This was my fourth time visiting a Gails bakery. The previous 3 times I had reservations about the bakery but put it down to short staff or a busy period. Today however I have come to the conclusion that Gails is highly overrated. The staff are pretty rude aside from the mediocre and bland food on offer which is overpriced as well. We had the scones and a spinach and feta pastry. The scones were dry, ice cold and flavourless, the spinach and feta pie was bland and greasy. Improvement in flavour, presentation and most importantly taste needs a major overhaul. Happy to pay high prices for high quality products. I will give this place a miss whilst it gets to improving its standards and quality. There are countless of great coffee shops opening up so why not keep up the pace. .

Popped in for a hot chocolate yesterday as it was a cold day. The only option was a small (the board shows 'SML' or 'LGE' options for other drinks) so I assumed that the small would equate to a regular in any other cafe but no. When it was served to me I was shocked at how tiny it actually was and it cost £4.10! Pretty disgraceful example of profiteering to be honest. They could at least put the drink volumes on the board too so that people can be more informed before purchasing. Lesson learned I guess.

Don’t usually write reviews but have walked out of Gail’s several times now due to the service really being that unfriendly and rude and there being several (cheaper!) alternatives in the town. The coffees are at least 20% more than anywhere else, the tables are always filthy and the staff behave as though they are doing you a favour.

Great selection at the bakery. I had a croissant, which was big and very tasty. Flaky on the outside and squishy on the inside. The coffee was great too. Bonus points for it being in a decent sized mug. I love coffee and go to a lot of artisan coffee shops, but some of them serve a latte in a tiny glass. I like a big coffee. Busy but lots of seating and outdoor seating too.

Usually love Gail's but today's experience wasn't to love. They had no porriage, no bacon and wouldnt take cash. The baked eggs came and were very over done. There was no warning about the scalding plate that my husband accidentally touched and burned his hand. Coffee was BAD, tasting burnt. Unfortunately the service didn't make up for the bad food either...rude, abrupt and unhelpful. Shame to pay over the odds for a below average cafe.

Not as fresh as it used to be. Lately I go for what it looks fresh rather than what I usually like to eat because some products don't look fresh. I had a few bad experiences with dry croissants. Not standard quality in the food that is offered, perhaps victim of its own success (very busy, cannot cope with high demand and maintain quality standards)

Let’s mention good bits first, coffee and food are consistently great, well that goes to brand and their reputation I believe but the same doesn’t reflect with the staff at Wokingham branch. I’ve been going there for years, so are the other branches like Reading, Henley and many in London. I’ve never seen anyone like the manager at Wokingham. Seen a couple of instances shouting/rude behaviour towards her colleagues. I’ve ignored thinking they are isolated situations but looking at the reviews here it doesn’t look like 1 or 2 instances and what’s more disappointing is despite of other customer reviews it doesn’t seem to have changed much. It appears as if she has no interest or someone forced her to work there, no eye contact or smile on the face whatsoever in contrast to other staff on the till who are good. Now I started to think #Coffee or Nero next door are better at least in Wokingham. I hope this changes sooner than later.

With one person taking orders and one making coffee service was good if a little abrupt. The coffee needs an extra shot which gave it some flavour and it was served hot which is a big improvement on my last visit. Sadly the pastry was once again over baked which as this is repeatedly mentioned by reviewers and must equally be obvious to staff when they are serving is really not acceptable. Gails is the most expensive cafe in town but its just not delivering at a level that matches the price. Needs sorting out.

Went in for my daily coffee and pastry, usually I sit in to eat but as I was waiting to be served manager (middle aged blonde lady with glasses) started yelling and mocking her employee who didn’t look older than 20. I was very shocked and taken back at how this lady was talking to her employee in-front of costumers and other employees. I feel like this workplace and it’s manager/s do not treat employees well and, while I love the coffee, food and service - I can’t support this business after seeing how this lady was screaming at her very young employee. Not to mention, I heard screaming coming from the back and i’m guessing it was this manager. I’m very stunned at how this company has let this treatment continue. Until something is done I will not be coming back.

Whilst I appreciate that prices have gone up everywhere I think whoever decided that a single cookie should cost £4 is taking the mick. I know Wokingham is an expensive place (for what reason I don’t know it’s not a special town) but these prices are extortionate even for a wealthy town. I sincerely hope these same prices are not being demanded of poorer neighbourhoods. For this amount of money one would assume that the service provided matched the price. It does not. Unenthusiastic and sarcastic staff, and unclean stained tables and trays leaves much to be desired. The bread for which this bakery is no doubt well known is lacklustre. Please rewrite below I’m regular customer of Gail’s. I love their food. I had a bad experience with a staff member who was extremely rude to me when I was taking our coffee’s and refused to give baby drink saying I haven’t paid for it. According to my memory it was free. I went to cashier again and asked to pay, cashier said it was free. Later I sat down with my food and I was talking about the attitude of the person who served coffees to me. A gentleman overheard who sat next to me with his family. He said he felt like she treated them like they were asking a favour. So I said okay I will complain and realised the person who served us was the Wokingham branch manager. I didn’t want to write this review thinking it is not fair for other staff but had no choice since she is the manager and she would not correct her attitude. I was reading previous reviews now and realised many people have commented about a rude lady. It is shame because I really like Gail’s but it seems like they have let this person carry on her rude behaviour and has not addressed it. Customers are not deserve this.

