety of mouthwatering starters.All the products were fresh.The chefs take great care in selecting the best quality ingredients. Kadhai Paneer was delicious and tasty. You can taste the spices and chilly. Tandoori Roti was so tender. Staff so polite and friendly. Despite the waiting, service is fast.

First time eating here but won't be the last. Food was very flavoursome and portions were generous. Staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely be back!

This is my second visit to Yak & Yeti and the food remains of excellent standard. The nearby parking space provides an easy access to the restaurant and the customer service is also very good.

Another trip to Colchester and decided to go back there with my family . Things has changed but in positive ways. Service was excellent and food was even better than before . Nice and ambient environment . Will be certainly back . Highly recommended .

Guys, we are long-term customers and although it’s been a while, tonight’s takeaway was absolutely superb. The Goan Fish Curry in particular, was spectacular. Many thanks, as always.

I've had several different dishes from here in the restaurant, and as a takeaway. Always super delicious, well-cooked and generous portions. Lovely, helpful staff as always, too. The momos (dumplings) are my favourite, closely followed by the butter chicken.

We really enjoyed our meal! The tikka masala, coconut rice was amazing along with peshwari naan bread! Saag Aloo was so good, the potatoes tasted so creamy! Will definitely be ordering from here again!

WE haven't used this restaurant before. Inside its fairly modern and warm. Staff are very good and pleased to help. The food is absolutely amazing and they do a range of vegetarian and vegan for those so inclined. We will be back.

We have visited and reviewed the Yak and Yeti for a la carte meals a number of times, and have always loved it.They have recently started advertising a Sunday buffet so we thought we had to try it. The poster on the door says a "huge selection". That is a downright falsehood. Today, the dishes to select from were:Onion bhajiMushroomsChicken nuggetsBoiled riceNaan piecesLamb dishChicken dishVeg "something"Bombay potatoDahlIt was disappointing to say the least, and we will only return for a la carte. Not worth the money.

Usually come here once a month or so with about 5/6 people. Normally really good, but this time has really put us off.We didn't ask for poppodums, but they were brought out so presumed they were free like other curry houses. And they put beers on the table and billwhich we didn't ask for. Food wasn't as good as normal either.This time there was 8 of us, normally we use meerkat meals which we knew allowed 6, and I double checked on the phone if we could just pay full price for two which was ok. But upon getting the bill and saying I had meerkat meals they said we couldn't use it at all.To top it off they put the service charge on top which we only saw after paying.So overall a really poor visit and it's a shame but we won't be coming back or getting takeaway from here again.

We've only had take away service from this place & it has always been excellent.However, they have recently gone from a 5 to a 4 on their Hygiene Rating & until this is back up to 5, we will not ordering or eating from here.

Came here to grab a bite to eat with a friend. Mainly because of the vegan and vegetarian options on offer. Starters were good, we had onion bajhi and fried asparagus which both had a really nice sauce to accompany them. Mains were good, hot food, nice and tasty. Only downside is the staff seem to ignore us most of the evening and it was difficult to get their attention. I also noticed other tables getting frustrated with waiting for service. When we got the bill I was amazed at a service charge included of £4.50 !! For what? I am more than happy to tip for great service and often do.I asked them to remove the service and told them why and got a flat 'okay'.This somewhat dampened what was a good evening with very nice food.

We were the only ones in there bit that didnt put us off. The staff were very polite and attentive. The king prawns and nann bread are lovely and fresh, would definitely recommend. The green walls are very bright but it add to the character of the place. Have been there a few times now and never had a bad meal, will definitely be going back very soon.

This restaurant was superb in both customer service and in the food. Definitely try the chilli chicken if you’re here and would recommend coming with families.

My Dad had been few times to restaurant and had wanted to take me and the family there. All the curries were disappointment, four each ordered some thing different, but three were basically same sauce with different items added. Fish dish was like plastic, lamb was boild separate and had no flavour, another dish bitter like coriander stems.

