World's End in Taunton Deane

I had booked a table online for my family. There were 11 of us and we get together every month to catch up as we live in different parts of the West Country. We arrived to be told they didn’t have our booking. I showed them a screen shot to be told that it couldn’t have gone through the online booking system correctly and it hadn’t been confirmed. The manager could clearly sense our frustration and did do her best to seat us on 3 tables next to each other so we could eat but this was not ideal.

We visited here during a trip to Somerset. It was a hidden gem. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the pub is very dog friendly they're also geared for children inside and out. The food was delicious. There are meal deals. There is also a good gluten free menu which has a good variety There are hidden toilets which is fun for the kids. A dog bar for the dogs. For us, though, what stood out was how friendly and welcoming the staff are. We visited a few times during our trip and would definitely come back the next time we are here

There were 7 of us in total we eat here for our sons 18th birthday meal. Great pub the food was relly good, staff were friendly and a realy nice clean pub. We felt very welcome and had a lovley time

Had Sunday lunch,expensive,small portions,chewy beef at best accompanied by a plate full of red cabbage and onions .dogs barking,passing wind awfull experience. Wouldn't go again Wouldn't recommend.

The manager was extremely rude when we asked what beers he had and he said just take a look. He looked annoyed at us for even asking. He wasn’t very nice when we asked where to sit either. I would never go back.

I have an allergy to garlic and as this isn't one of the fourteen main allergies,this restaurant made no attempts to accommodate me in my choice of meal.They would not swap out anything with garlic in it and said it was against company policy. The customer service was lacking.

A large pub with plenty of parking and handy for M5. Good for large groups/families. Some staff really really good , some not so much. It was quiet when we visited so why so much trash lying around. ?? Plates of food, bags of rubbish uncleared tables. It all adds up to an unpleasant evening. Food and value are average so if you want a reasonable no frills large gathering its ok. I had fish n chips and the chips were actually hidden under a not very big piece of fish. Eventually I found the peas.

Stopped off for a drink. We are locals. I was shocked how expensive it was for 2 drinks. £6 more expensive than other places around. Won't be going back. Ridiculous.

We walked into the Worlds end pub last Sunday afternoon at 14.30. A nice buzz from the tables dotted with families, etc. There is a nice atmosphere here, very welcoming, comphy. I was with my daughter and her partner today after visiting one of the close by apiaries of South Street Honey. Kati wanted the chicken pie. It comes with a bit of mash and some cabbage, peas, and bacon. The pie was ok Kati said. It looked full of filling. A bit long in the microwave she said. Mash was not very buttery, and the cabbage mix had a lot of rooty bits in it, and again over microwaved. She ate it though. More gravy next time as well. Sarah had the double cheese burger. She said it was alright. She liked the chips. Cheese was nice in the burger the the meat patties she said were nothing special. I have the vegan burger. Chips were nice like Sarah's. The pickles were good (I asked for cows milk cheese which was swapped for the plant cheese) Why don't chefs toast the burger bun? Sarah's weren't toasted either. It stops the sauce seeping into the bun and adds another texture. Drinks were as expected. Pudding were offered but at the average £8.50 each we opted out. Our bill was £72 for 3 drinks and 3 main courses. It's a bit on the pricey side for average pub grub. If the niggles were sorted and a bit more attention to detail, this would be a great place to eat.

I don't normally write a review when I have had good or bad experiences but with the service we received on Sunday evening it was hard not to mention. I have been coming to this pub for years but on our last visit it was very different to the previous ones. We booked our table Friday for Sunday and the gentlemen who took our booking was lovely, Very friendly and informative. At this point he asked if we had anyone with an allergies, I informed him we had a Coeliac (Its when your own gut attacks itself if you eat Gluten). When we arrived Sunday the same gentlemen took us to our table a confirmed that we had a Coeliac with us. We were handed an iPad and told to look at the allergy info with the Sunday Menu to check what you can have. Not Ideal but understandable. We were only picking off the bar snacks menu as we didn't want main meals not that there was a vast amount of Gluten Free choices on that either. Order all our food about 3 items each and there was 6 of us eating. The waitress came back tell us we couldn't have one of the things on the Menu as the CHEF had put an item containing Gluten in the GLUTEN FREE FRYER. When the Waitress informed us of this accident we asked for all our food to be put on hold while we had a chat and made our decision. This was not a problem and they came back to check on us a few times. On the last check we told the Waitress that we wanted to cancel the food as there was nothing suitable. Again this was not a problem. About 5 Minutes later another Waitress came over who seemed very standoffish from the get go. Asked us if we had chose another choice as the rest of our food was ready...... She was incredibly rude basically told us there was nothing they could and tried to make us feel as if we were the problem. She left the table to go and speak to the Chefs. (Not sure what they were going to do about it). Gone for about 10 minutes and then just walked right passed our table ignoring us to go and take another tables order. Now I know the customer is not always right however when someone has an allergy/ Intolerance to food this is a really personal and sensitive matter which already makes people feel vulnerable and excluded from enjoying things that others so without a worry. All staff walk around with an "Ask me about Allergies" badge on yet all refer you to an iPad! We went to the bar, to pay for the drinks we had. Lovely lad served us. Obviously didn't know what had happened, however the original waitress was there too. Ignored us and removed all the food from the bill and just walked off. Will we be coming back here? Absolutely not! Are we unhappy about? Absolutely Gutted! Because this place is beautiful.! However we ended up at EAT THE BIRD! Who have amazing knowledge staff who were super friendly and so much of their menu is suitable!

