First time I have been here for some years, and was surprised to see it is now a Dobbies Garden Centre with a Waitrose inside. I confess to liking garden centres more for the home stuff than the garden gear, so I was disappointed as there was not really that much on offer. We contemplated having lunch here but the menu looked poor and there weren't many customers in the café section which was probably telling. Also noticed Ladd's Garden Centre is now shut so that is pretty disappointing.

Called in for lunch today, 1st choice not available (lasagne) 2nd choice not available (scampi & chips) ended up with fish & chips, there were four of us eating, waited nearly an hour from time of ordering, fish was fine but chips were barely warm, not sure I would bother to eat there again, shame because it looks nice and clean, staff were also pleasant.

Called in hoping to have a main meal at lunchtime today to find that three items on the main menu were unavailable, this was before 12 noon, the traditional time for them to start serving lunch. It's not that the menu is that comprehensive & all that was available that one could describe as a 'main meal' was Fish & Chips or Ham, Egg & Chips. Also I thought that £7.25 for a Panini, £2.40 for a Scone & £3.45 for a slice of cake was rather over the top. That's pricier that the National Trust! On checking out the gifts suitable for children I find that none are priced, either on the item itself or the shelving. Couldn't see any staff available to ask the pricing either. Rather a wasted journey.

Went to Dobbies today Oct 12th to see if the garden centre had improved from previous Wyevale which had become rundown and not welcoming. Having to wait in a queue for 20 mins to order 2 coffees at the till we found unacceptable and then a further 6/7 mins for the coffees to be made. Plenty of staff but no organisation. Everyone was ordering coffees but at various times whilst queueing no coffee was being made so service was extremely slow. A great shame as it will be some time before we will give it another try.

Queued for at least 20 minutes, 3 staff in the cafe, it appeared with little or no training. Staff more interested in getting parents to sign for the play area than serving customers. My drink was forgotten, I was asked why I was waiting to which I replied I haven't received my drink yet. When food was delivered bacon was overdone, beans were cold and the toast appeared as we had pretty much finished. Prices gone up for food and play area since it became a Dobbies, been many times and the place has gone down the toilet recently.

On arrival found car park space easier to find which is not the norm and centre very low on customer numbers. Having selected my intended purchases and entering the café I was disappointed with the lack of cake options, very poor compared to previous visits. It was only when paying and presenting my garden club card informed no longer valid, then only did it become obvious of a poorly managed transition from Wyevale to Dobbies, lacking in customer communication, staffing levels,(only one on café counter) Past experiences have only been good, today was a disaster, Dobbies may be the largest garden centre group, but can you be the best ?

Looking around the garden shop there was a section selling cakes and biscuits. The sale sign said (All Easter Confectionary Sale) and the original listed prices were along side the sale price. We took the four cakes listed according to the sign at 50p each, to the counter and before paying clarified to the lady assistant that they were that price. I was told no I would have to pay the full price even when showing her the photo of the counter sign and produce. I showed my disapproval and left the goods behind

Plant hunting today and really enjoyed my trip to Wyevale Hare Hatch. This is a pretty big garden centre, with Bog shed and outbuilding demo area + a very big aquatic store in the same complex. Plenty of choice for outdoor plants + landscaping, and a huge indoor store complete with a large cafe, set at the back of the centre. Can get busy. Good selection of light bites, sandwiches and cakes.

Popped into the garden centre and thought we would have a coffee and a sandwich in the restaurant. We wish we hadn’t bothered. Staff very very disorganised and there were cakes and cooked lunches but no sandwiches. Waited a long time to be served despite there appear to be plenty of staff. Coffee was only half a cup. Scone and butter was really nice though. Tables and floors really grubby. Lots of uncleared tables and a lot of food left on plates which isn’t a good sign. No serviettes available so I asked “do you have any serviettes?” I got a very dorct answer “no”. Also no teaspoons for coffee. It’s a shame it could be great with a bit of proper management.

