Yadgar Cafe in Manchester

Great tasting curry with lots of selection if you get there early. Great fit a quick take away.

It filled me up and tasted nice enough, but the place was dirty and I had a big chunk of ceramic in my curry. Also the owner nearly short-changed me by £1 (though this could have been an honest mistake). Dead atmosphere but at least you could hear the karaoke from the Millstone pub two doors down 😂

No frills good value curry. It doesn't look like much from the outside and doesn't try to do anything with the food presentation, but the food was delicious. Chef was friendly enough and explained what he had and the options like the rice and 3. He was also at pains to explain that it's all small batch pot cooking, unlike the large gravy batches they commercial restaurants do, so in theory better depth of flavour. The chicken curry was almost Madras strength so that meant I didn't have much palette left to appreciate the nuances of the other flavours, but it was all tasty and I'd happily do back again. £7.90 for rice and 3 curries; cash only.

Curries are tasty, very spicy and portions are decent however the owner is just so incredibly rude! I've been eating here, off and on over the years, overlooking his brusqueness as I particularly like the aubergine curry but my recent experience has put me off ever returning. The owner seems to despise anyone who walks into his very shabby, rundown cafe! His attitude to customers is peculiar. I overheard him having a go at a woman because she informed him that she was vegetarian. He snapped, "you don't have to tell me what you are, just choose the vegetarian curry!" I don't understand his attitude problem. Could explain why this place is often empty. This and That on Soap street is a far more pleasant eating experience.

Lovely food very good service very friendly and good prices but make sure to take your cash

The food was good. Yes, it doesn’t look very appealing but the portion was fair and curries were tasty for the price we paid. Obviously the owner doesn’t care about any improvements or presentation. But it was a great contrast to hipster places in the area 😆 It’s not a meal to come back for, but it was still good, a bit spicy though. They also don’t accept cards, cash only

I have not been here for at least 18 years. I was a regular eating in and take out. Last take out I had I bit into a cockroach. I have no idea if the cleanliness is any better but I would never go back.

rice was full of water, small portions and veggie options sooo dead. dhal had no flavour and neither did the chickpeas lol. i’d recommend “this and that” around the corner.

Very rude service. Underlying comments when I asked if food was spicy for my 4 year old. The owner responded very rudely saying all good food have spice. He then made a loud comment to feed my child McDonald’s only….. i will never recommend anyone to visit. Also, the place was dirty and no one in it.

The potato and cauliflower is just as good now as it was 20-ish years ago when I first tasted it, great value too

Last time I was there was over 10 years ago and the owner still remembered who I was. Don't go there for decor or flair or an extensive menu but it's so worth going in. The food tastes homemade and is wonderfully spicy and full of flavour. They still do rice and 3 curries with about 5 to 6 curry selections to choose from including boneless tender lamb and chicken. Lots of veggie options as well. I used to be a regular years ago, that's how good it was and still is. Very much worth a visit for the food if you work in town or even visiting.

I don't know why the place looks so rundown and unkept, sadly, the food is just as lacking in the presentation department. For a full in depth review, please see the points below: Food - I came here because they sell halal food and my colleagues wanted to try this place. All the food is prepared in advance and sits in metal vats, ready to be served (like lunch time in school or hotel breakfast). The food doesn't look very appealing to be honest, although the taste was alright. It was a little bit spicy, but I don't mind that, because I like spicy food. They have vegetarian and halal options for food here. Unlike the other reviews, neither me nor my colleagues got any food poisoning. So maybe the other reviewers were just unlucky? Customer Service - The customer service he is very basic. The guy serving explains some of the dishes and just does his job. That's it. Nothing exceptional or of note. Price - The price for food here is good. It's good in the sense that it matches the quality of the store and the food. So in essence, you get what you pay for. Presentation / Atmosphere - The place looks really dead, inside and out. I don't understand why the owner has neglected the presentation of this restaurant / cafe because if it wasn't for my colleagues, I wouldn't have considered eating here. Summary - Overall, Yadgar has a lot of potential, and room for improvement, but it's current state leaves much to be desired. The food was alright, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here again.

