Friendly pub, nice athmosphere, good selection of ales, great pies and fish and chips.

As in other posts for this establishment, the girl behind the bar left us feeling like some one who was an alien. Came across as didn't giving a toss who she upset. I asked for 3 drinks, she only served 2 and gave the impression that that was our fault. I asked if food was being g served she said everyone comes to the bar for everything. We sat down, finished our drinks and left. On leaving I confirmed her name was Emma. I told her to look at the reviews of the place.

A nice pub but it is a bit pricier than other pubs in the town

Had a lovely welcome for Lorraine and Emma when we visited, they were really friendly and welcoming, we were visiting the area for a few days for my husband's 60th birthday. Great atmosphere and so bloody friendly we went back again. Thankyou ladies you are amazing.

Have been every time we've been pocklington area on holiday never been let down staff n food is amazing is all I can say big screen out side .Staff couldn't do enough to make sure I meal was perfection

Not a very good experience. For being advertised as fresh food, the mac and cheese come out still frozen, and the hot chocolate ordered was freezing. Upon returning the food my partner went to the kitchen to say she didn't want the food now to find the bar maid sharing negative comments about my partner returning the food

beautiful little pub but the back bar was the best. Even met The Lord Mayor of Pocklington and it was ace

Spent 10-15 minutes waiting to be served before leaving and going to elsewhere. It was no atmosphere as you had 5 people in, and it took that long to before I got bored waiting and went elsewhere. Clown.

The Black Bull is a nice traditional pub. There is a good selection of beers, lager and cider, including two cask conditioned hand pulled, real ales farmers blonde and doom bar. There are three rooms and an outside seating area at the back. The beer was excellent, and the food menu looked very tempting, although we didn't try the food on our visit. It's a dog friendly pub.

Good value for what it was but i'm guessing the 'get what you pay for' is appropriate in this case

Before I first walked in properly into they Black Bull, one of the bar ladies, I noticed, was watching me enter into they drinking place, but still, I had entered in there. I walked in, too, met with 3 others in the bar at they time and I believe they were planning on ordering food, so I had gone through mu options in the menu for myself and I was sent to they Bar. I ordered any drinks and food at the time, so non alcoholic and a Heineken. I had 2 of those and had waited for it to arrive. Whilst I was drinking and chatting and waiting for food they Bar lady at they time there appeared to be watching our table quite a lot more, but we carried on waiting and chatting. And then our food arrived she had picked up on they fact that they food you will eat on they plate will be hot and mentioned it to myself, which in a way I do get a lot from many places I eat in. And then we were eating, and at the time, we were discussing radiators in properties and Gas and electric utility bills, and they bar lady did approach our table and believed we were still on they subjects of hot plates or hot food items but I mentioned no just Radiators.

Came away for a nice chilled time away with friends wanted to go out for a nice pub lunch but was disappointed to watch the chef take out a frozen pizza from the out door shed across from where we was sat! The mac and cheese was clearly a microwaved meal and the garlic bread that came with it was covered in fluff from a tea towel, the pie had next to no meat and the mash clearly frozen aswell!

Very friendly service and welcoming. Good food fish and chips well cooked and tasty. Meat pie and peas and runner beans and mashed potatoe again great and to finish it all off two lovely large cups of coffee and two hot milks. Would definitely go again. Couldn't fault the pub.

Shocking service by staff on Christmas Eve! Won't go back in a hurry! All we wanted was a simple song to be played, and the two girls were downright rude! So we as a party of 8, left!

Very busy as the Xmas Market was on. Only 2 staff coping with serving in 2 rooms. Lots of people walked in and left. Shame because it's not a bad pub.

I am delighted to recommend this pub.

Popped in today as we're staying close by on holiday, weren't sure where to go but glad we came in here. Food was excellent, drinks were good and the staff were very friendly. Proper good traditional pub

Came for lunch on Tuesday with some friends and a baby. Food on the whole was good ( apart from the fish and chips frozen grey horrid ) but would recommend steak sandwich. The service industry is what it says on the tin !!! If you don’t want to serve people don’t be a waitress or a barmaid!!! If you can’t manage a smile or manners then change careers ! I recommend a dustbin lady or night porter as these both have minimal contact with the public. Arrange your restaurant so that the grumpy staff can get past customers on chairs eating without huffing and puffing !!! Puts a slightly sour taste in the customers mouth when staff are unwelcoming….