We visited here for dinner as a family celebration (triple birthday) and were all very disappointed. This was a shame as we'd heard great things and had 2 excellent take away meals from here recently.

Best Indian in town by far and best we’ve ever had Food from poppadoms to mains dips Naans every thing is the finest and fresh great tasting food at every visit infact every time we go it just seems to get better and better which is hard to do when your so pleased with the food in the first place. I have eaten hear twice now and enjoyed the food however on both occasions I was left feeling very thirsty. It was very strange.... I won’t be eating hear again.

Lots of fresh ingredients which gave the best meal ever. Such a choice which added to the problem of what to eat.

We used to eat at the restaurant regularly and were big fans. Not sure what has happened but the food just isnt as good as it used to be. The last three occasions we have ordered takeaway have been successfully worse. We can only assume that kitchen staff or chef has been replaced? A real shame as we really used to rate it.

Have been to the restaurant three times for sir siren meals with my wife and just tonight picked her up a take away as she was ill and needed comfort food.

Selection of different food at the one restaurant! Curries, fusion, steaks all cooked to your liking. Service slow and sometimes difficult getting staff to understand what you would like if too many changes!

We visited recently and found the service and food to be very good.

My son knows the restaurant as the "Mushroom rice" restaurant, since that's his favourite dish and I usually take my family to the restaurant on a Sunday when it's not so busy. The Nepali dumplings and Lamb shish are very tasty, although I often end up with chicken vindaloo

Food has been amazing and very very flavoursome 95% of the time that my girlfriend and I have ordered Take Away from Yak and Yeti. Just make sure you order when the head chef is on as the last two times we have ordered (including tonight) he wasn’t and the food (a) was cold on arival, (b) delivered order was incorrect and (c) portions were very poor value for money given the price - i.e. much smaller than usual. Aside from my gripes above I would highly recommend eating and getting take away from Yak and Yeti Colchester. Again just make sure head chef is working if you get take away

This is a mixed review for me. The food was delicious, my goan fish curry was honestly the best curry I've had, the fish was so soft and yummy

Both mine and my partners meal weren’t very nice but what was particularly bad about the experience was the service. When I approached the waiter about the food he did nothing to try and help sort the situation. They didn’t apologise, they didn’t offer another dish and they didn’t offer a discount. They basically did not try and find a solution and made me feel incredible uncomfortable during the whole experience. I really won’t be going back.

We visited last weekend for a family meal. The inside is a little shoddy, and could do with a revamp and some new furniture. Its slightly lacking in atmosphere unfortunately, and we had to sit and listen to 4 loud, obnoxious blokes with terrible language the whole of our meal. Not one member of staff said anything, and there were families in there! Starters were lovely, and very well presented, the mains were nice, but lacked any presentation skills, and they were extremely tight on meat! All three mains had only 5 pieces of meat in each! The service was friendly enough, but lacking in any real customer service skills. we had 5 different servers, and it was all a bit haphazard. They were trying to bring the next course out before clearing the last away, then they had to run off and get cutlery. A couple of drinks were missed, and a rice from the mains. The food was nice, but lacked any real Indian flavour, and would suit someone who only likes mild curries/dishes. The desserts were basic but nice, and the cobra beer was lovely. I was, however, shocked to see we'd been charged £1 per poppadom on the bill which is, in my opinion, extortionate considering we spent £95! Overall it was average and we wouldn't visit again.

Haven't ordered a takeaway for some years. Neither of us thought much of the Mo-Mo starters which were cloying and rubbery (Gyoza from the fresh sushi counter at Sainsbury's far better) but that may in part have been down to the 30 minute delivery delay down to heavy traffic (a cycle would be quicker!). Rest of the meal was very tasty and very good value. Lots of different flavours in the mixed grill, lovely saffron pilau rice, and the Hariyali chicken also very good. Naans were cold after the delay which was a shame. So overall, impressed and will definitely order again.