Love it here. Has the edge over the other rice and three places around in my opinion. The most comforting plate of food you could wish to eat.

Curry tasted beautiful. Sadly my boyfriend had food poisoning from eating here I was lucky to get away with it he was really unwell.

Rice and vegetarian three: spinach/potato, daal, aubergine. Also fried cod. Was excellent as always, highly recommended.

There are many rice and threes about the northern quarter but some of the more well known ones such as this and that make bland boring veggie dishes. Yadgar smashes it out the park every time. If you like curry you need to go here!

I have been a resident of the Northern Quarter for almost 19 years and have visited most of the local rice 'n' three curry establishments which have come and gone over the years. In my humble opinion Yadgar serves by far the tastiest curries and is the only one I still go to regularly. All the curries available are most flavoursome; my current favourites are the chicken and the aubergine, both of which are sensational.

Best food I’ve had all year ! Lamb Nahari is great! Can’t recommend it enough , it’s not fancy decor but just enjoy the food

Tasty curry but I would not recommend eating there for dinner. I had rice and 3 veggie curries. There was only a little left of everything and thinking about it now it seemed that it had probably been sitting in the metal vats since lunchtime service. I'm currently sick in bed with food poisoning after vomiting it up all night. I do not have a particularly sensitive stomach, I've eaten at Kabana / Little Alladin/ This and That with zero problems. Do not recommend.

Probably the tastiest plate of food I have eaten in a long, long time. Went here on the recommendation of a colleague, and I'm glad I did. Definitely no frills on the presentation or decor, but don't let that put you off. Best daal I've had anywhere, ever. And the meat and other veg were all good too.

The place doesn't look appealing from in or out but food is good and consistent. However as per previous review the place has lost its buzz and this was going back a bit longer than the COVID era. All in all still one of my favourites in the northern quarter. Bring back your fresh chilli's and aloo paratha

Splendid quick lunch. We had the offer of rice and a choice of 3 curries, very tasty.

Good flavours, but portion sizes were a bit stingy. We asked a few simple questions about what the options were, and the person 'serving' us was extremely rude and insulting. Worst customer service I've ever recieved. The cafe was completely dead and I can see why. Will never go back.

Delicious veggie rice and three and Bhaji

Real home cooking fresh and authentic like you would have at an Asian wedding cooked in huge vats so properly marinates. The rice and 3 curries is served immediately piping hot and delicious. I have been going nearly 30 years and recommend the chicken with fried rice. In my opinion beats the whole of Rusholme hands down.

Been coming on and off of or 10+ years. I heard yadgars had struggled in lockdown. Hadn't visited for a while so went for lunch on Friday. It's still great. straightforward - 3 and rice. 3 veg £6 if you want meat a little more. Very tasty. Shall now make it a regular.

Great “home cooked” style curries and related dishes. Yadgar offers a more down to Earth, no frills experience at a very reasonable price. Ideally located in the Northern Quarter and no need to book.

Went in for the first time the other day. Served by a very miserable man behind the counter. Ask him a question politely and he turns volatile. Portion sizes are small for what you pay for. He even counted the small pieces of meat, size of a sugar cube. Place needs a make over. The place doesn't look clean. I can't recommend this place.

I visited Manchester for a business trip and I went the yadgar cafe for my dinner, the food, service, atmosphere everything was excellent and looking forward to visit again.

Probably the most authentic, delicious, good value meal you can eat in Manchester. We’ve been coming here for years. The spicing is deep, rich and balanced; it’s proper no frills home-cooking for genuine foodies.

I have been many times to Yadgar cafe . Authentic pakistani food. Value for money. Excellent taste . Hygienic . You can see and choose items . Fresh bread is prepared. Love it. Will visit soon after pandemic. I disagree with biased comments that it's a pizza shop . It's an authentic Pakistani food and if you have other motives to give bad and misleading review its not fair with hard working business owners. I highly recommend to go and see how many loyal customers going from many years.

