Walnut Persian Restaurant in Manchester

We live in Cheshire and almost every time we visit Manchester we get enough food from this place to feed us for 2 days!! Mainly because we want to try lots of things and the portions are large but also because it’s all amazing! A touch on the pricey side and parking is a nightmare but well worth it. Will continue our ritual just wish it was closer to home!

I travelled from London to Manchester and found this Persian restaurant on Google Maps. The traffic was horrible, and parking was nearby but full — very stressful to reach. But once inside, I was so happy! The Sabzi, Gerdoo, Panir with hot fresh bread was incredible, and the Koobideh was honestly better than many famous Iranian spots in London. Fair prices and amazing taste. The area isn’t luxury or calm, but the food is totally worth it. Highly recommended!

This is one of the finest Persian foods I have tried in the UK.

The food is 10/10 - Had the lamp heart and liver as starter and the main was the Fesenjoon which was absolutely exquisite and the absolute cherry on top is the Saforran ice cream. Best Persian restaurant in Manchester if not the whole northwest. Mondana, the hostes was so attending and gracious as an extent hostess can be.. I'll be back next time I'm in Manchester.

Wow what an experience! The food was incredible, the atmosphere was pleasant and the staff were extremely attentive and very efficient always offering a smile. Came with my whole family and every single one of them said it was amazing. For some this was their first experience of Persian food and now they’re addicted. You guys deserve way more recognition, cannot fault a single thing.

This place was recommended to me by a friend and it did not disappoint. Food and service were absolutely amazing. The food was very tasty and the kobedah and chicken were very tender and flavourful one of the best restaurants I’ve been to I will definitely be coming back

Not great but really good. You can find delicious kebabs there. Portion sizes are too big for one, even me. I really liked the ice cream with saffron. I have never tried before but finished two cups. I can get there only for this ice cream.

Really disappointed. Booked online for my parents anniversary with the system provided. Called ahead more than once, to confirm and then when they were on their way to the restaurant. I was assured they would be looked after and not to worry. Unfortunately the feedback I got from my parents was that they had to wait for a table, and their special night was not even acknowledged. I’m so upset and disappointed

Ordered vegetarian home takeaway, found a large chunk of meat in the broth when I got home. Felt very disgusted. They need to take things like this more seriously and pay more attention to the customers requests! Very disgusting and disrespectful, what happened.

We has a good tasty meal as good overall experience . The reason for room for improvement on the freshness and seasoning of the fish. The lamb was nicely cooked. the started roasted aubegine was of special authentic surprise. The seating and the atmosphere was warmth and still upholding an urban diner feel. the space was too open in front of the table we sat.

Yeah I mean this place could be good..only the atmosphere. I had very high hopes looking at it from the outside. Unfortunately though, once my tongue touched the awful food I felt like throwing up. The food here is absolutely awful and not a good representation of the setting. If there was lower than 1 star I would put it because I kid you not I was so ready to vomit. I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy to eat food from here. I think I need to sand my tongue down after the atrocious taste of the almost inedible food. Also they ignored me when I called them absolute nob'eds

Our dinner at Walnut Restaurant was an unforgettable celebration of Persian flavours, shared with my wife, my friend, and his wife in a warm and inviting atmosphere. We began our culinary journey with two exceptional starters that set the perfect tone for the meal ahead. To start, we had Ash Reshteh, a hearty and aromatic Persian noodle soup. It was a delightful combination of flavours, with tender minced meat, broad beans, and lentils simmered together in a rich, spiced broth. The addition of chickpeas, onions, and a touch of turmeric brought a lovely warmth, while a swirl of kashk (fermented whey) added a creamy tang that perfectly balanced the savoury depth of the dish. Next, we indulged in the comforting flavours of Kashk-E-Badenjan, a sautéed aubergine dish. The aubergine combined wonderfully with the creamy walnuts and the earthy undertones of garlic. The combination of whey and fresh mint provided a refreshing lift, and we eagerly scooped up every bit with soft, fresh Iranian bread—the ideal accompaniment to such a flavourful dish. For the main courses, we treated ourselves to four distinct and mouthwatering Persian dishes, each one more delicious than the last. First, we had Chelo Kabab Koobideh, a classic Iranian favourite. The marinated minced lamb, grilled to perfection, was juicy and full of smoky flavour. Served with saffroned basmati rice, which was light and fragrant, it was a true celebration of Persian grilling. Every bite was tender, savoury, and perfectly seasoned. Then came the tender and flavourful Joojeh Kabab. These marinated chicken skewers, grilled to perfection, had a deliciously tangy marinade and were complemented by the subtle fragrance of saffron rice. The chicken was juicy, well-seasoned, and offered a lighter contrast to the richness of the lamb kabab. Next, we sampled the exquisite Lamb Shank with Baghali Polo, a dish that combined the richness of the lamb with the delicate flavours of baghali polo. The slow-cooked lamb shank was so tender it practically fell off the bone, having absorbed the aromatic herbs and spices. Served alongside rice infused with dill and broad beans, the dish provided a beautiful balance of savoury and herby notes. The tender lamb paired perfectly with the fragrant, light rice, and the yogurt on the side added a refreshing contrast to the richness of the dish. Then, the fourth dish was Joojeh Kabab once again—this time as a delightful alternative to the lamb. Made from marinated boneless chicken breast or thigh, the chicken was soaked in a mixture of yogurt, lemon, saffron, and other spices. Grilled on skewers, it was tender and aromatic, offering a perfect contrast to the other dishes. We concluded our savoury journey with a pot of Persian tea, brewed strong and served in delicate, handleless glass cups. The tea’s deep amber colour was a sight to behold, and sipping it was the perfect way to end the meal, offering a comforting and aromatic experience. For dessert, we enjoyed Zoolbia & Bamieh, two crispy, syrup-soaked Persian sweets that were simply irresistible. The Zoolbia, shaped into intricate spirals, was light, crisp, and drenched in syrup, while the Bamieh, shaped like small doughnut holes, was equally delightful. Both treats had the perfect balance of sweetness and crunch, making them a wonderful way to conclude our meal. It was truly an exceptional dinner, full of vibrant flavours and textures, with each dish telling its own story of Persian culinary tradition. The combination of savoury meats, fragrant rice, and sweet desserts, all complemented by refreshing tea, left us thoroughly satisfied and eager for more. A memorable evening spent in great company and with even better food. Just make sure to reserve a table at least six hours so you aviod any disappointment also eating at wallnut could be not very cheap and not extremely expensive . Parking is quit challenges, you need to find

