Been drinking in this pub for 40 odd years now and this is the best I've seen it run by Sharon and Julie. Very welcoming pub now. Look forward to my weekend fix of racing and football in there...

Excellent service, amazingly clean toilets

I've have drank in this pub for over 40 years, beer has massively improved, bar staff are extremely nice and helpful. The standard of this pub and cleanliness has improved immensely. They let me stand in my spot without any complaints. Such a great atmosphere 👏

I’ve been a regular of The Chequers Pub for 10 years and since Sharron has taken over, the difference has been noticeable. She has in the short time she has been here made strong bonds with her punters and made the pub feel more welcoming. I’ve also noticed how the pub is much more busier and much cleaner. Sharron has started to bring things into the pub including a weekly bonus ball plus a monthly meat raffle, things that as a pub we aren’t use to. We are also getting monthly entertainment which is great…..Well done to her and her team…!

I enjoy going into The Chequers Pub now it's been taken over by Sharron and her team. She knows how to look after her beers and ales which is obvious when it comes to tasting them. The atmosphere is also very good and there is never any trouble in there anymore and I believe that comes from people having respect for Sharron and her staff. I enjoy my evening pint...!

In the 37 years I’ve been drinking in woodley I have only really been drinking in the Chequers as my preferred choice since 2017. Here’s to hoping Sharon and the new team of staff can become a long term feature.

As a former publican, I know what a well run pub looks like. The Chequers Woodley is certainly a well rum pub. I am a regular in the chequers and find it a friendly community orientated place to drink. I have recently held my wifes wake in the chequers. The manager Sharron and all the staff helped organize everything. They went above and beyond what would normally be expected, and took all pressure off of me. This gave the opportunity to my family and myself, to grieve without worrying about any logistics. Thank you Sarron, Julie and all of your wonderful staff.

Come to the chequers pub. Under new management with Sharon and the staff. Very friendly atmosphere with excellent service. New events coming up. The staff and Sharon are very welcoming.

Saturday nights entertainment was right up my street. Staff were happy, and as always very courteous.

Yet again a fantastic night at The Chequers. Amazing singer Albie J was performing last night. Great fun evening with brilliant staff. Great atmosphere.

A real pub- welcoming staff and customers, excellent drinks on offer, made to feel very comfortable. Spotlessly clean, the toilets were well stocked and maintained. Choice of viewing options, or duke box playing, with a sing along going on with customers and staff. The type of local that deserves to be visited by as many as possible, to lap up the atmosphere, have a laugh with friends and relax

Still a great local, Francis and the great team are fantastic :-) The reputation from years ago is not deserved.

Stopped here for a few drinks as in the area with friends, great service and welcome from bar staff, drinks were very reasonably priced, very busy pub with a fantastic atmosphere , will definitely return when in the area

I visited the The Chequers with my family at the weekend fantastic place with a great atmosphere. There was a band playing, so lovely to see the pub buzzing again. I shall certainly be returning.

Called in to play in a pool match ordered a pint then found out I should have been in the Bull and Chequers drank beer and left 2 weeks later a fine for parking in the car park. If this is how they treat there customers I will not be going in there again No wonder the pub was empty

Worst pub in Woodley. No decent beer. Awful. PARKING RIP OFF. No warning to register your vehicle before ordering. Recommend keeping a receipt to avoid a fine. Even just for 1 beer. I got a £100 fine. When I challenged them they said sorry but nothing to they can do. AVOID!!!

Popped in never been in here before although lived in area 15 years all seemed nice customers were friendly,bar staff although stressed were nice and polite.

Don't worry about giving your car reg details as they don't enter it ! or do it wrong! and it ends up costing you big money. If you dare to go here insist on entering your details yourself. Sure its not rocket science but never assume people know what they are doing.

Nice pub, friendly staff. If you arrive by car, it's important you tell the staff your car registration number. If you don't, you will receive a £100.00 car parking charge, reduced to £60.00 if you pay within 14 days. Sadly, there is only a notice on one of the walls, so if you park near the side entrance, you will enter the pub not knowing the rules. Hopefully, they will rectify this as I went back and they cancelled the fine for me. A notice on the bar would also help. A nice pub though.