All around great place for food and drink

booked a table for 12 pp today 24/9/23 . food was absolutely disgusting. my friend was served uncooked peas with her meal . and when we spoke to the bar staff . he said the chef said sorry about that . and didn’t offer any refund or or asked if we wanted any more peas . mine and friends left most of the food . and the guys they had working there today was absolutely shocking service. ! *** i cannot respond to owners review so i have to add onto my comments instead. we did turn up 40 mins late but we kept trying to phone you to let you know & there was no answer. in fact we have tried to phone loads of times since to discuss this and nobody answers. the bar staff did not apologise for the food all they said was ok. they never even offered to replace the frozen peas ! when we complained a 2nd time he said i will tell the chef and that was it. At no point did anyone ask us if the food was ok !! And at no point did anyone say they would bring fresh peas out! we did not complain about the rest of the meals as we could see there was no point. Hence why we have been trying to phone all week. but nobody ever answers the phone. i can honestly say there was not one good meal that day and in fact the last few months the food has not been good. ***

Not too bad it was a third choice because other pubs in the area didn't serve food even if the signs outside said they did???

Had lunch in several places in Pocklington but this one stands out for the standard of its food and can't praise it enough. Not a massive menu but what they do they do well, plus it was 50% off food Monday to Wednesday. Nice atmosphere and service excellent. Deserved 5 stars I think👌

Friendly staff my hubby got a chicken burger it was not what is was described as in menu when asked about ot they blamed not being able to get chickens not happy shame they didn't say when ordered

Not impressed.called in today for a drink and meal.finally got the drink from the young lady after she had finished serving the locals. Never came back to ask us our order which actually did us a favour as it was burgers or hotdogs on a very limited menu.such a shame as service and menu last year was very good.i can only think they have had a management change.you don't get repeated custom treating people like this.

Barmaid was lovely on entry. Rest of younger staff lacked manners, didn't ask how the meal was, thank us for coming or even said goodbye. Food was good, but awkward experience.

Lovely staff, lovely beer garden

The pub itself was nice, food was lovely. Unfortunately the service we received was awful, extremely rude waitress who was extremely annoyed we were there as she then couldn't stand in the corner with customers who were clearly her underaged friends. Also the atmosphere was awful as the waitress friends then stared at us the whole time we were sat waiting and eating as if to intimidate us to leave and the waitress was very sharp and quite rude to us. Truly dissopointing as food was lovely but completely let down by the service. Would not return.

Had 2 pints of blond and water for dog all good ordered burger big mistake chips looked like they had been cooked twice and stud in oil burger had so much liquid that the bun was like a soggy spunge the 2 stars are for the beer the food was bad

Great Pub, very Impressed: we stopped in Pocklington today to get our first pint since lockdown easing. Staff were very attentive and friendly, drinks great and prices reasonable, dog and child friendly with a great secret beer garden and the cleanliness and covid safeguarding was fab with staff wearing masks and was easy to follow their system. Will definitely be back when next in the area!!

A really nice pub in the town centre. The staff are really friendly and they were all wearing face masks and cleaning the tables as soon as they became empty. The food was nice and the service was quick. This is how a pub should be during the current situation. We will be back.

A last minute place for an evening meal as we turned up mid afternoon. Good covid precautions and a warm welcome awaited us. Food was hot and reasonably priced, would recommend the cider apple crumble!!! Dog friendly

Too many staff trying to do the same thing making slow service, not very polite and expensive pint, distinct lack of atmosphere, probably just a bad day but that doesn't excuse the prices.

Got a simple drinks order of 5 drinks wrong and the food presentation was distinctly poor and portion size small for the price. Going to put this visit down to Covid...will give it another try when things get back to normal.

If you ever find yourself in Pocklington, and you want something to eat or drink. You can't go wrong in visiting the Black Bull. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, along with good food and drink.