We booked for Sunday lunch to stop on our way to a further destination. Sadly it must have been a bad day for the kitchen as the roast was very sad in appearance and lacking in flavour. We ordered the sourdough to start us off, it was just some sliced white bread, very uninspiring. We then both ordered the roast beef, it was like leather, grey and tough, so we stuck to eating only the veg. The gravy was watery and the side of pigs in blankets looked so unappetising that we didn’t touch them. The waitress was lovely and did her best to make it right but as we had to get to our destination an adjustment on the bill was the fix and greatly appreciated rather than replacement dishes. It was very busy and obviously if you go on a good day it must have its positives but we won’t be returning to experience this sadly.

We stopped over at this very lovely, dog friendly pub in our large motorhome on route to St Ives in Cornwall. The carpark was huge, so no problem for us! Menu was good, and the staff were super helpful and welcoming! The cheese burger was to die for, as was the sticky toffee pudding!! Thanks very much, we will be back!

Had a lovely evening out at the World's End. We had a very friendly welcome with polite and efficient staff, and some delicious hot food. Will definitely be visiting again.

Not their finest hour. Went for dinner on a Sunday and appeared to be only about 6 other couples/small groups there (I’d guess about 10% capacity at most). Ordered a sharing starter and then mains and our waitress was lovely. Starter came and was good. 30 mins later we were still waiting for mains. They arrived shortly after and it was immediately apparent they had been sitting on the pass for quite a long time as the dipping sauce was congealed and had a skin on it and the fish pie was sunken in the dish and almost bone dry. Pointed this out to our waitress who assured us it had been brought to us as soon as the service bell was rung. We ate about half is it and gave up. Using their ‘scan and pay at table’ facility, we were presented with a bill for £95 (including 2 wines and 2 house lagers at a total of £32!!). This did also include a service charge of 10%, albeit later in the process we were invited to leave an additional tip! Won’t be going there again.

A warm welcome from Stephen on arrival, great service, and really tasty food, all at a decent price. A thoroughly enjoyable visit.

I have never felt the need to post on trip advisor before but the dinning experience I had at the worlds end yesterday was so bad I felt I needed to comment. I have been to this pub many times before and although expensive has generally been good quality. However yesterday I am not certain what was going on but the food took a long time to come out. Despite the restaurant being fairly empty. When it did it was cold and the quality was awful. I brought a burger and fries the fries were cold the burger buns were dry, the burger sauce had a skin on it and the burger tasted worse than one you would get from a fast food restaurant for a 3rd of the price. My wife order a Shepard's pie which again was cold was very small for the price and for some reason had mushrooms in it which my wife is intolerant of. Even the mayo seemed to be separating. I tried to speak to one of the bar staff but someone who I think was the manager interrupted into the conversation even though he was serving a table and carrying food. The interaction felt stand offish and very unprofessional. With the manger just shouting back at me as he ran off to serve the table "if you come in again you can your meal for free". As I have no idea who the guy was not sure how that could happen also its dependent on me going again which after this experience I will not be.

Vegan Sunday lunch was amazing! Great value, great beer selection and kind staff. The vegan no-nut roast was great, would come back.

We went with 28 family and friends for a buffet. Absolutely delicious food and the managers went above and beyond to make everything perfect for us. Highly recommend.

We were there on a pub stop over in our motorhome. We had a lovely meal and a few drinks. very friendly staff and a plenty of room in the car park for a large motorhome. We will definitely be back.

Visited last week on Tues lunch time. As soon as you walk through the door there's a sign saying dog friendly, before seating us they asked if our dog got on with other dogs, so thoughtful of them. There was only 2 front of house covering food and bar but they seemed to cope, were very welcoming and friendly. Food was good and they had both Outland IPA's. We will be back.

Went on a Wednesday for the quiz night. Main courses were all lovely - good portion sizes and tasty! Did take a while for someone to come and take our order though - feel like they were a bit understaffed. Took advantage of the offer for free puddings with any main course. Chocolate mousse was really lovely. My friend had the lemon tart though and was really disappointed - the tart case had a really thin layer of lemon in the bottom and then it was just filled up with some fruit placed in it. Good job it was free! Quiz was well run - an enjoyable evening overall

Attended a retirement party recently and paid £16 per head for a buffet. Sadly it was disappointing - all carb based. I even had a coleslaw only sandwich on cotton wool bread. There were no serving spoons which was not good for chips. Have had previous buffets which were of a better quality. Such a shame as the pub is a great place.

We had another fantastic experience at this pub today. We visit every year on our way to Cornwall and every year we have a great experience. The man who welcomed us into the pub was warm and friendly. He took the time to say hello to our dog and to ask us where we felt it would be best to sit with our dog. He then brought over treats for our dog, which was very much appreciated! The food was good as usual. We can’t fault it and will be back again. Thank you.