Food 10/10 rice and three Currys about 4 meat curry and 4 veg curry different daily but always got lamb and chicken curry and lots veg curry and you can not go wrong with rice and 3 curry for a £5.50 thanks yadgar

Otro gran lugar para almorzar. Un poco áspero en los bordes, pero ese es el barrio norte de la vieja escuela para ti y me encanta. Siempre una buena selección para un arroz tradicional y tres curry, los panes son deliciosos, si no los mejores. Una visita obligada, no decepciona.

Rice and three is great and good value for money

I had read about the rice and three curries cafe and we wanted one that stayed open a bit later than four o’clock. Yadgar fitted our requirements as it shuts at 6.45. The nice chef kindly described the available curries. I chose the chick pea, lamb and potato and spinach. The portions were generous especially the lamb which came in big chunks. My husband enjoyed his chicken, potato and spinach, potato and cauliflower. A great bargain at £5.50 a plate. We will return

Servicio rápido también.Una gama razonable de artículos disponibles, ciertamente suficientes permutaciones en combinación para satisfacer a la mayoría de los paladares.La comida vegetariana que consiste en arroz y una selección de tres opciones de vegetales fue una comida sabrosa y decente. Las raciones servidas también eran generosas.Una verdadera ganga por menos de 5.Las opciones que contienen carne cuestan un poco más, pero siguen siendo un valor excelente.El café no estaba ocupado a la hora de cenar, pero tenía un flujo constante de clientes, todos los cuales parecían disfrutar de sus respectivas comidas. Aparecimos aquí durante una noche con amigos, tuve el 3 arroz al curry con un chaoti, fue muy agradable y se nota que todo está recién hecho.Para mirar el lugar afuera tbh probablemente hubiera pasado parece un poco descuidado, fue un amigo que nos lo recomendó y estoy muy contento de haber entrado definitivamente volveré, pero tal vez un poco antes, así que hay más opciones

La comida está en otro nivel, el menú es prácticamente chapati samosas y cebolla bhajis y hervidos y fritos. arroz y tres currys con alrededor de 8 curry diferentes por día y las comidas diarias del pollo de cordero Dahl de garbanzo keema. Y alrededor de 4 especiales más diarios son 5. 50 por un arroz 3 currys y creo que son alrededor de 7 por arroz y 4 currys los chapatis bhajis y samosas son 60 p u 80 p cada uno cuando estoy en Manchester no comeré en ningún otro lado y he estado yendo por 25 años y he probado todos los otros cafés de curry en el Northern Quarter y la comida es la mejor aquí

As previous reviewers have commented the premises could seriously do with a makeover. But, my review is about the food.. rice + 3 curry for £4.99 - what’s not to like? The food has been consistently excellent for many years. Worth a visit.

This is the worst I have ever been treated by a public place. I am disgusted. I walked in and I was looked at, then ignored. I waited until someone reluctantly came to serve me. When I asked for something on the menu, I was told that they don't have it, which is fair enough. Then asked for about 3 more things and again, was met with the same response. They finally told me what I COULD have, only after I asked “What can I get then?”. My friend then decided that she didn't want anything. While we were walking away, he muttered under his breath, “thanks for wasting my time” Terrible. Honestly, it’s like they don’t want to sell their food. Just to be clear, their decor and hygiene (from what was apparent) was reflective of their customer service. Bad. Update: I have never returned here, and don’t plan to.

You might have walked past Yadgar Cafe one hundred times before, take my advice stop next time. The cafe it’s self could do with a face lift, it’s clean but needs a revamp. The food you can’t fault rice and three curry’s for £5 or £4.50 for vegetable curry’s. I’ve never had a bad meal in fact i can’t remember the last I haven’t gone back for a second helping.

As with most of curry cafes in the area, it puts out hearty food at a reasonable price. Interior is very basic but don't let that put you off. There are better options in the vicinity though.

Fantastic value for money- don't bother with most of the menu, you'll want the rice and 3 curries. A good selection of both meat and veg curries. Lost one star as they stated they did desserts on the menu but didn't have any.