Starters were excellent, curries had intense flavour , have a naan for yourself to mop the sauce , we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal

I ordered my food at 7:43 and the food arrives past 10. I was happy to wait the hour and half they told me but the extra time it took over what they said is a joke considering the naan bread was freezing cold, onion bahjis cold. Everything else pretty much luke warm. If you're waiting that long for food you'd expect it to come piping hot. So didn't eat it, told them I wanted the money back so they came and collected. Past 10:00 pregnant and haven't had dinner now. Appalled. Be careful when they say small bottle of coke too I expected a small bottle to share for 2.50 not a tiny glass bottle for one.

We went as a party of 6 on a Saturday night and had booked but was surprised that they were not full. We were seated quickly and then waited a short while for pour drinks order to come. We ordered and had starters and mains - Forgot the poppadoms - My starter was a Piro Piro Jhinga and was absolutely delicious but a big portion for a starter. Then I have Chicken Chettinad and that was also very nice and large. Too large for me to finish it all so one of my friends had a large doggy bag when we left. The sides and bread were excellent. Everyone liked the food and one said it was the best Indian meal he had ever had. The service was a little patchy at times but I was fine with that just a comment my wife made. I felt it was fine. Highly recommended

booked on sunday for an alternative to a sunday dinner for my husband birhtday and having lived in Birmingham for many years we were slightly apprehensive that it would live up to our previous curry experiences and we were correct in one way it was far superior this is fine dining Indian cuisine and i can not recommend highly enough sam the owner was attentive informative and lovely company and his service was faultless it was extremely good value for money and will be returning again very soon as i am already craving their specialty spices

Visited on a very quiet Monday evening whilst back working for a few days in my old hometown and really glad I did - lovely poppadoms and fantastic condiments which were so different to the usual standard mango chutney and lime pickle we have all become accustomed to. For the main course I went for the Jhaneko lamb and Sag Aloo along with a couple of glasses of Merlot - amazing food along with friendly, discrete service helped to make the evening exceptional in every respect.

Went in on a quiet Monday night. Waiter was knowledgable about the various dishes. It’s true what other reviewers have said, it’s not the most attractive from the outside but once inside it’s more than fine. I chose a spicy chicken curry that I’d not seen anywhere else before. It was lovely, loads of flavour and just the right amount of heat. The naan bread was also cooked perfectly, soft and fluffy. Reasonably priced and cobra beer on tap, what more do I need! Would definitely go back to try other dishes. They have some of the traditional dishes but several new dishes that I’ll need to try in the future.

What a find this is. Do not let the outside branding put you off. The food is absolutely delicious. Poppadoms not greasy, interesting choices of condiments, rice cooked to perfection, awesome curries, crispy nan. And literally the best sag aloo I have ever had in the thousands of curries I have enjoyed to varying degrees over the years. Service is understated and lovely. Highly recommended. Don't let this one disappear from your town!

Don't let the look of this restraunt stop you from coming in. The slightly grubby garish decor may be the norm in Nepal for all I know, but it's not in the south of England.

Great tasting food, wonderful, attentive service and clean, spacious toilets. Very roomy. The meat was very tender and the pickles and pompadoms were delicious.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to Yak & Yeti, where I was very well looked after. The manager Sam went out of his way to recommend dishes and also give an insight to the history or dishes and their origins!

After looking for a vegan take away option online we cane across yak and yeti and remembered seeing a Facebook post about their new vegan menu.

Our culinary experiences have been on the increase; it's great discovering new places. We've been past Yak & Yeti before So, when our girlie was here after her uni exams had finished, as she's vegan, she asked if we could come here.

Soon as i walked into the restaurant it was very well presented. The food was excellent and the service was very efficient. I would definitely recommend anyone to visit the yak and yeti in Colchester, you won't be disapoointed.

Really enjoying our meal. We came here courtesy of Groupon, 80 mile round trip from Southend-on-Sea and worth it. Poppadoms with 4 delicious sauces, mango, carrot, mint and tamarind helped speed up the time waiting for the Nepalese momo pancakes starters to be freshly prepared. My friend had chicken, I had the spiced one. Main course, portions are big! My friend had biryani with lamb, and naan with almond and coconut as a side. I had chicken cooked in garlic, ginger and coconut with steamed rice. We really enjoyed it. There's a branch at Leigh-on-Sea so we'll try that too as nearer home. Our first introduction to Nepalese food. Delicious!