Unfortunately after enjoying a drink and ordering food it all went down hill , girls serving were so lovely and kind Mail Manager rude and obnoxious Still amazes me that people like him choose jobs people facing ? My meal was not nice at all , no one checked on us during meal and the whole purpose of us being there was to catch up and spend time together so I decided to not eat the meal and forget it really , the waitress was lovely and was happy to bring me an alternative which was really kind , the manager clearly took offence (remember no cross words no drama no other issue other than the inedible food ) he marches to my table and demands to know what was wrong with my food !? (Which has already been taken away ) I could go on but all that needs to be known was that he was rude obnoxious and unprofessional not something me or my friend appreciated And the free dessert on offer we discovered on leaving wasn’t offered to us I guess as punishment ? Have a nice drink there take your dog it’s such a nice pub the end

Went for lunch on Saturday,had a fabulous experience. Food was first class, staff very attentive and service was excellent. Great atmosphere nice and busy which didn’t affect the service.Highly recommended

I booked well ahead for a Christmas lunch for 3 of us. My friend lives in Taunton so it was one of his recommendations and the menu looked good. Arrived early and sat in a comfy area at the front by the fire enjoying our first drinks. Taken over to our table by a friendly manager (ALL the staff there were super friendly and chatty)we had a cosy table in the window. The courses arrived promptly and were all delicious, the turkey was the star though. The Christmas pudding was rich and spicy. Checked on once or twice, didn't feel pestered. Lovely atmosphere, decorations,food,drink and staff! Will definitely be returning

Party of 4 for lunch. Haven't been to this establishment for years, and to be honest, I wouldn't have thought about it as we all live on the opposite side of town, we rang around some of our usual haunts, but they were all booked solid in the run up to Christmas. Anyway, we did arrive about 20mins early for our booking, but shown to our table anyway. Ambiance was quite nice, all oak beamy, old tables and chairs, massive log burner in the entrance hall, you get the picture. Staff seemed quite nice, and reasonably professional. Ordered drinks while we perused the menu, the manager was quite informative about our wine choice (South African Shiraz). 3 had roast turkey, 1 the winter roast (nut roast) , it all arrived in good time, and very pleasant it was, turkey just right, crispy roast potatoes, massive Yorkshire puddings, and a nice selection of vegetables. Apparently the nut roast was the best in all of Christendom, and believe me, this lady has eaten a lot of nur roasts in her time. 3 had puddings which were fine. Price point was what to be expected. We would definitely return and recommend. Because I'm old and daft, I was referring to the pub as 'The End of the World' but its not the end of the world, its the World's End.

So looking forward to our roast beef, when it arrived was colds so we sent it back. Second time the beef was still cool and so tough we could not eat it, the whole meal was awful.

Awesome venue, nice staff but cold food, twice in a row. Cold in the middle of the pies. Not going back now as don't want food poisoning. Nothing deducted from bill for it either. Such a shame as super place otherwise.

As ‘walk ins’ I was shocked by the initial reaction of “so you’ve not booked a table” despite many empty tables we were told we could only eat in the bar, on either low couches or high bar tables and chairs. Get a grip, this is a pub, not a restaurant, this was lunchtime and not evening. Since when do you have to book a pub for lunch, particularly as we were not local and only passing through. So as it was getting late for lunch we did sit in the bar. After a few minutes and to her credit the hostess came over and said they had a cancellation (in the half empty restaurant) and that we could now have a table. This was a lovely window table, spoiled only by the disgusting, dusty window ledge containing sweet wrappers and and clearly elderly food detritus. Never mind the table was clean. Drinks service was prompt, sadly the same cannot be said for food. A steak sandwich and ham/egg/chips took 45 minutes to arrive. We were given no warning that the kitchen was ‘busy’ in this half empty restaurant. Anyhow the food was excellent, the beers good and the overall friendliness of the colleagues lead me to award a 4/5. Saved by the food and friendly service.

The Worlds End pub has great ambiance and atmosphere. The pub was nice and warm and we received a very friendly welcome from the staff and manager Mel who happily swapped our table for a quiet one in an alcove. Mel helped us choose our wine and we were given lovely shiny clean large glasses to enjoy it. Our meals arrived quickly, we had the venison with mash, vegetables and gravy. It looked great and tasted delicious. After the meal we sat on comfy leather sofas to share a very yummy sticky toffee pudding. Amber our retriever enjoyed some dog treats and the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It was a really great experience, I would like to repeat again soon.

Very disappointed when we were told cash only and there we here no signs to say this! We went in to have lunch and book a staff Christmas meal. We then went a few miles down the road booked for 32 people and paid a deposit by cash. We emailed the restaurant but no reply.

Decided to go out for lunch , with hubby for first time at the worlds end drink glasses had not be polished after dishwasher so had water marks all over them , starters were lovely , main was lacking service was sub par , no check backs and fired our mains before we were even ready for it wanted a break in between starters and mains , cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired very dusty and floor not cleaned properly from days before