Best place to grab Persian food in Manchester.

Revolting quality of food for the extortionate amount you pay. These people have no morals or conscience. Ordered lamb chops, koobideh, and barg , all three were chewy, old, and had a funny odour. Definitely not fresh and not even average. Delivery arrived on time, but the kids didn’t touch it , they just ate the rice and we had to go to McDonald’s afterwards. No doubt they’ll add five fake positive reviews after this, but they seriously need to be held accountable. If this happens again, I won’t hesitate to report them to Trading Standards and take legal action

Low quality rice disappointing. TBH No worth the price.

This was our second visit within 6 months. Really tasty and authentic style food. The staff were very helpful. It was really busy, as always but we managed to get what we needed. Highly recommend this little hidden pearl on the edge of the curry mile. It is price wise a bit on the high end as compared to other regular Kobeda places, but then it has more of a restaurant type feel as opposed to a quick takeaway. The mint tea was very tasty, a nice top off to our meal. The complimentary dessert was not everyone's cup of tea. I found it ok. It was like a semolina pudding but made in water not milk, sprinkled with rose petals and cinnamon. A bit different and as one of my friends suggested a nice palette cleanser.

Can’t recommend this restaurant enough! The food is absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked & so full of flavour. Portion sizes are so good for such reasonable prices. It’s amazing value for the quality you get! The service is top tier too! The Afghan waiter was incredibly sweet & friendly, & the owner was so welcoming & made us feel right at home🤍 Everything about this place is perfect, from the food to the atmosphere. Definitely a must visit!

Delicious Food & Excellent Service! We had dinner at Walnut Restaurant in Manchester for the first time, and it was a fantastic experience! They’re open until 11 PM on weekdays, which is great for a late-night meal. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome right away. Our order arrived in less than 10 minutes—super fast service! I had the Joojeh Torsh for my main course, and it was absolutely delicious. I expected a smaller portion, but they were very generous, which was a pleasant surprise. After dinner, we enjoyed Persian sweets and saffron tea—an absolute must when dining here! The flavors were rich and authentic, the perfect way to end our meal. Overall, the food and service were excellent. I’ll definitely be returning on my next visit! Highly recommend!

We visit many Persian restaurants but this is our favourite. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the food is absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend dining here. Our children love it too. They do wonderful milkshakes and scrumptious kebabs.

I have been going to walnut for years. Since the change of location the food has somehow got even better! Even when the restaurant is busy- which it always is on weekends, the service is great and the staff are so friendly. Persian food is the best (well I am biased) so if you are going to eat it anywhere please please go to walnut!

We’re regulars here and always enjoy the food. The dishes are consistently perfect, but what truly keeps us coming back is the incredible staff especially Mandana-she's a star! They are the friendliest team, always welcoming and never without a smile—even when they're busy or it's late.

Kebab Torsh (Sour Kebab) which is originally of the north of Iran, was splendid and very close in taste to the original version. Kebab barg was tender and lovely. Koubideh had a very pleasant taste The side of marinated olives (Zeytoon parvardeh) was a great match alongside. The traditional yogurt drink flavored with a variety of dried herbs and sumac could take you to Iran in its real sense. Overall, the complete score of 10/10 is a must to be given to Walnut Persian Restaurant. Thanks for their nice food and warm hospitality.
