This cafe is within the grounds of Kilnwick Percy Hall, a statley home which is now a Buddhist Centre for Meditation. The grounds and surrounding countryside are beautiful. Visited the Peace Cafe and to be fair the location is hard to beat sitting in the conservatory, however we ordered tea for two and they gave us one small teapot with one measly teabag between two people, we asked for some hot water which was given but at £5 for the tea felt like we had been mugged, the cake was OK but the panini, also a fiver was light on filling and not value for money, a shame but we won't be going again. Just missed the free meditation session, probably have felt better if I'd had that.

Should have said something about this, must learn to be more assertive than peaceful! Got one teabag in a small teapot for two people at the cost of £5! Didn't realise there was only one teabag in it , then put one of my own in because l always have a few decaff in my handbag. The £5 panini was mean on the filling and served with only a few crisps. At £2.50 each thank god the flapjacks were tasty. Beautiful setting but what an absolute rip off, get in Morrisons cafe for far better value

Had a lovely cappuccino and cake. Sat in the conservatory overlooking the grounds, was quiet. Much more seating than before with the addition of the conservatory, and plenty outside seating when better weather. The staff, who i believe are volunteers were very pleasant. Decent size portions at a reasonable price. We went for a walk in the surrounding woodland, and walled garden. We will be going back and can recommend this place.

This is based at the Madhyamaka Kadampa Meditation Centre in Kilnwick Percy Hall in the beautiful Wolds just outside Pocklington. It has lovely grounds for a walk with a small lake to walk around. It's popular with families, the children have a playground near the cafe. You can walk around the Hall if you like. The cafe is popular for the basics, nice cakes, drinks & snacks. A lovely place for a visit. Dogs are welcome on a lead too as there are sheep in some of the fields.

We live in Pocklington and enjoy the walk to the Peace Cafe & the good food and refreshments available at budget prices. The multi national staff change often but always aim to please. Open between 10am and 4pmToday we enjoyed the homemade vegetable soup which was so tasty and we lost count of the large number of different veg in our bowls. We then sampled large slices of the very moist Carrot cake and the Lemon cake, both heavenly. The only disappointment we experience if we arrive late in the day to find high demand has emptied the cake shelves and the soup tureen! A big thankyou to all involved, keep up the good work.

Lovely setting for a cafe. Had a walk through the woods before visiting the cafe which the children really enjoyed. There is also a play area outside which is good for younger children on nice days. The best word to describe the cafe is ‘quirky’. From what I could tell, the cafe is run by people stopping at the Buddhist centre attached so not all of them know what they are doing. They were super friendly and tried very hard but seemed to be making up the prices as they went along and the service was quite slow. I wouldn’t say don’t visit though! It’s a lovely place for a relaxing stroll and a drink in the cafe afterwards.

We thought visiting here would be perfect for a vegetarian and vegan meal on our way into York. The setting is beautiful, but the poor lady trying to serve us could literally not understand what we were asking for. This would have been easier to swallow had their not been another member of staff working with her who spoke perfect English. I thought Buddhism was supposed to be about kindness?!

i agree with the other reviewer "lightweight 1980" unfriendly, cliquey & unloved . I haven't been for a while but decided to have a stroll down on wed morning with my new dog , a little disappointed to see building work going on but pleased to see the new conservatory, a lovely addition to the cafe. I think i arrived around opening time & after a brief chat with 2 lovely friendly girls about where to sit outside ( as my usual spot at the front was taped off due to the building work been done , i was directed round the back of cafe and suprised to see there was a dog friendly garden area with dog friendly cabin (not mentioned once whist enquiring where to sit ??), looked fab (sofas, tables and cosy fire ect fab idea) but it was locked and I noticed a tray full of dirty pots left on the table inside but as it was a lovely morning i didnt want sweat the small stuff & i sat outside, enjoyed my coffee and made a note to self to come back tommorow with camera as someone i know was looking for a dog friendly place to hold a charity event this would be ideal , fast forward to the day after, thursday morning my husband had a day off, so walked down again with camera, hubby and dog . we must of arrived just before opening time and i wander round the back again as my hubby went in to order coffees, i was a little disappointed to notice the dog cabin was still locked with the same dirty tray on the table , then my hubby came back coffee less and informed me that he went to order at the counter & there was 5 people ignoring him , when acknowledged by a man behind the counter he was told that they were closed, so hubby asked when they opened and he replied 10.30 , after a glance at his watch hubby said sorry but its 10.25 and waited for a reply ( please note people now stood behind man pouring large mugs of coffee for themselves ) and the man just stared him out and said we are closed , i live in the village next to this place and i have always enjoyed a stroll down over the years, and i appreciate they have a lot of untrained volunteer staff ( who have so far been lovely ) but as someone who has worked in the hospitality trade for 30 years i left feeling that maybe with the money they are spending on improving it cosmetically, that maybe some money should be invested in a manager with some basic customer service /cafe experience, it would benefit the cafe so much , its such a lovely quirky place and the dog friendly cabin could be such a winner if promoted and cared for a little better.

