One of the best coffees I’ve had in a long time! And the cakes and pastries are so fresh, rustic and homemade. Love it!

A flat white should be served in a small cup not a medium. All coffees appear to be served to be standard medium, unless specified. Not sure if this is to profit more but regardless the milk to coffee consignment is not right, which is a shame as it’s the only coffee shop in the neighbourhood.

We live locally to this coffee shop, which would be a perfect spot for piping by for the quick coffee with a cake or get the beans for our coffee machine. Unfortunately, the young lady that works in a shop hasn’t been a big help, as I went couple times to get beans for my coffee machine and she didn’t know the roasting date of the product( it essential info while buying beans). Also, coffee shop ambience is a bit depressing as the place need some rework-update. It is not very comfortable for stayin coffee. I have previously visited another work house coffee shop branch and I love it, so it would be nice to have same quality shop in Oxford street too.

Best coffee in Reading, I take a detour to work in the morning to get my coffee made perfectly by Kirsty, who is amazing! Definitely check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

Coming home from Australia where they take their coffee very seriously, to find this gem along the Oxford Road was a God send! They even stock Bonsoy Milk which is so much better than other dairy alternatives that I've tried. The coffee is delicious with various roasts available, as well as some great looking brownies and blondies. It is slightly more expensive than other coffee alternatives but well worth it if you're a proper coffee snob.

Popped in for a drink while walking past . Really friendly welcome from Kirsty - all shops should have a “Kirsty” serving to brighten up our days . Got to choose the particular pastry I wanted and real tasty proper coffee as a bonus

Visited here on the never ending hunt for good coffee in a morning. I wasn't disappointed! Very warm and friendly welcome from the knowledgeable barista who whips up a cracking flat white, happy birthday for tomorrow! If I'm ever in Reading again I'll be popping in, easy to park outside, fast and friendly service. Long live independent businesses!

The barista at this coffee shop consistently produces an excellent cappuccino. In terms of flavour, presentation and most importantly for me, density and durability of the frothed milk, I have not come across better cappuccino anywhere.

I must admit to loving coffee but find it hard to get a great cup. However, this place makes the best . If you like you high street burned taste coffee then keep away. But, if you like coffee full of flavour and caffeine then jump in. The staff know their coffee too and are really friendly. Go with what they recommend for your taste.

Great little cafe for this neighbourhood. Large selection of drip coffee and tiny tables to sit and people watch on this busy road. Not a lot of food on offer but what they do have is fresh made by the staff. Only open limited hours so check before coming or you could be disappointed!

Went into the Oxford Road branch, I usually grab a coffee on Mondays and Wednesdays from here. Time was 1.20, I was met by a rude frown when walking I sensed the waitress was grumpy. I said "I'm sorry are you open?". She rudely replied in a short sarcastic tone whilst laughing... "What does it look like"? and pointed to the sign. I told her the sign says you close at 1.30. She repled that she has to clean up to close for then. Pathetic that workhouse does not even have a number to make a complaint. Pathetic, overpriced coffee. Stick with Starbucks.

I have been to WCC before and was never disappointed. This morning I asked for a coffee mocha but received, well, I am still not sure what it was. The colour was yellow and the taste was bitter. If I didn't know better, I would think I was being poisoned. That pleasure cost me £3.30! Will be back in Costa tomorrow.

Lovely friendly coffee shop with chatty staff. Seems to have lots of loyal locals who were also very friendly. Perfect to pop in to on your way into town or pottering about. Not a place to go sit for a long time with a little one but he was happy enough looking at the massive mirror!

The original - and still the best - Workhouse Coffee, a quieter alternative to the town centre version. Always a warm welcome for locals and those venturing into the Oxford Road for the first time. Coffee is what it is all about, and is taken very seriously - down to the choice of bean - all expertly roasted in-house, and sourced from independent growers. Great choice of homemade ciabattas, quiches, sausage rolls and cakes. And now there is paella all weekend - absolutely fantastic and easily as good as anything we have had, even in Spain! People of Reading...go and visit!

Coffee is decent but no better than the others. Key difference is the staff and the home made food. I am reliably informed by my partner that the paella is to die for. But different to the other food offerings in the area. They also offer takeaway.

It´s always a wonderful experience to be able to get a coffee made to your personal taste. In Workhouse Coffee Company you have the choice between maybe 8-10 different coffee origins (I´m not that sure of the way the grains are exposed though), and in function of the specific coffee they prepare you a filter or espresso. I really enjoyed my Congo, but I paid 2,85 GBP for it, which I thought was quite expensive. Service very friendly.

I think we're spoilt to have such a friendly, unique, well-crafted coffee shop which not only takes coffee VERY seriously with different origins all lined up along the counter but has a breadth of fresh, healthy and amazing savoury and sweet food to choose from. Hopefully in time more and more will move away from the sterile chains and come to this atmospheric spot. I heard a lot of cappuccinos and lattes being ordered (Snore) but I would really recommend a cortado or a freshly brewed drip-style.

I usually visit the branch in the centre of Reading, but if you have to visit Halfords or the Wickes DIY store treat yourself to a proper coffee afterwards. Only a short (15 minute walk from there). Excellent coffee, staff and cake!

This is by far the best café in Reading west. First, it's an independent café. Second, they are very serious about their products, and the owner himself roasts the coffee they serve. Third, it's the only decent place on Oxford Road, where all the other food shops seem to serve fried chicken or kebabs. It is a bit small though. Recently they started closing at 2pm on weekdays, so you have to get up early if you want to enjoy a coffee here.

Seen the good reviews for this coffee house and decided to give it a go. Their coffee are really great. Strong and aromatic. The shop itself is small but cozy. A good place to enjoy a cup of coffee. This is a hidden germ for Reading, especially the Oxford Road.

Although small (and I have been guilty of causing buggy congestion in there but they always fit us in) it's the best place for coffee and a snack anywhere in west Reading. Staff always smiling. Nice to support an independent that is passionate about what they do (talk to the owner or staff about the different coffees they sell to take away). My only request would be for them to sell some vegetarian sandwiches or other savouries, meat eaters well catered for. The cakes are top. Right by Reading West train station for take aways.

West Reading is not somewhere I would automatically associate with fine coffee, but I've learnt that the more you look for great coffee, the more you find it. Workhouse Coffee is a delightful little coffee shop, perched on a corner at the end of a row of shops. Inside it is all wood and white paint, which, coupled with the large windows on two of the four walls, give it an amazing sense of space.

I visited on my own, for a break from work, on a Tuesday afternoon in early September. I walked past by chance and loved the look of the window and the board with the invitation to join for tea and flowers that was placed outside. Being able to sit and enjoy a nice drink and enjoy the flowers even though I wasn’t buying any on that occasion was really a lovely, calm experience. And wow, they had some of the most beautiful roses I’ve ever seen. There were a couple of groups of friends in who were enjoying their conversations, myself and another person were either working or just enjoying the downtime, and everyone respected everyone else’s right to enjoy the space and experience in their own way, be it together or solo. The menu is on the wall next to the fridge, as you come in.

The place is quite rundown. We asked for dumplings which they didn't have so we ordered something different. The portions were small and quite expensive.

Gracias. Rob, lectura.