Friendly attentive staff. Table service at the moment and not always the quickest but I could see they were doing they're best with the amount of customers they had. On the whole a really good pleasant pub with great staff.

Went for lunch today, people who were served before us waited an hour for food, as we heard them complain. Gave it the benefit of the doubt ours came in 35 mins..... need & ale pie was ok mash cold and disgusting peas and 3 broad beans shocking, had to ask for gravy for the dry offering which came in a family gravy boat I sliced off 3 lumps as it congealed on the plate, my partner had the scampi 10 scampi 14 chips 3 lettuce leaves a slice of tomato with a slight scattering of red onion....... shocking! Staff were great refunded our drinks but sorry the chef has to go.......

My first post lockdown visit to a pub. Good spacious beer garden. Drinks served to table.

Fabulous atmosphere...love it..

I do not recomend the food. The only good thing I can say was it filled me up. Non of the food was hot. It all looked like it was microwaved, everything from the kids pizza to the Sunday dinner. The mash was incredibly thick. The veg wasn't even the right colour . We found it incredibly hard to cut through the shop bought Yorkshire puddings. My mum found a hair in her dinner all we got was a uncomfortable giggle and bearly apology from the waiting staff. Poor quality all round.

Friendly great pub. I always feel welcome and able to go on my own for a drink, very female friendly. Robin and the team are great. Food looks fantastic cant wait to try it.

I went hear last night to watch the England match. From the outside the pub looked nice with 3 rooms with the sung been the the back plus a beer garden. When we first went it was quite however after a short period the swearing from the manager and his friends was very loud and Inappropriate. Then the manager sat while the girl behind the bar did all the running about. Plus the manger was bad mouth an ex member of staff who in his words had to be sacked and told his mates why in a very loud voice. I personal think that the swearing and talking about ex members of staff is not appropriate for the pub floor. I work for a large company and would not like to hear my team speak like the manager did. I think every other words was a F. I was visiting the area for the second time within a few years and thought we would try the local pubs, however I will, never step back in this pub and think the manager needs to be pulled about his attitude and language spoken .

What an amazingly dissatisfied visit it was when my family and I went for a meal out at the Black Bull! Both the children ordered from the children's menu and both their meals were prepared in the microwave, and the server didn't even bat an eye when she informed me of this. My husband and I both had the worst burger in the world. Rubber would have been a better name for it. The service was slow and unpleasant and the staff were not interested in doing their job

Went in for lunch there were 5 of us plus a two year old couldn't of been more helpful.the lady behind the bar was amazingly helpful too keep everyone happy the service was great and the food was great would definitely go back again..nice atmosphere couldn't fault the experience and the Guinness was great so a happy parent.

Thought we would try this pub for an evening meal as staying in the area, well what a waste of time.We went in and sat down only to be told 'we don't serve food after 7'. Considering there were boards outside advertising food and no mention on their website either of not serving after 7 I think it's very poor. To be honest it looked a bit of a spit and sawdust type of place so I certainly wouldn't recommend.

popped in on Friday 16th August for a meal. I was greeted with sorry we didnt have food on today. However a local told to try the Feathers Hotel up the road. A big thank you to him, we had a fabulous meal. Sorry Black Bull,.

Great food and drinks.Really nice staff

Went there yesterday and ordered a goats cheese salad, and a steak salad. Both meals around£9 each. Waited around an hour for the meals to be served, when they finally arrived I was appalled. The salad consisted of unwashed little gem, cucumber slices which were dried out they were that old, and peppers which were soft and not fit for eating. Sprinkled with around a spoon of goats cheese and a blob ( description fits the presentation ) of onion marmalade. No dressing .... and the steak salad was just as poor.... the steak was cold...the salad 2 days past it's best. The only reason I am giving this 1 star is because when the manager (who was far to busy to see a customer and right an order) sent the bar staff to deal with me. She agreed with and refunded me completely. I will never eat here again.

Food was lovely, atmosphere was great. Young lady behind the bar very helpful when my little boy fell and cut his knee, supplied us with antiseptic wipe and plasters, couldn't thank her enough. Lovely place to visit x