The website states that the cafe offers a selection of vegetarian and vegan choices - in reality there was no choice, it was soup which wasn't all that special either. We asked about spread for the bread roll and were told they used butter - my husband asked whether they had any margarine which they replied yes but they had no idea if it was suitable for vegans (which it actually was) sadly, I had eaten my soup and fairly stale roll by the time they brought out the margarine (they had brought me butter!!) so it was a little late. Overall it was overpriced and as I already said, there was no vegan 'choice'I won't return

Came here with my wife and baby expecting a nice relaxing walk and a cuppa and maybe a walk around the old house, no such luck. The place is really quite odd, no one to welcome you, gift shop and reception closed. The staff in the cafe paid us no interest whatsoever and the whole time we were there we felt like we were intruding in someone's home or had stepped in to a clique. The walks are unclear, couldn't find any path down to the lake, the walled garden was uninspiring and in the end we left feeling a bit flat and I welcomed wondering "what was all that about". I'm sure this is a lovely place as a retreat but please don't advertise this to the general public as it's not on, but of a wasted day out to be honest.

This used to be my favourite place, the location is perfect the cafe was beautiful the staff friendly all the above have changed. Now the cafe is often closed with advertisement which is a real shame as its quite a journey to get there. So be prepared to make the journey to find the place not open. The old building with stove is no more. Now a more corporate not really world peace cafe is bring built in the meantime a temporary solution is the hall which is ok but not really fit for a cafe. The food has gone down hill, the soups are still lovely but the only thing to drink is tea as the staff are often not able to make coffee / hot chocolate worse than if made at home by a teenager. Such a shame this place has gone so far downhill. Last time I took I guest here and the staff were actually rude to them about their accent and choice of food, my friend was suffering from low confidence not really the behaviour you would expect at buddhist centre. We drove for an hour and they didn't have any gluten free anything. There had been a rush on. The woman who usually does that for us didn't.In that situation the psychological deal is that you apologise and share some of the pain, then the complainant feels that they've been heard, maybe they'll improve, these things happen. If you have an inner golden core of immutable happiness, however, we complain, you seem to be saying "yes, we don't have gluten free, but the sun is still beautiful, aren't you happy?" Err, no, increasingly not.The chap who brought our coffee steadied the cup by gripping around its rim. Children played, free of the burden of consideration. My partner drank from the untouched part. My cake and coffee didn't taste of much.Where does the money come from for this massive building? Ommm training? I only ask because a normal cafe will only survive if it does a great job. If this cafe will exist regardless, then who cares? World Peace Cafe? I'm a peaceful, forgiving chap. At 56 years old I've never punched anyone. I felt like it this day though. Arrived happy. Left feeling unusually violent. So long as the Buddhists are happy.

I'm a regular here and it's perfect for meeting up with friends, family or just escaping for a quiet time. For such a tucked away cafe it's definitely popular but with so much outdoor space there's always somewhere to sit. My favourite place is on the sofa next to the wood burning stove - or on a sunny day out on one of the picnic benches looking out over the grounds. The cafe is set in a Buddhist community and is run by their volunteers so every is hap. There's woodlands, parkland, a lakeside walk, walled gardens and the historic house to look around too. It's all free entry and parking, which you don't find much these days. There's a recent addition of a small play area for the little ones and they also have a summer house that functions as a dog-friendly lodge so you can sit indoors with your pooch. Coffee is great (they do a lovely espresso) and the cakes are amazing! Can't recommend this place enough.

A group of us called for a coffee and cake, as we have in the past. Coffee, latte great, Americano luke warm, scones poor - not the freshest we've tasted. Surroundings beginning to look tired and shabby, which is a shame. Above all, which saddened us, was the guy who served us was far from happy.

