Popped in for a bite to eat with the family. There is a nice selection of bar food and also a specials board. I ordered the liver and bacon and was not disappointed, very large portion and tasted great. Cosy place to have a beer and eat.

Newly refurbished wow what a difference! Went across tea time very busy so would recommend booking a table. Staff lovely food delicious as always

Came in on Saturday and had the chicken penne it was amazing. My wife had the fish and chips. The fish was nice but the chip seemed to be cooked from frozen which was a let down. Over all was still very nice.

Service with a snarl, we booked a table as usual for 5.30 on a Friday evening, when we arrived to order some drinks we were rudely told we should hurry up and order because we would have to leave within 1.1/2 hours regardless of whether or not our food had arrived, we sat for and decided what we wanted to order however no lasagna available, so we both decided to order the fish and chips, the fish was alright but the supposedly home cooked chips were frozen and over cooked to the point that they couldn’t be eaten, I never mind paying good hard earned money for good food and service but this was not a pleasant surprise at all !!

Great old style pub, has seperate bar and lounge areas, plenty of seats available when we visited. Also outdoor seating available Food was excellent, can highly recommend the Jumbo Haddock. Staff were very pleasant and great service

We took the decision to book a very last minute Sunday lunch. I booked online and immediately received a telephone call from a very polite member of staff, just to ask if we were ok to eat in the bar area as the lounge was fully booked. I’m so glad we did, the Sunday lunch was delicious. With both mash potatoes and roasties (most places only serve roast potatoes) and a wide range of vegetables. We will definitely return in the future.

We visited the Star as a family of 6. I was a bit nervous after reading some of the reviews on here, but I need not have been. All 6 of us had outstanding meals. My husband had the crab salad which was lovely and fresh and a very big portion. The steak pie was home made and absolutely delicious and full of tender meat. One of our party had the lamb shank which was huge and so tasty and the meat just fell off the bone. The service was friendly and efficient and nothing was too much trouble. We don’t live in the area but have family here. We will not hesitate to return to the star on our next visit… absolutely fabulous.

We booked for 30 people and there was ample food, with plenty of variety. The room is pleasantly arranged, ample seating with a small bar and outside patio area also with seating. It was a very pleasant experience and we would definitely recommend it.

My daughter and I booked the Bistro at the Star Inn for a wake on 5th July 2024 after paying a preliminary visit to view. Harriet and the staff were friendly and helpful. The savoury buffet and mini cakes were very good. We booked for 30 people and there was ample food, with plenty of variety. The room is pleasantly arranged, ample seating with a small bar and outside patio area also with seating. Room hire is £50. Buffet 10.95 pp tea and coffee included and mini cakes optional £3.95 pp. It was a very pleasant experience and we would definitely recommend it.

Excellent lunch with both of us having the delicious steak pie. Nice cool pint of wainwright. Only a small point is that my father's power wheelchair has a leg extension, which made access to the lounge not possible this time. However, the staff were very helpful, allowing us to have our lunch in the other room.

Went with friends one Monday afternoon. Am in a wheelchair at the moment and managed to get a disabled spot. The carpark is not over big, but has on street parking. We ordered drinks and food. The drinks came quick and followed maybe 15-20 minutes later but piping hot. We all ordered the meat pie and it was lovely. Nice pastry top n bottom and large lumps of beef. We orded extra gravy (free) which they brought straight away. We never had starters or puddings, everyone was full from main course. As I said we went on a Monday afternoon so can't say if the service would be the same on an evening or weekend when more people would be out in the pub. I hope it would be somewhere near. All in all a nice place for an afternoon lunch.

Was ok not very friendly even had to ask for a menu and nobody even asked if everything was ok with the meals, and portion sizes were small for the price.

Had some Chicken Goujons and could taste the fat it was cooked in, I think it wanted changing. Thought the sweets were expensive.

i had my 70th birthday celebrations last saturday at the stables bistro The Star willerby. This is an excellent venue and was perfect for our needs.The buffet was very varied and delicious We were looked after by sophie and kiera who both worked very hard to look after us and are a credit to The Star. Thank you to all involved a 5star review for a 5star service

The lambs liver and bacon, with colcannon and vegetables was a delight.

Cracking home cooked food. Decent choice of lagers, ales and spirits too. Staff friendly and more or a chilled atmosphere which was great for a family meal to celebrate a birthday 🎈 more pricey than your average pubs food-wise but you get what you pay for in my opinion and well worth it. I had the mixed grill which was probably one of the nicest I've had, decent portions and good cuts of meat. Chips are to die for and remind me of my mum's proper chip pan fried chips!! Will certainly be visiting again soon 👍

Excellent choices on main menu plus a specials board. Great pub food. Served hot and plenty of it. We went on a busy Saturday night so booking is a good idea. Excellent hand pulled beer plus the now popular lagers. Happy to return.

not been for awhile the refurbishment looks well the staff were very good the food and drinks excellent what let in down were the toilets the gents stank and over powering it needs to improve quickly a shame it was let down it is not you would expect in a place where food is served

Found this pub by chance and very pleased we did. Good traditional pub with car park, ample seating,lovely staff and home cooked food.

I had heard that there was good home cooked food served however I was disappointed after asking if the puddings were home made and not microwaved individual puddings, I was told that the sponges were made in big trays and then cut and served; to then be given a round pot shaped microwaved sponge with bland sauce and hard parts where it had been overheated. Spoiled the meal and cost £14 for two puddings we could have got from Tesco for a couple of pounds. Shame as I specifically asked!