This is a large open garden centre cafe, so it was a bit chilly, otherwise we liked the atmosphere. We went to buy a Christmas table decoration and get something to eat. Staggered at the prices and the unfriendly ness of most of the staff. I saw just the thing I wanted but was told by a lovely, but embarrassed lad serving that it was display only and wasn’t on sale. I found something else but that too was display only and again not for sale. I then saw a third thing I wanted, but at £30 for a small acrylic tree was too expensive. We left and went to Ladds Garden Centre a few miles up the road and purchased an even better one for a third of the price with happy, friendly staff and properly priced Christmas goods.

This place really needs to get its act together. We went in for breakfast, it was mid morning on a Friday and not exceptionally busy. We waited half-an-hour and there was still no sign of our meal. I gestured to a guy on the counter that we were still waiting. He checked and indicated that it would take two minutes. I decided that another cup of tea was required while waiting. An enquiry to the same guy received a curt response that I had to join the end of a lengthening queue. Any sensible customer facing person would have simply sorted the request quickly and made the drink complementary. We waited another ten minutes and there was no sign of breakfast. At this point we baled out and asked for a refund: which we finally secured. This operation was poorly managed and staffed by a lethargic and uninterested group of young, inexperienced people.

However, the coke was warm, the tea weak and lukewarm and the hot chocolate cold. We then waited, and waited, and waited for the sandwiches to arrive. Quiet a nice cafe area with inside and outside seating. General a r adorable hot and cold cafe food selection. Thought we would try the cream tea though whilst no bad value for money it was a little wanting. Set sandwich fillings which were poor and plain old white bread. Also they did not have any fruit scones left at 3pm only plan. Not good if you can any to entice people in. They need a back up stock just for cream teas and not for show. However 30 minutes later someone was served a fruit scone. . The other cakes were nice as was the tea. Done it once but would not have it again.

The plants at this garden centre are good but expensive. Stock of other products is patchy and many things are not priced. When I asked a member of staff for the price of a broom she said ‘I don’t have a clue’ and wandered away.My 15 month old granddaughter was hungry so we stopped at the cafe for something to eat. Nothing looked particularly appetising but as she was about to riot, it was essential. However as we queued a member of staff who was serving food repeatedly sneezed onto her hands, rubbed them together then carried on serving. We left immediately and had a delicious, clean lunch at The Horse and Groom almost opposite.Oh yes ... Wyevale have the nerve to charge £1.50 for children to use their small, tatty soft play area.

After coming here for many years with children (playing in soft play) and eating in the restaurant/cafe we’ve never had cause to complain. However our visit today wasn’t quite the same. I’m not sure if the staff have had a reboot, a young lad that served us didn’t know what a mug was. I was put of eating by the overpowering smell of sick in the soft play area. My daughter then found a puddle of sick under the slide, this looked like someone had try to clean it up but failed. The floor in the restaurant/cafe was filthy dirty. If staff can’t be bothered with front of house I’d dread to see what’s happening in the kitchen. This was by far the best Wyevale around especially for food but it saddens me to say this visit was awful....

How much can you get wrong on 6 orders, one cheese and onion toastie burnt toast yet unmelted cheese with onion marmalade who on earth thought up onion marmalade in a cheese toast it's like putting jam in it. Yuk. Another order was jacket potato with coleslaw and cheese this came with chunks of cheese straight of the block no attempt to melt it. Fish and chips clearly warmed up not freshly cooked. Another toasted sandwich with burnt toast unmelted cheese with the dreadful onion marmalade. One of the children's meals was dried up chilli so dry it looked like a burger. The ordering process is extremely slow as it has been made unnecessarily convoluted by having a step where you ask for you order then you have to go through the same process 50cm away at the till to tell them what you ordered. The prices are not cheap to say the least. The food took 30 minutes to arrive ( well at least the pizza) then they informed me they had run out of my order. Visited Friday lunch with my wife as she had a 2 for £12 voucher. There was a sign saying you may have to wait for up to 30 mins for food at busy times. The restaurant was less than half full and many of the people there were having coffees whilst their kids were in the soft play centre. We were surprised to wait 35 minutes for two portions of fish and chips and disappointed with the quality when these arrived. The fish was good, however, the chips were cold and hard and the mushy peas a dry congealed mess. See photo. How any chef can send a plate with peas looking like that out of the kitchen defies belief. The food is not cheap (ok for us as we had a voucher) but it is very cafeteria like. The cakes and coffees are very expensive too, watch out as these can really push up the price of your meal.