Myself and my wife being a Nepali, we visited Yak and Yati on our special day but it was a great disapointment for Nepalese cuisine with the food being below the grading level. The food had no taste of Nepalese cuisine, specially momo( nepalese dumpling) was lacking each and every flavour with thick pastry and under-cooked. We will never visit again.

We visited as a group of 5 for my husband's birthday. Arriving at 7pm on the Saturday of a bank holiday weekend, I was surprised how quiet the restaurant was (only a couple of other tables besides us, and this didn't change all evening).

My daughter, my grandson ( aged 7 ) and I had dinner at Yak & Yeti this evening. The food was amazing and plentiful, the waiter was courteous professional & hard working. Would definitely visit again.

After spending time in Nepal in January we wanted to find somewhere that we could experience the food again. The Yak and Yeti gave us that experience again, excellent food and service.

Went for Sunday lunch as a couple. Having visited India and Nepal earlier this year we have been apprehensive about going out to eat Indian or Nepalese food since returning, however, I'm so pleased we decided to go for it and chose this restaurant. The food was as we had had in Nepal and was lovely. All the food we had was full of flavour and cooked to perfection. The waiter was very attentive and I would recommend as very good value as well. We will definitely be returning.

Loved the food and the amount of choices. We started with drinks and the papadum tray. Being mainly Nepalese cuisine, the accompaniments were a bit different to the Indian version and I couldn't work them all out but they were good all the same.I chose as a starter piro piro jhinga prawns which were in a medium hot sauce served on a chapati - delicious. The presentation was excellent with little swirls of extra dip decorating the plate- my husband thought it was the pattern on the plate! And for main -Gurkhali chicken curry.This was aromatic and full of flavour, again i would say medium heat. This was listed as containing Nepalese spices so when I enquired what these would be, our server had to check with the chef. I'm still not sure how they differ from Indian spices as I've used the same ingredients at home for "curry" but we laughed about "secret" ingredients which couldn't be revealed! Others in my group chose the lamb samosa, chicken biryani and chicken jalfrezy. The verdict on the jalfrezy was that it was hot but they do rate it with 2 chillies. So be warned if you don't like it too hot. Portions were a good size and a fair bit of rice went uneaten as we had also had naan bread as a side. Overall we had an enjoyable meal, service was good but we were there early evening and it is a big restaurant so might get very busy later in the night. Staff were friendly and everything looked clean. I plan to return to sample something different next time.

I really was disappointed when I found out the Indian restaurant that was there before was going.

As a family of vegetarians and a vegan we decided to eat out and I knew the Yak and Yeti had a vegetarian and vegan menu.

We had not noticed this restaurant (it is in a fairly non-descript part of town) until we got a voucher and decided to use it for a family get together - there were seven of us and the voucher was only for four but the restaurant was very easy about splitting the costs between voucher/non-voucher to accommodate us. From the outside the Yak and Yeti is not particularly appealing but the inside is spacious and well decorated. The seats even have castors which makes seating easy. We were seated at the round table near the front and had a large Lazy Susan which made everything very convenient (for both staff serving and guests). We ordered several different dishes and Naan baskets which we all shared by rotating the Lazy Susan. All food was delicious and tasty, couldn't fault it. I had a Cobra beer. Service was great, attentive and efficient. All of us enjoyed our meal and will certainly return.

We drive past this restaurant every day, and its location has been a bit off putting, but as it's on Tastecard we decided to give it a go on a Sunday evening. \well, are we glad we did!

An excellent family meal on a Friday night. The effort taken in presentation of the food was exceptional, and the flavours amazing Both children tried eveything and my 9 year old son rated his Byriani as 11/10. Not a scrap left. Just a shame that we are not local.