This small scale rendezvous is quite hidden away though for those who have discovered its delights the journey there is well worth repeating at regular intervals. Open all year round and recently extending the opening hours and days it is a regular stopping place for cyclists travelling through the Wolds as well as the regular walkers and local people. The range of food on offer is very limited although care is taken and it is well prepared and presented, quite adequate for most daily needs though don't expect a full restaurant menu. Unusual features here are the wooden cabins including one exclusively for dog owners which also has toys and play areas for the children. The gardens and grounds of the Buddhist Centre within which the cafe is situated are splendid and wonderful to explore. There are woodland trails, two lakes, plenty of wildlife and fabulous views as well as the magnificent if slightly crumbling small stately home with its history and charm. Photogenic backdrops abound and the centre itself has a pleasant gift shop, information on shorter and longer courses and retreats for those interested in trying meditation and sampling the Buddhist life. The cafe itself has a good range of teas, hot drinks and always gives as much cool water as you need. There is a really cosy feel here in the winter months with sofas and a log~burning stove. Wi~fi is available and extensively used. As far as I am concerned the star attraction, other than the setting, is the to die for range of delicious cheesecake which is just blissful. This is a little jewel of a rest stop and worth making a destination for a cycle ride. The very attractive small village of Millington is not far away which makes a good next stop if you continue in that direction. Experience this one for yourself. You'll almost certainly be back again. There is also B and B accommodation available both at the Madhyamaka Centre and close by. The Paws Awhile guest house actively encourages pet owners to bring their animals along and even has stabling there. A lovely area and a fine facility at the heart of it. Enjoy!

I've visited the cafe several times, as the roads around it are great for biking. The cafe is in the grounds of the old mansion, and has tables outside in a little garden, with a great view over the lawns and the church of St.Helen. The coffee is always good, as are the all-veggie options for a light lunch. The cakes are top drawer. Staff are super-friendly and helpful.

This is a tiny cafe serving vegetarian food. It is behind the mansion being used as a Buddhist Centre. There are interesting menu options and good coffee. It is pleasant to sit outside on a sunny day or walk off the cake by following the lake path.

We popped in here originally for lunch at 11:45 but they don't start serving hot lunch until 12:30. We had coffee and cake instead, the coffee is very good and fresh and the cakes are very interesting- we had liquorice muffins, very unusual but really nice tasting. Just a pity they don't serve hot lunch at what I would call lunch time!

A delightful find on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. Set in the grounds of a Buddhist retreat centre (in an ancient mansion), this small cafe offers a small but delicious range of savouries and sweets, together with real coffee and "teapigs" tea. We had the cheese scones (very cheesy and with a noticeable mustard content) followed by fudge cheesecake (fudge shavings on the top and throughout the cheesecake, which was very light, almost like a mousse). You can sit inside or outside - we took advantage of the spring sunshine to sit on the verandah, looking across the garden to the Norman church (rebuilt by the Victorians) which sits just outside the grounds. There are several walks in the grounds and a peaceful walled garden - excellent stop-off on the route to the east coast.

I love the Peace Cafe. I should have written a review some time ago, however until now simply forgot to do it. I forgot , not because the cakes aren't delicious, the surroundings peaceful and the grounds beautiful. I forgot because when I'm there, it is an opportunity to forget all of the stresses and strains of everyday life, to take some time out for myself, enjoy tasty flavoursome coffee and scrumy cakes. Visit , take some time out for hrs elf, you won't regret it.

We stopped here for coffee and cake on a Thursday afternoon, the cafe is very small and intimate. We've had the soup here before and it is always very good and tasty. This time it was mid afternoon so we had coffee and cakes, the cakes are home made and look delicious. I had the Malteaser cake and my partner had the lemon cake which was gluten and dairy free. Both cakes tasted good and the coffee is excellent. It's a tad expensive but you get what you pay for, a recommended visit.

This cafe is set in 42 acres of parkland at the foot of the wolds. The cafe in this tranquil setting serves excellent coffee and wonderful cakes and scones. Vegetarian lunches are also available. Sit on comfortable sofas and let the troubles of the world fade away. Walk through the grounds to the lake or through the woodland and before leaving visit the hall. This is Kilnwick Percy Hall a Buddhist meditation centre take time to see THE TEMPLE and gaze in awe at the ceiling and meditate a while.

Dropped into the World Peace Cafe for a quick coffee & bite to eat, received helpful service from the friendly and happy staff, will certainly be revisiting. Only downside is the menu was very limited on the day I visited i.e. no sandwiches just cakes, this was due to a shortage in staff. The Cafe is situated at the internationally-renowned Kadampa Meditation Centre therefore land surrounding is vast & perfect for a quiet walk, it's dog friendly too! As this is a Buddhist centre the Cafe is vegetarian, visiting is certainly recommended.

Cold coffee, which was a real shame as the majority of breakfast was really quite nice. We will be here for breakfast again when we next stay. Staff were friendly.

Ordered a mini Monty sandwich, the girl that took my order was that slow at making it I was the only customer at the time. it was cold when I ate it straight out of the shop, bacon was like leather and the egg was like rubber £4.80 don’t think I’ll b back.