I always enjoy visiting the Wyevale for it's superb choice of gifts and plants. It has a fantastic pet shop within the store where you are sure to find anything you need. The coffee shop serves delicious food and cakes in a lovely setting either indoors or outside. For the younger kids there is a soft play area to keep them amused. The choice of plants is extensive and the staff very helpful. On leaving there is fresh produce from the greengrocer and his fruit & veg are wonderful

Always go here meet my family, go to the cafe for drinks & cake my only criticism would be they are very slow making the drinks. We then go round the garden centre the outdoor plants are really nice, the indoor plants are good and the variety of other things you can buy are also good

Explored this garden centre on the way by foot to Twyford with its pretty, gardens and interesting name Hare Hatch. There is no mystery behind the name Hare Hatch Road is nearby. LOLNice displays of plants tempted, by the butterfly bushes, but cant bring anything back to Canada.

It was not planned but we thought why not! It was a beautiful sunny day and the kids enjoyed the outdoor play area. The food was delivered after 30 minutes too much time for a quicky. The food was freshly prepared and nicely presented. Kids were starving and ate the lot. We on the other hand had eaten and then ready to go. I wish the food had landed quickly and some more decoration would be appreciated. The clearing of other tables was delayed due to high level of custome.

Decided to have a snack while visiting the garden centre, as the last time we had visited the afternoon tea was great. This time, not so. Additional charge for soft drinks insteada of coffee or tea with afternoon tea. Stale sandwiches too. Overall not as good as I would've expected.

It is a comfortable restaurant/cafe with the usual menu of drinks and cakes and light meals. Friendly staff help to make it enjoyable. The cafe is next to a children's play area which of course means quite a lot of noise at times although there is seating further away into the shop area. A pleasant place.

Every time I go to this cafe in the garden centre I vow not to return!! It would make a fortune if they got it right but the service is ridiculously slow and then when the food does eventually arrive it's so underwhelming! The jacket potato with cheese and beans you hardly get any beans and this is the norm because I have been twice!! Side salad on the plate just dry no dressing and no dressing available on the table where all the packet sauces are!I know it's only a garden centre cafe but they need to get the basic stuff right ! Such a shame as a very popular place!

Don't expect cordon bleu, this is fairly standard cafe fair. The two for one deals (requiring purchases from the garden centre itself) make it a decent price for e.g. Fish and chips.

As a garden centre you get the generic stuff you find in all Wyevale stores. The café is slow and the food is mediocre. This was surprising. It was not good for gluten free either.I would seriously recommend crossing the road and using Sheeplands. You can get the majority of the same garden centre products, the café is better and being an independent you get a better level of service.

Whilst the menu is interesting and provides a good variety of hot and cold dishes, drinks etc; the staff are abysmally slow and not dynamic in the slightest. I have visited twice in March and both times the queue to order and pay was excessively long. In addition, the lacklustre waitress who brought our lunches over didn't even have the thought or care to take empty plates back to the kitchen with her (I had to call her back and ask her to remove the dirty plates from our table). The place in general is nice and they have a greengrocer at the exit which sells very nice produce. Unfortunately the lacklustre, ineffective and frankly lazy staff in the cafe let the whole place down. WHERE is the manager and why doesn't s/he sort the staff training out?!