This was the third visit in 4 weeks, again no heating on, the radiators were cold, turned off. The Sunday Roast was terrible. We ordered at the bar, the girl serving us was friendly and efficient. We ordered the Roast Beef lunch, amazingly it came within minutes. The beef was tuff and chewy to the point I couldn't eat it, the Yorkshire Pudding looked like a Pancake, the meal was only just warm. The chef should be ashamed of himself sending out a meal like this. I did complain to the waitress when she cleared the table, she did say sorry, I asked her to tell the chef, she returned with a cash refund. I will never return here again and I certainly wouldn't recommend this place.

Nice place to eat. Couldn't fault the food or drink. Only lost a star on service as one of my party was waiting a bit too long for the veg to accompany his meal, eaten nearly half of it when the veg came to the table. Although that was the only meal it happened with. Apart from that small thing, everyone thought their food was very good. A music act was later, who also turned out to be decent. We'll certainly be going back.

The Star Inn is an excellent traditional friendly community pub. There is a large, comfortable lounge and a back room bar with a pool table. It had four hand pulled cask conditioned real ales on when I called in. The excellent food is homemade and very popular. The mixed grill is fabulous. The service is excellent, highly recommended.

Luxury seafood pie, not good, 2 prawns a flake of salmon and fish. Very sloppy top.

We had a lovely time here at the weekend it was very busy but we were told there was a delay on food orders when we arrived. When food did come we were not disappointed quality was excellent and service really good. Good selection of drinks in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Visited with a friend for a late lunch. I was really careful explaining my order to the server on the bar however it still turned up wrong. It was corrected but by the time it came back I’d eaten a good part of my side. I did think the woman server on the bar could have been friendlier however the lady who brought the food and corrected my order was much more friendly. My friends food looked good and a big size.

Family of 4 went for lunch and was very disappointed. Had visited earlier in the year and had enjoyed the meat pie. Sadly, the recent experience was incomparable. Large chunks of meat full of fat with without taste. Accompanying vegetables cold and looked like they had been out since the previous day. Am keen to support local businesses but not if they do not maintain their standards. Really poor and a family treat ruined - will not be returning.

Soft drinks ridiculously overpriced. Ask prices before buying to avoid a nasty shock.

A great, local place for a meal after a recent family event. Service was very friendly and efficient. Food was also good, though I might have preferred just a couple more of the hand-cut chips with my fish! Have visited with family before, and will undoubtedly visit again. Well worth trying - for food and/or for drinks!

Seems to be a predominantly food pub, although we have only been in early evening. Small bar around the back with a pool table, but you do seem invisible to staff in here when they are busy serving food in main lounge. Friendly & relaxed 😌

Terrible roast lunch. Yorkshire cold and flat . Veggies undercooked. Mashed potatoes not nice. Pie was full of meat but chunks were far too large and pastry awful this week. Cauliflower always undercooked. Won't be returning even though on doorstep. Rather cook myself and I'm no chef. Very disappointed

Went to a private party in the back room, the hot buffet was nice. Coffee was poor and very overpriced. The service was ok, had a to wait at the extremely small bar a couple of times, but there were only a couple of girls on, who were very friendly and pleasant, and helpful. Several of the guests went to the main bar for drinks. This was probably a good plan.

Thursday tea time, very busy. Bar staff very good, and the food was excellent at a very reasonable price. Probably worth booking, I was dining alone (working away) and they squeezed me in. Glad I came, well worth a visit.

We had lunch in the Star the other day. There was fly's around our table. The service was poor one of main course had very little sea food in it. So overall very underwhelming we will not return for sometime 🥺

Food is made in house and tasty but slightly over priced for what was offered. Been in gastro pubs and paid the same for far better quality food (veggies were over cooked and curry bland). Service was excellent and staff polite and helpful esp to the aged members of the party. Happy hour and discounted early dinner (tea in Yorkshire) was a better price to pay.

One of the best Sunday dinners we've had in years! Very, very impressed 😉 We were supposed to eat elsewhere today, but thankfully there were no spaces available, so a little Google search later and we found The Star Inn. The staff were amazing, so pleasant, helpful and full of smiles! It's hard to find such great people like this ♥️ A Sunday dinner (a great one ☺️) can be made at home, after balancing lots of different cooking times and temperatures. But so many places/pubs/establishments just never deliver when cooking en masse. Not today though 🙀😁 We just loved this meal: lovely herbs on the roast potatoes; tasty, crunch and soft (in the right places 🤣) Yorkshire puddings; veg that wasn't tuned into a soggy mess; fabulous broccoli and cauliflower cheese (not soggy 👍); nicely seasoned meat and mashed potatoes... Even the gravy had a great flavour, and yes, I scaped out the last of the gravy with a spoon 🤫☺️ Thank-you to everyone that was working today, you made our day and our amazing meal 🙂

Had Sunday lunch here for first time ever. Amazing for a local pub. Everything cooked great and really tasty. Great portion size and definitely fantastic value for money. highly recommend for a Sunday dinner, couldn't fault it. And the serving team were great, really friendly.

Nice port of call after facing blizzards and rain. Needed a quick pitstop prior to a long drive home.

Food wasn’t as described on the menu, but ‘nice’ Took an hour to arrive, no pre warning of the waiting time although we had a child with us. Toilets dirty. Staff friendly but shrugged off my complaint. Emailed them to express my disappointment, no acknowledgment of my email. Very disappointing. Won’t be returning and absolutely would not recommend.