Gail's soufflé egg sliders are a must-try for any brunch lover. The eggs are cooked to perfection, with a light and fluffy texture, and the cheese is perfectly melted and gooey. The slider buns are also delicious, soft and chewy with a hint of sweetness. Overall, these sliders are a delicious and satisfying meal that is sure to please even the pickiest eaters. Here are some specific things that I liked about the sliders: * The eggs were cooked to perfection. They were light and fluffy, and they had a perfect amount of salt and pepper. * The cheese was melted and gooey, and it added a delicious richness to the sliders. * The slider buns were soft and chewy, and they had a hint of sweetness that complemented the savory flavors of the eggs and cheese. * The sliders were a good size, and they were filling without being too heavy. Overall, I highly recommend Gail's soufflé egg sliders. They are a delicious and satisfying meal that is perfect for brunch, lunch, or a snack.

Long story short, there was a live maggot in my food. Food that I had already eaten a large amount of. It was in an airtight plastic pot, some fermented veggies and grains at the bottom. I am absolutely disgusted and put off of eating out. I haven’t been able to eat all day and my stomach feels very uncomfortable. I will have to see how my stomach feels after a few days as I can’t tell whether it’s due to the food or a Mental thing.I am already quite a germaphobe so this was traumatising to say the least. I can’t believe a cafe like Gail’s is serving infested food. I have eaten at Gail’s in London a few times and have not had this issue. The manager was apologetic, gave me a refund and offered me another food item. This doesn’t change the fact that their food hygiene is terrible. You couldn’t pay me to eat another food item at Gail’s again. Unfortunately, given that I was quite shocked and disgusted at the sight of the maggot I didn’t think to take a picture. I do not recommend eating here at all. I have never experienced maggots in my food anywhere, EVER. They should be checked out by the appropriate food safety authorities.

A bit scruffy/ like most coffee houses these days: tables, seats and floors need cleaning frequently and properly. Food OK, but coffee takes a long time to make yet still manages to be quite unremarkable, and served in cups without handles (you don’t need a handle since the coffee is not hot). Not really any better than most modern coffee-and-cake places, and a bit pricey. To be fair, coffee in Britain has rarely been good, and since the advent of the ubiquitous American-Italian espresso machines it just got worse. I guess I’ve lived too long: I like coffee strong, either black or with cream (preferable to milk) and never, ever, frothy.

The almond croissant was sadly overbaked and dry, which given previous customer reviews noting exactly the same issue is really unacceptable. The average price for a capuccino and almond croissant is around £4.80 to £5.60 at other coffee shops in Wokingham so Gails pricing is well off the mark as is their quality control. Disappointing.

Always visit when in Wokingham, has great coffee and bites to eat. Extremely high quality and tasty food/drink in a very nice re-developed area of town.

Why don’t they take cash. Surely it can’t be for COVID reasons. Is it because cash is old fashioned and not on trend, or is it because it is more convenient for the cafe and the customers inconvenience doesn’t matter.

Quite pricey, high chairs uncomfortable, they refuse to take money (even though it is the legal currency of our country) whilst the majority of other shops, coffee shops and bakeries now all do. Won't be going back. Coffee nice but no better than most other high Street chains. Temperature a little below that preferred by one of our party.

First visit, great food and service. So many delish looking cakes I could decide so asked staff to recommend/surprise me - cinnamon bun was the result and it was fantastic. Will be back.

Bought a walnut and honey loaf this morning. It was the only one and still had the label in it. Took it, and the label to the till and paid £4.20 for it, but having had some for tea this evening, it's clear that that it is not the same as we've had on previous occasions so can only assume that it has been mislabelled?

Wonderful sweet and savoury pastries baked in front of you on the premises. Pleasant environment, and good coffee. Will certainly go again.

Awful past couple of visits, you at least want your hot cross bun…”hot”…don’t you?! Apparently covid has forced them to stop toasting things…😂 Overpriced for awful coffee and rock hard cake…oh and a cold cross bun! Plenty of other coffee shops in Wokingham to recommend. Update - how long does it take for a refund to go back on the card...painful

First time visitor. Felt the whole experience was very frustrating. Very confusing as some of the food on the board you can have made to order, whereas others if it’s not already made up then you can’t have it. The hot chocolates were tiny and...

Visited today. While the bakery products looked great, the cafe cleanliness standards must be improved. Food crumbs and coffee stains not cleaned and cleared away making it very unhygienic. No cutlery, condiments or napkins provided. Coffee served in cups with no saucers so no where...

Had a focaccia, slice of chocolate roll and a mocha today at £15; everything was good, but the price is very high, would expect it in London not in a small town; £5 for a small piece of pastry is overpriced, £3.9 for a very small mocha also overpriced

Generally very good especially the cakes and savouries, but the coffee (americano) is inconsistent, one day intense, smoky, rich the next dishwater weak and insipid. The latter has dominated recently.

The sourdough boule was dry and stale. Disappointing, especially given the price. The hot chocolate was ok. It appears Gail's isn't so much a bakery as just another chain cafe.