Arrived for breakfast and badly to see that the restaurant want too busy. Ordered breakfast with hot drinks and was told to wait at end of til counter and drinks would "appear there". 10 minutes later a regular code and tea appeared along with now about 8 other people waiting for their drinks. Hoping that the food wouldn't take to long as only a few options available on the menu, we had to wait another 25mins to be served. After 20 minutes wait I complained to the full staff and commented that we had drunk our drinks we had hoped to have with the food I was. To this I just got a shrug of the shoulders and a comment that the dogs was being prepared. Avoid unless you have plenty of time to wait for very mediocre food.

Visited the garden centre (which is OK) and the café for lunch this weekend. Very poor service - long queue, slow service, no proper coffee, chosen item from menu turned out (after ordering) not to be available, un-cleared tables, tatty décor. Food so-so. We wont visit again.

This place has gone so downhill its underground over the past few months since I complemented the Manager on how good his service was, the whole place has plummeted to uncleared tables over ten minute wait for a cup of coffee and such a shabby service it should be avoided at all costs. Unless a good Manager can installed to turnaround this once good venue for a lunchtime snack the problems will get worse (if possible)

I visited this garden centre café as I was passing by with my daughter and granddaughter, and we were hungry for lunch. We were informed by a sign on the counter that they weren't serving hot food... Wye ale does a two dishes from its specials board for £10 if you have spent enough in the garden centre itself. There is generally a decent selection on the board, and the fish and chips is generally pretty good. This time, I went for bubble and squeak, and my wife for a cottage pie. Service was a bit haphazard (it always seems to be). The bubble and squeak was served with a couple of rashers of bacon and a well cooked fried egg on it. Nit was OK, but the b&s hadn't been fried properly - no crusty bits and definitely no beef fat! My wife's cottage pie was good enough, but she said that the veg were watery and oovercooked. The tables often are left untidiness, or even if tidied are not cleaned well. Overall, adequate, but nothing special.

I was looking forward to catching up with my friend over a quick lunch and she suggested the Wyevale. I had a jacket potato and she had a sandwich. How on earth you can produce a revolting sandwith and jacket potato is beyond me. Her sandwich had fridge cold bacon, rock hard brie, lettuce not spinach as advertised and a weird looking red gloop, she didn't even manage half of it. My potato was obviously cooked hours (if not the day before) and reheated it had that horrible yellow old look and taste, it's stuffing of goats cheese, spinach and bacon had a peculiar slimy taste. I was really hungry so gave it a go but started to feel queasy very early on, and also barely managed half. The salad leaves should have been composted instead of being put on a plate as they had started to go slimy. This was normal lunchtime on a coolish day, there was no excuse for this. We left the Wyevale having returned our food to the serving area and making our complaints. I didn't even get an apology. I am still feeling sick three hours later. We will not be returning and would recommend others to eat elsewhere.

I decided to treat myself to a cream tea whilst visiting the garden centre and what a disappointment. The scone was verging on stale and the clotted cream was dry and fragmented. Came here for afternoon tea, as we had a voucher. First impressions were good, but on closer inspection, the tables could have done with a good clean, even a token wipe would have made a difference - they weren't very clean - not the greatest start. We ordered our drinks and were told to sit down with a table number, it took a long time before a member of staff came over to tell us that they had run out of scones, so offered us an alternative of a toasted teacake and either chips or onion rings (weird choice but the children seemed to be happy with this option!)The scones that we had were a little bit crispy on the outside, but were still very nice. The sandwiches were really nice, lots of egg filling and a good amount of ham, not just a single slice. The best bit though was the delicious lemon meringue slice - very yummy :-)All in all it was a nice afternoon tea.

Went here on a Sunday for a light lunch. When ordering told a 30 minute wait for food which was ok as been before i know they struggle with any sort of number of people. The restaurant was not busy and plenty of tables to choose from (added to the confusion on the wait of food). Food came out hot and fresh but the whole experience was left lacking as so many table still had their number left up way after food had been served and many had plates not cleared for the hour we were there. After this experience not in any hurry to go back.