Went there mid July walked in and straight out again. Did the same yesterday They have not acted in anyway to protect anyone from Covid. No bookings being taken. You can sit where you like stand at the bar. Staff have no masks on. Didnt feel safe in there. Will not return

I would not go near them... Unless you want to pay a parking charge for not necessarily entering “their” property. If you get a parking charge ask them for proof you have entered their premises as their cameras are not even correctly angled. Trying to be very clever, byznessmen 😩 keep getting more 1 stars and be proud of yourself...

Don't let the drab shopfront exterior put you off... I opened the door expecting dingy 1970s working man's club... What I got was a tidy, well lit, friendly pub with plenty of seating. I was only stopping for a soft drink, but they had my favourite Kraken rum on 2-4-1 so ended up having one... Rude not to. Especially as its not found that often. Seats are comfy, staff are lovely and locals don't appear to bite. All in all I'll be coming back should I need to water myself.

I'm new to the area... the 2 barmaids are friendly enough, but stay away if you like a proper friendly place... the owners aren't! I've not felt more unwelcome in any place like this that I've been in, in the 30 years I been frequenting this kinda boozer! Shame as I'd have put a fair amount over the bar too. Wont be back. If I could take the 1 star away I would ... maybe it's me though 😬

Recently refurbished and now providing a decent outdoor area in the shopping precinct. Food rather basic, nothing fancy.

No food available as does not have a chef. Drinks are good clean glasses and bar. Good service. Atmosphere good. Quick pint after shopping

Fantastic back street boozer. Stumbled across this place last week while working in reading from Kent. Was welcomed with open arms by staff and punters, danced with some locals and made new friends. The manager Ben and wife Jenny are delightful people. Am going back this week to sample their brand new vegan and gluten free menu! Definately my new go to when in Reading!

Having visited The chequers I was very disappointed the smell in the pub is vile. The glasses are dirty beer is flat. Landlord is never at the pub to run it. No wonder the staff have a free rein to do as they please including drinking whilst on duty. Such a shame as when refurb was done the pub was run very well by Andy. Since he has left there has been two landlords and various managers no one actually running the pub.

As far as Pubs in Woodley are concerned, it's Hobson's choice. Bull and Chequers, Good Companions, or the Chequers. Of the three, my wife likes the Chequers least. It's ok for a pint with mates but not really the sort of place you want to take the wife! The fact they have Doombar and 6X is a plus though

Great food and attentive friendly staff. Very big portion for Asian like us. Highly recommended for a lunch break here.

Andrew the Land lord is amazing there's always a warm and friendly welcome at this pub totally worth a visit.

When it first opened after the refurbishment was OK the food could of been better rather than ICELAND FOOD!

Yesterday 16th March a wake was held. We had 3 tables reserved in the middle of the pub only to be joined with an extremely loud system of Cheltemham Rackng for all to hear. The food arrived, different plates on each table, making it difficult to see what was available. The food was very over cooked and considering what was paid per head the value was terrible. Also when the bill was paid the landlord said it had to be paid in cash and not on a card, then proceeded to put the cash in his back pocket. I would not recommend this establishment at all.

Went to see what the Chequers was like after the new refurbishment, i must say it looks a lot cleaner now

Well firstly took ages to be served, ordered food told 15mins later didn't have what we ordered, man left given money back we had his food a platter on the house but wasn't complete. Manager said we could only have scampi which we didn't get instead gave us a refund He said he hadn't had his delivery, so put notice up kitchen closed then. Told us he's delivery just arrived. Plus freezing in there, unfortunately not good at all.other people had complained about the food Not happy.

Don't expect a warm welcome from the customers OR the staff if your not a regular, its definately not a place a place for taking the girlfriend, more of a lads place, although I'll agree it has improved in recent months with regards to refurb one thing you can't change are the locals. I'd recommend the Bull & Chequers which is just a stones throw away, and I don't see this as a recommendation I would change any time soon for excellent service and a warm welcome.
