We live locally and visit regularly with our grandchildren who always enjoy the displays. You really need the weather to stroll the gardens

We had a bit f spare time after a boat ride on Windermere, so decided to visit here as we were staying in Cockermouth. Not sure we would make it in time as we got held up, but arrived with 45 minutes to spare. The gentleman on reception was lovely, very welcoming, and mot obliging when i told him grandad was trying to park and would be along later, and that I had his card. The house is not huge, but is very interesting, and our grandson was given a quiz to do. The garden is beautiful. Top marks all round

Like many authors' houses this has a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. There is a pleasant garden that would have been very large for the period. You can get a feel for the environment that helped foster Wordsworth, albeit a very privileged one.

Gracias National Trust.

This is a very nice Georgian house and worth a visit if you’re nearby. We hired the audio tour for £1.50 and felt it was worth it. The National Trust provide you with a free coffee and scone at the end too. Great friendly service from all staff.

As others have said there isn't a lot to see but we still spent 90 minutes there. The story is imaginatively played out on projectors & screens. Each room has its own booklet explaining what happens in them & helpers are there to assist with any questions. Plenty of things for kids to do in the form of dressing up, old games / toys that you can touch. The garden at the back is small but perfectly formed and overlooks the river. Parking isn't that obvious as it doesn't have its own so you have to use the short stay off the main street or the long stay one across the river from main street. When done you can venture into Cockermouth for food, drinks & shopping.

We visited this historical property run by the National Trust one afternoon in early April. We declined the use of the headsets, which would probably have given us detailed information about this property occupied rent free by William Wordsworth's father and mother. No doubt it was a happy family home before the death of their mother. In my view the house is not very elegant or attractive but it was worthwhile to see where Wordsworth was born.

Was an interesting house to look round with a small garden compared to a lot of NT properties. Loved the realistic displays in the dining room and kitchens and also had free tastings. If you’re in the area definite worth a visit. Small cosy cafe with friendly staff

Warm welcome in the ticket office where we opted for the audio tourm Easy to follow instructions and the device worked well with my hearing aid with a good interesting narrative designed around each of the rooms you entered. About 13 in all including the cellar! The garden is also lovely and great to see the number of bees attracted to the flowers they have planted. We would have liked more info on the plantings but nobody was around to ask sadly. We visited the cafe for scones and tea which were nice and reasonably priced. It is quite a small room with only about 6 tables and was very warm. It can be reached via a lift. All in all a good afternoon visit.

We’ve been here 3 times and have felt the house to be basic and unappealing! The guide though was lovely Viv Hastewell ...I think ..and he made our visit as best as possible. It seemed a cold and draughty home but enjoyed seeing the exhibits of Wordsworth Furniture. We didn’t visit the tea room but seems to have very good reviews.

If you're a Culture Vulture or a History Investigator - this is the place for you. Over many years William Wordsworth's birthplace/home has been developed and added to making a very informative, interactive 'museum' and garden - with unusual plants. William Wordsworth had an Uncle who lived at Woodhouse in Whitehaven, who he regularly visited, so we were well informed as school children of his significance to our culture and history; living in the town. Excellent venue for anyone interested in Cumberland's history.

This café is situated within the National Trusts Wordsworth House in the elegant town of Cockermouth. The room was small and table space was limited. We had coffee and cakes, which were fine but overpriced.

We visited the Wordsworth House & Garden on a cold sometimes rainy fall day and the little restaurant/cafe was a welcome respite after our touring around. Delicious Cream Tea and Scones!

The day we visited two coaches had arrived so was very busy and unfortunately there was only room for two on the guided tour but to compensate we were given free audio tapes and booklet so we're able to wonder the house and gardens at our own pace. Quite a few volunteers working in garden due to the bad weather but didn't mind stopping and answering questions. A very interesting house and we loved the ghosts in the cellar telling you their stories, the garden was wonderful and an added bonus was the wheel barrow of windfall apples which we could help our self, even on a busy rainy day the staff were friendly and helpful they really showed their love for the house and gardens. Highly recommend a visit (also pop to the loos for a surprise!)

It is showing how the town of Cockermouth was in Wordsworth day and how it is now. It is a nice garden to stroll around and is quiet even though it is in the town.

Visited here on a glorious sunny day. The house and gardens were wonderful. This is really a town house so don't expect a stately pile and rolling grounds. Front of house is do not touch but back is fun and hands on. There is a lot of Beatrice Potter information as well plus some wonderful original paintings. Oh, as well as a lovely old harpsichord being played very well. The garden was well laid out. It was surprising to see the height that the recent flood waters had reached. Cafe and shop were usual National Trust but the scones were home made. Well done everybody. ..

As we are NT members we thought we would visit here when we had a couple of hours spare. Our initial encounter with a member of staff was when we were the told we would have to leave our changing bag behind. The manner in which this was said was quite brusque and not friendly at all. I thought no if everyone is greeted in this way it would put a lot of people off.Anyway, the house had some interesting activities and a working kitchen which was a nice touch. The staff redeemed themselves at the end as they were much more friendly.Definitely worth a visit if you're a member of the NT but quite pricey if not.

We did not view the house as our timing was wrong for the tour but did use the cafe/tearoom. Excessive prices is all I can say we checked our bill and saw another couple do the same.

Wordsworth is one of my favourite poets, and so this opportunity was absolutely phenomenal. I would seriously recommend everyone at the Lake District to visit Wordsworth's childhood house. Do not fear if you are easily dulled by museums, galleries, and historical areas/houses; I guarantee you will not lose interest once you enter his house. There are many interactive activities, and very interesting talks given. I especially enjoyed using the feather and ink to write (harder than it seems, but it felt like we were transported to a Harry Potter set!). You get to tour the full house and then read some of his poetry for as long as you wish. You will easily see how the landscapes surrounding the house influenced his work. I wish we could've stayed longer, but unfortunately, we had to leave. The garden was so beautiful, and you could even taste one of the home-grown apples. At the end of the tour there is a poets' tree where anyone can hang their own poetry. Lovely day spent there. Loved every minute of it.

Visited today. 2 pieces of Cake and tea for 2 £10.20 and the milk and tea had to be changed as the milk was off. Prior to this small portion of soup for one person, 2 had Morecambe Bay Potted Shrimps, no garnish and they were served cold. We will not patronize again.

We stayed here for 2 nights and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The rooms are large, bright with some spectacular views and those special touches such as little toiletries for your use. The bath in our room was so opulent I could have stayed in there all evening. The dining area is quite niche you can have quiet discreet corners for a romantic evening or more open. The food is excellent- if I had 1 thing to say that was negative, it would be that I wouldn’t have a starter so I could have a dessert, I found each time I did I just didn’t have room to have one! The main thing for me was the staff. The staff quite simply made it for me. NOTHING was too much trouble, they were friendly, welcoming and went above and beyond , yet at the same time let us be. If you want somewhere, where you can be comfortable, away from it all and have excellent accommodation and food this is the place.

Sad to say that our trip there was a a big disappointment when it come to the food. We all had beef, it was dry and chewy. When we talked to the waiter, we have been told that is the way the chef does it. It is a shame that they only sell well done cuts of meat...

My friend and I called in here whilst in Wigton and had a bacon buttie and a barista butties both of which were delicious and cooked perfectly. I had a latte which was lovely and my friendcsaid her cappuccino was one if the vest she'd had. The staff were so helpful and friendly and we will definitely return.

Since discovering this little gem we no longer visit the area without popping in. The chocolate twists are generously sized, nice and buttery, and the coffee is divine. The staff are more than happy to cater to all my awkward needs and questions with a smile - nothing is too much trouble!