I would not want to be seen dead in a place like this so I am not sure why I went in alive. Wyevale is expensive for everything so the prices did not surprise me. Wyvale is great for all things to do with the garden and have a busy restaurant offering popular lunches and snacks for customers. Today however was the pits. We ordered and paid at 12:32. First to arrive was the coffee (£1.90/cup) and served at lukewarm temperature. We waited until 13:15 for the fish and chips to arrive and when it did, it all seemed bland. The apple and blueberry crumble never arrived at all. Odd as we have been before and found it to be OK. Colin of Harrow is your man for first class fruit and veg and flowers. Forgotten a birthday? Not a problem, find Colin and he will assign you a florist to make you a bouquet up there and then from a good choice of flowers and foliage and wrapped up in the usual pretty papers and ribbons. Fruit and veg is picked up daily at Convent Garden and brought up to Wyevale Garden Centre. Fresh figs, pomegranates the size of small footballs as well as large and juicy oranges and grapefruits and Pink Lady apples. A good range of soft fruit from Beekers a Dutch company specialising in berries. As for Wyevales flowers and garden products - second to none in size, care and good sections for presents, and a plus is having a Cotton Traders shop on site with discounted footwear and winter boots and clothing. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere and I bought plants which I transported 300 miles up north!!

We have used this garden centre a lot but mostly for the cafe and indoor play area. The food is average for the price (quite high!) though their cakes are generally very good! You often have to go hunting for a menu and the queues to order came be 10minutes plus. My daughter likes the play area but in the last year they've started charging which I think is a bit of a cheek! I think if you've paid to eat their the play area should be free! Fair enough if your not using the cafe ask for the small charge but I begrudge paying £1.50 for my daughter to run around for ten minutes after paying £20 for two sandiwchs and two drinks!

The first issue was the lack of menus so it takes times to find out what is available. The staff were friendly in there and attentive. The coffe and food was tasty although not sure they were value for money. Not sure why garden centres seem to be more expensive than normal cafes. I thought they would like to fill there café as this will bring people in and then the shop itself will generate more revenue.

Popped in to have a quick browse and Saturday cuppa. Despite there being 4 staff behind the counter 2 were engaged in a conversation, 1 was emptying a tray and the other was serving another customer. One of the chatty women advised her younger male colleague to serve her. Nice to be treated with respect. Children's lunch box had no details about it so had to ask, again was a chore to get staff attention. Asked for a cream tea. Was served up hardest scone filled with whipped or squirty cream and jam. Indelible. Outside the wasps jar was full to bursting and there was plenty of wasps queuing up. Didn't go in indoor play area. All in all a disappointing visit.

We often visit when staying with our daughter, usually for lunch. Our last visit was very pleasant with nice cheerful staff. Our food order arrived promptly and it was hot. We enjoyed some retail therapy and on the way out I purchased some excellent fruit and vegetables from the young man who had set up his market near the exit. Considering the location and the chilly wind every time the automatic doors opened the young man would have been justified in being grumpy. He wasn't. He was delightful, new his fruit and veg and I will definitely buy fro him again.

This was my fourth time visiting a Gails bakery. The previous 3 times I had reservations about the bakery but put it down to short staff or a busy period. Today however I have come to the conclusion that Gails is highly overrated. The staff are pretty rude aside from the mediocre and bland food on offer which is overpriced as well. We had the scones and a spinach and feta pastry. The scones were dry, ice cold and flavourless, the spinach and feta pie was bland and greasy. Improvement in flavour, presentation and most importantly taste needs a major overhaul. Happy to pay high prices for high quality products. I will give this place a miss whilst it gets to improving its standards and quality. There are countless of great coffee shops opening up so why not keep up the pace. .
